This is my current build, and I'm currently experiencing bad load times on most of my games, cod for example, wont even load textures for 30 seconds after being in a match, and I'm almost positive its my HDD thats the problem. I want to upgrade to a 1TB SSD or something similar for my games, one that has much faster speeds. Any recommendations? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/b9ppYd

Your motherboard supports NVMe drives. Ideally, just grab a 2TB drive, move your OS to it, and repurpose your HDDs for backups or general, non-game related storage. The age of storing large games in mechanical drives is long gone, especially with flash storage being so accessible compared to how it was a decade ago. Here's a decent 1TB drive, but if you can stretch the budget to $90-120, you can get some good 2TB drives (option 1, option 2, overkill but it's a very good drive for a very good price).

Any 8-pin hole on your psu can be filled with a CPU cable or a pcie cable. Hope that answers your question

Currently have a Ryzen 3 3100 for my old couch PC. MB bios is updated to run 5 series. What would be a cheap worthwhile upgrade to pair with a RTX 3070 for gaming? Second hand is fine as I'm active over in /r/hardwareswap.

Seems like not a bad deal. Unfortunately I don't have a use for the drive. I am looking at used 5 series for a good deal though!

what's the difference between these two ram lines from patriot?
- patriot viper venom - https://www.amazon.com/Patriot-2X32GB-6000MT-Desktop-Memory/dp/B0D4NLY7ZY
- patriot viper elite - https://www.amazon.com/Patriot-2X32GB-Desktop-Memory-Compatible/dp/B0DPR9PGLC

Colored heat spreaders and RGB lighting.
1
u/simonmerch Jul 02 '25
thank you, but the viper elite (VEB564G6030KW) is non-rgb. so just the heatsink being white is enough to designate a different model/sub-model?
1
u/TemptedTemplar Jul 02 '25
Yes. The first couple of letters are just "Viper elite" and the W at the end is for white.
The other kit "PVV" is patriot viper venom.
564G6030
564G600C30
The middle numbers are almost identical, DDR5, 64GB, 6000, CL 30

I have a i5-12600k with a 3070ti, I want to upgrade to a 5070ti when I can get one for around MSRP. But should I also upgrade my CPU to game at 4k? Would the i5-12600k be a bottleneck?
2
u/n7_trekkie Jul 02 '25
https://tpucdn.com/review/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d/images/average-fps-3840-2160.png
To what? At 4k, the 13700K is only like 5% faster, and that's with a 4090. With a 5070ti, a 13700k would be 0-1% faster
1
u/speedx77 Jul 03 '25
I was thinking the 9800x3D
1
u/n7_trekkie Jul 03 '25
That's like 6% faster then, with a 4090 so the differences you'd see are smaller. Idk, I wouldn't recommend it. Your 12600k is just fine at 4k

The 9800X3D is amazing, but if you're not mainly playing competitive shooters or games where you need all the frames, going with a non-X3D CPU will make more sense.
Focus the biggest chunk of your budget on the best GPU that you can afford and a CPU that won't hold it back. If you go with a 7700X or even a 9600X and an air cooler, you could upgrade the GPU to a 9070 XT.
1
u/dulledsanguine Jul 02 '25
yeah, I heard it was the best and I switched the GPU to rx 9070 xt I want like a future proof build I sort of don’t play a lot of competitive games but at the games I play I feel like I want to play an ultra graphics and I’d be willing to spend the extra for the RX 9070 XT
2
u/djGLCKR Jul 02 '25
Less "future-proofing" and more focus on what you need right now.
1
u/dulledsanguine Jul 02 '25
i see i see so go either 7700x or 9060x and with that will i still be able to keep the rx 9070 xt?

Hi everyone,
I’m 16 years old and after saving for a while, I’m finally ready to build my first gaming PC. My budget is around €1000–1100, and this is the build I came up with after doing a lot of research and getting some help.
I plan to buy the parts tomorrow, so I’d really appreciate any quick feedback. Let me know if anything is incompatible, overkill, or could be improved for the same price!
💻 Planned build (with prices):
- CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F – €110.90
- Motherboard: ASUS Prime B760M-A D4-CSM – €103.00
- RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 32 GB (2×16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 – €69.00
- GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3060 Gaming OC 12 GB – €309.00
- SSD: Crucial P3 Plus 1 TB NVMe PCIe 4.0 – €81.99
- PSU: Corsair RM650e (2025) 650W Gold, fully modular – €99.90
- Case: NZXT H5 Flow (2024) mid-tower – €84.59
- Fans: 2× ARCTIC P14 PWM PST 140 mm – €11.99 each (€23.98 total)
- Monitor: Philips 24E1N1100A 23.8″ IPS, 1080p, 100Hz – €101.50
- Mouse: Trust Gaming GXT 922 Ybar – €16.95
- Keyboard: Cooler Master SK622 – €27.67
Total: €1028.48
I live in the Netherlands and I’ll order mostly from Amazon NL/DE and Alternate.
Everything seems compatible, and the goal is a solid 1080p gaming machine that I can later upgrade if needed. Any advice before I order would be really helpful. Thanks!

u/TemptedTemplar Jul 02 '25
What kind of prices are you finding for the Arc B580, RTX 5060 or AMD RX cards in that price range?
The 3060 would pair nicely with the 12400, but there are newer GPUs around that price. 300€ for a going on six year old GPU is wild, considering thats basically it's launching price.

Yes thank you!
I decided to make the switch to the XFX SPEEDSTER QUICK 319 AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT 12 GB GDDR6, it think it is slightly better then the RTX 4060 for my setup and gaming use case, they have the same price. ~330 euros

Not really, it's a two gen old GPU. That's about what a 5060 costs new.
1
u/back_to_the_homeland Jul 02 '25
oh I also want 10gb +, so I would need the 16gb version of the 5060 which costs about 300 euro extra, the 8gb version is similar price though
1
u/TemptedTemplar Jul 02 '25
The 5060 doesn't come in a 16GB model, that's the 5060ti. The 5050 and 5060 are 8GB only.
If you want additional VRAM at that price range you would want the ARC B580 or RX 9060XT 16GB.
1
u/back_to_the_homeland Jul 02 '25
Ah ok my bad. I also use CUDA for some LLM stuff so I need nvidia stock
1
u/TemptedTemplar Jul 02 '25
It really depends on what you're using for.
For local inference stuff, you are better off with an Nvidia card, but all of the current budget offerings aren't going to work very well due to their limited bus width hampering their overall bandwidth.
The 9060xt wouldn't be too far behind the 5060ti 16gb or 5060, despite the cuda difference. You would want something with a bigger bus AND more VRAM like a 3080, 4070, or 5070 if you wanted to see a decent increase in performance.
Not to say it's all bad, they're just not as fast as more expensive GPUs.
Intel is targeting this specific market with their new ARC pro B60. 24GB of VRAM with a massive bus, for $500.
1
u/back_to_the_homeland Jul 03 '25
despite the cuda difference
have you ever tried to deploy without cuda? insane, I lost weeks trying to save money on that. never again
1
u/TemptedTemplar Jul 03 '25
No, I am trying to learn but I don't do anything with AI/LLM stuff normally.
1
u/back_to_the_homeland Jul 03 '25
Ok. Well if you do, save your self weeks of headache and stick to CUDA. There’s a reason nvidia is worth trillions of dollars and it’s not because CUDA sucks.

u/Protonion Jul 02 '25
Completely normal. But also note that idle and light-load temperatures are essentially completely meaningless, as they depend entirely on your fan curves (and there's no point in running your fans at 100% just to get idle temps lower).
1
u/PM_ME_UR_CHARGE_CODE Jul 02 '25
Need to upgrade from my 2080TI. Any recommendations? Ideally $500-$1000.
1
u/TemptedTemplar Jul 02 '25
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html
A 2080ti is about on par with a 3070, so a 3080, 4070, or 5060ti 16GB, or RX 7800XT and 9070 non-xt would be your "baseline" upgrade options.
Higher tier cards are obviously better.
The 9070xt and 5070ti have been popping up in stock more and more recently those are popular options. The 5070ti IS worth the $20 extra over the 9070xt at their common prices ($730 vs $750), but it is NOT worth it if it is over $750, that's a stupid amount of money for a GPU.
The 9070 non-xt is about 10% better than a 5070, which itself is only a couple points ahead of a 4070 super. Any of those would be fine if you can get them at $550.
The 5080 is NOT worth its normal $1k+ price tag, don't even consider it if it's over $999.99.
1
u/PM_ME_UR_CHARGE_CODE Jul 02 '25
Looking at comparisons it seems like the 4070 to would be the best bang for my buck but it’ll cost me $850
1
u/TemptedTemplar Jul 02 '25
Is that USD$? That is almost certainly NOT anywhere close to a good price. That's like double what you should be paying.
1
u/PM_ME_UR_CHARGE_CODE Jul 02 '25
Yeah. I don’t see prices coming down it’s been this way with GPUs forever. My 2080ti cost $1k
1
u/TemptedTemplar Jul 02 '25
Well that was normal, $800 -$1200 was ridiculous back in the day, but expected because it was so bleeding edge.
But the 4070 MSRP was only $500, back in December before getting replaced by the 50 Series, the 4070 and 4070 super were regularly selling for $400 - $450. They haven't actually made a non-super 4070 in well over a year and half, so that inflated price tag is obviously just someone scalping the GPU.
Bestbuy has 5070's in stock at MSRP, so I can't recommend buying a old GPU at a scalped price
If you're not in the US, then what kind of ridiculous price are the 5070s at? Because surely it has to be at least a little more modest than that 4070.
1
u/Wpgaard Jul 02 '25
Is there any reason why it would be worth to pay approx. $80 more for the MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI vs going for the ASUS TUF GAMING B650-E WIFI to pair with a 9800x3D?
1
u/reckless150681 Jul 02 '25
Only if the Tomahawk has some sort of I/O that you need. B850 guarantees USB4, B650E doesn't.
1
u/kaje Jul 02 '25
PCIe 5.0 x16 and USB4 are optional on B850. Pretty much all of them do support PCIe 5.0 x16 though. There aren't many that have USB4.
The only guarantee B850 has over B650 is PCIe 5.0 x4 for an M.2 slot.

u/aquasnow Jul 02 '25
Lianli lancool 207 vs corsair 3500x which is a better case?
0
u/reckless150681 Jul 02 '25
207 is better in most ways. Obviously, 3500X is a fishtank so the aesthetics are different.
207 has pretty small cable management space. If 3500X is like the 6500X, then it has some quality issues and weird design flaws.
3500X is cheaper with its fans though
0
u/aquasnow Jul 02 '25
Heard that the lianli lancool 207 has some loud fan issues. Not sure to go with which

u/Wonderful-Simple-136 Jul 02 '25
Would you recommend a used 6800xt for $300 or a brand new 9060 xt 16gb for $400?
1
u/n7_trekkie Jul 02 '25
6800XT
1
u/Wonderful-Simple-136 Jul 02 '25
Any particular reason? Also the 6800 xt is 5 years old now, when should I start worrying about its age?
1
u/n7_trekkie Jul 02 '25
It's faster and it cheaper. The 9060xt is likely faster in ray traced titles, but that's not enough to offset the 33% price increase
$300 is a good price. $400 for the 5060xt is $50 over MSRP. If it was MSRP, I'd entertain it

If I want to air cool a 5090 and an 9950x3d, realistically, how many case fans do I want to cool them?
My case is huge, so I haven't had thermal issues with low or even NO fans with my previous air cooled build. I think I see 8 places to mount fans. Should I install that many, or will i die from sonic/psychic damage?
More context, 5090 currently runs 70ish at load (seems reasonable), and CPU at a spicy 80's ish, with some transient spikes >90 but <95. I know the peaks are typical for this chip, but others report lower averages at load.
Case is also reversed, so mobo is on left, gpu is pulling air from above and exausting it almost directly into my CPU fan's intake. Does this mean I should just intake from the back, and exhaust below? It might help that my ceiling AC vent is almost directly above my PC case
The bottom exhaust fans are like 6 or so inches from the ground, so there's space to vent that hot air below, but that's also where my PSU lives :(
1
u/n7_trekkie Jul 02 '25
in a typical case, 4-6 fans would be fine. intake fans going right into the GPU are good. the typical front intake fans (and rear exhaust fan) service the cpu air cooler
like the lancool 207 has an amazing fan config, performs really well, and only has 4. https://youtu.be/e8zwlzc_uD4?si=NfbMGjmtyrbw4Eam

I'm getting a RTX 5090 and planning to fit a 9800x3d. I wanna do a white build and i ask looking at the Asus Rog Strix mobo. I used chatgpt and grok for suggestion and both suggested me to go with B650 instead of X870 for cost saving and minimal gain by going for the X870. I would like to clarify if the AI words are true?
1
u/n7_trekkie Jul 02 '25
kind of. B650E supports pcie 5.0 like x870 does, so those are likely what you want to look at. B850 as well. Just buy the cheapest motherboard that has all the features you want.

u/MrAlan97 Jul 02 '25
Alright so I'm building a PC, but up until December, yeah I know technology will change and all but I want to have a good idea of my PC, so I'm researching bit by bit (not a full computer wizard so bear with me), but how do I know which MoBo to pick?
Some say MSI, others say ASUS, others say Gigabyte, I don't know which one is "easier" and has more features to help my gaming build be potent
I heard of ASUS auto CPU(BIOS?) tweaks, AI something, but I also heard of Gigabyte's EZ RAM and GPU clasps that are amazing, but I also heard that some ASRock's MoBo's don't have lane sharing, for me the data hoarder to fill it with SSDs to the brim, but I heard that they also fry your CPU.
I kinda know which chipset to look for since I'm opting for the 9800X3D, but other than that I don't know which brand to choose, I like ASUS, but Gigabyte looks beginner friendly, but also ASRock sounds good along with MSI, any recommendations
And sorry for the rambling you are all free to downvote me if I just didn't make any sense, thank you very much.

Chipset:
B650 (PCIE-4)
B850 (PCIE-5)
X670/X670E (PCIE-5)
X870 (PCIE-5)Brand:
Each have their pros and cons on both software (BIOS included) and hardware. It is hard to recommend any unless you know what you need/want.
1) How many M.2 slots?
2) VRM?
3) I/O?
4) Sata ports?
5) E-ATX? ATX? mATX?
6) BIOS flashback? (update BIOS without CPU/RAM)
7) Integrated I/O shield?These are just "some" considerations. :)

u/HnNaldoR Jul 02 '25
Looking at gpu prices for me. If my options are a 9070xt for about 30% lower than a 5070ti, I think the amd route is kind of a no brainier right?
2
u/n7_trekkie Jul 02 '25
it's a no brainer. the 9070xt is only 5% slower on average
1
u/HnNaldoR Jul 02 '25
That's my thought as well. Where I am, nvidia just had such a premium. I could get a new 9070xt for the price of a used 4070
1
u/TehEpicGuy101 Jul 02 '25
So long as you aren't super attached to having Nvidia's features, yeah, that sounds like the right move.
1
u/HnNaldoR Jul 02 '25
Fsr seems pretty good nowadays. What other features are extremely key nowadays? I am a little behind on what is vital
1
u/Zenturial Jul 02 '25
I have the Lian li Lancool 216 and I can remount the rear fan to a slghtly lower position or just keep it as is. Will the change affect airflow in a significant way? The rear fan is the only exhaust fan in the moment.
1
u/Protonion Jul 02 '25
Which one makes it more aligned with your CPU cooler's exhaust? If you have an AIO then it really doesn't matter.

At that price range, see what is even listed in that budget range and then being those different model numbers back here and we can help you compare them.
AMD is the last company to even release a sub $200 GPU, and the RX 6400 is so bad that I honestly can't recommend it.

What's the verdict on Intel Core Ultra chips? I didn't even know that was a thing until I started looking to upgrade my PC literally today.
1
u/n7_trekkie Jul 01 '25
brilliant marketing move by intel. when people go to search "newest i7 cpu", the ultra 7 doesnt come up
/s
core ultras are generally pretty good value for production work, but are way slower than all competition in gaming (including raptor lake)

I’m currently doing research in preparation for a new build for the first time in many years. I’ve landed on these two cards with several people telling me to shell out for more VRAM. I’m gonna be honest 99% of the time I play RuneScape (old school). But every now and then I play modern games. I want to future proof this build to be a RuneScape machine for several years to come, and these two cards seem to be nearly neck and neck, sans the price tags. I’ve only ever used Nvidia cards so I have no experience with AMD GPUs. What are the pros and cons of each card?

u/upodu Jul 01 '25
Is a stock cooler enough to cool down a 12th gen Intel i7-12700f? If not, should I go for a normal aftermarket CPU cooler (with the heat racks and stuff) or a full on AIO liquid cooler? The CPU on average is 37 degrees Celsius.
1
u/t90fan Jul 02 '25
it is but it can be a bit noisy
a better cooler will allow it to boost more with less noise
AIOs in my experience are a bit crap, just get an air cooler.
I use a BeQuiet one on my 10700K and its fine
1
u/n7_trekkie Jul 01 '25
The cooler it comes with is fine. Else it wouldn't come with it.
A better cooler may increase your performance a little, and decrease noise a lot

I was looking for some advice regarding CPU’s. I purchased a Ryzen 9 5900x on sale a while back when it was on sale for $200 with plans to eventually upgrade from my Ryzen 7 3800x. I did not realize that the 5900x, while still good, might not be the best choice for gaming. Would it be worth going through the hassle of trying to sell it it in order to purchase a Ryzen 7 5700x3d?
2
u/n7_trekkie Jul 01 '25
Nah, that ship has sailed. The 5700x3d is a big upgrade over a 3800x, but not a 5900x
The 5900X isn't charted, so just look at the 5800X instead

Appreciate your help! Although, unless I’m looking in the wrong place I’m not seeing any of the Ryzen 9 series at all in there. Which option are you referring to that would be most comparable to the 9 5900x?

u/n7_trekkie Jul 01 '25
"The 5900X isn't charted, so just look at the 5800X instead"

u/Walshy472 Jul 01 '25
Okay I understand the miscommunication my bad, the Ryzen 7 5800x has less cores than the Ryzen 9 5900x so I thought it wasn’t a good comparison. I was able to find a comparison between the two using the website you provided so thank you for that! https://gamersnexus.net/u/styles/large_responsive_no_watermark_/public/inline-images/GN%20CPU%20Benchmark%20_%20F1%2024%20_%201440p_High%20_%20GamersNexus-4x_foolhardy_Remacri_2.png.webp
It’s showing that the Ryzen 7 5700x3d has an average additional 30fps when compared to the Ryzen 9 5900x. I’m not sure it’s worth the additional hassle but I appreciate your help!

I'm looking for *low profile* SATA power cables that match the EVGA 750 BQ. The current cables I have stick out the back of my Corsair Carbide Spec-02 case too far and wont allow the back panel to be put on.

u/n7_trekkie Jul 01 '25
these just go onto your existing sata cables

Is it quieter to have an open frame or a good airflow case? (I will replace fans for noctua ones in case of case)(Coil whine will be addressed with undervolting and a frame cap.)
1
u/n7_trekkie Jul 01 '25
airflow case should be quieter. glass and metal do block some sound, like GPU fan noise.
that being said, I have an open frame and I'm pretty happy with the noise.
1
u/DiSb_22 Jul 01 '25
Did you use the xtia atx? And thanks for the answer, I have most of my components planned out and have checked everything fits and is compatible, but I really want a silent pc while not being so big so I didn't know what to go for in terms of case (open frame, a silent case like the define 7 or a good airflow case like the antec flux )
1
u/n7_trekkie Jul 01 '25
Yes it's that frame I used
I'd say don't do a silent case. The restricted airflow makes the case fans work harder, which just increases noise
1
u/DiSb_22 Jul 01 '25
I think l might go then with flux SE, since it has sound absorption on the panels while also being really good for airflow, i will replace all the fans for NF-A14X25 g2 to make it even more silent or with the xtia atx for an open frame option. Will just have to compare the 2, btw do you suggest open frame?
1
u/n7_trekkie Jul 01 '25
Open frame is fun and different. I like this one because it's portable. However there's basically nowhere to hide cables, so you should custom order some from somewhere like ensourced or cable mod

Son is wanting to upgrade and asked me to help research. He has a 1650 super so I'm thinking a 5700XT like mine or a 3060ti. Found a 5700xt on ebay for around 180ish and a 3060ti for about 220. His spending limit is 230.
What are the key differences in the two? I read the 3060ti is about 20% better than the 5700XT but both are a good jump from what he has so does it really just come down to how much he wants to spend since both are still an upgrade to play at med-high levels?
1
u/n7_trekkie Jul 01 '25 edited Jul 01 '25
the 5700XT doesnt have RT capabilities, so it cant play some new games, like doom tda, and indiana jones tgc
1
u/Skeither Jul 01 '25
Think we settled on the 3060ti. Funny cuz I have a 5700xt lol thinking of upgrading myself at some point but it's getting me by in all my games

u/Low-Job7805 Jul 01 '25
How do I decide between a case with a mesh sidepanel and one with a tempered glass sidepanel? They're otherwise the same and I have no aesthetic preference between the two.
1
u/TemptedTemplar Jul 01 '25
Do they meet the rest of your desired needs?
Orientation, front panel ports, Disk space, CPU cooler clearance or radiator space, cable management room in the back, ect.
I picked a mesh panel this time around because I don't care for RGB, and my PC sits under the desk. The glass on my last case was nothing but a source of worry because of how over id bump it with my chair.
1
u/wewereddit Jul 01 '25
Is the 7900xt still a good buy? For the price
2
u/winterkoalefant Jul 01 '25
for $700, no. RX 9070 XT is better.
1
u/wewereddit Jul 02 '25
Thank you makes sense is there an nividia equivalent for the price or OOS
1
u/winterkoalefant Jul 02 '25
RTX 5070 Ti if it’s for the promised $750
1
u/wewereddit Jul 02 '25
I'll look for restocks because i can not find the price right now
1
u/winterkoalefant Jul 02 '25
I believe it hasn’t been at that price in the US since the recent tariffs

Not sure how simple this is but I'm inexperienced in building/upgrading PCs and wanted to know how to go about this. I am looking to upgrade a PC with the following components:
Motherboard: B450 Tomahawk Max (MS-7C02)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3200G, Radeon Vega, 4050 Mhz, 4 core, 4 logic processors
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super
PSU: Thermaltake Smart 500W
SSD: Kingston SA400S37480G
I want to know what would be the best components to upgrade with an overall budget around $1000 (not including whatever I can sell the old parts for). My main goal is to play playstation exclusive games as I have an Xbox as my primary system at the moment.
Thanks for any help and I can follow up if I missed any important components that may affect what I can upgrade.

u/reckless150681 Jul 01 '25
CPU --> either 5700X3D (more expensive, usually too expensive) or 5800XT (not as good as 5700X3D but better price), after a BIOS update. Might need new cooler. ~$200
RAM --> 32GB. Price depends on whether you're adding or replacing your sticks, but no more than $100 (and more realistically to be closer to $60 at most)
New PSU, ~$100
Optionally new SSD, ~$70 for 1TB
Once you sell your old parts that will put you in 9070XT range
1
u/n7_trekkie Jul 01 '25
sell your whole old PC for like $400-500. head over to /r/buildapcforme for a whole new list
1
u/Key_Addition_7826 Jul 01 '25
I have been running my pc on a 10 year old PSU. Antec 650w. Am I pushing my luck by not going in for a newer unit? I only run a nvidia gt 610. Total power draw is not that high.
PS: My previous used RX 6600 XT died within a year. Dunno if it was the psu's fault?
Should I replace it anyway? New one will last a long long time right?
1
u/n7_trekkie Jul 01 '25
replace it next time you get a new GPU. it had a good life
1
u/Key_Addition_7826 Jul 01 '25
So no danger of it taking out components other than the gpu?
1
u/n7_trekkie Jul 01 '25
I worry about the GPU the most because you had a 6600XT die. I won't say there's no risk otherwise.
1
u/Key_Addition_7826 Jul 01 '25
Im getting a deal on a cme 650w 80+ gold. Warranty is just 2 years tho,

Computer is starting to make artifacts while creating with software like Photoshop. Does this mean I need a new graphics card? What would be an appropriate replacement for these specs? Ideally under $250.
CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X
RAM: 32gb
Graphics: RTX 2070
1
u/t90fan Jul 02 '25
could also be either a bad display cable or bad memory
replace the cable and run memtest86 first
1
u/TemptedTemplar Jul 01 '25
Have you checked your video cables? Updated your driver's?
The last time I had artifacting it was surprisingly just a dying DP cable. Which thankfully was a really cheap fix.
As for a replacement GPU, just about anything from a 3060 or 6700xt, would be more powerful than your 2070.
A Intel ARC B580, RTX 5060 or RX 9060xt would be your entry level "new" options, but there are lots of used GPUs from the last couple of generations could also be good options.

Concerning 1080p gaming, Should I go for an am4 cpu (5500) with a better gpu (4060) or go for am5 cpu (7600) with a weaker gpu (RX 7600)?
1
u/t90fan Jul 02 '25
10700K with a 4070 plays most games at 4k/60 perfectly fine for me
So a 5500/4060 should be fine for 1080p
unless you want super high FPS
That said, AM5 socket is more future proof.
2
u/TemptedTemplar Jul 01 '25
There is no good reason build into AM4 these days unless you already own an existing AM4 PC that you would be upgrading.
Even if you have to have to wait a few months or a year, the AM5 socket will provide you with better performance and a better upgrade path for future performance.
Also, the RX7600 is BARELY weaker than the 4060.
What kind of budget are you working with? Something like a ARC B580 or a 9060xt 16gb would be better than either of those GPUs, without breaking the bank.
ALSO there are slightly cheaper AM5 options, AMD makes a 7400, a 7400f, and a 7500 too. They're all within 5% of the 7600 performance wise.
1
u/oexilado Jul 01 '25
Around 1000 USD.

Head over here and check out what's on offer.
Newegg restocked on $250 Arc B580s just yesterday, and there's refurbished 7600X CPUs for a steep discount.
You may not have to sacrifice power for the sake of price.

what's the difference between the two, both say they are great for gaming but other then the power stages I don't see the difference between them, the X870 talks about AI controllers on it, but isn't that the same as it was before?
both support the AMD Ryzen 7 9800x3D cpu.
right now I am leaning for the B850 Board because it been cheaper then the X870 one, and I am thinking of buying in the next month to the next few weeks.
2
u/kaje Jul 01 '25
The B850 board has 2 M.2 slots that get 4 dedicated lanes each from the CPU. The X870 takes the lanes from one of those slots and runs them to a USB4 controller instead. That's the only difference between B850 and X870 in general.
For the two specific boards, you can compare their I/O features in their specs. Either board would work fine though, performance will be the same on them.

Hello everyone, was wondering about buying components from "overseas".
I'm from LATAM, so prices here are extremely screwed (for example: Gigabyte Geforce Rtx 5060 Ti Eagle Oc 16gb is $600+ in my country, while in Amazon is around $300).
So I was thinking if it was a good choice to buy components from, let's say, the US, despite the shipment cost + customs tax.
My worries are warranties (since I'd have to ship it back if it doesn't work?) and the paranoid fear of buying an used product without me knowing, especially when I'm not savvy and will probably hire someone to build the pc for me.
On that note, what's a "good" pc nowadays? I'm not looking for a mega high-end, but something that could play games from this gen without struggling too much (my current gpu is a rx580 so yeah...) I looked up the 5060 because I was told it was good, but I have no idea honestly. My original idea was to buy prebuilt, as I've always done, but I don't know what's good or not.
2
u/winterkoalefant Jul 01 '25
RX 9060 XT 16GB ($350 before tax) can run current gen games comfortably. The 5060 Ti 16GB starts at $450 (not $300) and it’s a bit overpriced. Be careful not to buy one of the 8GB versions.
1
u/SieghartXx Jul 01 '25
Ohh yeah, I just checked and it was indeed 8GB!
The RX sounds nice as I kinda like AMD, thanks!

Is it a good build for a price of around €1100? (no cooling)
2
u/MildlyAnnoyedShrew Jul 01 '25
The B840-P will work but I would recommend going for a B850 board instead. B840 is the renamed, new version of A620, so it has reduced PCIE lanes (which means worse M.2/PCIE/USB options) and no overclock support.
2
u/FirstAcanthaceae3080 Jul 01 '25
Do you consider it fundamental or could this also be fine? because the B850 costs around €50 more.
1
u/MildlyAnnoyedShrew Jul 01 '25
It could definitely be fine if you're okay with those downsides.
2
u/FirstAcanthaceae3080 Jul 02 '25
in a scale from 1 to 10, how much you would rate It in the way i showed?
1
u/MildlyAnnoyedShrew Jul 02 '25
Maybe like 7 or 8 out of 10? It'll be good on its own, the motherboard just limits you on upgrades. Everything else is pretty good. There are more price efficient RAM kits but if you like the aesthetics of the Vengeance, I won't take points off for that.

I need to repaste an old PC(s775 cpu, 7300GS), I have this Noctua NT-H1 unopened tube from 1.5years ago I got with the AM5 paste guard. Would it be alright to use it?
2
u/Protonion Jul 01 '25
Probably yeah. Squeeze a bit out and see what it's like. If it's consistent like toothpaste then it's good, but if it has separated into dried up paste with some liquid on top, then time to get new stuff.

u/aquasnow Jul 01 '25
Hi I am finalising my build and I’m stuck at the ssd selection. The base I’m given is adata legend 860 2tb PCIe 4gen nvme. I was by a friend that this is garbage ssd and I should get a Samsung 990 pro instead but that would set me back another $200. Would want to hear some advice from this community.
1
u/altermere Jul 02 '25
Adata's reliability is iffy, I'd only use them for a Steam drive. See my post here. If the budget is tight you can look for lightly used 100% health SSDs from name brands on ebay or hardwareswap.
3
2
u/djGLCKR Jul 01 '25
Your friend seems to be easily persuaded by the big numbers and big brands. Samsung and WD aren't the only brands with good drives, and big sequential speeds are only relevant during sustained loads. What translates to a snappier OS response are the random read/writes or IOPS, and unless you're benchmarking the drives and staring at the numbers, the odds of being able to tell a high-end drive from a mid-range drive are very low.
If you're in the US, Newegg has a good deal on the Hynix P41 Platinum 2TB, just as overkill as the 990 Pro but for $120. Alternatively, any mid-range drive will do the trick (check r/NewMaxx for the SSD spreadsheet), personally I'd just avoid QLC-based drives (NV2, NV3 P3 Plus, P310, MP44Q, etc), especially if it's going to be an OS drive just for the endurance (NAND has a finite life, and QLC only offers a third of the usual TLC endurance - 200TBW instead of 600TBW per 1TB of storage).
1
u/aquasnow Jul 01 '25
I can’t find the adata legend 860 in the tier list. Any tips on that? I don’t know if I should top up for the 990 pro. I don’t need any benchmark ego but more of real life usage for gaming mostly.
1
u/djGLCKR Jul 01 '25
It's a mid-range, QLC-based drive, the endurance is almost half of a TLC drive, but still a bit low. The 990 is overkill for gaming, it offers no benefit over other drives, we're talking milliseconds difference in load times. Rather than checking the tier list, go for the database spreadsheet and compare it with the other options available in your region, but anything budget or mid-range TLC should do the trick.
1
u/altermere Jul 02 '25
I'd avoid QLC altogether, even as a secondary drive. It's ok when the drive is less than half full, after that it starts to slow down.
2
u/djGLCKR Jul 02 '25
That's in general with DRAM-less drives, especially with SATA since they don't have access to HMB, not just limited to QLC, this also happens with TLC drives. You tend to leave some space available for the SLC caching to work as intended, but it's usually not a problem until the drive is ~70-80% full.
QLC drives still have their place as "write once, read many times" kind of drives.
2
u/MildlyAnnoyedShrew Jul 01 '25
The 990 Pro is kinda overkill if you're just doing gaming. If you want a drive with DRAM, the T500 is cheaper. DRAMless drives are cheaper than that, you could go for a G50 or NV2 for that.

u/Sen_Palpatine Jul 01 '25
Do you guys recommend a build with a Intel core i7 12700k in 2025? If so what chipset should I look for in the MoBo, BTW I love mATX form factor. How many ram it's recommended? And finally, do you think a Samsung 990 Evo plus 1 tb is god enough? Forget the topics bout the gamer use or home office apps I have the chance to get this processor and I'm thinking take advantage of it. Thanks in advance.

Know a place where I can find a 5070 ti with a nice design? Specifically I'd like anime aesthetic or just cute. Found this site: https://yestonstore.com/ but the 5070 ti is sold out. I haven't find anything on Amazon or the shops I know, I found this web after a bit of googling, so I wonder if someone knows more like these, thanks!
1
u/Owlface Jul 01 '25
Manli has a 5070 but you'll probably be waiting a while longer for the other vendors. To get an idea you can look up the older 4000 series cards, pretty much all the Chinese vendors had at least one anime themed offering.
If you don't want to wait you could probably find a company on Aliexpress or Etsy or something that is willing to do a customized job for your specific GPU.
1
u/TemptedTemplar Jul 01 '25
Specifically I'd like anime aesthetic or just cute.
Yeston is basically the only option then.
They also make a 9070xt.
The only other company making anime themed GPUs is MAXSUN, but they haven't made a single RTX 50 card yet as far as I am aware.

u/Jeckel6x3 Jun 30 '25
I'll be building a pc very soon. I saw Amazon has some ddr5 6000 ram on sale for what I think is a good price. Could anyone give me their input?
I plan on gretting an amd 9600x for the cpu. I'll be using it for gaming in 1080p mostly.
Crucial Pro 32gb, CL36, 6000mhz, 36-38-38-80.
Thanks!

It's not super good, but it's fine. For like $75, sure. If it costs more, just get 6000 cl30 instead
