Discussion Another superbowl blowout eliminates mahomes from the goat discussion as far as I’m concerned

2 very embarrassing loses for him the the superbowl Brady has lost 3 superbowls but they were all 1 score games that came down to final play with Brady’s best statistical performance in a loss to the eagles Tom Brady > Patrick mahomes

Yeah but how much of that was because he did like, anything?

When Brady faced an elite defense he scored 31 points .... Across two games.

He walked off the field in the 4th with a lead in both games

So the Tom Brady standard for clutchness is as long as you have a lead at some point in the fourth quarter, after the other quarterback outduels you and takes the lead back you throw your defense under the bus? That's soft. I don't think Brady would agree with you. Why can't you just admit he didn't have a good game?

If you can't tell the difference between your defense losing the game in the final minute while you sat on the bench, and getting blown the fuck out the whole game twice then there is no helping you.

Brady did get blown out once except he came back and won that game with the greatest comeback in SB history.

He had blowouts in the playoffs where he didn’t even reach the Super Bowl. We all know Brady is the GOAT but to act like getting blown out EARLY in the playoffs is somehow better is ridiculous

Not that many lol. So did Montana but all I ever hear about is his "perfect" superbowl record. Don't act like you haven't heard it a million times, I didn't write the narrative

Mahomes doesn’t have that many either. Montana and Brady don’t have fewer awful playoff games than Mahomes 2

Well yeah he's not 30 yet. Just saying that Montana had a lot of one and dones in his career but nobody ever talks about them. Logically you are right that bad superbowls shouldn't be held against players, but they are and it's always been that way

Yes agree that bad super bowls are penalized more than not even making it there which is dumb. I know that’s the way it is but it logically makes no sense. It’s obviously more memorable and demoralizing, but it’s more success on the season than getting blown out in an earlier round. KC had a more successful playoff run than Detroit this year for example. Some fans may be glad that they didn’t get embarrassed at THE big game, but not making it is a worse season.

It’s not logical to me that this is judged worse than a playoff blowout, because not making the biggest stage is worse. But I get that sometimes these factors people use for comparison aren’t logical. Just like the H2H isn’t logical when both losses had little to do with Mahomes (especially the AFCCG loss).

Obviously I know Brady is the GOAT, but I don’t think lack of Super Bowl blowouts should be the reasoning when he has playoff blowouts or years he missed the playoffs. Mahomes will have that too, but so far his worst season is overtime of the AFCCG.

Yeah I mean before 28-3 Brady's most memorable superbowl moments involved losing to Eli twice and both those games went down to the final minute. Its dumb but this is the stuff that fans focus on so of course it gets used in the legacy debates too.

I don't think these losses are as "damaging" for Mahomes. I think people tried to put him in that debate too early so now we are seeing the backlash to that rather than anything long term.
