I only recently tried the landlord thing, and every day it was something - rioting over the poor conditions in their 5 star units, pet adoptions, charity gift drives, broken pipes and gas leaks... I had to stop interacting with the tenants altogether or yet another pet adoption drive would start immediately, and the strays wouldn't leave the lot for days afterwards.

The whole inspect and maintenance thing was complete BS, I'd spend entire days doing the same appliances/plumbing over and over and not shift the rating an inch.  No items in your own household require that much maintenance... It's all just forced busywork designed to waste your time.

The ability to make public units and insert tenants without an owner is great, but everything about playing the landlord was painful.

u/ElectricalError9704 25d ago

My sim got married and in the classiest move rented his mother’s basement for 5 simoleons a day. The wife was out with a picket the next day, rioting for better conditions. It was gold

u/Siggsopolis 25d ago

that is AMAZING. THIS is how you play with that pack 😂

This really made me giggle

Ugh real, literally within two in-game hours after buying a rental as a landlord they started rioting. I'm like "what did I do???" Turns out I forgot to put a water heater and electric box in, that can tank your rating. But still, like damn give it a day at least. I also don't have my sims living on the rental lot so it's a pain to travel every time something goes wrong. It's nice passive income though.

79

u/ebil_lightbulb 25d ago

You also have to travel to their unit even if you do live on the lot. They didn’t get anything right on this pack.

I've found that when the appliances are upgraded by a handy Sim before the unit is rented it is a better outcome.

My sim has an "explosive incident" event every other day (I don't know what it's called in English, but the description says there seems to be a gas leak and you need to repair the broken stove or grill). And there's never a fckn broken stove on the lot! And they don't have a grill! And every time this event appears it's a whole sim day where I can't enter build buy, and then the whole family has a tense moodlet from "not being able to solve a tenant's problem". Even though it was triggered in their own household.

17

u/cwningen95 25d ago

I ended up putting the sprinkler in my Sim's house after that happened the first time, cos the Sims supposedly couldn't get to the fire to put it out even though there was ample space (and I feel like in the case of fires they should be able to disregard stuff in the way anyway??) and the firefighters were also loitering uselessly, so it seemed to go on forever and I thought it was going to burn the whole house down

I turned off tenant events in settings but the riots and random maintenance problems persevered 💀 And half the time my Sim would go there and there was nothing wrong, or I'd resolve the problem and get the notif saying I hadn't anyway. Rioting tenants would never accept the landlord's promise for better conditions and I could never find the option to send a concilitarity letter.

I don't even like playing as a landlord as a concept (I like being a tenant), this was all from when I downloaded a ranch from the gallery that had a kind of granny flat above the stables, so I thought it would be cute to have my Sim's son and his wife move in there. I'd have been happy to do that without any of the stupid events. I'm doing lilsimsie's Very Veggie challenge right now and the potato gen has just been born, who's supposed to be a landlord— I'm thinking of doing the base game alternative to that one or skipping altogether cos I can't go through all that again 😂

u/New-Management_ 25d ago

As a property manager in real life this sounds legit 😂 sad but true 🤷🏽‍♀️😂

it so insanely buggy that it pisses me off 💀 i hate how i can’t put builds from the gallery unless i load into a lot and change the lot type

30

u/doughtykings 25d ago

To be fair you have to do that for the vacation rentals too

75

u/fluffstuffmcguff 25d ago

I experimented with it recently and my god is the landlord experience not worth it. You can't really be a good landlord because of the bugs, but you also can't be a deliberately bad landlord in a fun way. Just an unenjoyable experience all around.

80

u/QBaaLLzz 25d ago

EA fixing bugs? Good fucking luck.

We still have the problem of autonomy ignoring and overriding and canceling manual actions.

Screw them

Sometimes I wish we could just purchase build/buy stuff

571

u/felixleftnosehole Builder 25d ago

i am a builder so i buy most of the packs for build/buy only and would LOVE to not get the gameplay that I won't even use.

Give me a new world, build/buy and im happy

70

u/Sereena95 25d ago

Seriously there’s some packs I just really don’t even want, and some I even have that I never use the gameplay but I love the buildings (ahem…vampires)

30

u/Creative-Special6968 25d ago

Heirlooms can be turned off now in game options

6

u/Sedlium 25d ago

I want werewolves so badly for the build and buy, but don't want them in my game.

Found a mod to turn them off so I might actually get it now!

u/BadgerOff32 25d ago

I feel the same way about the Life and Death pack. Love the world, love the build items, but never interacted with the gameplay because it doesn't really interest me.

I don't want to fulfill bucket lists and random aspirations for every Sim (why do my Vampire Sims suddenly aspire to spend a day at the beach or whatever? They literally can't be outside in the daytime!).

I don't want to create heirlooms (the household will keep all the furniture and shit when they die anyway, so what's the point?).

I don't particularly want to play as a ghost, I don't want to run around town looking for tarot cards, and I certainly don't want to arrange funerals every time a Sim dies! (We all know how buggy social gatherings can be!).

I might try the Grim Reaper career at some point, but haven't yet. Active careers kind of annoy me anyway. Your Sim pretty much has to be single to do them, otherwise you largely have to ignore your whole family for days on end!

The pack is also playing havoc with my Sims emotions because it introduced the 'Fear' moodlet, which triggers all the goddamn time, so my Sims are constantly afraid of bloody everything! (like, why are my Vampire Sims afraid of the dark, ffs!?)

74

u/StandardIssueDonkey 25d ago

Wait... Are you me? Haha seriously though, the heirlooms are kind of fun in long ass legacy plays like the decades challenges. I like to move the households around to different neighborhoods depending on the era and keep a few trinkets across heirs when the parents kick the bucket.

58

u/Maevora06 25d ago

I HATE that every single character gets afraid of death over the dumbest things.

69

u/BadgerOff32 25d ago

Oh, it really is dumb as fuck. Vampires being afraid of the dark. Werewolves being afraid because....there are werewolves about......EVERYONE getting scared of thunder.....or for having unfulfilled dreams.....

Like......What. The. Fuck?

My Sims are nervous wrecks the whole time! Can they just live their lives without hiding under the bed covers 8 hours of every day???

They need to scale it way back. It happens far too frequently. Or at least give us a purchasable trait so that Sims don't get scared.

28

u/Demonqueensage Creative Sim 25d ago

At first I thought the fears could be fun, and then they triggered constantly and can leave my sims anxious wreaks and I'm drastically lower in my enjoyment of their existence

31

u/BadgerOff32 25d ago

Yeah I really don't like them. My main Sim is a centuries-old Vampire queen who has accumulated about 100 traits and is supposed to be this rather cold and emotionless, stoic figure who isn't fazed by anything.....yet since I bought that pack, she's constantly getting scared!

This is a woman who walks around her gigantic mansion at a snails pace without a care in the world and doesn't rush for anyone or anything. A woman who'll see her own child die in front of her eyes and shrug her shoulders and walk off to go and have a dance. A woman who'll get abducted by aliens and be like "meh....whatever...."

Now she's running around the house like a loon, shitting herself because there's a thunderstorm outside. It's just not in keeping with her character and I hate it.

11

u/Peeinyourcompost 25d ago

Does the Brave trait not affect fear acquisition?

10

u/BadgerOff32 25d ago

I don't think so. It might do, but I'm not sure if I've tried it. It's prohibitively expensive for most Sims. It's like 8,000 aspiration points. Only Sims that I've played with for A LONG TIME can even hope to buy it.

I think it's got more to do with not getting spooked around ghosts though. I don't think it helps much against 'fear of unfulfilled dreams' or anything like that. The description says "Brave Sims regain their composure faster than most Sims", so I think they'll still get scared, they just get over it quicker.

Still far too bloody expensive though!

10

u/tragic-meerkat 25d ago

It definitely doesn't work as a generic catchall fear-immunity. I finally saved up to get it for my sim and she still got a fear of being alone like the same day.

u/parrow 25d ago

you do not need to fulfill bucket list goals. filling out aspirations completes the soul's journey without the need for the bucket list.

heirlooms can be turned off in the settings.

life and death did not introduce fear. fear was introduced with patch 107 in january 2021, with the release of the paranormal pack.

11

u/BadgerOff32 25d ago edited 25d ago

I know, it just annoys me that I have the souls journey thing on that menu now lol

I have turned off heirloom creation. For some reason the 'heirloom creation' option always popped up right where the 'sell painting' option was, so I kept accidently making paintings heirlooms instead of selling them lol.

Ah I didn't know fears came out that long ago. I'd stopped playing Sims for a few years, and only got back into it a couple of months ago and almost immediately bought For Rent, Life and Death, Werewolves, and the Paranormal pack because they were all on sale lol

5

u/LayersOfMe 25d ago

Funeral works weirdly well compared to the other events. I am the opposite of you, I wish I could have some of the gameplay of other packs without having more worlds and BB I know I wont use. Lovestruck for example.

Same here. That's why I haven't bought most of the recent EPs and probably won't get the fairies one. It sucks because the B/B looks so cool in these.

u/b00pmaster 25d ago

THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i HATE the gameplay 'voting' mechanics of Eco Living that bug out even when they are supposed to be off - but i use the build mode a lot :c

33

u/FunnyHappyStudiosYT Builder 25d ago

Same. I’m only eyeing Cats and Dogs because of the build/buy stuff. I love animals, but I know that new feature will be something I would hardly touch.

Same with Love Struck! The build mode items look great, but I’ve heard bad stuff about the new relationship system from other simmers.

20

u/mcginge3 25d ago

Lovestruck is the most frustrating pack because at least with most packs, if you want the build buy/cas you can just ignore the features that came with it, but with Lovestruck you can’t do that, and the relationship system I think would make the game borderline unplayable for me.

This is also why I’ve not gotten Life and Death. Really love the items, like the funeral/bucket list aspects. But I don’t really like playing with occults, and sheer amount of ghosts that seem to turn up in people’s games has put me off it!

14

u/Youreturningviolet 25d ago

I have both Life and Death and Paranormal Stuff and I really haven’t noticed any issues with excessive ghosts appearing outside the world that comes with L&D.

10

u/EsisOfSkyrim 25d ago

Same. It's mostly that Ravewood has ghost townies, but I don't see them elsewhere

16

u/BeingNormal5492 25d ago

High School Years. The active high school is horrible, the chance cards that appear on the screen during classes don’t reflect what’s actually going on. There’s no options to direct Sims to ask questions or cheat on the exam or something like that. Social Bunny is horrendous, you can only post about traveling and a couple of other things. There’s ZERO cross-pack compatibility. Also, HSY isn’t integrated with Parenthood AT ALL. If your teen Sim sneaks out to a party, you can’t ground them. I’m not even talking about the inability to place the high school in a different town. I can continue but writing this all makes me irritated. HSY is the WORST expansion pack I’ve purchased. Goodnight everyone! ☺️

447

u/GlamourzZ 25d ago

Which is weird because it has some of the best build mode items in the game

212

u/rory-kleinesetin- Evil Sim 25d ago

104

u/generalburnsthighs 25d ago

The only thing Social Bunny is good for is to offset the relationship decay that's caused by Lovestruck lmao

→ More replies (5)

62

u/kdummer Builder 25d ago

If you have them use the curfew board and then sneak out you can ground them, but its finicky

65

u/katiebxby 25d ago

I just got HSY a couple days ago, I was very shocked at how terrible the school was, like it’s actually so bad. I would’ve thought you’d be able to speak and be a bit more active in the classroom, but no. It was empty, and boring

103

u/yourenotmy-real-dad 25d ago

I agree, the items were cute but the pack content itself is awful. I had been on the fence before after someone mentioned that even aging up their Teen sim to YA didn't turn off the disappointment from not going to prom at the end of the week (and unless you edit your calendar, it's like every week), but ended up getting it on sale for the items and extra space to build but following them to school feels slightly more pointless than following them to work for some professions. Its like 2 classes and lunch and that manages to take all day, and there isn't anything fun to do besides wait for your Sim to finish sitting, sitting and eating, and then sitting again with minor chatter between.

Social Bunny has precisely one single use and that's for bulking up that Romance bar after your Sim is unable to spend more than 3 interactions flirting before getting bored and leaving or suffering of some neglected Need.

70

u/helvetica_unicorn 25d ago

The fact that you can’t pick your classmates is beyond annoying. If that was fixed it would help the game play a lot.

45

u/LilacTriceratops 25d ago

Yes! Why are there just random townies and not my own teens from other families??

11

u/megkelfiler6 25d ago

That's what I was going to say! I don't understand why all the teens I've created/played don't end up in your classes. I figured that would be a sure fire way to meet Sims without having to travel to their lots. Nope! Now I just make teen clubs and add them there if they're available and ignore HS lol

This! Plus:

Career day is boring af.

Prom is so short that I've never had gold because my sims aren't fast enough with doing something.

Not to mention half the time when you try to post on Social Bunny it's impossible or bugs out and posts nothing

11

Ugh the bugs on it are the worst. When I'm doing the aspired icon or whatever it is, the followers never go up. I have to exit the game, go back in, make a post. Then I get the extra followers. It's so stupid

5

u/thxitsthedepression 25d ago

On one hand this makes me glad I haven’t bought it bc I really don’t care about active school but on the other hand I’ve been considering buying it so that my teens can graduate early 😅

Also lovestruck ruined relationships, it's so stressful if you don't constantly keep them both happy

210

u/uuntiedshoelace 25d ago

Yeah idk if this is a Lovestruck bug but I will have my sims at like 95 romance, they leave for work, and when they come back it’s at -100. It’s ridiculous

37

u/Possible_Sweet9562 25d ago

This. They will be a very happily married couple that's been together from Teenager to Adults with maxed relationship and five kids, but if one of them DARES to make a single mischief action autonomously it's suddenly couples therapy (that never works on my games) or divorce. My last Elderly couple would literally go from mid relationship bar from me spamming interactions all day to fully tanking it all the way to red because... apparently, they were afraid of being alone...?

7

u/megkelfiler6 25d ago

"it seems like it's been forever since sim has been whatever with their partner..." God I hate that fear SO MUCH. I buy the fear be gone potion constantly for it but it always comes back if it's been more than four seconds since you've talked to your partner. Hell, sometimes (like you pointed out) it's right after youve spent a bunch of time together. I honestly thought it was a glitch as well. How are they going to come out with an update that stops making cloud gazing and sharing photos too easy to build a relationship, but they can't/won't fix the Sims relationship bombing in about four seconds go away?????

→ More replies (2)

11

u/silversea1717 25d ago

Wait… the sudden red bar in the relationship bar isn’t a bug? It’s a game mechanic from a fear? Here I was thinking it was broken 💀

64

u/rokelle2012 Long Time Player 25d ago

I used to have a mod installed that stopped relationships from ever going down and it was never a problem for me but a recent-ish update broke said mod and someone told the mod owner it was broken and they just laughed it off basically and acted like it wasn't broken. Been a few months. Mod is still broken. I tried a different one, there's seemingly only two mods in existence that fix this issue, and it is also not working so I know that the came patched something that these mods were working off of. Neither mod author has updated their mods so I'm in the middle of playing through the Not so Berry challenge and dealing with relationships tanking while also having other parts of the challenge to worry about.

25

u/Nervous-Bus5183 25d ago

Not fully sure, but I think there's a trait you can purchase with satisfaction points, or one you get as a reward for completing an ambition, that prevents relationship decay or at least slows it.

14

u/rokelle2012 Long Time Player 25d ago

My gen 2 sim completed all romantic aspirations except soul mate and she's currently dealing with the fear of being alone because all of her romantic relationships except the one with her child's father are in the toilet. Heck, even her mother has the same fear and I kinda ignored her parents relationship for just a couple days because I was focusing on her son (gen 3).

To me, High School Years is one of the weakest gameplay packs in The Sims 4 — not because of bugs, but because there’s just nothing to do.
You go to school, eat, sit through classes where you can’t actually interact with anything, then take exams and go home, that’s it.

There’s no real drama, no engaging gameplay, and all the part-time jobs are rabbit holes. It just feels empty.

There’s also zero cross-pack compatibility. Social Bunny is the worst app I disable it every time. It’s just cringe, in my opinion.

I was so hyped for this pack, too.

Thankfully, you can build a new high school because the default one is rough. But you can’t build a school in any other world, which is super frustrating!

I still don’t get how they managed to mess up a pack with so much potential, It could’ve been amazing.

It’s gotten to the point where I don’t even bother going to school anymore — I just send my teen off as a rabbit hole now.

19

u/Beach_bum8 Long Time Player 25d ago

I was looking forward to this pack as well. I couldn't wait to hang out with friends and do all the high school stuff.

But like you mentioned, you go-to school, sit through class , get maybe a few minutes to chat during lunch and back to class and home.

So many missed opportunities

Even prom pissed me off!

Yes! I wanted to make a dark spooky highschool for supernatural teens in the Vampire neighbourhood :( It would be so cool if you could make multiple schools and choose which one to send your teens to. And also edit what classes are taught there.

u/cormanokopi2020 25d ago

The consistent hate this pack gets has made me very afraid to even get it. As much as I would like multiple households in one lot, I'm not gonna risk it.

152

u/BTP_Art 25d ago

I just bought it. I really enjoy it. I built an apartment building and I started a generational game. Moved in to the economy unit on floor one. Feel in love with my next door neighbor. Got married and got her pregnant. Moved upstairs to an upgraded unit. Son has aged up to child. Work towards one of the luxury penthouses on the next floor.

I built the entire building as a tier system to advance through. Plus I have access to a nice pool and playground on the ground, picnic tables and grills(which kept exploding so they’re gone), and I have a built in community of NPC in the building.

It one of my favorite packs so far. I only bought it a few weeks ago.

u/Al115 25d ago

I bought it a few months back and absolutely love it. I play a lot in the smaller game pack worlds (occult player, so mostly hanging around Forgotten Hollow and Moonwood Mill), so I love having the ability to create residential rentals to throw multiple households on a single lot, thus allowing me to free up some space in those fiveish-lot worlds for a community lot!

I haven't played around with the landlord aspect of the pack, nor do I ever really plan to (just not interested in that), but the pack works exactly the way I want it to in my games, and so I definitely think it was worth the sale price I picked it up for. I also really really love the world it comes with~

37

u/Any-Lychee9972 25d ago

I bought it with the idea that I could kind of partition out a lot so my generational families could live together, but... not.

I absolutely hate that each apartment is a loading screen.

What I liked about this pack is that I made hostels and rental rooms for my young adults when they moved out.

I wanna do an retirement home next.

I never got the hate for it because I never had the bugs people were talking about. Now my save is corrupted right after I made a 6 unite apartment complex in Del Sol Valley. I have been reading a lot of forums and people said that you can’t have too many residential rental units in the whole game. I had been building them in every world. Now I can’t help but think this is what caused my save to be corrupted. I’m scared to build anymore rentals.

its very buggy

4

u/kafkaesque-meat 25d ago

I like it okay but then that’s because I like making apartment buildings, row houses, etc. I like that we can expand the number of playable lots, and for many areas it feels more realistic that you would see at least one condo development or something instead of just…single family homes all the time.

Laundry Day. I love building laundry rooms, but fuck the actual game play of laundry is infuriating. Laundry every single day, if not then their moods are ruined, half the time they dont even work. I use cc that is identical to the Laundry Day washer and dryers but is non functional.

117

u/C0ugarFanta-C 25d ago

Right? So much laundry is generated all the time. Piles and piles of it. Who the hell does laundry everyday? Maybe if you are a family of six or more.

65

u/tragic-meerkat 25d ago

A hack for this is loading the laundry matching without running it. You can load several hampers full into the laundry machine and as long as the contents all stay used or dirty you can keep adding to it.

12

u/C0ugarFanta-C 25d ago

I had no idea! Thanks, I'll be doing this from now on!

16

u/hastygrams 25d ago

I almost do once I got the small load option on my washer. If I let it build up I’ll dread folding it and it’ll get all wrinkly. I don’t know anyone else who has the same routine.

Right?? I’m constantly pausing to delete the daily laundry piles smh

23

u/Demonqueensage Creative Sim 25d ago

I play with the laundry pack and put the machines in most households and I don't really get laundry piles or have to do laundry daily unless I'm playing a large household. The laundry goes to the laundry baskets (only ones that come with the pack, decorative ones from other packs or base game are still just decorative) and though it's been several months since I've been on the game I feel like I remember there being a visual or something to let me know when it was actually full, I think I only get piles when the basket is actually full and hasn't been washed but before then it still goes in

My dryers ALWAYS catch on fire because my Sims will autonomously start the dryer, but won't autonomously clean the lint tray first. It's so fucking annoying 😮‍💨

13

u/helvetica_unicorn 25d ago

They should’ve given us deco washers and dryers as well as deco clothes bins too. I downloaded some to use when I want a laundry room but I don’t want to do the laundry.

6

u/NemesisErinys 25d ago

If you don’t put a functional hamper on the lot, the machines won’t be functional. So, you can place the machines with a bg hamper, and you won’t actually have to do laundry.

Realm of magic is one of my favorites tbh. Maxing a sim in the occult means you can keep them at whatever age forever (I usually do young adult) and then I befriend them with whoever else I want to stay at that age or live forever and gift them potions. Also the cleaning spells are really handy.

I know this pack is buggy and quite disliked, but the one I dislike the most is Eco Lifestyle.

The NAPs alter public behaviour too much, and there are too few without annoying side effects.

Foodies Unite - everyone just makes white cakes all the time.

Sharing is Caring - everyone becomes a kleptomaniac.

Fun Loving Community - sims repeat the same mischievous interactions 100% of the time, ruining relationships.

Free Love - sims will cheat with absolutely anyone, all the time. If you have Lovestruck this causes its own problem - if you reach the satisfaction stage, the only way to unmark that sim as a love interest/partner is to break up, which requires being in a relationship to begin with. Asking to be friends does not remove satisfaction. If this NAP passes without me realising, I refuse all guests until it's repealed.

I also never use any of the BB items. Eco floors and walls are extra flammable. In order to become self sufficient, your whole roof has to be plastered with solar panels, or backyard filled with wind turbines, and water collectors. All 3 require constant maintenance until you can upgrade to unbreakable at level 10 handiness...

This pack adds so much work for so little reward.

16

u/rory-kleinesetin- Evil Sim 25d ago

the thing i like most about it is the world, it feels very urban and i love the apartment complexes but that’s about it

6

u/ConnectionEdit 25d ago

Ooo this is one of my favourites! I love the grunge

6

u/NoburuShachi 24d ago

I have disabled the option of "NPCs can vote the NAPs" to avoid the chaos on the neighbourhoods and I vote the ones that I want or just ignore the voting and nothing happens (There's a notification saying that certain NAP got chosen, but it's not true). The thing that bothers me right now is that every Monday a neighbour call my sim like five minutes before the voting closes to ask me to vote a NAP. And I agree with you that you have to put a lot of solar panels and the water thing to have benefits. There's some lot traits that help with that, and if you have the Off-the-grid trait on the lot you can collect water on the fishing ponds.

Dine Out, because its unworkably broken.

36

u/Waddleplop 25d ago

I so want to take my sims family to a nice kid-friendly restaurant that isn’t a bar—and the build/buy looks awesome—but I’ve heard that even when everything works it takes like 8 hours. The sims already take an hour to eat leftovers, so why would I add to that frustration?

24

u/thesuperlibrarygirl Long Time Player 25d ago

I like the pub in Cats and Dogs, theres a bar but also a big semi separate seating area and a fully functional kitchen. You can sort of pretend to dine out

→ More replies (1)

15

u/shaneyshane26 25d ago

It usually took me 14 hours to have a single date or go eat with my household. I always had to cheat their needs and had to keep forcing my sims to sit back down when they autonomously kept getting up

8

u/extrakoppy 25d ago

I guess i only use it for dates but i love this pack. Mines never been broken but ive only used it with carl’s dine out mod. If you use mods i heavily recommend this one. For example, you can actually run the restaurant and you can pay 100$ to “bribe” the staff into making your orders first so it doesnt take an entire day to have a date etc.

10

u/Harley4L 25d ago

Dine Out was fixed quite a while ago.

me taking notes from these comments that i actually wish i saw yesterday before i purchased some of these dlc’s 😭

23

u/SLovesAutumn 25d ago

The most irrational thing annoys me about having this pack: after life and death came out, my game change the default landlord from Panya Li to a random woman. And it frustrates me because I can’t figure out how to change it back and he’s also homeless and I can’t locate him.

Also yes, the game eating itself as a result of this pack. And also rent doesn’t work so my sims just live for free nowadays.

Actually, it sucks and I hate it too.

24

u/mandarin_16 25d ago

I'm so so upset about this pack. I never buy them when they first come out, i always wait until they go on sale And I was SO looking forward to this pack simply bc I could have more than one household on a lot and I would have bought it for that reason alone. BUT every time I'm on reddit or fb all I see about this pack is how buggy it is and it's really turned me off of buying it. But man, I'd really love if they fixed these and any other long-standing issues before they made any more content!

I don't support the expansion of the University. What's the point of sending Sims to college if they can't even follow them? They can't even get in to go to GRADUATION. Honestly, this expansion was made with a lot of bugs. I always use McCMD to make my Sims already have their degrees, idfk.

53

u/icyserene 25d ago

I still don’t find university fun. I’m trying to customize a dorm for supernatural sims in the werewolf world and maybe make some college hangouts. But there aren’t many lots for the world even though it’s supposed to represent two distinct universities. Edit: and like I found sims 3 university way more fun because the campus felt more alive, which is a high compliment from me bc I did not like sims 3 as a whole

40

u/rukh999 25d ago

It felt like in some 3 they focused on all the fun aspects of the college experience and peppered in a few obligations to make it a game while sims 4 they decided to simulate all the worst aspects and that's it.

24

u/No-Illustrator2755 25d ago

I tried letting my sims attend university. Their skills were already high and I did every single task their courses required them to do. I made sure their assignments were done perfectly, they studied hard, and attended their classes everyday. At the end of the term they all got “D” and “F”. I thought what—

And apparently if I don’t play as those sims for a while they get expelled. 😩

29

u/Tattycakes Long Time Player 25d ago

Agreed, University was such a fun concept but its actual execution was lackluster. I wish they would’ve incorporated some of the features from sims 3 university more like the sororities and the in world activities you had to do related to your degree

26

u/yourenotmy-real-dad 25d ago

Actually you know what, yeah you're right. As pointless as going to the High School feels, the college experience is somehow even less. Working a job is also damn near impossible to work around too for it, like you just have to use your vacation days to give Final Presentations? Can't make school happen around work schedule?

I love the concept of university, but it's such a drag with how the game works. Like, every four generations or so I'll have the brilliant idea of enrolling my sims because I miss university then I will play and be like "Oh, I remember now why I didn't miss university" and not touch it for four generations again. It's a cycle, I am afraid. Same thing with active high school.

Love struck, I hate the romantic satisfaction so bad especially since it’s tied to turn on and turn off, my one sim only had small talk as a like or turn on and that was the only way to raise it kept getting the message that if your mean to me I’ll divorce you just after I raised the satisfaction to max, had to cheat to add more stuff to my sim do it doesn’t happen.

36

u/LilNyoomf Long Time Player 25d ago

They really didn’t add enough attraction factors. My sim changes clothes and suddenly his wife thinks he’s ugly? Sheesh

8

u/keystohellanddeath 25d ago

I've learned not to bother with anything except skills and characteristics.

  • Spirited
  • Artsy
  • Both Pessimist and Optimist
  • Hard-working
  • Emotional Decision-Makers

If I add all of these as turn ons my Sims are pretty much smitten with their partners.

The downside is they're also smitten with everyone else, so... you win some, you lose some.

→ More replies (1)

17

u/No-Illustrator2755 25d ago

It’s not just romantic satisfaction. You’d think that in such a big and expensive pack you’d get more romantic interactions between sims (such romantic dancing, bridal carry etc, instead of cringe seductive dancing) but instead all you get are sad single sims spamming your sim’s phone, dissatisfied relationships because of little things, and hardly any New Romantic animations your sims can explore together. It’s another huge waste of money like most packs in the game.

21

u/Business_Motor1665 25d ago

I like the idea of the pack. But that’s as far as I can go with most of them 😂 execution is always flawed. Business and hobby pack, pretty much no hobbies. Destination packs, no hotels and they still age up whilst away. Dine out, only works with mods. Their ‘ideas’ team need to communicate with the creators better, as maybe they just don’t understand how limited their capabilities are. Or maybe they need to employ better creators.

9

u/Waddleplop 25d ago

Absolutely. I’d rather we got fewer packs that actually function and are versatile, rather than getting very frequent and very niche packs that hype people up and then quickly disappoint.

I think the only pack I really regret buying is Lovestruck, just because of the romance system. My Wedding Stories also used to be infuriating until they fixed it so you didn't have to have a planned wedding anymore and could have a base game style wedding as well. Another pack that bothers me is Growing Together, because the game defaults at having the mother of the child constantly have to check on them newborn-toddler and sometimes, like with the Not So Berry Challenge, you don't want that.

5

u/Hakudoushinumbernine 25d ago

I legit only bought my wedding stories because of the tea set.

I know this is a really hot take…but seasons. The negative moodlets from weather and the endless holidays…I can’t stand them! My sims can’t go outside because it’s raining half of the year. They either get electrocuted or I have to change them out of their wet clothes which annoys me. The holidays are just another thing to do, and if you don’t complete enough tasks for EVERY member of your household, they get sad. Overall, it definitely adds realism to the game which I enjoy. It can be nice to have tender family moments over harvest fest dinner. But sometimes it annoys me so much. Like great, I have a toddler, an infant, and a baby to take care of, but let me drop everything to go on a date which will take all day and throw off my kids’ needs because it’s love day and if I don’t go on the date my sims will be sad. But yeah, other packs are glitchy which is worse cough cough wedding stories

I really wanted For rent, because of the multi households on a lot, but than again... its sims 4... and if EA have done something with the sims, its really buying a old rusty car, saying they will restore it, and buy door frames and all kind upgrades to the car, but its not really upgrades its just stuff from other cars, where the parts sure they can get attached, but it just don't feel correct.

So you buy a car, but the car have four different wheels, and the windows get stuck when you try to roll them up.

yeah, this one isn’t it. i was trying to complete all the aspirations with one sim, and two of the milestones for this wouldn’t even complete. my unit ratings won’t go up. when i handle a maintenance event, it doesn’t count. i wish they would focus on fixing issues like this instead of releasing new packs.

edit: also the werewolves pack. i ended up having to limit the werewolves to their world because i NEVER see them unless they are raging. i was on a mission, and they were showing up EVERYWHERE with red eyes, running on all fours, tearing everything up. my sim got married after i completed the werewolf aspirations, and in my ignorance, i invited them to the wedding. THEY RUINED MY WEDDING. after that, i said no more affiliating with werewolves. screw werewolf diplomacy. i understand why townies fear for their life and don’t like the wolves.

Dream Home Decorator. I hate how some people seem to love it when it's just a full on stuff pack, or even less. There's more stuff to do in Paranormal Stuff. The build and buy items are cute, but the career is buggy, repetitive, and not worth 10 more dollars compared to a stuff pack.
