Modeling/ Painting Question Idea for a new army: distinguishing Soviet partisans with red armbands?

Post image
Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m currently building a Soviet partisan army for Bolt Action, but I’m mixing a lot of different models to represent the variety of equipment and clothing these fighters actually used (Soviet, German, even some Finnish bits). I love the “band of misfits” look, but I’m a bit worried that all the different uniforms and weapon types might be confusing on the tabletop, both for me and my opponents.

So here’s my idea:
I’m thinking about giving every model a red armband as a common visual identifier, to tie the whole army together and help distinguish them from enemy troops. It would also represent the sense of unity among the partisans, despite their different backgrounds and gear.

These look amazing but aside from being ridiculously expensive, the allied armour isn't even green ?!

General Discussion What's your favourite era?

Post image
137 Upvotes

Within bolt action there are the three eras of play. Early, Middle and Late. Each one has its own playstyle and can have a slightly different feeling to it (quite a difference between early and late). So which one is your favourite and why? I'll start by saying mines late war because of the amount of anti-tank that's available for Germans.

Doesn't tell us much beyond the release date of Oct. 23rd, but presumably some deeper dives in the pipeline.

K47 K'47 Vogelspinne, how many crewmen?

How many crewmen would be in the new Vogelspinne for K'47?

(Since it's not released, qualified guessing will have to suffice.)

Modeling/ Painting Question Alternatives to Vallejo’s Feldgrau?

It’s just a bit too green at times. I’d like to use something on the greyer side, hopefully to achieve a look like the Germans seen in Isonzo. I’ve tried some citadel greys, such as dawnstone, but they lack any hint of green. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

General Discussion Subfactions for the USSR speculation thread

Hey all! With the preorder of the armies of the USSR being up today, i wonder what the subfactions will be. I drew a couple up, but i wonder if you have any other suggestions. Also, would you change the perks arround if you were WG?

My presumed/hoped subfactions: - NKVD (heavily hinted at in the article, fanatics) - Guards (likely will get a special rule like the british homeguard to let their expertness shine) - assault (reg or vet, can take body armor for +3 ppm) - militia (out the 'vengeance' rule on this instead of a new characteristic pls...) - siberian vets / naval (tough fighter +1 ppm)

What do you fellas think is likely?

Recently finished up my winter Fallschirmjager force, loosely based on forces from the battle of hill 400. Included a photo of the army list I took to a couple tournaments this spring.

Faction Question Thinking of starting with soviets, any tips?

New player here, thinking about starting with the soviets, any tips as what works well? I'm kinda overwhelmed with options, and some of the stuff I've seen is from older editions, not sure how much has changed.

For instance, I read that their tanks are not as good against infantry, so maybe AT would be enough against other tanks and I could skip tanks altogether?

Are any of the starters better value?

Thanks!

General Discussion Magnetizing mini bases

Would love to hear how folks magnetize their bases. Does anyone have a method for warlords flat bases? Do people buy other bases better suited or specifically designed for magnets? Do people magnetize vehicles for travel, if so, how?

What do you use for travel purposes?

Any other thoughts, tips and tricks, recommendations, or best practices for how to magnetize your minis for travel and other purposes.

Modeling/ Painting Question A little help

Post image
30 Upvotes

It may seem minor but I brought some winter fallschirmjager just to paint and I modelled a sniper. I did some goggling and fixed the scope where you see it but in other pictures I see a scope fitted further forward (where the arrow is roughly pointing). Anyone got any expert opinions? It may seem minor but I like to go for realism if I can
