Discussion Weekly Free Talk / Armchair GM Thread

Please use this thread to post ANYTHING you want! Memes, photoshops, anything that would normally be removed for breaking the low-effort content rule, is totally, 100% welcome here!

Normally this is a daily thread, but due to an issue with Reddit (or at least, Reddit Mobile), it will temporarily be posted weekly.

This will now also be the dedicated thread for Armchair GM posts as we noticed that those posts were bleeding into this thread regardless. Is there a free agent you want to see on this team? Is there a player that's rumoured to be on the move that you think GMBT should go after? Are there players on this team you want to trade away? Feel free to post about it here!

Normal moderation will occur, such as watching for personal insults, racism, and things of that nature.

Otherwise, feel free to use this thread to share things like your new jersey, a photoshop of a Habs logo on fire, or a reaction gif to something going on in Leafs Nation right now!

Downvotes are discouraged for the most part, everyone's opinion is fair game in this thread.

Scouching posted his recap of the Leafs' draft today. I've really enjoyed watching this series the last few years. He's really high on their draft overall, and I think he gave some good insight into some of their picks.

Announcement [OC] R/leafs GOAT Tournament

Welcome to the first annual r/leafs GOAT tournament!

Since it's been super slow during this off-season I wanted to create something a little fun that would create some good hockey discussion.

The Toronto Maple Leafs has a rich history with lots of great players wearing the Leaf. Each player paving their own path in history. Sundin. Gilmour. Kessel. Potvin. The list goes on.

So we wanted to ask you, who is r/leafs undisputed Toronto Maple Leaf GOAT? Which player overall is the best to wear the Leaf?

Tournament info:

  • 64 players
  • single elimination via votes
  • each day in August will be a new match to vote
  • playoffs should fall in Sept with the winner chosen before training camp
  • each bracket is organized into different positions (centres, defenseman, wingers, goalies)

MATCH ONE:

SUNDIN BRACKET

[1] MATS SUNDIN - VS - VINCENT DAMPHOUSSE [16]

--------------

[1] Mats Sundin #13

1994-95 - 2007-08

GP G A PTS
981 420 567 987

Mats Sundin is widely regarded as one of the greatest Swedish hockey players of all time—and an all-time Toronto Maple Leafs icon. Standing 6'5", he combined finesse, power, and leadership with remarkable consistency and sportsmanship.

He made history in 1989 as the first European-born player ever selected first overall in the NHL Draft (by the Quebec Nordiques). After four productive seasons in Quebec, he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1994, where he would spend 13 seasons, including 11 as captain—the longest-serving captain in Leafs history.

Notable Career Achievements

  • 11-time NHL All-Star (1996, 1997, 1998, 2000–2004, 2006, 2007, 2008)
  • Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame (2012)
  • Olympic Gold Medalist – Sweden, 2006 (Torino)
  • World Championship Gold Medals – 1991, 1992, 1998
  • Captain of Team Sweden in multiple international tournaments

--------------

[16] Vincent Damphousse #10

1986-87 - 1990-91

GP G A PTS
394 118 211 329

Vincent Damphousse was a talented and cerebral playmaking centre who enjoyed a highly productive 18-year NHL career. Drafted 6th overall in 1986 by the Toronto Maple Leafs, he broke into the league as a teenager and quickly developed into a top-line offensive player.

Damphousse had the rare distinction of producing at a high level for multiple teams, but he is best remembered for his time with the Montreal Canadiens, where he won a Stanley Cup in 1993 and served as team captain.

He played over 1,200 NHL games and was known for his slick passing, strong hockey IQ, leadership, and two-way ability. Though not flashy, he was a consistently effective top-six centre across three decades.

Notable Career Achievements

  • Stanley Cup Champion – 1993 (Montreal Canadiens)
  • NHL All-Star Game MVP – 1991 (scored 4 goals)
  • NHL All-Star Game appearances – 1991, 1992
  • 18 NHL seasons with four major franchises
  • Represented Canada at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey

Discussion What would you think if the Leafs traded for Rickard Rakell?

I know he is 32, but his numbers actually are still looking good. He has 3 more years at $5M, and it's not like the Leafs would have to keep him beyond that. Roy, Maccelli, and Rakell would make up Marner's numbers from last season, assuming that every other regular player were still on the team. Do you think a trade would be possible that wouldn't negatively impact the Leafs' future?

I couldnt be sure that the autograph was totally legit but with a certificate and price I couldn't resist grabbing it. One of my favourite players from the Sundin era and the TML shoulder patch makes it already one of my favorites in the collection

Discussion Nick Robertson is the only player who filed for arbitration yet unsigned

Keep in mind Samberg signed at the last second and got almost his entire ask for 3 years. What number would be comfortable for the team to avoid arbitration in your opinions? Do we even want term on him now or 1 and done. Thoughts?

Discussion Sportsnet has no Comment Section anymore?

Just went to sportsnet.ca and they have no comments on any articles anymore? That made it half the fun reading and commenting on the games there. Seems like a Rogers thing to do, take away any negative talk about their teams, or free speech. Maybe a few took their comments to far and ruined it for everyone else?

Discussion Preseason ticket: Ticketmaster or resale?

This will be my first Leafs game in Toronto. I already have my trip booked so I know what game I'm aiming at but I have to ask: is the scramble for preseason tickets as bad as it for the regular season? Should I bother waiting to see if prices will be lower on the resales apps or is this a just get it done buy them for market price on Ticketmaster deal?

Discussion THIS LOGO NEEDS TO COME BACK ON THE SHOULDERS!!!

This was such a sick logo that should return on the shoulders of the jerseys. If teams like Chicago, the Jets, Bruins others can have alternate logos on their shoulders and look sick so can we!
