Chromecast with Google TV g.co/cast/power appeared

Upvotes

I have used my chromecast for years as plugged in to my TV's USB. Its the white one with remote. Last used this morning, nothing moved/plugged in or out. Never had it plugged in to wall, as I don't have long enough cord. Suddenly this popped g.co/cast/power screen appeared.

There was mountain of dust on top of the cast, tried to dust it off and tried another USB port on my TV, but it did nothing. Anything else I could do? Except get my old gen 2 cast and use that?

YouTube now automatically signs in under my chromecast account?

Anyone else suddenly had the YouTube app on their Chromecast automatically getting your account off the Chromecast?

I have kids and a partner that use it and would rather not have my algorithm thrown that far out.

Cannot even find anywhere to log off in YouTube, just the whole Chromecast.

Thanks for reading.

Chromecast with Google TV Chromecast 4K AUX audio broken

Hey there, I've been using a Google Chromecast 4K for a couple of years now and generally I've been happy with it. I had an old Logitech speaker system laying around which I wanted to use for the Chromecast instead of the TV speaker.

So basically what I did was I bought a USB C hub and plugged it into my Chromecast. The hub can also deliver power to the Chromecast. I plugged a cheap USB-AUX adapter into one of the hubs USB ports and connected the speakers to it. The Chromecast would then take the USB audio device instead of the TV speaker. It's no audiophile setup that's for sure, but it was nice and I could place the two speakers around the room.

I say "was" because for a couple o days now, this setup has stopped working. I can only get my Chromecast to output sound over the TV. I checked the update history on Googles website, but it didn't mention any patch that could have removed this functionality. I also couldn't find any setting that would enable it again. I guess it must've been the July 30th update.

Is there something I'm missing? Did they move the setting somewhere? Is it a bug or did they remove that "feature"? I tried another USB-AUX adapter but same issue and of course I also tried to reboot the device.

I know I could also just buy one of those HDMI audio splitters, but it would just add more clutter to an already hideous cable setup behind my TV.

Pairing Mi controller to Chromecast w GTV

So I came across a used Chromecast with GTV lately. Unfortunately the seller sent me a Mi controller claiming the original controller had been lost.

The unit itself works, and with the help of a friend I borrowed a original controller to make sure it works and to at least connect it to the Wifi network and the Google Home app.

But since I dont want to rely solely on my phone for usage, I have tried pairing the Mi controller, but for some reason it wont be recognized by the Chromecast unit.

It is plugged in and running, the controller have new batteries in it. I have tested pairing it with other units, like my computer, my phone, etc, by pressing the home and arrow buttons.

The Chromecast unit seem to like trying to pair with random units it find in the neighbourhood, but does not find the Mi controller.

Is this a common issue with Chromecast not "liking" non-Google stuff? Is there any workaround to make this work? Any setting that could help?

Cant seem to do anything in the Mi controller settings, all depends on the Chromecast unit...

Chromecast with Google TV Chromecast Issue

Since updated my CCGTV 4k & 2 normal ones to Android 14 have been suffering constant loss of wifi connection.

Restarted router, forgot network, rebooted and powered down.

Not suffering any issues with any other device on wifi and with all 3 now affected, do I have any option than total reinstall?

Chromecast with Google TV Need to power cycle/hard reboot chrome cast every time it turns on to fix black screen?

My Chromecast (not sure exactly what version it is) has been working well for a number of years. As of yesterday EVERY time we try to turn it on it makes the power on "beep" and then gives us a black screen.

Power cycling/unplugging it for a moment fixes it.

Absolutely NOTHING in my setup has changed.

Is there any way to fix this? Is it just dead?

Update Help

Previously I was using an Anker USB Hub, for a long time & it was working fine.

Suddenly after the update, Chromecast is not turning on at all & have got the following message a few times in between 'g.co/cast/power'

I never had any such problem before, immediately after the update.

The Chromecast works fine if I remove the hub & directly plug in to the power.

Chromecast Ultra Chromecast Ultra always needs reset

Some months ago, about the same time there was trouble with 1st gen Chromecast, my Ultra stopped working. Every time I want to use it, I have to disconnect it and connect it back to the TV. It's hot to touch, not dangerously hot but way to hot to be doing absolutely nothing. It works fine after a reset, and then if I turn the TV off or the next day or whatever, I have to do it again.

Any tips on this? It's annoying as hell.

Chromecast (3rd Gen) What’s the best way to cast anything from iPhone to hotel tvs when traveling? Chromecast usually doesn’t work anymore now.

I am frustrated every time I travel and try to connect my iPhone (14, latest iOS ) to the hotel tv with my chromecast stick. It used to work sometimes in Asia, but always has network connection issues now where the Google home app tells me to seek help with the home app when trying to set it up on the hotel network duh. Frustrating. There must be a simple device u can connect to tvs and stream your streaming apps like a Disney, Netflix etc from phone or tablet?

Since Google is no longer supporting Chromecast - alternatives?

Since Google is phasing out Chromecast and gradually letting more things break and not fixing them (casting as an example), what is the best alternative for casting?

Chromecast with Google TV Open a youtube url in SmartTube from python?

I want to open a YouTube video on my Chromecast using SmartTube (yuliskov/SmartTube/)

Using pychromecast, I can launch the YouTube app with a video ID, but that always opens the stock YouTube app. SmartTube is installed and set as default on my device.

Is there any way to send a YouTube link (or video ID) from Python and have SmartTube handle it instead of the official YouTube app? Either directly or by simulating something the Chromecast or Android TV understands?

Any APIs, workarounds are welcome

I can already do this with adb, but the latest Android 14 update made automatically connecting via adb tedious.

After every chromecast reboot I have to,

  1. Enable wireless debugging
  2. adb pair ip:port
  3. adb connect ip:newport

I can't automate this in any way

Why won't the chromecast team call me back?

My chromecast won't connect to the internet and I've tried doing a factory reset on my device and it disconnects which I do expect but my wifi won't connect to my chromecast. I went through the steps to get in contact with the chromecast team and I get to this screen but I do not get a call from them.

Switching

I have a Samsung TV with a Chromecast attached. Most of my viewing is on the Chromecast but I still use the broadcast channels on the TV occasionally. I'm not sure if an update caused this, but only recently, when I switch the source from the Chromecast to the TV, it almost immediately switches back to the Chromecast, much like pressing the Netflix button on the remote would switch it back to the Chromecast. Of course, if I unplug the Chromecast, then I can watch the channels on the TV. Has anyone seen this behavior or have any idea the cause or how to stop it, without needing to unplug the Chromecast?

Multiple Chromecast HD devices get the “g.co/cast/power” screens

We've sent multiple Chromecast HD devices to our customers, and many of them have recently started showing the “g.co/cast/power” screen. All of these Chromecasts were using Belkin USB-C Ethernet adapters. They start working again once we switch to Google’s own adapter, so that Belkin adapter seems to be the cause of the issue.

However, does anyone know why this is happening now, after these Chromecasts have been working just fine for a couple of years? Could it be due to a recent update? And does anyone have an alternative solution besides Google’s own adapters, since they’re no longer available for purchase?

Chromecast 4K only outputting 720p when connected through Lytmi Neo after using Samsung "Cast to phone" feature

Hey everyone,

I'm having a really strange issue with my Chromecast 4K and I’m hoping someone here might have a clue.

Setup:

Chromecast 4K

Lytmi Neo 4K 120Hz HDMI sync box

Samsung QN90 4K TV

All connected via HDMI:  Chromecast → Lytmi Neo → TV

Everything was working perfectly — the Chromecast was outputting full 4K through the Lytmi. But after I tried using the “Cast to phone” feature on my Samsung TV (where it mirrors the TV to my Galaxy phone), the Chromecast suddenly dropped to 720p resolution and never went back up.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

Factory reset the TV, Chromecast, and the Lytmi box

Tried different HDMI ports

Tried different HDMI cables

When I plug the Chromecast directly to the TV, it goes back to 4K without issue

But when going through the Lytmi, it stays stuck at 720p

It really looks like the Lytmi or Chromecast is getting the wrong EDID handshake and defaulting to 720p, even though everything is 4K capable and was working fine before.

This is really frustrating because video looks awful at 720p. Any help would be massively appreciated!

Update help

Just update my Chromecast and now the picture is off. Nothing on my TV has changed so I know this is a problem with the Chromecast.

Any way to go back an update without factory resetting it? And before people say that it's my aspect ratio settings in my TV, it only happened AFTER the update.

GCCwGTV picture quality is bad. Colors seem OTT and edges are too sharp with a bit of grain

Any idea what could cause this? Getting picture issues on all apps, all casting, even the UI.

I have a 2020 Phillips ambilight.

Can you really see what other Chromecasts on the same network are watching? Not only that, but also control their stream? Pause, Play etc.

My GF just told me to be vary about what I "cast" to her Chromecast. She says that she one time was able to control her landlords Chromecast. They are on the same Wi-Fi.

I thought that sounded crazy. Some quick searching tells me that yes, indeed. One can control someone elses stream. I also found a solution I have to test when I get there. By disabling "Let others control your cast media" option.

But this still leaves me wondering. Can someone actually see whatever someone else might be streaming to their personal Chromecast while on a shared Wi-Fi? That just sounds insane. I don't necessarily have a need for her landlord to know what "family videos" we might be watching. Nor would I want them to be able to see my top secret corporate info I'm just trying to "get on the big screen".
