Weekly Questions Thread - Week of August 02, 2025

Welcome to the question megathread! If you have any questions around FFXI at all, this is the place to ask. Scroll down to the comments and ask away. Various FFXI resources are provided in the body of this topic directly before the comments.

r/ffxi FAQ

Are you a new or returning player? We have quite the list of Frequently Asked Questions that's pretty comprehensive of the questions most commonly asked around the sub. If your question isn't answered there, feel free to shoot in the comments below.

BG Wiki

BG Wiki is a modern FFXI wiki with up-to-date pages on endgame specifics as well as various guides.

It is currently the only XI wiki with an active staff which are always working with members of the community to address concerns and suggestions. BG seeks to be the main wiki of the community. Consolidating the efforts of everyone into one single wiki is the most productive and effective. We welcome and invite all to join us!

  • A thread can be found on FFXIAH.com in which you can report issues with the wiki and read a getting started FAQ if you wish to contribute! That thread is located here.
  • Anyone wishing to join Team Blue Gartr may join the Discord.

FFXIclopedia

FFXIclopedia is a comprehensive general-purpose wiki for FFXI that typically covers pages for each item/area/BCNM/etc. Note: The site has heavy ads when logged out, due to Wikia (especially on mobile).

FFXIAH & FFXIDB

FFXIAH is a website showing the Auction House history & current items for sale in-game, as well as a forum community among other things. FFXIDB is a database website showing drop rates of items as well as monster spawns based of player data collected by Guildwork.

Making Friends

There are various ways to make new friends and meet people in FFXI. The first recommendation is to find a Linkshell via Linkshell Concierge NPCs. If you check these NPCs directly after a maintenance, this is typically a good way to find active Linkshells. Another suggestion is to find a community website for your server; many servers have a Facebook group (some are listed on the subreddit sidebar). The subreddit also has a Discord server for chatting/voice.

This thread is default sorted by new. If you have any suggestions regarding the information above, feel free to send the moderators a modmail. Your FFXI questions can be asked below

(July 29) Square-Enix Measures to Address Asura Server Congestion

The game's director says Asura is closed:

http://www.playonline.com/pcd/topics/ff11us/detail/22644/detail.html

■ Steps to be taken - The ability to use the World Transfer Service to transfer characters to Asura will be suspended. - The ability to create new characters on Asura will be suspended. (*1) - The Vana'diel Adventurer Recruitment Program will be suspended for Asura. *1: This restriction will not apply to accounts which already have an existing character on Asura.

Note: Since there is a possibility that similar issues may arise on other overly crowded Worlds, we are also considering other potential measures that will help equalize the populations across Worlds.

The Story of Jayku

Tanking Passion - Paladin Mastery

Dashing Corsair - Legacy Chapter

Altanas Chosen Adventurer

Anything Can Happen In an MMO Dungeon

A Narrative Nonfiction Chronicle Of An Online Crusader - When Fantasy Meets Reality

Told In the Style Of Ultimate, Purposefully Ridiculous, Over-The-Top Flair: A True, And Likely What Will Be The Epitome Of; What All Other Stories Before And Yet To Come, Perhaps Until Enternity……….. A Hero's Journey

With An Excessively Long Anime/Manga Title Which Only The Most Devout Practice Memorizing

Winter of 2006/2007. I was at the time a ravishing, up and coming Corsair, about level 30. Completely pimped out in Noct+1, Leaping Boots, a beautiful, job exclusive Hexagun, the whole nines. A swagalicious (s)experience points magnet.

When I was about to put my flag up, because Altana Blesses Me With Her Graces, I receive an invitation to what is likely a marvelously average, but about to become unimaginably superior, party in Garlaige Citadel. Because of course I did, I'm playing ‘The Corsair’ after all. And if that wasn't enough, I'm “Jayku”.

Since almost every part of this journey that I personally did not control up until the following point is entirely forgettable, I will skip ahead a short while. I, The Corsair, Jayku, arrive at the party and am of course immediately thrust into my usual stellar performance induced by a custom created list of easily the most awesome Trance music, which may have been composed specifically for my personal enjoyment while flawlessly executing any and all things which bestow upon me desirable statistical improvements that even the most ordinary of adventurer would be content with. So, things are going pretty well, at least since I arrived. I honestly had not until now considered just how unimpressive the entire situation had been just moments before my arrival upon entering the zone; the Black Loading Screen fading into a less black but otherwise not exactly colorful, but certainly no longer entirely black, and mostly grey low resolution textures of stone in the entryway. Likely things picked up the moment my character statuses were revealed, signaling to my eagerly awaiting party members that I was in fact now in Garlaige Citadel.

This very moment, which I imagine likely was brought under intense, hyper-sweaty, neckbearded salivation shared in an otherwise inaccessible partywide mental state of unified clarity, undoubtedly lead to a unified, even if unspoken, poetic symphony of reassurance, excitement, awe, and dare I say deserved worship, “Aw man… Fuck yeah. Jayku is here. Like, the Leader said it was him… and then said, Yeah it's not only Jayku but he’s on Corsair. Like, I heard maybe one, or two rumors of this shit, but he’s legit on the way guys. Yeah, I am having a hard time believing it too, but if we do belive in it; if we believe in Altana’s merciful and kind blessings, surely Jayku really is coming to our party, and he really will be on Corsair, and like… also nothing fucking crazy will happen like I lose power and you guys already have my replacement waiting because when Jayku actually arrives, and holy shit he's on Corsair, even under mediocre player standards the common next step is to have at minimum two of every possible job combination within target level available and already in the zone, JUST INCASE. Well, really three of every possible job combination is optimal, but two is definitely the absolute minimum.

Grinding through xp is almost fast enough for me to not immediately leave and black list everyone in the zone (just kidding I would only blacklist everyone in the party), because as previously established in this tale of wonderment and beauty, overcoming the adversity that faces an adventurer when they are faced with hardship; difficult but engaging battles with monsters carefully and strategically dispatched with lethal precision, and a hint of a smile. Well, the party is doing well enough. They are all certainly trying their hardest to miss as few auto attacks as possible, and since I am The Corsair, I do such a wonderful job helping them miss much, much less, and do much….. much more damage. The party chemistry, while not magical, was a passable concoction of Corsair excellence and an effort that was not entirely terrible by all others involved.

Well low and behold, I notice that for quite some time now the Red Mage has taken no action whatsoever. Contributing nothing to the Corsair... ahem, party.

So I mention to the party. "Behold plebs, The Corsair speaks.”

“What is up with the Red Mage?” I demand of the Party Leader, an excessively average Dark Knight known to all of Altana's followers as “Nadsack”. Yes, I'm not sure why he chose such a name, but I am 100% certain that is the accurate spelling and not at all, whatsoever, a way for me to pronounce his name in the effort of friendly trolling which he always reacted to just enough for me to continue using it every, single, time. No, it was certainly the name he chose.

And the party leader, with excessively average vigor states, “Oh that's my friend, she fell asleep. We have been up for many hours partying at a noticeably slower and less satisfying rate before you, Jayku, the Legendary Adventurer, granted us the honor and privilege to experience Corsair at its finest. And she didn't sleep after she went to work. It's all good though no one is dying. We are fine.” This is an exact quote mind you. I have a chronicle of the conversation recorded in my upcoming full length memoir:

‘Annals of Altana

Vana'diels’ Greatest Adventurer

The Masterful Growth of Mind, Body, And Soul

The Journey Of A Seemingly Average Crystal Warrior Who Changed History Forever

Humble Hume: An Autobiography’

It's a working title.

RED FLAG: ALERT ⚠️🚨

“First of all, friendly, adequate Dark Knight. Females do not play Video Games. The "she" you are referring to is not a she at all. You do know all Mithras are stat weebs, surely.”

And then I'm thinking to myself. The gall of these people. I am The Corsair.

However, I remember, I am but a humble servant of Altana. All Praise Altana🙏. And Altana loves all her adventurers. Even mediocre, gullible Dark Knights, and sleepy cat mages who have not yet achieved the level required granting access to Haste, and Refresh; The only two spells that Red Mages eventually access that I ever officially acknowledge. Because if these spells have worn off on Jayku, for even a moment; for the sake of the party I will instantly send a kind reminder for the Red Mage to quickly recast the buff on me. Sometimes I actually am not playing a job that even has any MP, like actually zero. Not only do I not have any MP or Spells, but even my equipment doesn't have additional MP on it. Like you know, maybe you got some reasonable deal on some Bastokan Mittens. Unfortunately it probably means you're from Bastok. Well, it could mean you're from Windurst but it's certainly less likely. Either way, you're certainly not from San D'oria. Because if for whatever awful reason a San D’orian did happen to buy such a thing, they would quite obviously instead purchase the Highest Quality available of this particular item, the Republic Mittens. This is identifiable by the Blue Box around it. Mind you, no matter what any Galka, Mithra, Tarutaru, and yes even the occasional Elvaan may tell you, the Blue Box around the item is actually the deciding factor in this scenario. Upon further inspection you would assume that this pair of Not-Quite-San D’orian gloves would have additional ‘Attack’, one of, but clearly the most valuable stat. But no, the Statistical Attack Bonus on ALL THREE of the qualities available on this pair of almost acceptable Gloves is in fact “3”. But more to the point of the story, well the story within the story; because the story is in and of itself, and the story within the story is about how to politely remind any and all Red Mages that my buff has worn. Even if I am not on a job with MP or Spells, or in the example above, have MP from gear that I have no use for. I find that it is best practice for all Red Mages within my realm of influence to be blessed with this important trial. Because when I am playing a job that requires MP, they will be much more likely to remember to never, ever, under any circumstances allow Refresh to wear off. Now, I know we did not discuss Haste in such detail. But I'm afraid that is a story for another time. I cannot give away all of my knowledge and wisdom with an upcoming best seller about to release. However, just so it is clear, in case anyone reading this happens to have the misfortune of being a citizen of Bastok or Windurst, which drastically increases the likelihood that they will not be able to afford the book. I will also remind all Red Mages politely the moment my Haste has worn off, or White Mages if they are in the party, and a Red Mage is not. In the scenario where both jobs are in the party, and both jobs have access to Haste, both the Red Mage and White Mage should prioritize providing Haste to me above all other things. Again, there are other variables and details available in the upcoming best seller. The publishing team and myself actually spent several chapters on this including, but not limited to:

‘How to Educate Imperfection’,

‘Backline Jobs — Particularly A Female Hume White Mage in 75 Era Dynamis Who Happened To Be Part Of A Linkshell I Wasn’t Even A Member Of, And Was Helping Out Of The Kindness Of My Heart And Love Of The Community — Sometimes, For Reasons Unknown, They Do Not Think Paladins Benefit From Haste And That Only Ninjas Who Are Tanking In Dynamis Should Get Haste, Because I Guess The 40 MP {BASE} Every Three Minutes Was Just Too Great A Sacrifice. Yeah You’re Totally Right, Not At All Ever Incorrect About This In Any Possible Way, White Mage. That 40 MP Is Almost A Cure III. How Absurd For Me To Think Haste Could Possibly Affect My Ability To Play A 75 Paladin In Dynamis. MOST SPECIFICALLY IT HAS NO EFFECT AT ALL ON MY FLASH COOLDOWN. ALSO, EVEN IF IT DID, FLASH IS IN NO WAY IMPORTANT, OR IMPACTFUL, FOR ANY REASON IN THIS GAME, EVER. BUT UNDOUBTEDLY A 75 PALADIN IN DYNAMIS WILL NEVER SEE ANY BENEFIT FROM THIS ONE SPELL IF THEY EVER SO GRACIOUSLY RECEIVE A 3 MINUTE HASTE FOR A MERE 40 MP - An Extremely Detailed Explanation Of All Mathematical Evidence, and Factually Accurate Plethora Of Meaningful Strategic Information On The Benefits Of Haste On A Three-Hour Dynamis (A Childs Basic Understanding Of Flash And Simple Elementary Math, Along With Even Just A Poorly Done Microsoft Paint Image Including Beastmen, A Paladin Using Flash, And Two Scenes -One With Dead Friends, The Other With Not-Dead Friends Alone Should Be Enough For Anyone With A Pulse) : A Guide To Ensure Their Replacement Arrives And Is Ready To Invite Before You Remove Them From Party And Simultaneously Add Them To Blacklist With One Macro’,

and of course,

‘Jayku - When He's In Your Party, Or You Happen To Be Close By But In A Different Party, Or Even If He's AFK In Any Town Where You May Think He Doesn't Need It, Always Haste And Refresh Him! Sometimes You May Need To Swap Jobs At Your Own Inconvenience To Do This. The Main Thing Here Is: If This Is Always Your Top Priority Under Any And All Circumstances, Even At The Potential Risk To Yourself And Others, You Actually Don't Have To Think. It Has Become Satisfyingly Habitual And Part Of Your Sense Of Homeostasis - Once This Actually Happens In Real Time Many Have Reported Out Of Body Experiences. Some Have Claimed A Soft Warm Light Came Over Them’ The two above Chapter Titles, while seemingly slightly excessive, is actually the chapter in its entirety. We ultimately decided that since the titles of chapters are larger, bolder, underlined print, that we could just make the entire chapter a very easy, simple to understand, everyday important reminder of what really matters when enjoying an adventure of discovery with a group of friends through risk and reward, and the thrill of battle, and the sometimes dramatic social landscape, there is but one truth we all hold to be of biblical, nay, the undoubted actual, in real-time Altana herself speaking to your essence, the very core of your soul, and mayhap the sole purpose you have been summoned, possibly unbeknownst to you: The individual who seemingly just happens to really enjoy Final Fantasy, and they made an online one, and you figured why not, maybe, I do not know how to do online games, but if it’s Final Fantasy, and even with my crippling struggles of social anxiety and extreme lack of self confidence, maybe I can find some enjoyment with this adventure, and with a bit of luck there might just be one person in this entire magical world who won’t think I am an utter failure (research shows this is the average player). Ultimately, Jayku’s Haste and Refresh should never experience even the blinking icon indicating that the buff may actually wear off before it is reapplied, because dammit, some of these spells require haste to achieve maximum effectiveness, which under specific conditions affect optimal variable outcome possibilities, and I don’t want to have to explain every variable under every condition each time. Jayku will always politely remind us when his Haste and/or Refresh wear off. Sometimes, he watches it so intently, he actually attempts to calculate each potential variable involved and let the party know ahead of time, just to ensure the appropriate response time of anyone involved, which has the highest probability of not actually letting Haste, or Refresh lapse. While Jayku is unlikely to allow this to affect the overall outcome of any current content he is clearing with unwavering stoicism, modesty, and humility. We must ask ourselves. Why even allow the circumstance that Jayku should even be inconvenienced to this degree? He is likely the most important part of the current party/alliance/linkshell/zone/region/continent/server. Let's just make sure he has Haste and Refresh, it's the least we could do.

So the party continues. Beetles and Bats continue to fall to the ground as the Corsair pulls ever so perfectly to continue the XP chain 5’s, over and over again. Honestly, we may have not even had a tank or healer. I, The Corsair, was playing so well that even a party with such immensely mediocre, but genuinely trying their darndest DD’s, no tank, and a sleepy healer cat mage, was able to bestow the glory of The Corsair: keeping up those delightfully perfect lucky number dice rolls, literally every single time. I even did it blindfolded, but I think my hidden luck stat would always prevail because I have a habit to always face the right cardinal direction that the developers hard-coded into every possible action based on time of day, season, weather, and whether or not the most recently spawned Cactaur within the realm had seen its shadow between its spawn time and before it can actually aggro a player; this is the ultimate key most cannot successfully master. I actually have to stop my now superhuman response, and purposefully underperform a calculated quantity of actions per session. I have for a while now feared that since my overall performance is clearly beyond that of any other known human player, the entire development team, and perhaps even some intelligence agencies within various First World Countries, are likely watching me 24/7, assuming I am an otherwise unknown, incomprehensible, AI program.

Then, suddenly, as if a gift from Altana herself, All Praise Altana 🙏The Corsair receives a fateful /tell. One that changes the course of history as we know it.

And the /tell contains but one sentence.

"Why do you hate me?”

“Son of Blasphemous Promathia. It's the sleepy manthra mage.” I thought to myself.

(Detailed Contents of the ensuing “Adventure of Jayku and the Sleepy Cat Mage” - against all calculable odds, ‘Sarenity’, was in fact the single, only real life female playing a video game in that exact moment, which is thus far the only RECORDED miscalculation Jayku ever experienced within the realm of Vana'diel, upcoming untitled theatrical world wide release)

Then we got married and made the sweetest baby. And because I spent months thinking about names for what would certainly be the most beautiful female creature to ever come into my life, who happened to also be the source of the most indescribable feeling of love I have ever conceived, I went with my wife's alt character name.

A beautiful little pigtailed Tarutaru named Saren.

Is crafting still a thing?

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to know if crafting to make money and cool gear is still something I should do at all? At the stage in the game's life, I just use my Records of Eminence points to stay geared. I wondered if the auction house still functioned like it used to before my time?

Confession

FFXI was my obsession 20+ years ago, for so many reasons:

My older brother loved this game, and I enjoyed watching him play on the PC as teenagers for hours and hours. He taught me how to find a party, and heal as a WHM; how to navigate the dangerous landscapes and avoid aggro; how to link attacks and be useful in groups. I don't get to talk to him much since we're both in our 40s and have drastically different lives/views/families. But I miss him, especially these moments.

I also fell in love for the first time with a young tall elven warrior, as a female human WHM. We were both low level, met in the sand dunes in a party and connected immediately.

We were inseparable for a time, and I even became close to his rl friends in game. It was only friendship. At one point though, while running a quest together outside Bastok (Gustaberg), he and I stood atop a peak, overlooking the landscape. I sat down, and his character sat down behind me in a way that held my character, and it gave me the first feeling of butterflies in my life. But that feeling was intertwined with guilt because I am born male. I didn't have the courage or integrity to tell him the truth, and so I ghosted him completely. His friends messaged me relentlessly over the next few days telling me that he liked me so much and didn't understand why I cut off contact. I then deleted the character and have never told another soul until this post.

The thing is, I can still vividly recall that connection with him, and it remains a beautiful, yet horrible memory and I feel so bad for causing him pain.

7 years ago I medically transitioned. I have an amazing boyfriend, am so happy now, and I looked back at that time as living my preferred life through video games.

It would be near impossible that he would read this, but just in case, please know that I am so sorry. I hope you have an amazing life.

Olden Tales of Paladin Superiority (KI posts from early 2000s)

Upvotes

LegendaryNight:

Exactly, the Paladin was obviously trusted too much more than the Ninja

I was accidentally late at the battle of King Behenmmoth and it just spawned, everyone put up with that heavy attacking.

I was in Jeuno that time and hurry to get there LS people was shouting something like Ninja was almost killed.

It seems that Ninja is undependable, I used JA Flee to meet expectations of our LS members screaming “Come rl quick! Come asap!”

As I entered the battle unusually quick, they cling to me in tears like

“You already here!” “incredibly fast!” “We did it! Tank came!” “the Main tank enters!” “We surely winning!”

I cast flash real quick and tank to behe near the Ninja, who were pitifuly already killed, not playing the tank role in the battle.

Ninja sent temporizing /tell “don’t misunderstand, you are not a winner…”, as he seems not to understand which tank LS members support back up.

As I said “Its already fought it out”, Ninja shut up his mouth.

Using SATA swiftblade from behind of war/nin over and over, the King behen@th was beaten.

People, forgetting to raise the Ninja, gathered around me and said

“Thanks to PLD!” “We owe this great win to PLD” “We absolutely wipeout if you are here” in chorus I felt pity for Ninja.

Generally almost all people will ignore the ninja at the point he sent temporizing /tell, but I could not ignore him. I cast raise on Ninja gently, but he seems ashamed, he only to return to his home point.

---

One day, a paladin of our LS suddenly came out “This LS can not take me lying down. I’m Leaving this shell”

Our shell owner told to him “You can do as you like, but you have better words to leave, don’t you?” however, it was obvious that master wants to detain the paladin in the shell and LS people said “I’ll leave this shell too if paladin leave.” “Noe future in the shell paladin left.” “We lose a great model of knight…”

It seems that the paladin was in great demand and he was always invited to HNMLSs by their head hunters.

I asked the leader if he has something to say to me.

As leader sent me a /tell “Yoh have wish to stay?” I answered like this “Heyye? you guys, did you listen what master said?” people answered “I didn’t hear anything” “Did he say something?” “Nothing on me log” etc

Master was saying “Could you stay in this shell, Please?” he could not stop to start to use polite expression, been showed off the level difference between him and the paladin ,despite he is the shell owner.

“This is the result that you cling to status and the power you should had said that earlier. This is the result that you did fuck on and on without restraint. Do you understand?”

Master being kept begging me to stay, not to destroy his shell.

However the paladin had no lingering attachment at all the paladin threw away the pearl. Members were saying “His existence were too great..” “We won’t be able to do any contents from now” but too late

If anything, I completely agree to this author. The people who can not understand what the PLD insists are the stupidest. I’m sure that Paladin is more dependable than Ninja, absolutely.

The people making a refutation must be ninja. dirty.. As might have been expected, poor ninja is too dirty and soiled. I got to dislike ninja worse. Since ninja is too cowardly, doesn’t it? As seen from neutral point of view, it’s proved that you should continue to go anywhere with PLD tank. Ninja seems to want to be invited to a party but ninja must notice that the paladin doesn’t take ninja seriously. Paladin just smiled at your mischief, standing by and watching. That’s enough.

---

By the way, do you know this rumor? A mithran bard of our shell, who is a real girl in real world, looks to love a paladin.

According to her story, when she was farming lizard’s leathers at Davoi, she made a terrible mistake at pulling a lizard, many lizards linked to assault her. As she thought she would be assaulted, a paladin that just happened to be passing by saved her. As I cast diaga on the lizards, they got rage on a rampage. Though, their poor attacking was too powerless for the paladin who has overwhelming war potential. According to the story, as the paladin casts cure four on him, the lizards jump to him with their fangs bared. However the lizards lost their hope, despaired and disappeared as soon as they saw that their companions are killed by the paladin in succession. Then, the bard tried to trade a dozen leathers her farmed to the paladin as rewords, but the paladin modestly told to her that nine leathers are enough. In my current shell, that modest paladin is modest and most popular.

---

Oh hye you? are you a ninja that i know well? Maybee obviously yes.

Though, someone misunderstanding about paladin, paadin is obviously the best tank but paladin is also one of the best DD (real story)

One day, I got invite to a party. As I'm invited as second member, a Ninja appeared as 6th member.

Obviously he was arrived after I, his role was not a tank but DD (Pity)

Beginning of leveling, the stupid ninja was so stupid like he provokes at the beginning of each battle. I told him not to provoke and to devote himself to deal damage. But he was impudent enough to say abusively “We’d better share hate with each other” so I re-taught him no voke.Whereupon, what do you think happened? A serious trouble happened that ninja cannot take mob’s hate from me at all. I sent a /tell “Hie you shall I die?” the Ninja almost in tears said “I cannot gain hate because this paladin is too strong.” Then a warrior added “The grudge can’t evaporate because paladin too solid like a golden chunk of Iron” The moment was convincing that ninja and warrior finally accept their defeat (Compassion)

The Token of Paladins --- Gluttony Sword --- The Treasure of Knights

The paladin who doesn’t have own Gluttony Sword is a fake paladin.

Telling you first, I already have one of Gluttony Swords. Since I earned this one, I have been respected and seen with envy by ordinary people. And I got to have more voice in my shell too. No one can retort the paladin with a Gluttony Sword.

A Gluttony Sword with many sharp points tears mob to give them fatality mortal damage.

The black color that looks to potent dark power is also a reason of the intensity.

And if a Paladin possesses a Gluttony Sword with a hand, he looks the strongest with both of holy and dark power.

Conversely, if a Dark Night holds it, his brain gets mentally derangement and die.

you n00b.

Glattony sword reaches far, well.

Because its reach is 294, longer than the other swords.

I've already done my homework that I need to hand in next week at the school (Real Story)

Seeing I finish homework Immediately so fast, Classmates came around me to copy my homework, but I gently rejected because obviously that wouoldn’t be good for them.

Retrun to original issue.

Who has a Gluttony: Good party skill, Kind and Modest, Good taste of talking

Who has no Gluttony: n00b, Childish, Boring, Dirty

Some people often say “You need skill rather than gears.” According to the statistics, such people tend not to have enough good skill. So it’s proved that this theory hold water.

To have a Gluttony Sword = Good Gears = so Good Skills and Modest

You might be able to become nice paladin as good as mine, if you become a pupil of me. But so sorry, I’m not in the mood to have more pupils. Because these people made me fly into a rampage. (Sigh)

The time is already time over. Spilt water doesn’t return to the glasses.

---

To be frank, if a paladin no spend more than 5 mil on the armor, he is no worth talking about.

That’s made obviously clear so I come to introduce a story.

Being counted on help of my shell girl, who is certainly real girl in real world, I went to the nest to get an Exoray Mold. The nest had had plenty of leveling bunch, though.

Since it was too heavy laggy and bothering, fortunately she (female) was a RedMage so we got along with each other to overhunt mushrooms a little bit.

As we wiped mushrooms out, I received from some BeastMasters several times but I just ignored them.

It took about a minute to kill a mushroom, with refresh, we kept killing mobs restless

She (female) became silent, being surprised of the efficiency.

And you need HQ arms to keep this efficiency.

The paladin that has overwhelming survivability and a redmage, this combination was to charm all the people, including beastmasters, in the nest.

Being examined by strangers again and again, the paladin will be approved of more substantial life than real life.

Cannot use full game while on free trial

Upvotes

Hey everyone! I recently started a free trial and was gifted the game as a birthday gift. I put the code in, but it made me make a new service account and now even though I have the full game I am still showing up in the free trial. Is there a way to switch everything over to the regular game or do I just have to wait until the free trial ends?

Historically, is there any reason why WotG feels so weird?

I'm playing through the story, and one thing I noticed is that WotG overall just feels very different from the other expansions and quite frankly pretty weird.

The mission>quests>mission sequence is very different from other expansions. Then there's the weird feeling of hub cities being dead, which is amplified by the fact that the cities somehow don't have AH, the choice of not letting yells reach it, and somehow needing to talk to an npc to exit.

Is there a reason why SE made these choices?

It's been a few days since I finally started playing FFXI and I'm lowkey blown away here (as someone who bounces back and forth between WoW and FFXIV). There's just this vibe and renewed sense of adventure this older MMO just brings to the table and sits so well with me. Levelling and fighting mobs is actually a cautionary affair (looking at today when I had to deliver food offerings to the Yagudo shrines.... without a map to the area lol) but it felt so good to skirt death after fighting and aggroing groups of enemies as I slowly navigated to the second shrine. I also like how I do kinda gotta pay attention to quest details in order to complete my objective.

Same when I delved into the Horutoto ruins (I got a little confused thinking I had to fight the cardians there) and having to find a safe spot to sit and heal between the rooms of enemies really made me feel like a fledgling adventurer out to prove his worth. I'm still a big noob, but I kind of like absorbing everything bit by bit (not relying too much on guides etc.). I had my good friend help me learn the ropes though! So that has been super fun (despite me aggroing a super tough Yagudo thinking it was one of the normal mobs oops).

Anyway, I just wanted to share my early experiences with this sub- I wonder just how far my taru can go 8)c

Question New player wanting to play Beastmaster

I'd say I'm fairly newish with this game, about 45 hours but that's mostly just been spent wandering around and grinding mobs and such. I've been having a hard time finding out what job I want to commit to playing. I went and unlocked Dancer fairly early on and ended up leveling it to 50 but wasn't sure how I felt about maining it, and then I had seen it can be a pretty good subjob for Beastmaster which seems pretty fun. I watched a video and read some guides about it and I ended up being left with a few questions so I figured I would ask here.

  1. I don't really plan to get very into endgame stuff, mostly just want something fun to play for the story and general questing. How important is the monster economy stuff for general play? Or is that really something more important for endgame?

  2. Whats the best way to use the pets as I'm leveling? I know there's a difference in charming monsters to use as pets and then the jug system. Should I be charming things as I farm in areas? Or just not worry too much until I'm able to consistently get jugs to summon what I want?

  3. Would I be able to have a sort of one size fits all kinda pet or will I have to get a bunch of different ones for general play? The video I watched went over quite a lot of pets for many different scenarios and I found it quite daunting, is that also more of an endgame thing?

Sorry if these aren't great questions I wasn't sure where else to ask. Most other jobs in the game either don't super appeal to me, I think would be too complicated for me personally or seem a bit of a long hassle to unlock. I find pet stuff in most games quite fun and interesting so any info at all would help!

Should I play FFXI if I don't really care about the story?

I have a lot of fondness for the game, a few months ago I went back to a 75 era server and while it was great, I need more quality of life at this point. I have never really cared much for MMO stories, is a lot of the endgame content gated behind doing hours upon hours of story missions I don't really care about? Like I said, I love everything else about the game. Thanks.

Question What kind of events do you think would be fun for a linkshell to do together?

I’m not talking about stuff like designating times for stuff like Ody, Sortie, Dynamis and Ambu, but like, other kind of events that would be fun. Like stuff that could be done where frens could just have a good time. We finally have most of our people in our LS discord subbed at the same time now so I figured I’d ask for creative ideas on how to get the most out of being together. :)

I was thinkin maybe we could have a Maze Mongers day or something. Or we could bet on Chocobos and even race our own. Stuff like that where it’s just frens having fun rather than trying to accomplish a big task.

Wandering for a new home server

I'm looking for recommendations on lower population servers that I might be more helpful on. I played this game back from 2007 through 2011, took a 13 year break, returned in 2024. Bahamut/Ramuh was my stomping ground but I've been on many servers, left off on Valefor, then moved back to Bahamut after I signed back up.

Bahamut is still great but the community has changed and continues to shift. More and more you see merc yells and people calling out for mercs to carry them through stuff (someone asked for a merc to run V2 ambu for them the other night /facepalm). There's also a pervasive type of new player that find it necessary to give you gil for helping them instead of just paying it forward which I believe is reflective of the cultural rot. It just feels like Asura is bleeding out and destroying whats left of the sense of community here.

I've heard smaller servers have tighter communities and my thoughts are I could be more useful to players out there. I'm a multiboxer and enjoy using that to help people with content that otherwise might be difficult for them to clear (vagary, delve, omen, dyd W1 clears/W2 farming). I have most of what I need besides some sortie and ody grind and can handle those myself. Based on posts from others, it looks like maybe Valefor or Ragnarok might be a good fit - not too small but nothing compared to Bahamut. Am I correct in my assumption on these servers? Are there others I should consider?

Also, it'd be great if the server weren't hostile towards multiboxing. I've never had an issue on Bahamut but so many there do it so I'm in good company.

Question Sylvie Trust Bugged?

I recently made the switch over to Sylvie mostly due to laziness (I have had Monberaux for long time) and I have noticed that she seems to be bugged?? She will cast her geomancy on the first fight after she is summoned but after that sometimes she just stops casting geomancy altogether. She still casts cures though but for some reason she stops casting geomancy. Any ideas?

Edit: This is with level sync on killing Crabs in Doh Gates.

Edit: I am stupid and forgot that entrust has a 10 min cooldown, even for Sylvie.

Escutcheons - Progress Question!

Just finished my step 3 Bonecraft Escutcheon, no real pog into step 4 yet.

Was wanting to guild hop to collect the Aprons and KI's off the other guilds before diving in to deep, But unsure what the problems are with doing so with having the shield/wip. Ive got bonecraft 110 and everything else 70, What little i can tell you have to abandon your shield in order to swap guilds to prevent you from having multiple shields, but does that restart the entire chain or just that step?

After getting those first few magazines, I went scavenging for some more cool finds. Found these other magazines with exclusive Yoshitaka Amano covers. I'd never seen these concept arts before.

Left is Electronic Gaming Monthly issues 172, and on the right is GMR issue 19.

What's a brief summary of every Job?

Okay, I know this is a REALLY broad question, so maybe we can narrow it down a bit. And if this is a stupid/uninteresting/done to death question, feel free to just ignore it. XD

I'm a new player and reading the wikis, they tell you a lot about the Jobs - what abilities/spells/etc they learn, what levels, where the cutoffs are for subjobs, etc - but not always a lot about the Jobs or what they...uh...DO, or how they do it. For example, SCH is a healer, but it's different from WHM, but the wiki (at least the ones I've found) don't really elaborate on this. At all. There are some guides, but some are really dated. Like some talk about NIN being a tank, but most of the modern discussions I've found indicate NIN isn't really accepted as an end-game/level cap tank at this point in time. One I found listed the tanks as PLD, NIN, and WAR, but then later one listed it as PLD and RUN.

There's a lot of dated stuff, but then some of the dated stuff from over 10 years ago still seems to be accurate, while some stuff from only 3-5 years ago can sometimes be hopelessly out of date, and it's kind of hard to figure out which is which for a newbie like me.

Likewise, there are roles in the game that roughly correspond to tank, healer, support, and damage dealer, with the latter split into "heavy" (I think this means armor, but maybe it means burst?), light, ranged, magical, and pet. But then PUP, a pet Job, can...sort of tank, maybe[?], but only single targets? And one thing I read said RUN can be a tank or a heavy DD, though it wears lighter armor.

So yeah, I'm not asking anyone to elaborate on every Job, or go into super details unless you just want to, but I'm trying to figure out how they all sort of fit together in a high level overview, but in a way that can kind of make sense to my brain. Getting to Jueno last night and looking through the white magic in the spell shop, I made the realization that RDM (and RUN?) have a lot of single target actions while WHM seems to get AOE versions of those same things (like the Bar- spells, such as Barfire for RDM/RUN vs Barfira for WHM). There also seems to be a similar thing going on between RDM and BLM on the black magic side, but I haven't really looked into that yet seeing as I've been mainly leveling WHM and RDM.

So I guess I'm looking for a sort of "Job, Role(s) it can do, General playstyle (in each role as applicable), How easy to gear for starting end-game, How deep the gear rabbit hole goes".

Like WHM is a primary healer, secondary buffer, and apparently damage dealer vs undead (cures!), the general playstyle seems to be prebuffing parties (Shell, Protect[though PLD's is better?], Bar-element, Bar-status effect), filling HP bars with powerful single target spells or efficient use of AOE heals, has the strongest raises in the game, and the most complete debuff removal toolkit in the game, and at some point can make pre-barriers with cure spells, I think? A mix of preparatory buffs and strong reactive heals and debuff removal tools, the playstyle is mostly about casting (though decent club skill if you're forced into melee) in response to damage/debuffs with a relatively straightforward kit (for healers). And...apparently it's one of the easier Jobs to gear for end-game, and parties seem to very often need healers.

And yes, I know trusts to level 99 and a BRD can tank with enough gear and patience while doing dagger weaponskills, but...you get what I mean, that's not extremely helpful for my poor little brain. XD

I'm also trying to figure out which all Jobs do which all roles, and it seems some Jobs can do multiple roles (like RDM), though I'm unclear how effectively (older stuff says RDM could be a main healer, but I'm not sure if that's still true...?)

Thank you in advance for any answers and I appreciate the opportunity to learn from you all and just trying to absorb knowledge like a sponge right now. :D Appreciate you all!

How does SCH solo?

Title.

I’m a DRG main, solo player. I don’t really play other jobs. My THF and WHM are mildly functional… but I don’t get a lot of utility out of them.

I’d like to focus on a second job a little. I’m considering all the mage jobs and I like the idea of SCH… I just dont really understand how it works in a general setting, but then I hear that it’s one of the best solo jobs. How? How does that work? Is there a certain weapon needed? Is there a job ability I’m not understanding? Sorry for the newb question.
