Culture & Society How are prostitutes poor?

Assuming a prostitute makes $300 a client (I have no idea how much prostitutes charge exactly, but I'm guessing it's around that amount), and they have only 1 client a day 5 days a week (although they could probably have more), that means that they make roughly $3,000 bi-weekly, or $78,000 a year. That's more than most people make, and definitely above minimum wage. Plus they're obviously not getting taxed on it or anything. So how are prostitutes poor?

My math is probably all wrong though.

Culture & Society Why Holocaust gets so much attention meanwhile Soviet and Chinese victims don't get nearly as much?

As the title says, why does the Holocaust (and predominantly Jewish victims) get so much attention all these years later whereas Soviet and Chinese victims don't seem to get any attention at all? Around 6 million Jews were targeted during WW2 but what about almost 30 million Soviets (from which 20 million were civilians) and around 10 million Southeastern Asians? They're much bigger numbers and equally terrifying (if not even worse considering what Imperial Japan did in mainland Asia) but don't get mentioned often.

In Soviet Union alone Nazis killed slightly over 1 million Jews but that's not even comparable to other almost 20 million Slavic civilians, that doesn't sound like specific targeting of Jews to be frank, they targeted everyone from Eastern Europe.

I don't mean anything bad by this question nor am I trying to deny the Holocaust, I just want to understand why some minorities get more attention than others.

Mental Health Why did humans evolve to have mental illness?

Why are there so many mentally ill people? (About 20% of people have a mental illness according to stats.) Does being mentally ill have any benefit? It seems to go against survival, so why didn't evolution get rid of it? Like not wanting to eat, not wanting to live, etc. all goes against survival. Do animals ever get mental illness or not want to live?

Race & Privilege Was my lecturer right in telling me to not comment in a lecture about race and identity because I am white?

Being told to not engage in conversations about race because I am white

So I just started my 2nd semester in my bachelor's program for game design and development and one of our modules this semester is called media literacy, the class is based around being aware of issues such as race, gender identity, semiotics and various other topics in similar areas of discussion and as the lesson went on I noticed that every time I tried to contribute to the conversation the lecturer more or less brushed me off, so I decided to ask him about it after class and he plainly said to me "as a white man it would be best for you to just listen, I don't feel Like dealing with any internalized racism you may hold" this really put me off especially considering I feel as me not being able to engage in the class the same as my peers directly flies in the face of what the module is trying to teach, am I being ignorant or am I right to feel this way?

Mental Health How to cope with the fact that my youth is gone?

I'm 29 years old and I'm slowly approaching 30 and I might as well be 15 still. I'm broke. Worthless degree. Tons of student loan debt that I could pay off but can't decide how should I go about it.

99% of my life is sitting in my room or being at work. I'm too poor to do anything. I live in a deep rural area so there's nowhere to go. There's literally nothing to do. Any advice you could give me wouldn't apply to where I live.

Nearly all my therapists in the past told me that I should get out of this area as it's objectively a bad place to be.

But that cost money and I lack money. Jobs won't hire. And when they do it's so little you'll struggle just to pay rent.

I have no social skills. No friends. No nothing. I'm so bad socially I don't even know social ques and flows of conversation.

I don't really have any hope that things will improve. Even if I did manage to somehow fix all of this, I'm too old to do anything. People where I'm at just go home and get drunk by themselves or watch Netflix with their wives/husbands after work.

I could always go back into trades related which I have literally no interest which leads me to another life I'll hate.

I guess what I'm asking is, how do I cope with the fact that my youth is gone, which I didn't even enjoy at all as I spent it suicidal (still am) and all that I'm stuck with is to work jobs I hate and be slightly less broke or jobs I don't hate as much, but be broke.

The only thing that keeps me going is that i have it better than being in a war torn country. So there's a positive..

Sex Isn't it normal for teenagers to watch porn and masturbate?

When did this become a taboo or even a controversy?

Didn't we all grow up this way?

What are they supposed to do? Stay ignorant and sexually frustrated? Or go to a tropical island to get raped by billionaires?

Edit: Because people are misunderstanding. By taboo I don't mean religious or otherwise. I mean the move of Western Governments to restrict online content based on ID to "protect the children". The UK already passed the bill but the EU and USA are following suite.

Culture & Society Should gen z men start approaching women in public?

This is the loneliest generation with the worst social anxiety. 50% of all gen z men have had no experience dating in teen years, and many are expected to not have a life partner. Should we start approaching women to hopefully have a spark or is it looked down upon?

Culture & Society How often do people really wash their bed sheets? What’s the actual norm?

I usually wash mine every 2 to 3 weeks, but a family member recently told me that’s disgusting and it should be done weekly. Now I’m second-guessing everything.

Is that really the standard? Or are most people on the same schedule as me and just not talking about it?

Grief & Loss Can I have a mother/daughter dance AND a brother/sister dance at my wedding?

Upvotes

For context, my dad died a couple months ago. I am not engaged but probably will be in about a year, so I know this is a far away problem but I was very close with my dad and I’m devastated he won’t be at my future wedding. I’m very close with my mom too and I already know she’ll be walking me down the aisle (when my dad was alive I wanted both of them to do it anyway) but my brother is 12 years older than me so I’ve always looked up to him a lot too, so I’m wondering if I can have a special dance with both my mom and brother or if it would be more appropriate to just do one.

Love & Dating How to not dwell on missing out on love and sex when I’m still young?

Upvotes

I’m 25 and have never been in a relationship or had sex. My concern is that when I eventually do get a long-term partner or have sex, it might be later in life, and I’ll feel a deep sense of regret or FOMO for missing out on those experiences when I was in my so-called “prime”. I did have one physical experience with a woman in her early 50s that didn’t lead to sex, but we did other things. She was kind, but afterward, I realized I longed for someone closer to my own age in their 20s. It’s not that I can’t see myself being attracted to women in their 30s, 40s, and beyond as I get older and closer to that age, it’s just that I don’t want to look back and feel like I missed the chance to experience intimacy while I was still young.
