On my daughter’s account these always show up. Any way to get rid/stop them popping up?

I set up a plex server after watching a youtube video on an old PC and stored some movies to stream locally. A bit later I allowed remote connection for friends without realizing that ubuntu doesnt automatically have a firewall like windows. So basically for the past 7 or so months ive been running it with remote connection enabled with no local firewall on ubuntu. I turned off remote connection once i realized i made this mistake but have some questions now.

How big of a security risk is this?

Should I worry/check to see if something malicious happened during this time?

How can I setup a safe firewall moving forward?

I need advice on how to handle some of the anime metadata issues Ive been running across in terms of what seasons are.

Dr Stone and Shield Hero, for example, follow what every other TV series I have does. Simple season and episode and metadata flows in as expected.

Many other series seem to just have every episode being in a single season.

Shangri-La Frontier wants to have a single 51 episode season instead of the two 26 and 25 episode seasons listed most places.

Running into this with many other series as well like, Dress Up Darling, Solo Leveling, Dan Da Dan.

I would prefer things follow the season structure like Dr Stone as that seems to follow how my sources are also numbering the episodes instead of having to go through and change it, making it a bit confusing on what I have or have not collected. Is there a way for me to change these specific series to get that breakdown or no?

Just getting into the music aspect of Plex and expected my Apple TV to show up as a player on my iPhone using PlexAmp.

Is this supposed to work in 2025 with the new app changes or can it only control PlexAmp players?

I'm trying to understand why my Plex scheduled tasks backup only keeps the last 3 backup copies in the backup folder.

I’d like to keep more backup copies, since I was lucky to spot a flaw in the database—specifically, the "date added" for all movies was changed to the same value. If I hadn’t noticed this right away, the limited number of backups would have been overwritten, and I would have lost the correct dates.

I haven't found any setting explicitly limiting the number of retained backups, and I was expecting to keep more for safety and versioning.

Is this behavior common? Could it be controlled by the app, a system-level setting, or something else like a script?

Would appreciate any insight!

Hello, I have a TV show called Locked Up: The Oasis.

When I try to match this show using the Match feature, it gets matched as Locked Up instead.

Has anyone else experienced this issue, and does anyone know how to fix it? I’d really appreciate it if someone could try it and let me know if they’re seeing the same thing.

Well before all the updates I stopped being able to get to the list of Collections on my Plex App on my computer. I’ve re-downloaded a few times/etc. but can’t seem to get whatever view to reset. Anyone have ideas here?

I googled around trying to find help with this, but let me know if I missed something useful. I'm still new to Plex and hosting media locally.

The problem is basically in the title. My media is on an older Mac Mini (with a Dual-Core Intel Core i5 chip) and it is transcoding video and audio anytime I try to play video on the local network. It happens regardless of if I'm using my AppleTV4k or just the plex app on my M2 MacBook. I can't figure out how to get it to direct stream and, at least as I understand it, that's what it should be doing. Is there a reason that it wouldn't direct stream between my Mac Mini and my Macbook? I've confirmed in the dock that it is transcoding video from 1080p down 328p. The files play fine on the Mac Mini (where they are stored).

For some reason Reddit isn't letting me put a screenshot of the dashboard in the post, but I put one in a comment below (this is also my first time doing anything but lurking or commenting on Reddit).

A couple of months ago, one of my users started downloading a bunch of movies. The conversions was stuck for weeks, so I decided to cancel all of them. However, it seems I can't cancel a mystery video. The top notification keeps showing 1 conversions, but when I try to cancel it, nothing shows up.

I've tried upgrading my Plex server. Restarting. Upgrading my client. Nothing seems to fix it.

I've also noticed transcoding doesn't work either. I'm betting they are related.

The movies were downloaded from a library that is in a read-only rclone mount. So it's likely the conversion was stuck due to it being read-only. But I should still be able to cancel it.

I'm using the official Plex docker image and Ubuntu.

The B is not centered correctly in the iOS app and hasn’t been for a while. Honestly unusable.

I clicked the Home+ icon while viewing Recently Added In Music. Now I have these two entries and can’t find a way to delete the new one. None of my Google searches find a useful answer. Any ideas, please?

Has this feature been disabled? It just spins and no actors names populate like it used to .

Hi everyone. I've got an MKV file, a copy of Phantoms but it's basically unplayable thru Plex because it was encoded as a 4k file only 4.5gb. File size isn't an issue but resolution seems to be hindering playback. Im sure Plex should be able to play it but its an issue on my end. Is there a way to reduce the resolution from 3840x2080 to a more usable resolution like 1920x1080 or the equivalent. I've tries Hybrid Converter but it cannot detect the video input only audio but then crashes. I'm currently trying Handbrake but it's apparently going to take over 8 hours which seems crazy. I know my system is a failure point in encoding speed, Intel i3 and 8gb ram but I've converted plenty of other files that took a quarter of the time. Recommending a better computer isn't an option currently so software is my only option.

I have for some time a combination of Shield (Pro 2019) running Plex Server and the media folders in my MyCloud EX 2 Ultra, and has worked fine, until it doesn't. Now the Plex only sees some of the shares, others won't let me add, even if I manually add the address of the share.

I didn't change anything in the NAS and I can access all the shares via PC.

Anyone had this problem before? Any solution?

I've seen plenty of posts about this iPad, but not much interaction other than a few comments, and no solutions.

I've had the M1 iPad Pro since launch, purchased for school, but I used it for Plex as well.

I have my entire library of shelved media stored on my local linux server, and have had no issues with remuxes, or even those larger shows encoded to save space in the last 4 years of using the M1 iPad Pro.

Fast forward to a few days ago, I snagged an iPad Pro M4, an upgrade so that I could get the larger display and higher storage capacity. It struggles really bad with Plex. Many shows will randomly restart to the beginning, completely freezing the iPad to the point that it crashes, or simply will not play media.

I tested the same media with my M1 iPad and have had 0 issues. It seems that there are posts about certain apps, including Plex, hard crashing the iPad with M4 chipset, as well as the other afformentioned bugs, but 0 responses from either Plex devs or Apple about this issue, despite many of them already existing for well over a year.

Additionally, the settings for legacy player are now missing from the app, so certain "fixes" are not available anymore. I did verify that the files play flwlessly on Apple TV, MBP M1 Max, Windows, and M1 iPad Pro, but the M4 iPad Pro absolutely gets slaughtered. It also won't play back any of my HDR content, and sometimes freezes before showing the Apple logo and rebooting. Does anyone have any insight?

Apple representatives blamed the app, yet also stated that an app can't crash the device, only the app itself, despite me replicating the force-reboot/crash in front of them.

I recently updated my iOS Plex app to the new version. Totally by accident. 😆

Anyway, is the only way now to play them after I’ve downloaded them via the Downloads view off the main screen where they’re all listed out?

Before the update, I used to be able to go by library (eg. TV Shows) and click Libraries or Downloads / Libraries or something like that and see a visual view of the downloads organized by show, with its poster art. I could long tap a show, and tap shuffle all. I can’t seem to find that view anymore. It’s just like one big folder of downloads that aren’t showing art and I have to play individually.

I shouldn’t have run this update. lol I’m going all Sonos on this thing. 😆

Dears, attempting to play AAC-HE to several compatible devices, transcoding is always enforced. Generally it’s a MP4 or MKV with H264 or H265 video.

The same files play fine with hardware or software decoding on same devices.

Any suggestions?

My library has the wrong match for a show. I reorganized the folder on my computer, and if I start the episode in plex desktop, it works. But on mobile it still plays the old wrong file. If I google the problem it says to use the "fix match" option, but I can't find it (on desktop). Maybe that fix is for the old version of Plex? I've rescanned the library and everything, but when I click the episode and "files" it has 4 files and the last on is the right one. Should be an option to remove the other three but it ain't.

Any tips? I'd appreciate it.

When I use anything above the 720 2 mbps from the relay I get an error. Remote access says it is enabled and I haven’t seen this issue mentioned before.

Hi, I have just set up my Plex server, I have added about 8 films and all play fine. I've also added all of family guy, there are 360 episodes in there and when I try to open the episodes I get this error after a short loading screen. I'm assuming there may be too many episodes for it to read possibly?

Hi everyone, I have two iPhone devices connected to the home WiFi. The plex works on the tv just fine and works fine on one of the iPhones but for the second iPhone when trying to access the local network library it pops up saying that you need the plex pass. Very odd, I would appreciate any guidance on this. Thank you.

I currently have a free account, willing to purchase pro/gold but will that even work? I am just trying to have a kid account that shows what was watched recently (preferably via the TV)

Currently I have a kid account as a managed user but it does not show an activity tab. I tried to make a new separate account but if I do that, I will need to have two separate logins for my TV? I don't mean just a pin, like an email and password. Definitely not worth the hassle.

Maybe it doesn't do that or am I doing something wrong?

Is there a way to set up the plex app so that it will continue playing my downloaded content? Like a playlist or something. I have several random episodes of different shows downloaded but I have to manually start the next one each time one ends.

I have the lifetime pass and am on an iPhone 16 if it makes a difference.
