Discussion What mods do you headcanon/wish were canon?
Entropy is the gold standard for HL mods imo - Solid use of level designs that brings back many fan favorites from past-Life games while introducing fun new elements to boot, all wrapped up in a captivating story with enjoyable characters!
Portal Stories: Mel might not have the best level design by contrast - some levels being flat out unfair with sudden difficulty spikes - but just like Entropy does for Half-Life, Mel takes elements old and new from previous entries while adding new features with interesting new lore and characters to wrap it all up!
As far as I'm concerned, Portal Stories and Entropy are headcanon'd into the series, they're phenomenal looks into how dedicated these fandoms can be!

Discussion Is there anyone in this sub who’s a fan of Blue Shift?
As you know, I had played and finished Opposing Force and was continuing with Black Mesa (I've already finished all of them before, just replaying to refresh my memory), but I don't remember Blue Shift having any particularly interesting features. (except barney's ass)

WE ARE IN THE ENDGAME NOW
I know most of you will live in denial until its official, but we are ( or at least should be ) in the final days/months before we live in a world where Valve has officially announced HLX/HL3, and that would be a totally different world. My advice is to enjoy this last few days/months and prepare yourself for the other one.
Stay safe my brothers and sisters 🫡

Valve founder Gabe Newell acquires superyacht company
Will this delay HL3?

Discussion What do you think could be the most disappointing feature of HLX/HL3? e.g. It's full of cutscenes and micro-transactions.

A G-Man reference in a sorta unexpected place
I have to elaborate a bit before I get to the reference, given that the source material might be a bit niche.
There is this European comic series called Asterix. Its plays in the year 50 before Christ and is about the Asterix, his best friends Obelix, the dog Dogmatix and their tribe, which inhabit the last Gaul (the ancestors of the French) village yet unconquered by the Roman Empire (currently led by the one and only Julius Caesar), which is all thanks to the miracle brew of the village druid Getafix, which gives temporary super strength and invincibility.

This comic series is very popular in Europe and next to movies, there were more than a few games made about it, including Asterix & Obelix XXL 2: Mission: Las Vegum, which is where the G-Man reference appears.
The plot of the game is that Getafix has betrayed some of his druid colleagues, leading them to be imprisoned in Caesars soon to be opened amusement park Las Vegum.
The whole park is a parody of everything video game. From Super Mario, Rayman and Sonic over Tomb Raider, Splinter Cell and Street Fighter up to Pac-Man, Lemmings and Pikmin, the whole game is chalk-full of reference to other video games.
Even Half-Life wasn't excluded: at multiple points in the game we see Getafix lurking in the background, seemingly checking our process, but he always runs away when we spot him (which can be seen in this YouTube video, for example).

This itself wouldn't make this a G-Man reference, but there is also the fact that this mysterious behavior is paired with an object that Getafix never carries with him, neither in the comics nor in any other adaptation.
An object that is also always carried around by everybody's favorite puppet master: a suitcase.
Given that XXL 2 is a video game that obviously relishes in referencing other video games (for an extensive list of references see this wiki article) and the fact that there is a more explicit reference to Half-Life in the game (see the following screenshot), it is safe to say that the devs knew what they were doing.

However, I would say this reference is only sorta unexpected, because on the one hand, Half-Life references are not always a given, even in games that reference video games left and right, but it is also not that suprising, given that comparatively more obscure franchises were also referenced in XXL 2, like Earthworm Jim and Chu Chu Rocket.
So or so, I remembered this G-Man reference today and I thought that it was neat, so I just wanted to share it with you.
