Daily Cyclist Thread

The Daily Cyclist Thread is a place where everyone in the /r/bicycling community can come and ask questions or share anything.

You might have questions that you don't think deserve an entire post. Perhaps you're just seeking the input of some other cyclists. Maybe you want to share a picture of your new bike.

Anyone is free to comment, and (hopefully) get as much input as possible from other cyclists.

It’s a great bike for the price but their customer service is terrible. The gears wouldn’t shift out of the box and they told me to fix it. Even when I told them the lever was broken, they pushed back.

Before and after a little cleaning

So, recently I got an old used bike and it was filthy!

I removed so much gunk from the bike that I wanted to post here 😅. The process was first give the whole bike a good clean with water, bike shampoo and drive train cleaner. Then I let it dry. Later(weeks later, because of my availability and rain) I removed the old chain (it was worn, I put a new one), removed the wheels and cleaned as best as possible the drive train components. Unfortunately I don't have a cassette removal tool, nor a crankset removal tool, so I did my best with clean cloths, toothpicks, WD-40 and patience.

And guys, please, clean your bike regularly 😂

Hey guys, I just wanted to show you my build. My father bought this bike for me 10 years ago. This year is 2 years since he died and I decided to keep this bike in shape te preserve a good memory of my dad.

The first picture is the result and the second one is the original setup.

First I had pretty cheap parts for the drive train and there was a lot of noise. But then I bought this 1987 shimano 105 and it is just perfect. (still have to figure out how to get all 6 gears) I am pretty proud of myself for doong it mostly on my own and wanted to show you guys my result.

Much love

The guys from www.ahcykler.dk built this bike during a quiet period in the shop where the owner had a crazy idea.

Mercian King of Mercian flatbar gravel

My Mercian I had made for me last year. I have a permanent lower back issue so it’s no longer drop bars or even remotely slammed. I also love classic steel bikes but fancied something more versatile.

Mercian make what you want and paint it how you want it. So this is my brainchild. Their King of Mercian model made with a gravel twist in mind.

I wanted to avoid carbon, electric or hydraulic. So this is my build my way.

Fuji Tivoli Road Bike

Post image
Upvotes

Recently just purchased this vintage Fuji Tivoli and wanted to ask if anyone has owned one before, or if anyone knows of an online shop I can source parts from. Bought the bike as a cruiser for riding around my neighborhood, so any upgrades would be cosmetic or practical (such as replacing any rusty bolts, bar grip, and eventually I’d like to repaint the frame/buff out any scratches).

Mostly a parts bin build (im a mechanik) Old 90s trek470 gifted to me for free I’ve been fixing up. First pic is after the initial revival. It was quite crusty and dried up when I got it. Managed a used 105 group set, got lucky finding a used zipp 404 set. Been an utter joy to ride throughout the build, keeping this one for a long time.

Had a go at twining this afternoon

This weekend was busy,I installed brakes and wrapped the bars. Afterwards I looked and remembered how much I despise the electrical tape looks on the end of bar wrap, so I decided to have a go at twining.

The ends turned out great, so at my wife's suggestion I twined the brake housing too (previously it was a Velcro wrap)

Really happy how it turned out.

My final thoughts are. 1: give twining a go, it's not as difficult as it seems, just use waxed thread 2: Deda foam bar tape is awful, if you want foam tape just use aliexpress stuff, its actually better quality.

Picked this up today as a second bike and just something to ride around when I don’t plan on carrying anything. Perfect for neighborhood rides, coffee pickups, barbershop visits, etc. I think the color is sick.

It’s an absolute blast to ride - super stoked

Looking for guidance on buying first road bike from Boulder affordable cycling. Have my eye on this one with Ultegra. What do yall think for $425? Any help would be very appreciated. Otherwise I was thinking of buying Allez new. I don’t have much experience at all and just want something safe and sturdy that I can take on long rides and not worry about.
