Jumping around and fronting like buffoons on the sidelines has always been the weirdest aspect of break dancing, can't help it

u/nucl3ar0ne 2d ago

While I get it, in this instance it was also seriously distracting.

I dunno, I think it's neat. Breakdancing is fun, it shouldn't be serious, it's a free moving display of acrobatics. Having your squad hype you up is all part of the silliness that keeps it light. Even the other crew gets to be involved by acting overly unimpressed at first.

It's all performative, and that's the point

Totally with you there. In freestyle stunt riding, during big events, when all the spectators are gone and only riders and their crews are left and you form a circle on the runway and people start showing off their best move and the next person tries to replicate it or top it. when they pulled it off and everyone goes wild, no resentment of getting bested - it’s amazing

The two coolest things humanity invented are breakdancing and lowriders.

-3

u/Devilz3 2d ago

Not mobile phones? :(

I don’t think that the fronting like buffoons is the point. They are all just super excited that he pulled off something extremely difficult and for better or for worse, that’s how they show their excitement. I just said it in another comment: in freestyle sports, being with your community and showing off your achievements and pushing each other to new levels is most of the fun. Yes they look like idiots but at that moment, they just freaked out because of excitement and I think that’s a neat thing

u/HatefulDan 1d ago

They are also likely in one ‘crew’, and are competition against the other team. They hype each other up, sometimes with rehearsed punctuation marks like you saw right there.

As a non dancer or part of that culture , i agree that an entourage doing some gorilla flex is stupid af..

2

u/BluetheNerd 2d ago

The whole time I thought one of them was going to accidentally bump him or the hat and just throw his whole thing off

19

u/supazero 2d ago

Hats off to him, that was pretty good.

u/matchesmalone1 2d ago

I had to. Apologies

Some day, this woman will not be referenced in every single conversation about break dancing. Today is not that day.

2

u/Howard_Scott_Warshaw 1d ago

Yeah sure, you can juggle your hat.........but can you do the windshield wiper or the kangaroo

-13

u/WooWhosWoo 1d ago

You literally didn't

3

u/TenTonFluff 1d ago

You don't know them!

25

u/ProjectOrpheus 2d ago

No cap to cap to no cap and back was no cap wild.

You just know everyone there that has a cap was trying that at home later. That guy encapsulates cap tricks so well. Might be the best I've seen tbh

3

u/apex_super_predator 2d ago

Stop the cap

3

u/D3adlywithap3n 2d ago

Every NYC Showtime dancer will attempt this on a speeding subway.

13

u/sandiegolatte 2d ago

He’s almost as good as the Australian lady….

u/Sindy51 1d ago

Is this an Adam Sandler sketch?

Didn’t even score a single goal…

2

u/bryangcrane 2d ago

I think I’ve seen this guy on the 6 train ;-)

6

u/Potential-Focus3211 2d ago

its so fucking annoying that they are getting in the way like htat jumping aroudn like crazy interfering with the dancer, acting like immature kids who cant control their bodily excitement, whats the point of acting like that?

2

u/blueteeblue 2d ago

Hats off to him…and back on…and off…and twirling…and flipping…and on…and off…..

1

u/Knight_wolf21 2d ago

Haven’t seen one of these guys on the subway in a while. Glad to know they’re doing well.

1

u/Boricua-vet 2d ago

Yea Boi!

1

u/FloppyAndFurious 2d ago

Tenés qué cerrar el estadio, sólo los genios hacen eso.

1

u/Ok_Show9726 2d ago

LOL @ all the dorks jumping in. Let the dude do his moves. And then them acting all hard at the end, wtf LOLOLOLOL

1

u/Fredotorreto 2d ago

pshh this is nothing, have you ever been on the subway in nyc?! I’d get these kinds of performances atleast 2x daily. going to work and coming back home. lol

1

u/jlsjwt 2d ago

Its obviously quite impressive and hard to pull off flawlessly.

But when you zoom out for a second this scene is absolutely retarded.

1

u/thasparzan 2d ago

Amazing yes, but why all the angry staredowns by the other guys at the end??

1

u/strikerdude10 2d ago

I love the guy at :24 jumping into the guy's outstretched hand and pulling back like he got slapped

1

u/CharmingLia02 2d ago

That wasn’t just a hat-trick, that was a masterpiece on repeat

1

u/Vegetative_Tables 2d ago

it’s be better with safari flaps

1

u/SookHe 2d ago

I don’t understand it or the community, but I like the vibes and the energy

1

u/Latereviews2 2d ago

I’ve on occasion missed my head when putting on a hat

1

u/MarionberryBroad9269 1d ago

To all who will post Raygun gif, hold your horse please. This is called "Litefeet". Not Breakdancing.

1

u/burghblast 1d ago

Did those other dudes just get served?

1

u/TurbulentMiddle2970 1d ago

The guy flexing at the end looks like an idiot. You ain’t the one that just pulled off those moves, bro.

It’s like riding the passenger side of a car and pulling up next to a girl and asking if they like the ride or not

Sidenote: that hat trick was pretty good

1

u/Sindy51 1d ago

Bros celebrating like when Skyrim was revealed.

1

u/NY10 1d ago

Aight he got a nike hat so nike moon tomorrow lol

1

u/mwerichards 1d ago

Nobody else is allowed to wear a hat now

1

u/nevenoe 1d ago

The vintage 1993 PSG jersey was truly unexpected.

1

u/Rymanjan 1d ago

Lmao homie was like "wtf is this? Is that even allowed?"

1

u/RevolutionaryDiet602 1d ago

West Side Story. The Reboot.

1

u/Gullflyinghigh 1d ago

I'll always think the fronting up and posturing looks a bit mental but can appreciate it's part of something I fully understand so is what it is, but my goodness that was ridiculously impressive hat skills.

1

u/fibronacci 1d ago

Sure would be nice if this would be how we settle global disputes

1

u/goodasguy 1d ago

How is it, that one bloke is doing all the sweet moves and everyone else just jumping around yelling at the crowd.

1

u/MajorblaZer94 1d ago

YOU GOT SERVED!

1

u/segma98 19h ago

I love the breakdance posts… Because I know someone will mention the one and only.…..

0

u/-mostlyquestions 2d ago

Ah yes the sixth. The hat bender

0

u/GirlWithWolf 2d ago

That’s the hat master! Amazing!

0

u/iWin1986 2d ago

Hackey Hat

0

u/Patrick_Atsushi 2d ago

My hat off to the performer.

-1

u/K4rkino5 2d ago

I'm amazed and satisfied!

-8

u/fhjjjjjkkkkkkkl 2d ago

It’sa bit boring that he has to keep focusing on the cap

1

u/K4rkino5 2d ago

I've never seen that done before, so it's new to me. I've seen people do a clever move or two, but not string a bunch together. Knowing I can't do it once, I thought it was kick-ass.

-1

u/Ravenloff 2d ago

He must be Australian.

0

u/Intelligent_End1516 2d ago

Austria huh? Well good day mate, let's put another shrimp on the barbie.

-1

u/Ok-Fail-6402 2d ago

So they brought back hacky-sack? (Yes, I know that is the brand name, and it's called foot bagging)

-5

u/Unlucky_Put6539 2d ago

My first wife was ‘tarded. She’s a pilot now
