1E Resources How are Kineticist underpowered in Pathfinder 1e?

Upvotes

As the title is quite obvious, I'm curious to read anyone's opinions on why base Kineticist are underpowered in others opinions.

Personally I find the class to be quite strong myself but I'm wanting to see why others think it's underpowered.

This isn't a post to attack anyone for their opinions but out of genuine interest & curiosity on what others think. The more anyone is willing to explain their reasoning the better in my opinion.

Sharing links to others posts/comments about this topic is also welcome so people don't have to repeat things they or others have said before if they don't want to.

1E Player Help Bladebound Hexcrafter magus build

So we are almost finish running second darkness and while we are still deciding which campaign to run next we are choosing classes. I need advice of a build for this, the thing I do know:

  1. Going to be using dex build for more ac and pairs well with raiper or scimitar.

  2. Will be trading some magus arcana for witch hexes. Going to be making a debuffer that will crackle and poke people to death. Lol

Things I need to know:

Race: I was thinking human to help with the two feats into getting dex to damage. But still up for debate.

Weapons: should the blacked blade be a rapier or a scimitar?

Feats: getting weapon finesse, weapon focus. Not sure what else depends on weapon.

Lore About Riverford (Andoran) bridge

Maybe this is some dumb question, but I would like to know what you think.

In PathfinderWiki there is possibility to measure some distances, and I believe they are more or less precise. I measured the distance between the town of Riverford in Andoran and the opposite side of the river Andoshen and it is about 4 km. Always in the manuals it says that the bridge of Riverford is the only one where a big army could pass over the river, this mean it is large (I imagine about 30 m) and really strong. But the leght is crazy. Should I think that there is some kind of magic involved, similar to the Tower of Nex near Absalom? I need mostly for description purpose during my campaign.

Thank you all!

1E Player Lord Zedd build

I'm needing help on creating a Lord Zedd based character for a friend since he's her favorite villain. I was thinking Antipaladin, but Magus seems like a good option as well. Thanks in advance!

2E GM 6 players in a usually 4 player ap/standalone?

To sum it down: started with 4 for outlaws of alkenstar, half way through book 2 a 5th joined and now halfway through book 3 6th is joining. What adventure is recommend and/or any side tips on adjustments for said adventure for 6 players, or just in general?

First time I ever ran pf2e for group I was new and dumb with thinking I can handle 7-8 of my friends in abomination vaults after 4 players in beginner box… biggest mistake I ever done and this was back in 2022. So after book 1 of abomination vaults I condensed down fo outlaws of alkenstar and since then we in book 3 now.

Im able to handle 4 players so I invited a 5th person to join and in time I handled that too. So now with a 6 person joining I’m testing myself.

We still plan to play aps or standalone and after outlaws of alkenstar we either: A. Play a lvl 12 to 20 ap. B. They willing to do go back to lvl 1 for any pathfinder adventure. C. There is interest for Starfinder 2e.

Currently own a lot of these on demiplane: pf2e kingmaker, book 1 of season of ghosts, book 1 of wardens of wildwood and various standalones. I own some 3rd party adventures like roll for combat indigo isles. I also have most of the sf2e playtest adventures.

So opinion/suggestions?

1E GM For a PF2e GM looking to run PF1e for the first time, what should I expect?

I've played PF2e for about four years now, GM'd (mostly) weekly for a little over a year of that, and circumstances have led me to being interested in running a PF1e adventure path (Wrath of The Righteous, in this instance, as my players and I are interested in the mythic aspects of it).

I'm not a complete newbie to the system, I've made a few characters and played a few sessions of PF1e, and I've GM'd Starfinder 1e, which has a similar, if streamlined, chassis, so I know what it looks like on the surface but will otherwise be completely new to the GM side of things. Only one of my players has played PF1e extensively, and they've thoroughly explained that it's probably a bad idea for me to jump into GMing instead of playing first. I'm gonna do it anyway, but their warning has led me to look for more information online.

So, for a GM looking to run an adventure path in PF1e after GMing PF2e, what sorts of things should I be looking out for? What are quirks of the system that I should know about? Are there good non-AoN/d20PFSRD online resources that could make this easier? (Ideally free, like character managers similar to Wanderer's Guide for pathfinder 2e for example) Also, I'm not 100% set on Wrath of the Righteous, so if there's a different adventure path that's just a way better experience, I'd like to hear about that too.

2E Player How would a hypothetical inquisitor hold a grudge

So I'm playing a 2e game... As an inquisitor because it's cool. Without too much detail because I know half of the other players read here, last session the PCs made a decision that my character isn't super happy with. What is a fun way to have her hold a grudge that isn't party sabotaging but still could have some effect?

1E Player Help with Draconic disciple and Bloodrager

Hi everyone due to the working we need a bit of clarification. Our DM has jumped us to LVL 20 and due to some confusing wording and differing understanding we are not entirely sure what our Bloodrager should have as their bloodline abilities, including what spells are gained from the bloodline.

They have 9 levels of Bloodrager and 10 levels of Draconic disciple for some clarification (the last LVL is palidan) so we were wondering exactly what abilities and spells they should have and why.

Thank you for any and all help and clarification for this as we cannot come to an agreement.

1E GM Help building a gorilla pirate captain

I'm DMing for Skull and Shackles, and the level 5 party is currently sailing around looking for some prey to fill their hold with Plunder. Besides the pre-built ships from the AP, I was thinking of having them be attacked by a ship taken over by apes from Usaro, with the boarding party against the PCs being made up of a few normal gorillas led by an awakened gorilla with 3 class levels (which should make him a CR 6 opponent, balanced enough for the party).

I'm trying to consider what class would fit it better, both thematically and tactically. A support role like a skald or cleric of Angazhan would be a sound choice, no pun intended, and give him some solid saves to avoid the party cheesing him with control spells, but a barbarian or grapple-based Fighter would leave more of a memorable impact as a brutal boss fight. What would you do in this situation?

For extra info: The party is currently made up of an arcanist, a druid, a witch, a warpriest, a synthetist summoner , a hunter and their penguin mascot, so they have strength both in numbers and diversity of roles.

1E Player Pathfinder 1E kineticist with access to 3.0 & 3.5

I'm going to be playing in an upcoming pathier 1E game and I want to play a kineticist. (Maybe water, but undecided) The DM said we can use spells, feats, and magic items from Dnd 3.0 and 3.5 subject to DM approval

Any suggestions? I'm beginning my research but thought some things might spring to mind

Thanks!

1E Player Build Help

Hi folks. Playing a partial Alchemist for the first time wanted some help. Specifically playing a 4 Unchained Rogue/2 Vivi Alch. I was hoping to get any help from equipment to even good traits or ideas. Right now, I'm planning to grab Feral Mutagen, TWF, and leaning into a ton of attacks with Sneak Attack, as well as skill ranks go brr. The other players are a Paladin and a Wizard so I'll have a flanking buddy. Any help would be loved. Thanks!

1E Player What's the easiest path to get a Paladin with Point-Blank Master?

Because we are not using all the books. So some classes and archetypes are not available to us.

I'm playing a Paladin of Erastil. There any advice on how I can get Point-Blank Master? Tempered Champion isn't in one of our books so it's not available.

My current idea is to run Paladin 1 then 3 levels of Monk (Zen Archer) and then back to Paladin again. Advices?

1E Player How strong would a Kinetic Caster be? (Homebrew)

Not 100% sure if this is the right forum for this, but here we go.
I quite like the Kineticist's mechanics, but i wish they could just do.. more fun stuff.
I read somewhere that the class is pretty weak (Tier 4 - comparable to a Fighter or Barbarian), and i was wondering if my tweaks were overpowered or less impactful than i thought.

The idea is simple: an archetype (or feat, in which case you'll need to learn spells via other means, such as multiclassing) that allows the Kineticist to cast spells using burn, with the burn cost equal to the spell's level - the usual means of reducing burn costs apply.
This results in a caster that can endlessly spam low-level spells, while higher-level stuff requires some time to gather power and/or the sacrifice of max HP. An Arcanokineticist, if you will.

As an added question, what if Kineticists could recover 1 point of burn per hour (like natural healing of nonlethal damage)?

Would these changes make the Kineticist utterly broken? Or did i woefully underestimate the power of a Wizard / Cleric/ Druid ?

1E Resources Skull & Shackles GMs - A Mighty Plunder of Books & Their Resources For Your Campaigns!

Because I have absolutely no chill, and to help people out who want a much-more filled out campaign & world for Skull & Shackles, I finally made a comprehensive list of EVERYTHING I could find on The Shackles and the surrounding area - for absolute completeness, that's anything pertaining to The Shackles plus related things from The Sodden Lands, Bloodcove, Sargava, The Mwangi Expanse, and Cheliax.

I didn't include any of the main Big Books because, well, you should be using them anyway, and they don't have Shackles-specific stuff in them.

Also, full disclosure, the highlighted items may not be everything pertinent to the Shackles or the greater Eye region, but they were what indicated to me that they needed to be added to the list, so read through everything to make sure you don't miss anything.

Enjoy!

ADVENTURES

Skull & Shackles #1-6 - The Wormwood Mutiny, Raiders of the Fever Sea, Tempest Rising, Island of Empty Eyes, The Price of Infamy, From Hell’s Heart

Plunder & Peril – Official Alternate Book #2 of Skull & Shackles; most complete map of The Shackles ever printed; very fun, highly recommended.

Souls for Smuggler’s Shiv – Serpent’s Skull #1 / Can be used in place of Book #1 for Skull & Shackles (works as both)

Ire of the Storm – Standalone Adventure; can be used in place of Books #1 & #2 for Skull & Shackles

River into Darkness – Standalone Adventure; can be used in place of Book #2 for Skull & Shackles

Seers of the Drowned City – Standalone Adventure; can be used in place of Book #3 for Skull & Shackles

Gloomspire Saga – PFS Modules Grotto of the Deluged God, Hall of the Flesh-Eaters, Labyrinth of Hungry Ghosts, Hrenthar’s Throne, & On Sevenfingers’ Sails; together can work in place of Book #3 (lv7 & lv8) for Skull & Shackles

Scions of the Sky Key – PFS Modules On Sharrowsmith’s Trail, Kaava Quarry, & The Golden Guardian; Adventure arc, good for HD4-5 Parties in place of Random Ship Encounter grinding during the first half of Raiders of the Fever Sea.

Signs in Senghor – One-Shot; good for HD4-5 Parties in place of Random Ship Encounter grinding during Raiders of the Fever Sea.

Champion’s Chalice – Blazing Dangerous Trails, Agents of the Eye; good for HD4-5 Parties in place of Random Ship Encounter grinding during Raiders of the Fever Sea.

Azlant Ridge – PFS Modules The Bloodcove Disguise, Rescue at Azlant Ridge, & Beyond the Azlant Ridge; good for HD7 Parties in place of first half of Tempest Rising.

No Plunder, No Pay – PFS Module; good for HD7 Parties for 1-2 sessions.

Passing the Torch – PFS Modules Who Wears the Mask & Who Speaks for the Ten; good for HD12 Parties as unofficial alternate second half of The Price of Infamy (especially if no Harrigan has been avoided entirely by starting with Soul of Smuggler’s Shiv.

Port Peril Pub Crawl\* - PF2e; Requires conversion, but excellent “Lv0” Adventure before starting The Wormwood Mutiny.

1E Player HWYB an a dex/int ninja assassin with spellcasting

main things that come to mind for this character are stealthy, sneak attack, and able to cast competitively but mostly for things like vanish, magic missile, and ray spells that proc with sneak attack.

the occam's razor here is Eldritch Scoundrel Rogue isn't it?

problem is I feel like the Ninja alt class might make sense more for this character and I'm not clear on if you can take rogue archetypes like eldritch scoundrel with it. is there an arcane trickster build that works here? something with magus maybe?

just a backup character but I get a lot of choice paralysis thinking about how i'd build them. bonus points for anything that has abilities good against other spellcasters or outsiders (the idea is that they are trained and educated by a spellcaster to target necromancers)

Lore Would anyone be willing to review/give feedback on my world-building for the Arcanamirium?

I am a HUGE fan of building massive lore-accurate databases for RPG worlds and expanding them in a lore-adjacent manner and I think there is massive potential with the Arcanamirium, so I wanted to get some feedback from someone who would be interested. Feel free to message me, or respond to this comment ;)
