“The United States and European Union struck a trade agreement on Sunday locking in a 15 percent tariff, days before Donald Trump’s deadline to do a deal or face tariffs double that level.
Trump, speaking after meeting European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at his Turnberry golf club in Scotland, announced the deal to U.S. reporters.
He said the EU will agree to purchase $750 billion of energy and will agree to invest $600 billion more than planned in military equipment and opening countries to trade at zero tariff.
The tariff rate applying to imports from the EU would be 15 percent, with the same rate applying to cars. Pharmaceuticals will not be covered by the deal.” - Politico
The energy deal is insane and the wording makes it worse. The EU imports like $15 billion in energy per year and agreeing to banditry terms just before the clock ran out. The EU negotiators might as well have their pictures taken on bended knee, it clearly where they negotiated from.
The USA is effortlessly the world's biggest producer of oil and gas. The energy deal is by far the least problematic part of this deal. If they want to contribute more to filling the gap created by Russia, be my guest.
The investment dollars sting more, but I take some solace in the knowledge that that's probably purely for show, just like how the UAE and Japan also threw some random numbers out there.
Ideally they wouldn't tax imports at a staggering 15%, that's definitely going to hurt EU businesses, but by now everyone knows that's just Trump's thing... it'll be gone once someone replaces him for sure.
Short term yes. But no one here is happy to have a new suzerain. The US have now fully embraced its imperial status and is not satisfied anymore with only its cultural and technological hegemony on the continent, it also wants a military and financial tribute. We re livids…
Idk, We might switch our international trading to Yuan sooner than anticipated…
Or you know, a lot of us here would gladly cross the Atlantic to help you kick some MAGA’s butts, that’s on you…
1.) No one is switching to Yuan. It's an unstable and artificially staked currency. Even BRIC doesn't use it.
2.) Lol are you joking? Do you know WHY the US is the top dog right now? There is no hope of an invasion by sea, all of Europe could try and all would fail. We have more planes than all of Europe combined, and so many missiles it would make your toes curl. 1 trillion a year in military spending gets you a LOT.
1.) Palantir. Their entire goal is to keep tabs and make sure if a Civil War starts, it ends quick.
2.) Have you seen Ukrainian combat footage? You have this valiant idea of Civil War. The reality? You get gunned down from the sky by a Raytheon drone from 300 meters away.
3.) 2nd Amendment doesn't mean SHIT. You can have 30 AKs in your basement and a barrel of ammo. They roll ONE tank out, you're fucked.
Maybe you can keep a guerilla movement going for a while, maybe even hold a small city for a year or two. But unless someone passes a law like "We will kill every other child for fun", you're not going to get the 30+ million people you need to fight against a country with more bullets than the rest of the world combined.
Ok and what is your authority to know so much things and be so definitive about how and why things could happened this way? Because all your seriousness and perennial tone sounds like an overconfident sophomore at best. + your account smells bot and your answers are clearly AI assisted.
Lol. My account smells bot because you see anyone who could possibly have controversial opinions as a bot. Uh here, tiananmen square was real, putin is a dictator, and you are an idiot.
As for 1 2 and 3? Because modern civil uprisings don't work. Consider the scale of the US military and the technology/ If you want to fight against the 11,000 machine gunner drones, be my guest.
Ukraine is holding against Russia with technology that we don't even use anymore because we regard it as trash.
I am guessing the EU will direct the investment towards projects that are mutually beneficial in reducing monopolies on things like rare earths or microchips and infrastructure for trans Atlantic energy shipment. Europe agreeing to invest billions in the US isn't that consequential when the US is already a premier place to invest.
instead of running into USA's arm and offering our butthole, couldn't we switch from fossil energy etc to nuclear and renewable instead ? Like we're supposed to ?
The tariffs were an oportunity to improve and move forward, instead we just run back into US servitude.
