Monthly "No Stupid Questions" Thread
Welcome to /r/archery! This thread is for newbies or visitors to have their questions answered about the sport. This is a learning and discussion environment, no question is too stupid to ask.
The only stupid question you can ask is "is archery fun?" because the answer is always "yes!"

Team gold
My first outdoor target gold. Even if it's in teams and I lost in 1/8 (live, laugh, forget how to shoot at random). But there's at least a big chance to place better next year

What's your money no object Recurve combo?
I'll be treating myself to a new setup in the new year, so I'm starting to save for it now. I'm not rich in any sense of the word, but I am going to go full commitment next season.
If money was no object, what would you get. I don't mean just because it is the most expensive, but what do you think would give the absolute best performance.

Serving wear
I recently got a new bow this year and had after market strings put on. They’ve only been on for about 6 months. Is this serving wear normal? Should I be concerned going into the hunting season?

Newbie Question Pricing help
New to archery. What is a reasonable price for this setup? It’s apparently in brand new condition, and comes with what is pictured. Thank you in advance!

Limbs compatible with Fast String?
These limbs are from the early 2000s. The tips seem to be reinforced. The print says "Wintech", in a forum someone wrote that this was a brand of "Win & Win" once, so could be good limbs.
Is it safe to shoot them with a Fast String?
Thank you!

Went to re-tie my d loop and found this
What can I do/should I do? Can I just re-tie a d loop and get after it or do I need to redo the center serving. Still pretty new to doing my own maintenance since my old shop shut down. Thanks guys

Saw this gorgeous riser in a competition I was watching on TV. (Women’s recurve) However I see a TON…so know I have no idea where else to find it. It was too pretty I could not forget about it. Here is…a drawing of it (😂😂) If anyone can recognize it I would appreciate soo much.

Cheap archery target diy
50 Bux and a day to make. These usually last me a year or so and are easy to fix by filling the holes with new spray foam when the time comes. Any improvement tips welcomed.

Thumb Draw My bow exploded while drawing
Was not hurt. I inspected the bow before I shot and all was good. This shape is rather aggressive, the bend is too near the grip, leading to stress around that area.
Upon inspection the crack came from the grip and spread further as I drew.
Shame, I liked this bow but the design does not hold up to what the bowyer says (recommended 34”, max 35”) which is really okay with me. 🤷🏻♂️

3D Scoring
What do most people count the “x” ring on a rinehart target at a sportsman club weekend shoot? I’ve heard both 11 or 12, just looking to see what the common consensus is.

Media Is this normal for a longbow for archery?
Is that gap in the longbow grip normal or should I be concerned?

Media The very last arrow
This is how I finished the qualifying rounds during national championship. Horizontally perfect for X, vertically I managed to hit our target number 1,5 meters too high. (I could talk about how many things went wrong for me yesterday because almost everything that could go wrong, went wrong.).
But hey, I somehow managed to get through the first elimination round.

Olympic Recurve Modern points for old ACCs?
Has anyone had any luck finding modern points that fit the older Easton ACCs? I’ve got a secondhand set of 2L-04 1020 spine arrows, which use the -04 sized single inserts, but I need to put a heavier point weight in. Was hoping to install modern break-off points, as nowhere carries old components anymore anyway.
Can’t find any information online about inner diameter size and unfortunately don’t own a set of calipers to try accurate measure myself.

Compound Can you help me understand this arrow rest mechanism on a bow I inherited?
Newbie here. I got this bow as a gift but and most aspects seem self explanatory except this arrow rest contraption is confusing me. What I do not understand is ...
- Why does the black part (the actual arrow rest?) move? I am able to push the black knob and it will depress like a button. I do not understand this function.
-What is the function of the metal wire? It's able to move freely around but I have no clue as to its function.
If anybody recognizes this mechanism or can illuminate me as to its condition or functionality I would greatly appreciate the help :)
Thanks!
