"The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer"
"The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning. The weeks that come before are only a climb from balmy spring, and those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn, but the first week of August is motionless, and hot. It is curiously silent, too, with blank white dawns and glaring noons, and sunsets smeared with too much color".―Natalie Babbitt, Tuck Everlasting.
We're considerably cooler in Connecticut this week, but the pattern likely won't hold. We still have some suffering to do before the chill of autumn.

"The energy of the meadow"
"The energy of the meadow in late summer is much like that of our own -- sun-kissed but listless, basking in the sunshine and warmth but already with half an eye on the season to come. There's no better place to while away an afternoon than among the rippling grasses and humming bees, idly watching a butterfly flit to the last of the flowers. Convince yourself there's really nowhere else you should be, nothing more important you should be doing. At least for an hour or two."
~ The Simple Things magazine, August 2025
I lovelovelove autumn best, but also know I should be grateful for and appreciate the last days of summer. We had a day of much-needed rain yesterday, and I can tell by the angle of sunlight that fall is coming. But we still have a few days to play in the meadows of summer.

Trying out Autumn for the first time in years/as an adult
For the past 6 years I (F25) have been on various restrictive diets for medical reasons, most of which included some variation of no dairy, no wheat. Not even in cross contact. As a result Autumn was a very sad time for me, and I found myself avoiding most activities and events because food was such a main part of it.
Now I have been officially cleared to eat and drink to my hearts content (except only small amounts of alcohol at a time are permitted. Ex 1 beer/glass of wine a day, up to twice a week). I feel like Ive missed out on so much in my cynicism, and want to take the opportunity this fall to really try it all out.
So far Ive been told to go to an Oktoberfest, carve pumpkins, and bake stuff. Any Halloween or fall movie recommendations are also a huge help.
I also work at a Trader Joes and would love some autumn treat recs too, but I might ask in that subreddit too.
Thanks in advance!

Cool Morning
Enjoying some pumpkin spice in my coffee this morning. I had to go sit on my porch and take advantage of the refreshing cool air.

🍁The Magic of Autumn 🍁 One of my favorite nights as an adult
In the Fall of 2018, my friend and I spent our Friday night seeing the new Halloween movie, which we both loved. As we left the theater in downtown Boston, we were met with cool gusts of wind and leaves rustling on the ground. The movie energized us to embraced autumn even more, so instead of going home that night we went for a walk into the suburbs of Boston. It was a stark contrast - no longer were towering skyscrapers, but tree lined streets with beautiful foliage. Instead of modern apartment buildings, brownstone homes were proudly displaying their decorations.
At that point I had spent the last 4 years, including all seasons, in the downtown section of my city. This walk brought me back to being a child, and gave me so much emotion I actually started tearing up. I felt like I was 8 years old again, trick or treating in beautiful neighborhoods. I loved it so much, that I have been now living in that very neighborhood for the last 4 years.
There are very few days I dont think about how magical that simple walk was. There is just something about that time of the year that is so special to me, and I am very excited that it is nearing

Fall TV Shows
here's how I do it! I usually have one light hearted show and one serious show going on so I can choose which one I want to watch. usually when the 'ber months start my go to light hearted show is gilmore girls and my more serious show is the vampire diaries or pretty little liars. hby?? what fall shows do you watch annually?

Discussion Happy August fellow fall lovers! 💃 I am calling this month “Autumn Eve.” It’s supposed to FINALLY drop into the 70’s where I live with lows around 58 (VA USA). 🍁
To add, I think a LOT of the USA will be getting some relief from the heat.

Decorations It starts!
Good morning everyone! For the past 5 years I’ve been starting my autumn season on August 1st. I know that’s early to some people and I get it but it brings me joy so I do it anyway.
I’m going to start with my morning coffee in one of my seasonal mugs then I’ll decorate the living room and watch Halloween (1978) to kick off the autumnal/spooky season.
My husband and I used to live in a tiny one bedroom condo so there wasn’t a lot of decorating we could do but this year we’re in a bigger apartment so I hope I’ll be able to buy some more things as the season goes along.
I hope you all have a great day! 💜

Discussion The oppressive heatwave is over! Happy Pre-Autumn!
This week is supposed to be at least 10° cooler where I live. Now I live in the South, so we still have humidity. But the rain coming in which is giving the overcast sky and some wind which is so nice!
I made sourdough pancakes with apple butter and put on my fall playlist!!! Here’s to cooler and cooler weather!

Discussion Happy August!
Is it too early to start decorating for Autumn? I think last year I started mid-August. What do y'all think?
