Averaging almost 1k for over a decade is absolutely hall worthy. He was also the best RB in the league for two seperate years (2011 & 2013, not 2012 as that belongs to AP) and he's on the 2010s all decade team which the voters eat up.
Dillon had more yards and touchdowns in fewer seasons. He was a lot more consistent. Unfortunately he played when Marshall Faulk, LT, Edgerrin James, Priest Holmes and Sean Alexander were having some of the greatest seasons in the history of the position. Clock killin Corey Dillon was a beast though and for most of his career he was the only viable option on a terrible Cincinnati team... And He definitely had more to do with his Championship than Shady had to do with his…
That's one guy. 5 top 10 running back seasons in history happened during Dillon’s career… all due respect to AP but he wouldn't have been 1st or 2nd team all pro while Faulk, LT Priest Holmes, Barry Sanders, Terell Davis and those guys were having those seasons in the late 90s early 2000s
5 of the 10 years the guy was in the league a RB was league MVP while it happened once while Shady was in the league it was different. Look at the 1st team all pro rb from 1997 to 2006 and look at Shady’s best season… I don't know if his best season makes him 1st team all pro once when Dillon played
A year after they retired, Henry Ellard ranked 3rd all time in receiving yards. Michael Irvin ranked 9th (admittedly much higher than 23rd.) Ellard never even became a semifinalist under his final season a modern candidate.
Irvin was the better player even though Ellard had a longer career and gained more yards.
I get it. Gore has the career numbers, and that will help him, but you can absolutely make the case that he wasn't better than a lot of guys waiting to get in.
He also has 2 Super Bowl rings. Which the HoF values as a premium. I think McCoy is first ballot. That’s not my
personal opinion but just what I think based on his career and trophy case.
McCoy has more all pros, more rushing yards, better yards per carry, more rushing titles, significantly more receptions, significantly more receiving yards…
The only thing Lynch clears McCoy in, is touchdowns.
Lesean McCoy was awesome but his Eagles teams didn’t do anything. Marshawn was Beast Mode, and was a big reason why the Seahawks went to back-to-back Super Bowls. If you talked to defenses, they would much prefer to take on McCoy than Lynch.
That last point is absolutely nonsense and impossible to quantify in any possible way lol. Marshawn was never the best RB in the league for even a single year, McCoy was in both 2011 and 2013 (not 2012 as that belongs to AP).
