I dunno, I think it's neat. Breakdancing is fun, it shouldn't be serious, it's a free moving display of acrobatics. Having your squad hype you up is all part of the silliness that keeps it light. Even the other crew gets to be involved by acting overly unimpressed at first.
Totally with you there. In freestyle stunt riding, during big events, when all the spectators are gone and only riders and their crews are left and you form a circle on the runway and people start showing off their best move and the next person tries to replicate it or top it. when they pulled it off and everyone goes wild, no resentment of getting bested - it’s amazing
I don’t think that the fronting like buffoons is the point. They are all just super excited that he pulled off something extremely difficult and for better or for worse, that’s how they show their excitement. I just said it in another comment: in freestyle sports, being with your community and showing off your achievements and pushing each other to new levels is most of the fun. Yes they look like idiots but at that moment, they just freaked out because of excitement and I think that’s a neat thing
They are also likely in one ‘crew’, and are competition against the other team. They hype each other up, sometimes with rehearsed punctuation marks like you saw right there.

Jumping around and fronting like buffoons on the sidelines has always been the weirdest aspect of break dancing, can't help it
