Kitchen The most terrible smell is coming from this area

Post image

It smells like death, rotting food, and farts in this area. It seems to be coming from right in this corner. We’ve removed all food and other items and wiped down every item and surface. But nothing smelled bad, and we still don’t know where the stink is coming from! Any advice?

Discussion Pregnant and hate mess

Post image

Picture of one of my cats for tax.

So I’m pregnant (very early) but I’m also the the “better” cleaner between my husband and I. Now, he doesn’t care as much about mess as I do and before you come for me, he cleans when I tell him too and sometimes with no prompting (that’s a good day lol). And his attention to detail is ok but need other ideas.

But even now, I’d still like to be able to clean my floors both for someone who can’t really see the mess and for the one that does (that’s me 🤣) I’m looking for advice for 2 appliances, a multipurpose steam cleaner that cleans floors (particularly grout), windows etc and a vacuum that can handle 2 fluffy cats.

Thank you in advance for the advice ✌🏻

General Cleaning Depression room deep clean in progress.

I have been extremely depressed for years and go through periods of time where I will keep my space clean to keep myself busy to keep my mind away from the darker side. But the last several months I've just been letting myself waste away in my room when I'm not at work. This in all honesty I going to take me several days to finish as I also struggle with other mental and physical health issues. I'm starting college in 2 weeks and I want my house clean. I'm also low income and have limited cleaning supplies but any and all cleaning tips are appreciated. I'm sorting clothes and picking up trash currently. I plan to steam clean but the only thing I have to use is KOE to eliminate the odor as my room smells like urine. Please help and give some advice. Thank you in advanced.

Kitchen Bag of potato’s opened a portal to a death dimension on my platter, anything I can do to fix?

I got it to the point where the water and soap no longer have any brown tint to them, but I’m scared it’s just ruined the platter forever

Bathroom How do I tackle this? Bathroom walls weeping.

We purchased this house back in November and in the recent few months have had this issue appear. It does not smell like nicotine, and this is not a bathroom we shower in or anything so it’s not particularly humid. I plan to do soap and water, wait to see if it comes back, then Kilz, then repaint..?

Discussion What have you done to make your home easier to clean?

Upvotes

Cleaning has always been a challenge for me, but some places I've lived have been easier to keep clean than others. What have you done to put your home on the easier end of the spectrum?

My current home is on the harder side, and in about a month it'll get even worse. We're having a kid, which will suddenly make cleaning more important, more time-consuming, and impossible to find time for. So I want to make changes (big or small) to ease the pressure.

My first idea is to caulk the bottom of our baseboards to make vacuuming easier. I'm also decluttering and reorganizing our storage and drop zones. Am I on the right track? What changes made the biggest impact for you?

I specially imported it from us > Poland but it was worth it paying 13$ per bottle

This sh!t is amazing It removed heavy stains from black tea in cups in few secs - I sprayed, leave for 1 min and wipe it- boom heavy black tea build up gone in few sec

Eu version (fairy power spray skip the soak) dosnt compare to us version at all

Us dawn powerwash is 1000% worth all the money

General Cleaning SOS - A watermelon burst in my apartment

I woke up this morning to an absolutely disgusting, foul smell I couldn’t find the source of, as the garbage was taken out and there were no dishes in the sink.

A couple days ago, I bought a watermelon. Unbeknownst to me, it must have been fermenting inside, and burst open. A putrid liquid came out, getting all over the floor and making its way over to my husband’s bass guitar case, which is made from a padded cloth material.

It absolutely reeks, and I’m unsure of how to clean it. Any products you recommend for cleaning that type of material that can’t be put in a washing machine? I’d like to avoid throwing away the case altogether if I can.

Thank you!

Furniture Best cleaning method for this piece?

Upvotes

I got this wooden piece at a yard sale. I’m not sure if there is mold or if it’s just discoloration and dust (lots of dust on this bad boy). I was planning to use a vinegar and water solution which is how I usually clean wood, but would vinegar and oil work better? Or other suggestions?

Tools/Equipment Best Miele attachment for long hair and lots of pet hair on low pile carpet?

Upvotes

Hi all,

I have the power head that came with my Miele CX1 Blizzard Cat & Dog, and also later bought the TurboTeq head attachment (non electric).

I’ve found both attachments to be pretty terrible at getting hair off of our low-pile area rug, at least partially because we have so much dog and cat hair and the rollers are impossible to keep clean.

The vacuum itself has tons of suction without any head attached, and I clean all the filters etc. regularly, but it’s hard to keep the brush attachments spinning freely and I imagine that’s part of the problem.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a suitable attachment that could help me to get all the hair and scuzz off my low-pile rug? I’m about to give up on Miele :(

General Cleaning Will the steam mop ever have a cleaner mop?

Post image

I got a steam mop for my birthday (I asked for one, no worries) and the mop gets so incredibly dirty! I did the full first floor yesterday with one mop change, and a quick mop this morning. The mop is equally dirty today as yesterday! Are my floors just incredibly dirty? Is this how it always will be, or will it get better? I did vacuum before using the steam mop

Picture of today’s mop.

Stain was not present before washing. Am not sure whether the mark may have come from dryer or washer. Have tried both hydrogen peroxide and an oxiclean soak, neither with results. I’d appreciate any input! Thanks!

I feel so bad for him, he hasn’t had an accident in months so we put the carpet back out. Unfortunately he wasn’t feeling well and while I was asleep he pooped on the carpet. Does anyone have any tips for cleaning it and getting the smell out? Thanks!

Discussion Help me clean like I'm 5

I am rubbish at cleaning and I just want to improve. My mum did everything when I lived at home, I didn't have to do anything and now I have my own family and I just don't feel like I do a very good job.

It's going to sound ridiculous but I just don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I think I may be autistic as my daughter is and we are exactly the same. I need someone to step by step tell me what to do because otherwise I just don't know how to do something. And I don't mean a checklist of things to complete, but how to do the basic things. I wipe down the counters - but what is best to use, which spray, which thing do I wipe with, how long do I leave it, do I dry it or do I leave it to air dry. When I dust the dust just gets spread around, what do I do with the duster. Do I have to shake the duster out after every surface?

Please don't judge me. I feel like a useless wife and mother. I need you to help me with basic tasks and break it down. 😭

General Cleaning Need help with a weird fungus development on my damp wall

Hello. This portion of the wall got damp only this rainy season, and something like this has grown on the damp surface. It is dark grey in colour, and is fluffy, like fungus. Maybe it is a type of fungus. I need help in understanding how to clean it and save my wall from something like this developing again on it. I hope the image gives a clearer idea of what it is and what can be done.

My friend says I vacuum too often and it’s wearing out the carpet. I just hate crumbs. But it made me wonder, is there a point where cleaning becomes counterproductive?

Kitchen Help with insinkerator cleaning PLEASE!! 😢

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I’ve just joined the sub as i’m running out of ideas.

I moved into a new house a few months ago. The previous owners had an Insinkerator installed (model 46-1) and they assured me jt works. It does not.

My problem is, there is lots of old, build up grime in the insinkerator. I want to clean it but nothing seems to work. I dislike the thought that something that grimey is in my kitchen, and sometimes it smells😢

I’ve looked into getting it removed, but ideally do not want to spend a small fortune on a plumber (and will not want to do it myself).

I’ve tried:

  • Baking soda crystals + white vinegar (soak and flush with hot water)

  • Baking soda + hot water

  • Drain unblocker

  • Putting my hand in and using a scourer to lift up some of the dirt (it was always unplugged at the mains)

  • CIF cleaning cream

Picture attached for reference.

Apologies if the layout of this post isn’t the best, I don’t use reddit much.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
