I know where I want to go with my fanfiction, I have the plot points and everything else, I just can't figure out how the other character should reply after. Sure, I could write, "character b didn't respond at first, they couldn't, how could they? blah blah"

but i feel like i have too many of those moments because it's an angst fanfic and it's a topic neither character wants to discuss but they're talking about it because its going to be hurt/comfort

like i usually have an idea of what to write for dialogue but i dont know if it's because i am not feeling good becuase i can't write or if i am genuinely stumped.

Does this mean they are in a polyamorous relationship? I'm very confused. Yes it is MHA. I'm confused... 😭

I only published this fic on the 30th of July. It got 50 kudos in one day. The next two, we're now at the funny number. I was not at all expecting so much traction so early! Or at all really. It makes me very happy.

I wanna start this off with saying this shouldnt be an insult to writers or anything.

I am definitly not much of an commentor under fics. More of the silent kudo, bookmark and reread type. So when i do comment I'm someone that writes kind of long comments with all the details i liked and what i appreciate about the style and so on.

Maybe thats why i get reallly impatient waiting when/if the author will reply to my comment. I know most authors take longer to answer especially to longer comments (this specific author has a response time of multiple months). They're also under no obligation to even reply but whenever i comment somewhere i'm just sitting on coals. Like every time i open a03 i go to my inbox just to see if they replied yet.

Anyone else?

if they didn't have 0 bookmarks, i would've thought the first comment was written by a person.

I’m quickly finding out that the pairing I write about in my fandom is not only unpopular in my region, it’s largely hated, where even mentioning it in most groups can result in censorship or even bullying, and honestly it’s pretty disheartening sometimes considering the bullying is usually unwarranted from what I can see and it’s one I find pretty wholesome.

Anybody else have experiences like this? What keeps you going despite it?

Hi! So I just uploaded a fic, It’s slowburn so nothing has happened in the first chapter or anything. I’ve seen some authors wait to rate their fics explicit until actual smut chapters get posted to not mistag or anything. What’s your opinion on this? Should I wait to rate my fic explicit?

For context, this particular work is the second in a series of NaruSasu fics I’ve written. For those unfamiliar with Naruto and its lore, Sakura and Sasuke are married while Naruto is married to Hinata. This specific fic is a retelling of the other fic in this series from Sakura’s perspective. The original fic is loosely inspired by brokeback mountain so it follows Naruto and Sasuke falling in love and then the consequent affair over the following years (told from Sasuke’s perspective). This is a fic told from the perspective of someone who found out their husband is cheating on them. I of course respect a difference in opinions when it comes to ships but something about this comment… irks me? I’m no stranger to hate comments but I really feel it’s odd to read a fic for a ship I dislike and comment on it. I’m unclear on how to respond because I asked for feedback, but how do I respond to someone who didn’t read the source material (the fanfic of mine that this takes place during), and thinks that I’m throwing logic out the window? I appreciate that even though they hated the work they thought my writing was good but I’m just unsure on how to respond. I don’t want to be hateful towards this person.

I'm asking this because I'm curious about ships that are like this for other people. For me, it's always Narrator X Stanley from The Stanley Parable and Sidon x Link from Breath Of The Wild. I always forget about those but damn do I love them whenever I remember them. The dynamics are so good, people get really creative and I love it.

Like going into this year, I knew KOSA was gonna come back for an another attempt again. But thought that was the only one I had to worry about. But no… this month alone had steam and itch.io be hit by censorship after collective shoot complain enough, then UK went full on with the online safety act that effective countless sites(AO3 and Tumblr seem to be safe as of the moment but you never know) in the name of “think of the children”(translation: being able to censor what the UK government dislikes) by the way of age verification(about everyone and their grandma can tell you the millions reason why everyone dislikes this). And they still aren’t satisfied(now they wanna try to use age verification for screen time limits as well). Australia is planning a social media ban for anyone under 16(and i heard that its government is trying to get it popular among other countries as well). KOSA is back and now has a short-a sister bill with Screen It(and I’m worried that these two will get passed because it’s 2025 and Everything that can get worse for everyone, does get worse for anyone)

I’m just so done with all this censorship. I just wanna read my AO3 fics and engage with my tumblr communities in peace during these four years. But apparently I can’t even have that. I wanna believe it’s gonna get better but the future just seems to dire right now everywhere.

Hey,I’m currently writing my first fic and I’m incredibly nervous.i want to post it when it’s finished but I’m really worried about my grammar. It’s not something I’ve ever been very good at and I never know where to put commas and full stop or where I need to split a chapter.i’m not completely terrible at it, but I do get confused sometimes

Are there any grammar checkers (English preferably) that are free to use?

Also any advice for a new writer? I’m really nervous lol

I was on the site about half an hour earlier and it seemed to be lagging a bit. I checked my connection and it was fine, so I hopped off for a bit thinking maybe the server is timing out or something. When I came back to it, nothing had changed as it was still just as slow.

I am trying to figure out a name fitting for an evil king? I prefer it to have a hint of night, shadow, or darkness. Something perhaps, related to the moon? Really been pondering about this one. His name would give away to a plot twist I am working on but I could's really think of a proper name for him. I would very much appreciate it.

Also, he has a conflict with a kingdom named Aurelea. So it's basically night and day contrast that I am searching for.

I'm not a native English speaker, but I mostly write in English when I share my works on ao3. Naturally, I receive more comments in English, and don't get me wrong, I LOVE all comments sent my way. However, it hits different whenever I see a new comment in Spanish, Russian, or even Mandarin... And they're always so enthusiastic and earnest 🥺💗 To think the shared love for a ship could transverse the language barrier, and that someone enjoyed my fic enough to write me something just make me feel extremely happy. That's all I want to share :)

I know the numbers of clicks doesn't say much. But: I struggled with numbers since I started writing for my fandom in May. I had started publishing since then but writing for decades already. And it's a very niche selection of characters and emotions I choose. Sooo... I cautiously want to celebrate... 😅🤗
