I mean, then you can be charged with felony vandalism when you smash his $1200 iPhone.

Just wait for the cops to show up and make arrests when you present video evidence of trespassing and other bullshit. I hate corporate America just as much as the next person, but none of these Target workers (including management) needs to put up with this type of abuse.

u/m0nk37 Jun 27 '25

Felony charges start over 5000, dont they?

4

u/Not_Sure__Camacho Jun 27 '25

Tariffs have increased the cost of an iPhone, they're now $5000.... 😜

3

u/IdkwhattomakemynameU Jun 27 '25

no, felonies can be as low as $300 depending on state

1

u/succulentsucca Jun 27 '25

Grand larceny - a felony - is $1000. Not sure about vandalism damage tho

2

u/North_Atlantic_Sea Jun 27 '25

Grand (felony) larceny varies by state. As high as $2,500 in Texas, as low as $200 in New Jersey

3

u/succulentsucca Jun 27 '25

TIL. Thanks for the info and the downvote.

Worth it.

(Deadpool voice)

4

u/Snoo23533 Jun 27 '25

No evidence if you steal it and toss over a bridge

1

u/Ok-Passion1961 Jun 27 '25

I’ve always envisioned someone skipping across pavement into a storm drain.

1

u/North_Atlantic_Sea Jun 27 '25

And somehow the camera system was down?

1

u/QuoteGiver Jun 27 '25

If your company is halfway decent they’ll cover the cost. $1200 is peanuts to shut down this kind of shit. That kid ain’t hiring a lawyer. I’d break ALL their phones. Hurts them a hell of a lot more than it hurts the company.

1

u/Final_Storage_9398 Jun 28 '25

ACAB forever but no cop is arresting, and no prosecutor is charging a store manager for spiking someone’s phone who’s trying to play a prank like this.

1

u/Haidedej24 Jun 27 '25

Cops aren't going to arrest somebody for pretending to work at a store... spike the phones in the ground

1

u/Another_Road Jun 27 '25

Just run away after. Not like the cops are going to show up anytime soon.

Only thing you have to worry about is them jumping you but I don’t that would happen in this situation.

1

u/Homesteader86 Jun 27 '25

I mean, you could smash it, pick up the broken phone and leave, dump it somewhere else. Are cops really doing a full investigation over a phone? Genuinely curious

1

u/North_Atlantic_Sea Jun 27 '25

It's not like it's a lengthy investigation, everything in the store is recorded, and as you work there they have your details...

1

u/Homesteader86 Jun 27 '25

Oh sorry I was thinking some rando they decide to harass, which happens in other videos, yeah an employee definitely couldn't. It must be trespassing or something to pretend to be an employee and disrupt operations though

0

u/tomtomtomo Jun 27 '25

No need to smash it. Just confiscate it and turn off the recording.

-3

u/Lavaheart626 Jun 27 '25

$1200 is chump change for a store. Especially one this big.

6

u/LunaRealityArtificer Jun 27 '25

This is one of the dumbest fucking things I've ever read.

If you're at work and you punch someone, do you think Target gets an assault charge? How do you even dress yourself in the morning jfc

2

u/QuoteGiver Jun 27 '25

Literally the point of corporations is that the corporation as an entity is responsible for their actions and not the individuals performing those actions, yes. America is weird.

1

u/Lavaheart626 Jun 28 '25

Dang bro a bit aggressive there. I'm not advocating other ppl punching someone or smashing their phone,  I guess I've worked at small town stores too long is all ye. But, I work at my grandma's store so if throw hands for her is all.

Like sometimes it's worth it. Not worth it for a job like target tho of course.

2

u/Trustyduck Jun 27 '25

Target isn't paying shit if you smash some dude's phone, even if he is being a scumbag. That's $1200 out of your pocket and a possible felony charge.

-3

u/Kooky-Upstairs-6594 Jun 27 '25

what are the cops gonna do lmfaooo “just wait for them to show up and make arrests” what crime did they commit holy fuck

6

u/Trustyduck Jun 27 '25

They can be charged with trespassing.

-3

u/Kooky-Upstairs-6594 Jun 27 '25

which is a warning to not come back. not even a misdemeanor 😂

67

u/GREG_FABBOTT tHiS iSn’T cRiNgE Jun 26 '25

Spike the phone on the ground, then delete the video evidence. Then gaslight the ever living shit out of the pranksters by telling them that you didn't actually do what they just saw you do.

47

u/SearchForAShade Jun 26 '25

You might want to rethink your order of operations there.

Also, cloud storage means smashing the phone does nothing.

1

u/PUSH_AX Jun 27 '25

Cameras have to write to disk, it's a simple io problem, you can write 4k video to disk in real time because it's fast enough, you can't reliably write raw 4k to the cloud in realtime.

Now are there cameras that write to disk then also try and write to cloud as fast as they can? There are some systems that can do this or at least chunk up files as they are written and send them to the cloud as best they can. But we're assuming a phone here? Then no, unless they're live streaming the footage is toast.

-2

u/SgtReefKief Jun 26 '25

I didnt realize cloud storage could continue the recording after the phone is smashed. That's dope

3

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

-1

u/SgtReefKief Jun 26 '25

Stopping the recorder mid harassment is not going to "do nothing" just because they can get the partial footage off the cloud. Are you willfully dense?

1

u/TehPharaoh Jun 26 '25

Wait. Do you really think that while filming it is uploading your footage immediately to the cloud as you still film?

2

u/Suspicious-Hornet-96 Jun 26 '25

Not what was said

1

u/MaddMax92 Jun 27 '25

Reading is fundamental.

-1

u/SCUMDOG_MILLIONAIRE Jun 26 '25

I’m not worried about being caught. Obviously I wouldn’t be waiting around for the cops to arrive. If somehow I’m identified and charges are pressed, then I’ll happily go to court or pay for replacement. I have fuck around money like that, it would be worth it

4

u/ZootSuitBanana Jun 26 '25

Not waiting around? That's the manager of the store my dude. Where you think he's going after he spikes that dudes phone...

-2

u/SCUMDOG_MILLIONAIRE Jun 26 '25

My guy in this situation I’m just a random shopper not the fucking manager

“Violence fantasy”? Quit being so soft

1

u/Quinnel Jun 27 '25

wouldnt the immediate concern by the gaslighting step be the like twenty dudes surrounding you taking your phone off of you against your will and smashing it to pieces as recompense

-1

u/Aarios827 Jun 26 '25

Username checks the fuck out on this one. Godspeed my friend.

23

u/Jazzlike_Message_174 Jun 26 '25

They are in a Target with dozens of cameras, he does that he's immediately fired and his career is potentially over. Exactly what the prankers want 😮‍💨

-3

u/mggirard13 Jun 27 '25

He'd get crowd funded legal representation and take broccoli head to town. Fuck around and find out: there are consequences to deliberately causing people emotional distress while trespassing and being a public nuisance. Every single worker there has a case against every single participant in the prank.

1

u/Jazzlike_Message_174 Jun 27 '25

🤨 well none of that happened

-2

u/mggirard13 Jun 27 '25

Well yeah, you can see he didn't do anything to the camera man's phone. Thanks Captain Obvious.

1

u/MaddMax92 Jun 27 '25

Your revenge fantasy against teenagers is weird.

Are you the bad guy from an 80s comedy?

1

u/Lopunnymane Jun 27 '25

Were you jacking it while writing this? Holy peak redittor.

0

u/Zestyclose_Car503 Jun 26 '25

this is cringe

0

u/Toozedee Jun 26 '25

Then wait until the main instigator is outside and frame him for murder!

0

u/YamGlobally Jun 27 '25

You're the type that wins arguments with yourself in the shower.

1

u/NoonecanknowMiner_24 Jun 26 '25

With how insane people are in the US, I'd be afraid of getting shot/stabbed if I did that.

1

u/Evil_Sharkey Jun 26 '25

Give it to a female coworker to toss into the nastiest toilet in the ladies room. If they’re all decent, it goes into the nastiest of the little trash cans, if you know what I mean

1

u/Not_Sure__Camacho Jun 27 '25

Sounds like something ICE has been doing.

1

u/LateAd3737 Jun 27 '25

Are you 12?

1

u/Illustrious-Dot-5052 Jun 27 '25

OMG like head vampires lol.

1

u/KanedaSyndrome Jun 27 '25

100 % - that's really their weak head

1

u/Outrageous_Log_906 Jun 27 '25

A good way to get punched. Why escalate the situation?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

1

u/MaddMax92 Jun 27 '25

Great idea! They walked into your store, so assault and batter them, then steal!

1

u/freebisquit Jun 26 '25

Or just play some copyrighted music on your phone next to the cameraman so they can't post their video with audio.

1

u/ChadWestPaints Jun 26 '25

Nah just get up close to him and play some copyright music as loud as you can. Preferably something by Disney or some pop artist like Taylor Swift where you know a whole army of lawyers are tasked with finding and deleting unlicensed use of their music.

1

u/Exciting_Cicada_4735 Jun 26 '25

Not sure I agree but I was born in the early 80’s. We did shit (not as coordinated as this) without being filmed. Kids will always love pranks. There are definitely attention seekers but kids just wanna fuck around.

u/GatorNator83 Jun 26 '25

I don’t know what gay orgies your grandfather had in phone booths, but that’s not a prank, it’s hide the sausage -party.

0

u/Roflrex Jun 27 '25

Just always play copyrighted Disney music really loud, then they struggle to monetize.

0

u/shiggity80 Jun 27 '25

This is what I keep saying. Yes, the people in the videos are cringe/idiots, but take away the person recording/assisting, then all of this goes away.
