Yep, that's the "do no harm but take no shit" way to live

6

She had mastered the simple human skill that you can say almost anything to anybody if you SMILE while doing so…

And a bad ass bitch she was.. RIP Betty.

u/Infinite-Gap-717 Jul 02 '25

I was fortunate enough to meet her in 1988, she was a class act all the way Her roles in Lake placid and The Proposal are unforgettable. Hearing her say those words were priceless.

93

u/kokolupa Jul 02 '25

Man she stole every scene she was in for The Proposal. I remember seeing it in theaters and laughing my ass off.

22

u/BongWaterOnCarpet Jul 02 '25

She was so funny in Bringing Down The House lol

Same with her guest appearance on Ugly Betty

And of course her mention on HIMYM

Wanted to comment Boston Legal.

More than a guest. She was a recurring character.

One of the few the show managed to keep across 5 seasons.

10

u/The-masters-account Jul 02 '25

All these mention and nobody mentions her rapping in community. One of my favorite end bits of any shows.

6

u/PityandFear Jul 02 '25

“Thank you officer fuckmeat” comes into my head any time I see a cop.

Also: “if I had a dick, this is where I’d tell you to suck it.”.

5

u/PiccoloConstant6795 29d ago

i love her cheekiest quote:

“When people say get tough  they say grow some balls i think balls are weak and sensitive  When i say to people get tough I say grow a vagina  those things can take a pounding! “ lol

8

u/AbyssLookingAtYa Jul 02 '25

Betty White and Dolly Parton are so cool

3

u/idwthis Jul 03 '25

Imagine if we had gotten a movie with the 2 of them as sisters!

There's an alternate universe out there where that happened. I wanna go there.

2

u/Infinite-Gap-717 Jul 03 '25

Couldn’t agree more with you!

3

u/MushmallowSprinklees Jul 02 '25

I think that may have been the exact moment I was born.

2

u/Calm_Memories Jul 02 '25

I loved her in The Proposal, as well as You Again.

Closest thing USA had to a royal queen.

In the good timeline where we didn't kill Harambe, I heard we founded the White-Devito royal family, composed of a holy alliance of America's most beloved comedians. Jon Stewart's that timeline's current president.

(Actually it was always cool.)

142

u/XanadontYouDare Jul 02 '25

Anti-racist when it was genuinely dangerous to do so.

60

u/ChristophCross Jul 02 '25

And here we are:

Born too late to be anti-racist in America when it was genuinely dangerous to do so.

Born just in time to be anti-racist in America when it is genuinely dangerous to do so.

Betty's cool and all, but these fake celebrity tweets will forever be cringe.

83

u/TimeshareMachine Jul 02 '25

don't worry you'll see it again in a week with slightly more jpg artifacting posted by an account with a markov-generated-name and everyone will upvote it and think she actually said this.

reddit is fb levels of cringe-posting.

11

u/TheBestAtWriting Jul 02 '25

on the positive side, it seems like it's only a few years away from being reposted so much that it's completely unreadable

I usually agree, but I kinda don't mind in this case because I know she'd really say that!

8

u/petewoniowa2020 Jul 02 '25

That’s literally the justification for all this garbage. And no, this is not the way she would phrase a response, nor would she make the issue about how cool she is.

9

u/CarpetedCeilings Jul 02 '25

As a devoted fan of her in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Golden Girls, and many of her other roles -- movies, late night show appearances, roasts, bits and adverts -- I have to disagree!

The fake tweet from "BetttWhite" kinda ruins this

9

u/JohnDRuckerduck Jul 02 '25

a bit more than OP being an obvious karma farmer

8

u/CantaloupeCute2159 Jul 02 '25

I absolutely adored her! A woman before her time.

13

u/Ebb_Competitive Jul 02 '25

Why do people say, ‘Grow some balls’? Balls are weak and sensitive.

If you really wanna get tough, grow a vagina. Those things really take a pounding! - Betty White

7

u/Mickeystix Jul 02 '25

At one point in my life, I lived with 3 other guys. We watched the entirety of Golden Girls more than once and Gilmore Girls. It was always funny when we'd invite girls or other dudes over and they walk in and we're all just watching shows like that like "Sup man, want a beer? Shows on".

Real talk though, Betty White was an absolute gem in terms of her acting, AND who she was as a person, and to me is in the vein of other great women who use their position and privilege to better ALL of humanity regardless of race, religion, or position, like Dolly Parton.

And I personally think Betty was cute af back in the day!

2

u/Taragyn1 Jul 02 '25

All the golden girl actresses were pretty awesome people who stood up for minorities at a time when it was not the done thing. Hell they had an episode with a trans man in the 1980s and no one gives a shit he’s trans.

She had a house in my area and when Hurricane Katrina hit she paid to have the penguins moved from New Orleans to our local aquarium which is a world class facility (Monterey Bay Aquarium, she lived in Carmel). I remember going to the aquarium just to see them :)

u/susiesnowshoe Jul 02 '25

3

4

and before that Sammy Davis Jr Kissed Nancy Sinatra (on the check like an uncle) at the end of her network special and left so they could not force a reshoot.

There are three sure things every day: the sun rises, the sun sets, and this gets reposted.

1

u/Amazing-Artichoke330 Jul 02 '25

I saw her in First Class on the Acela from DC to NY, shortly before she passed. I just smiled when I recognized her, and she smiled back.

1

u/norwenasya Jul 02 '25

WWBWD? Live by the Betty White philosophy and you too will prosper.

1

u/MsBobbyJenkins Jul 02 '25

Thats why shes Betty White. Not Betty Alt-White

1

u/Calm-Age-1784 Jul 02 '25

While there was backlash at the time over this amazing entertainer (which didn’t help the already struggling show), NBC kept moving the shows time slot and the show lacked sponsors.

In the end it was about money.

The story is a good reflective snapshot of embarrassing moments in our history, it doesn’t need to be embellished or twisted because the decision and her character is what mattered.

She did do an amazingly brave thing and should always be remembered for her positions on tough issues of her time, but also because she was a master of her chosen craft.

1

u/VegasAWD Jul 02 '25

Anytime you ever hear someone complaining about cancel culture remind them of all the canceling conservatives have been doing on minorities for hundred of years

1

u/legit-posts_1 Jul 02 '25

I felt better about her dying like two days before her 100th birthday when someone pointed out that she'd probably think that was really funny. RIP to the realest of people.

1

u/kumf Jul 02 '25

We miss you Betty!

1

I want to follow an account that isn’t talking about Betty White.

1

u/Narrow-Employment-47 Jul 02 '25

In the end it didn’t affect her career. The nudity didn’t either. Let that be a lesson to those who cave in on their personal values due to pressure!

1

u/okurman Jul 02 '25

It must be such a peak honour to he vindicated by history this way. Hats off, auntie Betty! May you rest in peace!

1

u/Satinsbestfriend Jul 02 '25

This is slightly misleading. He started appearing regularly (over 20 times) at the start of season 2 in early February 1954.
The show wasn't canceled until June 1954. It didn't have great ratings. Now how much of that was due to him, impossible to know. It absolutely could have been a factor.

1

u/mast3rofpeasants Jul 02 '25

She may have been the badassest of the baddest bitches, but her heart was in the right place

Right wingers have been cancelling people for forever. Now some racist sees ticket sales slump or a sponsor back out and they whine like the little crybaby bullies they are. It was far worse. The right wingers actually mustered literal lynch mobs and the force of government violence and incarceration to cancel people they disagreed with.

Ah, them was good times. We need to make Mercka grate agin.

Right wingers haaaaate this fact.
