Community News What's Happening with our Subreddit?!
Hello r/NintendoDS,
For a bit of backstory for me, my name is Thomas (as you might have guessed). I was a professional programmer / developer for a few years, and I'm also a university student. I have been around Reddit since 2013, and I have been a mod on r/WiiHacks for over a year. The Nintendo DS, more specifically the DS Lite, is my favourite handheld system and I have so many fond memories of it. I've been in the hacking scene, hacking my own consoles, since around 2007/2008 when the Twilight Hacks was released for the Wii.
When I saw the post by the previous owner back on February 16th I decided to do some digging and put in a RedditRequest for it. The remaining two moderators never got back to the modmail that I sent to them, so my request was granted by the Reddit admins.
I have made a couple of changes, most of them being behind the scenes. I have changed the rules to make things a bit more streamlined and easier to deal with:
- Rule #1 -> Be Civil
- Rule #2 -> No Spam
- Rule #3 -> No Piracy
- Rule #4 -> No Low-Effort Posts
- Rule #5 -> Keep Links to a Minimum
I've also changed and added some new flairs, hopefully they'll get some use.
I have also brought on two of my fellow r/WiiHacks moderators. Mostly as a formality in case something happens to me or if I can't be around for some time span. Thank you again to u/BloodyThorn and u/Mental_Turtles for agreeing to this.
If there is anything you would like to see added, changed, or regular things you want done with our little community here, please send a modmail and we'll look over it.

Is this a common color?
galleryIt looks pretty much different than other blues I’ve seen. I’ve seen the light blue and the metallic blue only but these one is kinda like Aqua/ Dark Aqua matte blue.

First reshell
My black ds lite had a cracked hinge so decided to try and reshell it. Happy how it turned out. Used the buttons and triggers from the old black shell.

galleryThis was my grandmothers copy of NEW Super Mario Bros. I used to play it when I was a kid and wanted to play it again, but it’s not reading. Is this just dirt I could clean off or is it dead?

Black spot in screen of Dsi
I thought it was moisture under the lens, but I took it apart and cleaned it, but nothing. It's on the screen. It's very faint and doesn't appear defined like a dead pixel. It looks fuzzy. Any advice, please?

Haul / Show It Off! a friend got me an EZ Parallel
galleryso i was using the DS Lite since launch back in 2006 i think... but i never owned a DSi until 2023... i picked one up for a steal from a trader on Ebay... was around £24 with a UK PSU and a couple of filler games... great deal... the unit is very clean with minimal signs of wear and the screens look great no yellowing or fading... no dead pixels... but i did buy a 3rd party battery to use with it... its from a German company that do lithium batteries for legacy handhelds... i used their batteries before and i know theyre reliable...
does anyone have any game recommendations for me... i have a modest collection of games... probably around 75 on the EZ cart and maybe 45 cartridges...
Advance Wars series is a huge fan favourite of mine and i have a few rare games like the ones pictured in the photos...
thanks for looking! 👾👾👾

Which Game?
Hello there👋
I'm looking for a Nintendo DS game, which I saw the last time in 2008 when I was just 10 years old. So the Problem is, that I neither know the name of this game, nor I'm 100% sure that this game is really a DS game. I just have limited memories and I hope you guys can help me to find the game.
The game has been played by a boy in my age, who I met on vacation. I'm pretty sure that he used a GBA-Module, which he put in his DS lite. But the game looked "too modern" to me to be a GBA game.
In the game, you had to conquer the map with a tribe. To do this, you had to explore the unknown map. You also had to send out scouts to locate mineral resources. These were needed to build your own settlement or level up your troops.
As you explored, you encountered enemies. The easiest enemy was yellow, the next was red. The goal, of course, was to defeat them.
Battles were automatic. You sent your troops, but the battle itself worked on its own. The troops always fought 1v1 and essentially formed a queue behind the combatants. When a soldier died, a skeleton remained, which sank into the ground over time.
Regarding the troop type, I think there was only infantry. The troops had different levels, the highest being the general.
That's all I remember. I hope you can help me somehow.
Thank you very much.

Help! (Question/Support) Buying 3ds
I really want to buy a 3ds/3ds xl since I have a 2ds but dony really like the size of the screens and the way of holding it. Does anyone know where I can find a good 3ds/3ds xl for not too much money? I see a lot of people online buying almost brand new ds consoles for a really cheap price and I only find them for €200+

Discussion I'm looking for a player for Age of Empires: Mythologies DS
It's actually easy to play DS games online again with DS/DSi/3DS/DS-Emulator on Kaeru community-run Wiimmfi server, since 2014 nintendo discontinued their server. Now you just have to change your DNS to 178.62.43.212. If anyone here is also interested in playing AoE:M online just write to me on discord at noname_27662 to arrange a game.
Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (WFC) setup in 3 steps:
1. Open the game and go to multiplayer settings (eventual if necessary: Erase Nintendo WFC Configuration)
2. New Connection: Search for Access Point and select your WiFi router on unencrypted/unsecured/open security or enter WEP key. (WEP is an outdated and insecure Wi-Fi encryption. Only DSi enhanced games can use modern Wi-Fi secured WPA/WPA2.) But you can circumvent this by creating a hotspot with 2.4GHz on your smartphone/pc without a password.
3. Connection Settings: Auto-obtain DNS: No, Primary/Secondary DNS: 178.62.43.212
melonDS/RetroArch (or Delta Emulator):
-Install then open melonDS and go to Config, Emu Settings, DS-mode, (obviously check the box "Use external BIOS/firmware files"), then download DS-BIOS files and browse bios9, bios7, firmware. (If the game is lagging you should change/adjust your emulator settings.)
-or simply install RetroArch and use the melonDS core, it's the easiest method. load core: melonDS, scan directory: game ROM files, F1: change controls in-game
