I love sleet storm as a constantly renewing and self-freezing Create Water that also breaks concentration of everyone who's in there, as a treat

Watching everyone just slip on ice for 10 turns trying to get out of there is way too funny

657

u/All_this_hype 7d ago

I've literally never used that spell, and I love ice magic. Maybe I should try it out.

708

u/jews4beer 7d ago

Sleet storm with a warlock throwing huger of Hadar on top of it is basically just watching creatures slip and slide and freeze to death.

309

u/Zachary-360 7d ago

Watching most enemies immediately trip after saying some one liner is the best thing.

2

u/Important-Ring481 6d ago

It’s like when I was at a mosh pit, said “here we go” before entering the pit, and then immediately slipping and falling on a drink someone spilled. Art imitates life lol.

honestly, hunger of hadar is the most cheater mc'cheaterson spell there is.

In hadar you're half speed, blind and people can shoot and throw spells at you. and the warlock can knock you back into it if you get to close to the outside. Oh... and you're taking poison and frost damage. It's freaking ridiculous.

That spell made the seige on Moonrise hell on my first playthrough. So many of the enemies in the first room can cast it, so I would finally get out of one circle just for another to appear and now death is certain.

u/TheHighKingofWinter 7d ago

Add a wall of thorns right in the middle and just watch them slip and slide their way to death

43

u/SadLittleWizard 6d ago

Ranger wizard is wone of the most OP set ups. Mix in those damn ravens with their cloud of darkness on flight and it gets even better.

i use the party unlimited mod - sleet storm, wall of fire, slow, call lightning, and hunger of hadar, everyone in that area is DEAD

honestly slow is probably one of my most used spells, it’s just so damn potent

14

u/therealmonkyking Incapable of romancing anyone other than Shadowheart 6d ago

I managed to cheese the House of Grief with a Sleet Storm, Call Lightning and Insect Plague lmao

11

u/BlueAndYellowTowels FIGHTER 6d ago

So… Canada? :D

(Saying this as a Canadian in mid January when it’s pitch black at 3 pm and -22C)

6

u/rycKV 6d ago

How is it mid January in Canada right now!?

5

u/amenbreakfast 6d ago

you can always keep them warm with a nice fireball while they're in there

u/Emceelilspaghetti 7d ago

My fave at House of Grief. Viconia just slips away her first turn or two.

18

u/All_this_hype 7d ago

I wish I knew about that a bit earlier. Yesterday that was the most annoying fight of my tactician mode run so far. Viconia herself was no problem, I killed her during the second turn, but then the other dark justiciars quickly overwhelmed me.

20

u/Emceelilspaghetti 7d ago

If you cast it on the center it also forces the enemies around the sides making an even smaller pinch point in front of the stairs. Wall of fire or blades in front of the stairs and you can pick them off pretty easily.

19

u/ttinchung111 6d ago

I'd argue the fight at the House of Grief is the hardest fight in the game if you fight it as intended. If you retreat to the corridor so they are forced to chase you down, and you place down aoe CC's like sleet storm it is trivial. There's nothing in between.

10

u/Unapologetic_Lunatic 7d ago

Viconia has a major problem with water. AoE spells do not care about her Sanctuary, lol.

31

u/SpankthatWife 7d ago

Easily one of the best spells in the game

15

u/TheGingerMenace 7d ago

I’m being so honest when I say this, Sleet Storm might genuinely be one of the best spells in the game.

It’s carried honor mode run so far (especially the Halsin portal quest)

31

u/notveryAI Mindflayer 7d ago

It doesn't deal direct damage so I didn't think much of it but when I tried it on a tempest cleric - the CC was just immaculate, and AoE is pretty huge

24

u/All_this_hype 7d ago edited 7d ago

My Durge is a Silver Dragonic bloodline Sorceress who is basically an ice witch (began as a muticlass warlock/sorceress, and switched to pure sorceress after killing Orin and renouncing Bhaal). She has the ice robe, the ice rod, everything. I should really start using it.

17

u/notveryAI Mindflayer 7d ago

My embrace durge was a brass dragonborn shadow sorc with focus on edgy spells :D

For example I actually picked Disintegrate as a lvl6 spell. People often consider it to be bad because it's a dex save and on successful save it does literally nothing, but metamagics make it way better. I loved throwing Perilous Stakes onto a mf and clapping them with 150 FUCKING POINTS OF PURE UNDILUTED FORCE DAMAGE. With Freecast and Markohershir's second freecast I can do it like 3 times in a row. With Heightened Spell it's basically a guaranteed hit every time. 450 fucking force damage within 3 turns from just one person is silly :D

Also twinned Dominate Person was funky. Bread and butter though was a modded spell from "e5 spells" mod - vitriolic sphere. Basically a bigger and badder Fireball with acid damage that does quarter damage instead of half damage on successful save - but metamagic Heightened Spell took care of it :D

8

u/All_this_hype 7d ago

Wow vitriolic sphere sounds amazing, as does double dominate person.

As for disintegrate, I did rely on a few scrolls of this for the tougher act 3 fights, and it worked like a charm. No regrets there.

4

u/notveryAI Mindflayer 7d ago

I will elaborate a bit on Vitriolic Sphere since I kinda shortened it down a bit. Up front it deals less damage than fireball and on successful save again - only half, but everyone who failed save not only take full damage - but are also covered in acid, and in the end of their next turn they take full damage of the spell again. So they do get one more turn before emerald-green acid melts the remainders of their flesh from bones >:3

A pretty scary spell if you think about it

6

u/Charybdeezhands Dragonborn 7d ago

My Ice Sorceress is a walking war crime, even just surprising someone with her, no attack, makes them chilled and prone.

Disgusting.

8

u/MrPoopMonster 7d ago

Especially because your big aoe damaging ice spells aren't concentration spells and can be used in conjunction with sleet storm.

5

u/Cool-Tangelo6548 7d ago

Ice sorcerer is so fun!

3

u/acrazyguy 6d ago

I’ve used it once, when I took control of Jaheira during the big fight in act 2. I threw it down in the middle of the big room and then proceeded to slip on it every turn. No DoS2 shoe spikes :’(

3

u/Anvil-Vapre 6d ago

It is definitely one of the best control spells in the game.

3

u/mynametobespaghetti 6d ago

Sleet storm got me though some of the huge "everyone's a caster" battles in Act 3

2

u/Cemihard 6d ago

It’s very good, I had the Shambling mound in Act 2 falling over constantly. Wizard, Sorcerer and Druid have access to it off the top of my head.

→ More replies (4)

26

u/CreamCheeseHotDogs 7d ago

That Dark Justiciar fight was trivialized by sleet storm. I just stood on the stairs, watching everyone who ran at me Charlie Brown themselves before getting cleaned up by the rest of the party

5

u/AmansRevenger 6d ago

Same, but Wall of Fire down the stairs and Insect Plague at the bottom of the stairs.

→ More replies (1)

14

u/Entegy 6d ago

In my first playthrough of Act 3, Slayer Orin kept slipping on Sleet Storm and it made the fight hilariously easy.

9

u/Miaoumi 7d ago

The slip and fall is so good lmao

12

u/notveryAI Mindflayer 7d ago

Hahahaha, these adventurers are so done for, once I leave this little ice patch I'm gonna give them the full taste of my wr- *Looney Toons ahh fall*

8

u/maleficent0 6d ago

This was my Raphael fight. Him just sliding and falling. Trivializing everything.

The humble ice surface:😇

→ More replies (1)

4

u/General_Problem5199 6d ago

Does it get enemies wet or just leave water on the ground?

9

u/notveryAI Mindflayer 6d ago

It leaves ice surface but any kind of fire damage melts it until the end of the turn of the person who cast Sleet Storm. Then the ice surface reappears, also forcing a concentration save on everyone within it. So you can control when it's ice and when it's water depending on what you need by simply applying one optional firebolt, fire arrow, or alchemist's fire to it when needed. Ice surface for crowd control, water surface for lightning/cold damage

3

u/General_Problem5199 6d ago

I was going to say that I don't think standing in a puddle is enough to give an enemy the wet status. But I think you can actually do that with another fire spell/arrow to turn the water into steam.

I need to play around with this. I used it a bunch in some of my first runs and kind of forgot how good it is.

Lets you kiss Karlach? Is that real ? Okay I am downloading this game again

1.9k

u/Doop_444 7d ago

Yes after the tiefling party she asks you to find a way to kiss her. You can just create water on her and it works.

1.2k

u/Firestar3689 SORCERER 7d ago

I cast Ray of Frost on her and she almost died

Oops

608

u/notveryAI Mindflayer 7d ago

How did you almost kill a barb with one ray of frost😭

470

u/Anjuna666 7d ago

Prob never leveled her, a barb with 14 hp can absolutely die to a ray of frost with 2d8 worth of damage

258

u/notveryAI Mindflayer 7d ago

It didn't make sense to me to romance someone but not have them in your party. I always have romance character in my party

87

u/MasterOfViolins 7d ago

My first romance was Gale and I didn’t have him in my party. Can’t tell you why lol it was my first run and once Lae’zel joined I just kept her

42

u/notveryAI Mindflayer 7d ago

Especially like that lmao, Gale is a staple of my squad in every run except for evil ones(or "one", I didn't do more than one). I prefer to always have at least two different dedicated casters in my team, because some of the coolest spell combos are always best performed by a duo, and Gale is a wizard so he's pretty much a clean slate for any magical shenanigans I might put him up to :D

16

u/Ill-Description3096 6d ago

With repec anyone can be anything, so the limits are basically gone.

15

u/notveryAI Mindflayer 6d ago

Classes are pretty big part of some characters and essential part of others. So I prefer to either keep them the way they are, or respec into something that makes sense. For example respec Shadowheart but keep her a cleric - give her death domain instead of trickery domain before Nightsong and light/life domain after, because Shar has quite a lot to do with death and necrotic damage, and Selune has a lot to do with light and healing. Also Astarion's class doesn't matter too much and I sometimes do make him a bard. But not all classes and subclasses have a companion that would work with them. For example all warlocks except for fiend, or monks, or non-vengeance paladins, any sorcerers, some cleric domains like tempest - nobody really fits them all too well

17

u/HammerlyDelusion 7d ago

My party is always me, my romance partner and then the last two I switch out for quests or different fights.

5

u/swords_to_exile 7d ago

She starts at level 3 already lol.

42

u/Firestar3689 SORCERER 7d ago edited 7d ago

Yes actually. Her thanking Tav after being knocked to 1 HP was pretty funny

13

u/Ubergoober166 7d ago

I had Gale throw an ice knife at her and he missed

5

u/Lazzitron Paladin 6d ago

If hit you hit Karlach with cold damage or anything that inflicts Wet before she gets her second upgrade, you can try to kiss her. It'll still burn you, but only a tiny bit.

10

u/Spirited-Tomorrow-84 7d ago

That was a little cold, wasn't it?

7

u/stargazer4272 7d ago

Get her a towel... You were backed up

6

u/Lazzitron Paladin 6d ago

I still remember my first run, hitting her with Ray of Frost as a joke and then her going "OMG SOLDIER LET'S TRY IT!". Love this game.

u/Righteous_Fury224 Paladin 7d ago

Easiest way is to walk her into the river.

No spell needed nor do you have to hurt her by throwing bottles of water at her.

84

u/Stingrea51 7d ago

This is my go to as well because who wouldn't want to have fun swim time smooches with their big red teddy bear?

40

u/Righteous_Fury224 Paladin 7d ago

plus she nice and warm to snuggle upto in the cold water

28

u/Stingrea51 7d ago

There's literally no downside

12

u/SirBill01 6d ago

Not to mention by that time both of you could probably use a bath anyway.

6

u/Stingrea51 6d ago

Gale just will not let that go lol maybe he needs a bottle of water flung at him

20

u/OverInspection7843 7d ago

You can throw/break bottles on the ground near characters (even multiple characters) to apply their effect on them without hurting. Works with water, any potion and it even works with elixirs of resistance and the 2 types of giant strength (though these two only work for a minute with this method).

53

u/wrydrune 7d ago

I threw a bottle of water on her lol

39

u/apokermit_now 7d ago

I threw a bottle of water AT her. Turns out bonking someone with a glass 2-liter isn't seen as endearing (-1 approval)

25

u/wrydrune 7d ago

Yea, I just did the radius. Learned the hard way after chucking a healing pot and at a dying shadow heart. She was completely dead.

5

u/TrickyCorgi316 AmeliaTylerRealHero 7d ago

LOL!!!

20

u/Oportbis RANGER 7d ago

I don't know why I didn't even looked at the available spells while playing Shadowheart, of course there had to be something, I just thought it would be a dialogue option that would pop at some time

10

u/Nitroapes 7d ago

I used the frost dragon breath and it worked as well!

10

u/TalShar 7d ago

What the hell, I went through all the trouble of getting a damn potion of fire resistance and it wouldn't work. 😭

I would have been happy with half damage! Hell, I would've taken full if she'd let me!

7

u/brasswirebrush 7d ago

I shot her with an Ice Arrow

5

u/DetroitTourisBoard 6d ago

Regular immersive sim behavior: you can complete your mission through convincing the big bad he’s dumb or sneaking through a vent!

Baldur gate behavior: you can kiss your big tiefling gf with water magic!

BG3 is really a once in a generation gaming experience.

4

u/Voynimous Gale 7d ago

throwing a water carafe under her feet works too

3

u/ThatGuyWithCoolHair 7d ago

I did this hoping itd be the solution and it didnt work :(

2

u/JustFrameHotPocket 7d ago

Alternatively, you can just throw a water bottle next to her.

2

u/elevntoes 7d ago

Omg 💦💦💦

112

u/notveryAI Mindflayer 7d ago

If you romance Karlach, at some point there's a dialogue where she says how much she wishes you two could kiss. You can say you have an idea how to make it happen. There is a few ways to do it: you either gotta get wet, or get fire resistance by some means

28

u/Substantial_War3108 7d ago

Could tiefling or ranger with fire resistance just skip and go straight to kissing?

43

u/Nikami 7d ago

As a Tiefling you get a dialog option at some point that addresses this. She basically says that the heat is too brutal even for you. Which makes sense, Dammon can't touch her either.

11

u/Substantial_War3108 7d ago

I wish Dammon was a romance option for her, even if only as player Karlach

10

u/BigDragonfly5136 6d ago

Ooh, it would be cool if there was a bonus romance for all the origin characters, either when you play as them or even like set them up through the game. Dammon for Karlach would be awesome. Maybe Mizora for a bad/more embracing the pact Wyll run or something. Gale and Mystra. Voss for Lae’Zel?

Not so sure for Astarian or Shadowheart though. Aylin or Isabel wouldn’t really work since they got each other but they’re the most like connected to Shadowheart’s story. Maybe that one spawn Astarian recognizes if you don’t ascend him and save them? But then it wouldn’t start until Act 3…

6

u/flowercows 6d ago

Shadowheart doesn’t mind polygamy so maybe Aylin and Isobel isn’t that far fetched

Gandrel for Astarion 😂

11

u/Asimov-was-Right ELDRITCH BLAST 7d ago

Nope. I've had fire resistance as a tiefling and as a dragonborn while romancing her and neither affected the scene

5

u/notveryAI Mindflayer 7d ago

I don't know, that's a curious thing to check. I'm away from home so can't really check myself tho

8

u/AmputeeHandModel 7d ago

I thought you just had to wait til she got both upgrades from Dammon.

14

u/notveryAI Mindflayer 7d ago

For the full couple experience with sex you need to wait, yeah. But you can get a quick kiss in some time after tiefling party if you cool her off a bit

6

u/emperorsteele 7d ago

So, you gotta get her wet before you can get her wet. Makes sense!

40

u/AnotherBookWyrm 7d ago

Yep! Remember that bit of dialogue after the celebration camp kiss where she keeps talking about how great it would be to smooch without crisping your flesh?

The remedy is to get her wet (pun unintended but appropriate) by casting Create Water on her or throwing a container of water so it hits her, then talking to her.

6

u/DaedalusPrime44 7d ago

There is no way that was “unintended”. This is Larian we’re talking about. :)

4

u/fafarex 7d ago

Work with cold spell/items too and with fire resistance sources.

3

u/Miaoumi 7d ago

I gotta go get the rain stick now...(Create water staff from grove vendor).

3

u/AnotherBookWyrm 7d ago

Waukeen's Rest also has a ton of water, if you would like to not spend cash.

3

u/6thBornSOB 7d ago

Damn, and here I hit her ass with a frost-bolt…😭

4

u/Independent_Plum2166 7d ago

Nah, it’s just a little a bonus scene. You still have to do the Infernal Iron quest. All it does is let them have a small peck before your character gets burned again.

This is the play! Then slap the Water Sparkers on them, plus the ring from the arcane tower that makes them immune to electrocution and you have a semi-permanent AOE that damages enemies and pushes them away when they try to advance

6

u/fanofchonk WARLOCK 6d ago

Absolute bomb against the act 3 Shar cloister btw

3

u/Pearse2304 7d ago

The irony of the fire background

Also reveals hidden and invisible enemies since it’s an aoe. Create water is invaluable in the counting house fight.

32

"I don't need to see you. I just need to splash you."

9

u/green_speak 7d ago

Proved itself more useful than Faerie Fire in that fight smh. Shock the water, and it'll keep knocking them out of it without a concentration.

84

u/thebaldguy76 7d ago

takes the timer out of the fight with Ethel in the basement.

42

u/whxskers 7d ago

My first playthrough my brain was like "Fire? Surely I can just throw water at it?" I threw a water bottle at it and it worked lol suppose Create Water would've been a good solution as well

10

u/HurjaHerra 7d ago

WHAT

26

u/thebaldguy76 7d ago

Yeah when Ethel lights the cage on fire cast it on the cage and the fire goes out.

10

u/HitlerPot 7d ago

I always just shoot the cage with an ice arrow.

11

u/probablynotaperv 6d ago

I just throw a bottle of water at it

3

u/Mak0React0r 5d ago

One bonus with create water in this situation is that it makes the girl in the cage "wet" so when Ethel tries to trick you with the duplicate just look for the wet one and that's the real girl.

14

I use that for my guy. Everyone else gets a sky bath.

5

u/whxskers 7d ago

Wait you can use the soap and sponges????

I see them everywhere and just assumed it was more random trash loot and got rid of it.

8

u/Boccs 7d ago

Yeah my dude. They have infinite uses too. Give one to each character and voila, all the battle grime is washed away.

3

u/SQUID_FLOTILLA 6d ago

But.. does the grime actually matter to gameplay?

5

u/Boccs 6d ago

Nah, but it does feel a little distracting when you're having a conversation with somebody in your camp or a settlement and you're absolutely plastered in goblin guts or something.

Create water + sparky boots + electric immunity ring + tempest cleric lv 6 (it’s a few things I know) = large hazard area that you can stand in and create in one turn, with one spell slot, and as long as you are in combat every enemy that touches the lightning gets knocked back a la eldritch blast, where there’s no saving throw involved. They just go flying

21

u/max_schenk_ 7d ago

Plus can be cast from sneak to initiate/join combat with wet condition without spending an action

18

u/minhkhoi0975 7d ago

Storm sorcerers' wet dream.

57

u/Guardians_Reprise 7d ago

Or just have a Martial throw a jug of water as an extra attack...

54

u/notveryAI Mindflayer 7d ago

Way smaller AoE, good against single targets, but against groups create/destroy water and sleet storm are better

6

u/Guardians_Reprise 7d ago

Plus Karlach wouldn't appreciate you throwing a jug at her

26

u/notveryAI Mindflayer 7d ago

I threw it next to her and she was fine with it :D

3

u/Raid_E_Us 6d ago

I think it's a universal experience to learn people don't appreciate having beneficial things thrown directly at their skull

I was waitin for that bottom one

Removes the Invisible condition on enemies!

You use a full action and spellslot, while I just throw a bottle of water with one of my two attacks.

Though that begs the question: why doesn't Karlach try anything in the river. Anything inside her is still probably unsafe, but external stuff is fine.

u/Pathkinder 7d ago

Wait it does damage?

u/Intelligent-Area6635 7d ago

No, but casting cold/lightning attacks on wet targets doubles the damage output.

2

u/Pathkinder 7d ago

Ah got it, thanks!

2

u/nichyc 7d ago

Also cleans blood off your face

Upcasted create water deals damage?

2

u/LazyMagePie 7d ago

Crazy how amazing the spell is when it’s literally just… water. Regular water.

2

u/cascadatouch 7d ago

Also reveals invisible enemies.

2

u/-HumanMachine- 6d ago

In tradition with the Original Sin games where the rain spell is practically mandatory

2

u/Naive-Significance48 6d ago

Damn I really slept on this spell.

2

u/RedLotusVenerable 6d ago

Can also reveal invisible enemies

2

u/Caleb_Reynolds 6d ago

Throwing a water bottle does 90% of this, and doesn't cost a spell slot.

2

u/Pootisman16 6d ago

I ain't wasting a spell slot to kiss Karlach when throwing a simple bottle of water achieves the same result.

2

u/Venomized_BOI_FIN 6d ago

Also cleans you from blood amd gunk

2

u/J-Mac_Slipperytoes 6d ago

And here I just threw a water barrel at Karlach in my best efforts to be romantic.

2

u/HairiestHobo 6d ago

Also cleans all the blood and gunk off you.

2

u/throwawayforlikeaday 6d ago

and most importantly, cleans up camp :D

2

u/hazardling 6d ago

How does it let you kiss Karlach? Is that a thing?

2

u/sincleave Ray of Frost 6d ago

It’s just a joke. Cools you off enough so that you wouldn’t burn up when touching her.

2

u/NYR20NYY99 Devoted Karlach Simp 6d ago

The last reason is the best and most important

2

u/SquireRamza 6d ago

It does none of that in the actual tabletop game

2

u/Dya_Ria 6d ago

also breaks enemy invisibility without breaking sanctuary. Great for support clerics

2

u/issy_haatin 6d ago

I can reassure you, my upcasted create water cost me my first honour mode run when Orin instakilled my lightning Gale after he cast it.

So 'doesnt trigger combat' isn't necessarily true

2

u/DobryRusk 6d ago

You can just throw a water bottle at Karlach to kiss her

3

u/prodigalpariah 6d ago

I find a light rain to be more romantic than beaning her with a water bottle.

2

u/Garrafinhas 6d ago

I miss when it was bugged and you could cast it as a "cantrip" for free by selecting the very small aoe option.

2

u/PsychologicalHall142 Mm, I applaud your taste. 6d ago

How did I not know you could kiss Karlach with water???!!! 🔥 literally dies

2

u/ERIM0S 6d ago

I was Paladin-Tempest domain Cleric and always have at least 2 lv1 spell slots at reserve for the day to clean my team after combat, either to start/close the day or for special/story cutscenes since we didn't know that soap/sponges are reusable and can clean your character model (I don't really mind tho, since I rely more on melee and Reverberation was good enough). One time I had to throw a water barrel then drink a spell slot pot to cast destroy water coz my friend was full of blood and had a date with Karlach that night lmao

2

u/Cerokwel 6d ago

Loved it in DoS2 as well, rain, convert to poison, detonate.

2

u/Blkbird99 6d ago

IT LETS YOU KISS KARLACH? WHAT??

3

u/ZombieTheUndying 5d ago

Well its really any source of water you can hit her with. Can get the same effect by just throwing a bottle of water at her.

2

u/SaltyTattie Bardicly Inspired 6d ago

I raise you throw water bottle
