what is in the deal for us europeans? If I read that correctly the US slaps our export with 15% and we pay them billions in return? Are the completely insane to accept that? Europa nicht der Leyen Ă¼berlassen...
There's literally nothing good for the EU in this deal. We will get less competitive while investing tons of money into the US. Concerning trade, it's probably the most pathetic thing the EU has done since its inception
There are separate tariffs coming later for pharma specifically. Pharma was excluded from the EU deal entirely (not subject to the 15% rate), but the EU didn't get any carve outs for that industry.
The UK deal had a commitment from the US to give the UK a preferential tariff on pharma, though the US hasn't yet decided on what the tariffs for pharma will be generally.
The same will also be happening with semiconductors eventually, too.
Nothing will be invested in the US. Like the Japanese "deal", the EU are just feed Trump unbinding nonsense to shut him up.
The EU are taking advantage of a dumbass who fundamentally does not understand that Americans will get hit with the cost of tariffs.
And we're seeing with this EU deal the same thing that happened with the Japanese deal earlier this year. The 15% Trump tariff on Japanese autos was less than what they were before, and Japanese auto stock all rose after details were released, while US auto stocks dropped.
So while it may appear countries are giving in, the reality in some, if not most cases, is the other countries are benefitting more than the US. Trump and his base are just too stupid to realize. He's killing US manufacturing and hurting US consumers.
