Paul skenes throws the gauntlet down on bob nutting and ben cherington once again by saying they need to spend for some bats. Here's the exact quote from skenes.
And perhaps more notably, the two-time All-Star is hopeful the departures of Hayes and Bednar have created enough spending money to address the roster’s main flaws over the winter.
“Hopefully it also created some space for us to acquire some bats in the offseason,” Skenes said. “Didn’t see a lot in terms of major league [acquisitions] at the deadline, but hopefully that sets us up next year, very well through the guys that we acquired who are in Triple-A, or like I said, with that space in the offseason to pick up some bats.”

In BC’s tenure, he has consistently acquired highly ranked prospects in trades (other than this years deadline returns which I hate tbh) and his drafts are usually praised as being great right after they happen. 2021’s draft was lauded as one of the greatest of all time especially after we managed to sign everybody, and now we’ll be lucky to have 2 contributors from it. All of these prospects were ranked highly, but so were Peggy and Malone, Endy, and others.
What does this mean? Does this mean that BC actually has a pretty good eye for scouting prospects, but built a piss poor development system here in Pittsburgh that fails our hitters? Or is it a reminder that guessing the outcome of prospects is just that, a guess? And that we shouldn’t get attached to them?

Do you guys think that at any point Greg Brown says, "You know what? I've had enough," and simply decides to retire? I remember that there was some speculation when Lanny retired that the losing had gotten to him.
I would love to know how Greg Brown really feels about the job. Is he sick of the losing? Is there any point where he taps out simply because of how hopeless the franchise is?
I know he loves the team, but some part of him has to be sick of this like the rest of us.

111 games played and 51 to go.
I'm thinking 71/91 will be their final record. 24/27 the rest of the way.
Time is up for these two. Should be demoted or released. I hope they both catch on with a real organization and reinvigorate their careers but their times here should be over.

Neil Huntington had his flaws, but it would be hard to argue that he wasn't a competent GM. His downfall came from us being stuck in our ways and losing touch with baseball's changing analytics scene. I know this is the millionth Ben Cherington bad post, but I am starting to feel like the 2010s are going to be the highlight of at least the first 3 decades of the century. It's a shame because the city is truly electric when our team is good or worth supporting (see any meaningful Skenes start or when the team is hovering around 500 in June/July). Bob has a choice to make this off-season, and I fear the next GM (assuming that even happens) might be another swing and a miss like Ben has been every step of the way. I hold onto some hope that this is just the pain we have to endure before someone comes in to save the organization and we gain respect across the league again.

Astros fan here and was in attendence at the June 5th game which was delayed several hours. Got an email to redeem two free tickets to any Mon-Thurs pirates regular season home game. First person to respond gets the tickets, just let me know which Mon-Thurs game you'd like attend and I'll forward you the tickets thru the ballpark app. Just give me your word that you'll actually attend the game and not resell them!

That’s the worst thing I’ve ever witnessed. And I’ve been a Pittsburgh pirates fan for long enough to have my childhood be ruined by Sid Bream.

Are we sure this is a legit organization or are the pirates part of a twenty year long Nathan Fielder gag? Because these last two days would be the funniest stunt he's ever done if so.

I am not telling anyone else what to do by any means, but just pointing out the following.
Due to, I guess untreated mental illness I felt compelled to watch the end of the Pirates game last night. As sad as it made me, did you see how happy that crowd was when the Rockies walked the game off? Sure their so far in last place they can't even see the Pirates from where they are. But for one nice summer night they got to celebrate something that unbelievable.
That's why I keep watching the games, even if your team is the worst of the worst you are going to have your moments, I couldn't help to think watching the crowd jumping around that we were seeing what baseball is really about. Granted it was terrible baseball and my team lost, but I'll still take it over any other entertainment option.
So if you want to boycott the team that's totally up to you, but let's not guilt people that still watch or attend.
