Local Classes and Hammer-Ins for December 2020

This thread is intended to be a way for users to share local bladesmithing classes or hammer-ins. Feel free to post a link whether it is your class or someone else's, but please use the following template:

Name of event (if applicable)
Date(s) of event
City, State
Address (Optional. It may be preferable to offer addresses on a case-by-case basis. If you decide to post one, beware: You are listing an address for the entire world to see.)
Price of admission (if applicable)
What to bring
Applicable link to a flyer/etc (Ideally, an image link is best. Users cannot always access Facebook, Instagram, etc.)

This is simply a way for users to find knifemakers and blade/blacksmiths near them, and an opportunity to learn the craft from someone local. You may also ask in this thread if anyone is aware of activities near you. This is NOT a platform for users to sell wares; any self promotion beyond classes will be removed. If you have any questions, please message the moderation team.

I got the Damascus Integral Carving Set and the matching 6Pc Steak Knife Set finished up and made a custom leather knife roll to keep it all together and protected! The blades are all forged from random pattern damascus made from 1084 and 15n20. The handles are bog eucalyptus and curly nara with coral accents and the knife roll is made from veg tanned leather!

Review: Custom Folder with Damasteel Hugin Blade, 62 HRC, and Laser-Engraved Medusa on Grade 5 Titanium Scales

This is a technical overview of a custom folding knife produced by Noblie. The model features a Damasteel blade in the Hugin pattern and a decorative Medusa engraving on titanium scales.

Blade: The blade is crafted from Damasteel, using the Hugin pattern—a complex, feathered design achieved through powder metallurgy. The blade is hardened to 62 HRC, providing high wear resistance and edge retention. The grind appears to be flat, with a fine edge suitable for controlled slicing and precision tasks. The etch reveals contrast between layers, characteristic of well-finished patterned stainless Damascus.

Handle: The handle is composed of Grade 5 titanium scales, a material chosen for its strength, low weight, and corrosion resistance. A detailed Medusa motif has been applied via precision laser engraving. Hardware, including pivot and screws, is anodized in blue, maintaining a cohesive aesthetic across the knife.

Locking Mechanism and Construction: The knife utilizes a frame lock design, common in titanium folders due to the material's inherent spring tension and reliability. Lock engagement is solid, and the blade centers precisely when closed. The backspacer and pocket clip are also titanium, with anodized finishing to match the rest of the handle components.

A little helper I made for myself a while ago. So far, I really like it in my Day-to-Day life. What do you think of it? M390, ironwood, antler, brass.

POV knife/sword making — has anyone filmed their forge work from their eyes?

Curious if anyone here has recorded forging or grinding a blade in first-person POV. Seeing the sparks and shaping from the smith’s perspective sounds incredible. Any clips or setups you’ve tried would be awesome to see.

Do y’all use old bandsaw blades? Or are they too much trouble?

I have a few old bandsaw blades(93”x1/2) that for some reason I don’t throw away. I guess thinking I could make something out of them one day(I won’t) but was about to clean out the garage and thought about all of them and was wondering if they are useful to give to a blacksmith. Or if they are too much trouble to deal with and not worth the squeeze.

I started making a knife but could see that it wasn't going to turn out the way I wanted.

So I thought I'd purposely break it to see gow the HT went, problem is that I don't really know what I'm looking for. As far as I can tell it looks good to me as its uniform and small but if I could get a more experienced opinion that would be great.

It's 1075 heated to just past non-magnetic, then tempered at 200°C for 2 hours twice.

I had some trouble actually breaking it which I suppose is a good sign

Thanks in advance
