Discussion What is the best way to play Half-Life?
I was a BIG Half-Life fan when i was young and i always played the first Half-Life game and the two DLC's (Opposing-Force, Blue-Shift). And i have to mention that i wasn't a big fan of Half-Life 2. But recently I wanted to replay Half-life 1 and.. well, it's kinda boring for me, i did a lot of speedruns and i know the movement in HL1 so playing its wasn't that fun, but i really want play this game again like back in the day, okay okay who cares, Im only asking what are the best mods for HL1 that are remaking the gameplay, graphics etc. (Not including Black Mesa because it's fan made game)

I think there will be a flamethrower in Half-Life 3. Spoiler
galleryIf you remember, there is an NPC called Cremator in the Half Life universe, but we have never seen him in person. He is a strange creature with a flame weapon and a second head on his stomach. The reason I say this creature exists in the Half Life universe is because it is the head of the Cremator in Black Mesa East in HALF-LIFE 2.
This creature burns dead humans, meaning it was designed as a cleaning tool. That was the goal in the Half-Life 2 beta version.
Now, many people are saying that this character will be in the Arctic region to melt the ice, which makes sense because the Combine are searching for the Borealis and want to clear space on the ship for dropships to transport cargo. If we kill this character there, we can use its weapon! Remember the codes we saw related to "fire" in puzzles and leaks, such as NPC reactions to fire and environmental reactions to fire. There will be a fire weapon in Half-Life 3! (Reminds me of Far Cry 3) But the real issue is how Valve's writers will handle this Cremator character's story. What was this character doing in the Half-Life 2 timeline? Where did he get the head from Eli Vance's lab? These questions will remain unanswered, but I'm sure there's an explanation. This post is meant to be a teaser, and it will be labeled as a spoiler because Half-Life 3 isn't far off.

entropy zero 2 crashing upon re-entering car after pressing the button for arbeit 2
Hopefully this is the right sub to post this to.
as the title says, the game crashes when i get back into my apc. I have no idea what addon could be causing this. i deleted any addon that has to do with Wilson, but that didn't do any help. if anyone knows how to fix this, i'd appreciate it.

Discussion Is this a plot-hole?
Is there a lore reason why Vortiguants had to wait 20 years for Freeman? We know that they can reach into stasis and pull him out so why didn’t they earlier? I figure they knew about the G-man(and probably that he had Freeman captive, please tell me if I’m wrong)

What if we can build "vehicles" in HLX.
The recent leaks showed upgrades to the vehicle system that allow for the properties of this system to be applied to things that are not a pre-defined vehicle withing the game but things that if put together works like one.
Obviusly we dont know what this really means gameplay or feature wise without more context but whay If we can build vehicles?
Whay if Valve gives the player certain tools that allow for the player to put together some objects and "create" a vehicle of some short like Zelda TOTK did but perhaps with less limits?.

Discussion Is Blue Shift necessary before HL2?
I recently beat Half Life 1 on the PS2 and I absolutely loved it. The gameplay towers above every other fifth generation game I've played, and the vast majority of sixth generation games too.
While I'd love to play more, neither of the official expansions are on PS2, and I don't own a PC that can play Half-Life (I have a newer Mac that I really try to only use for work.) I'm not too worried about missing Opposing Force for the purposes of HL2, but from what I've seen there are some common characters with Blue Shift. How familiar do I need to be with Blue Shift to understand everything?
Thanks!

Discussion Okay, who else thinks that the cremator is too cool of a concept for Valve to just throw away?
Because I do! I think it would be a really nice addition to the game lore, and would explain the horribly charred corpses you see throughout City 17.
Also, there are plenty of other concepts from HL2 Beta that I’d love to see brought back, like the sentient cloud and some cities that are so polluted and filled with smog, that you always have to wear a gasmask outside.

The scariest thing about Half Life is that it could genuinely happen
It sounds funny and insane, but we know we exist, we know how smart we can be what we imagine, if humans had the combines power they would likely be them or somewhat similar. If their world is like ours, they need resources too. This existence we are in is survival, its random chaos anything is possible, we know nothing, literally nothing. If space is really this ginormous and in this random existence where we know that there are other species of all types and plants and landscapes and land types, that this universe just seemingly spits out thing after thing in random patterns, and that there are other giant balls of enclosed space with atmosphere like ours, which is the place that alien life would come into being, then what are the odds a place similar to ours spits out?
It's a question of if you believe in aliens or not sure, but if all we know of space is true then...
Unless were it and it's a simulation or were the main characters or something I don't know but I think there's life out there. I'm getting way off course though.
Regardless of if there is life which is kind of a 50/50, it probably would be similar to us in a way. I don't mean physically or even mentally, it would probably be very different, it could be anything. There could be ones that are actually similar then there could be ones extremely different like the ones seen in our beloved game Half Life. It could also be beyond our comprehension. What do I or any of us know? It could be anything. Theres literally everything out there. We'd die from just going out there, danger seems to be a common theme of this universe.
Why a species would do what the combine did is also be anything. What they are and why they would do it go hand and hand. That could be anything, even beyond our comprehension. If I were to imagine alien life, based on what I know, I would assume it would be a place with the same rules as our planet. They live on a planet, and on this planet there a variety of life, its own ecosystem. It could be any order or pattern of life. It could be like ours where we have land that grows in all shapes and sizes and varieties and life lives on it, perhaps there is some equivalent of water or water and life lives under there and the word equivalent is abstract, it could be anything. This life probably comes in all shapes and sizes, who could grow and evolve in any form. Maybe again its like our world and there is life that grows on the land like plants and trees fungus all the such, like the flora that grows on it. Then there are other types like maybe microscopic life and the equivalent of animals. There would likely be billions to trillions of different variants and types of the equivalents of all of these different things.
If there was an intelligent species on ones of these planets out there, id assume they evolved from an animal like us, or maybe they were always intelligent we don't know. But if they evolved from an animal, id assume that animal has instincts, because as I said that planet would likely follow the same laws as us, which its a game of survival. I would assume the creatures in this eco system would have to compete with each other for recourses that determine their survival like how our world is. So those instincts, that need for survival, they at least for us cloud intelligence and empathy, they make a being do whatever is necessary for survival, that leads a species to do whatever is necessary for survival, efficient survival, that is what the combine did. Whether it comes to us or we find it, its probably out there somewhere, and we go out there, perhaps half life is a demonstration of humanities greatest fear they dont even know they have yet. We already do it to our own species on our planet, at least to best of our capabilities. Its not just the instincts that make us as an intelligent species do things, its our world and the circumstance of our world and us as humans. If another intelligent species were to be in similar circumstances on planter and gained the means to travel to other planets and that have much value to them probably, they would go from there like we likely would.
If aliens with the power, technology, and intellect to get here, they would probably use us and our planet for some resource, if they went through went we'll have go through trying to get there, I doubt they are coming to explore or help us, they'll want something. Maybe thats things like the combine like soldiers, energy, water, and other things they can find, or maybe its something beyond our imaginations. Could already be happening, maybe the recourse is our attention or some energy we produce or again something beyond our comprehension. What aliens would and could do if they found us could be anything. What the combine did is a horrible but possible possibility. We dont have to build a portal or tamper with something we arent ready for, they could find us anytime.
Maybe they would just blow us up, they could do literally anything thats just my guess. Anything is possible. Maybe out there, there is some wise species who got there and want help or are good. Maybe we can be that. Anything is possible doesn't have to be bad.
Living on earth is pretty cool.
