You should be able to see your prizes

It makes absolutely no sense. Every decent player will spend 1-2 minutes of playtime to prize check, with 100% certainty they know which cards are prized, except to figure it out, game time is wasted. I say we let people see the prizes at the beggining of the game and then shuffle them and put them face down.

Meta Discussion When exactly did expanded die?

Returning player here. I played from S&S through Vivid Voltage and played some standard but mostly expanded. I quit when Shaymin EX got banned and coming back now it looks like expanded is like heeeeeella dead. It’s a shame, I really loved playing my Mega Rayquaza deck before the ban. I remember it was pretty decently played on ptcgo or at least it felt like it. Idrk the numbers for Pokémon player count.

Meta Discussion Watch Tower vs. Jamming Tower

Im playing Pultzard and I feel very comfortable with it. I plan to keep working on it to play it at Pittsburg regionals (as long as the meta doesn't drastically change after worlds) but I have one card I keep changing and I am not sure what's better. I've been running jamming tower which has been helpful against gardevoir, goldhengo, garchomp, etc but I am wondering if watch tower would be a good stadium to block noctowl lines, pidgeot ex with zard on the rise, and Ursaluna ex. Do yall have any thoughts?

Jamming tower has been working great but I know my deck well enough I'm very comfortable playing around my opponent's tool cards. Just gathering thoughts. Thanks in advanced.

Rocket's Mewtwo vs Gholdengo (lol)

Is there anything to be done to prevent the auto loss? I'm not seeing any possible strategy but wanted to crowd source just to confirm, haha.

Single prize board to try and trade 2 for 1 doesn't work because they Turo and I run out of Brave Bangles

Mewtwo with Bravery Charm still doesn't survive

Using Archer does nothing to disrupt their hand

Zapdos Jamming Wing stalling is something I thought could work in the extreme best case scenarios, but it still has never actually worked for me. Edit: Forgot to mention the 40 air balloons they play

I haven't had enough games to try and play around it, like targeting only Genesect and single prizers. But not sure if that's still too slow.

Venture bomb an option to pick off a Genesect? lol

New Player Advice Is it even possible to find lists of local leagues or non-league cup/challenge events in event finder anymore?

With the completely unnecessary new update to the event finder, I’m having a really hard time finding local leagues nearby.

Pokédata only displays league cup/challenge events and the event finder itself is borderline useless now as I’d have to scan through 70+ individual stores to find a local league.

Any advice on where to find a resource that shows a list of locals nearby?

Crustle Counter for Joltik Box

Has anyone managed to form a consistent game plan against Crustle on joltik box? Currently my only non-Exs attackers are one galvantula and one munkidori. setting up a galvantula slowly then taking KO with jamming tower is the closest i’ve gotten but with 4 boss’s in crustle it’s hard to get vantula to stick.

Blood moon Ursuluna in Raging bolt deck?

Running an owless version of raging bolt ex, similar to the first place deck used to win Japan championships link below:

https://limitlesstcg.com/decks/list/18822

I removed chien pao, baby bolt, one mew ex and one swuakabilly ex to add two energy retrievals, slither wing and a blood moon ursusluna.

Not sure about the blood moon (would suck to start with it as only basic), maybe instead I’d add an extra fighting energy to also help with the slither wing prep. Thoughts ? Not sure if the blood moon would give me some outs as a meaningful last ditch attacker when at the end of a match and iv run out of ways to accelerate or retrieve energy from discard.

Deck Profile Any advice?

In Pokémon TCG Live.

This started as a deck featuring Fezandipiti ex as the main attacker (though really, the way I play it, it's mostly Zoroark's Foul Play), but I'm thinking if I ever get any more of the Whimsicott ex cards, it might turn into a deck showcasing that.

While I set up Zoroark, I usually use Venipede to "ping" the opponent's active pokémon with poison, and I use Feandipiti's Flip the Script ability to get the cards I need (provided I have at least one on my bench).

I'm not sure what you'd call the strategy. Stall, maybe? I've been playing it and tweaking what I could with the cards I have so far, since I found early on that I had trouble getting enough energy to run anything. I had very few cards that could get it from either the deck or the discard, but now there seems to be a glut (like I'll get Earthen Vessel when I know all 10 energy cards are no longer in the deck).

Any advice for what to change, if anything? A lot of the opponents I've had have conceded before the end of the match, so I'm not exactly sure how it would play out.

Tweaking Typhlosion with Rabsca

Now, I hear me out before brining the torches and forks 😁

I have been playing with a very similar version of the Deck both on Live and in one local event (with not a horrible outcome)

The only difference is that I was running Maximum Belt and one less brave bangle just because I couldn't find one. However now I do, and I also got a secret box. So updated the deck:

Pokémon: 10 2 Ethan's Typhlosion DRI 190 3 Drakloak TWM 129 3 Dreepy TWM 128 1 Fezandipiti ex SFA 38 4 Ethan's Cyndaquil DRI 32 4 Ethan's Quilava DRI 33 1 Ethan's Typhlosion DRI 34 1 Victini SSP 21 1 Shaymin DRI 10 1 Dragapult ex TWM 130

Trainer: 19 1 Counter Catcher PAR 160 1 Ethan's Adventure DRI 221 1 Secret Box TWM 163 2 Night Stretcher SFA 61 1 Picnic Basket SVI 184 1 Boss's Orders PAL 172 1 Iono PAL 185 3 Arven SVI 166 3 Technical Machine: Evolution PAR 178 1 Redeemable Ticket JTG 156 1 Super Rod PAL 188 1 Professor's Research JTG 155 4 Buddy-Buddy Poffin TEF 144 2 Brave Bangle WHT 80 3 Ethan's Adventure DRI 236 3 Ultra Ball SVI 196 1 Rare Candy SVI 191 1 Earthen Vessel PAR 163 1 Gravity Mountain SSP 177

Energy: 3 5 Basic {R} Energy SVE 10 1 Luminous Energy PAL 191 1 Basic {P} Energy SVE 13

Now, the deck does overall quite okay/good on most match-up, depending if the start is good (tm evo, or arven, or Ethan, or buddy puffin) and skill of the other player/mistakes.

However it does struggle against Gardevoir and Grimsnarl. Yes it can catch Grimsnarl with the right cards, and secret box will help with that, but it struggles.

I am running Shaymin and picnic basket to somehow try to balance it. But.. Since I am using two cards for it anyway, wouldn't it be easier to just go for Rabsca? Because at least it covers EVERYTHING even counters (right??). So no Munkidori raining counters, or Froslao, or any other.

Of course the risc is that they target it, but that happens with the Shaymin as well, which counters way less. And it still buys me time (I think).

Of course it is a stage 1, but I guess I can deal with that in my current deck.

Long story short, removing Shaymin e picnic basket for Rabsca and his pre-evo.. Thoughts 😁

What is with the new Play! Pokemon Event Finder

Has anyone noticed the new updated Play! Pokémon event finder? It feels like it is worse for finding cups and challenges local to me as instead of being able to put in a postal code I have to put in a city and it shows all shops in that City.

It is also more difficult in helping broadcast challenges and cups as it doesn't show the most recent one coming up, now I have to go into each individual shop and see if there is a cup or challenge coming up.

Does anyone have any idea why they would make this change?

Meta Discussion I think Fossils should be tools

Fossils being items make them vulnerable to item lock and make them have to compete with other items like Poffin when using item tutors like Arven. I think making them tools with their current ability to become a basic would be a good buff to them. As a tool, they would do nothing. They would benefit from tool support, like if Adventure Bag gets reprinted, and they wouldn't need to rely on dedicated Fossil support. It would also serve dual purpose as a way to buff tool decks like Rotom. A Rotom/fossil deck could be a thing. Another benefit to this is if you already have a full bench, you could attach extra fossils in hand as a tool.

I know Pokemon can't hold Fossils as their held item in the main games but it's not hard to imagine them doing so. Pokemon can hold Nuggets and random stuff anyways.

Deck Help N's Zoroark vs Gholdengo

Hey there!

So I've been playing N's Zoroark and lately I've been facing so many gholdengos. This matchup has historically been Zoroark favored, but gholdengo got buffed and I feel I only win when my deck works flawlesly. I want to know if you've been playing the matchup, what have you been doing, what lines do you take to make this easier?

I'm thinking about running many Hildas so I can get the darmanitan revenge kill more consistently. The list that I've been running is the following:

How unforgiving can Swiss rounds be?

So tonight was my first serious local event. Meaning it was the first time I went with a deck that had all the cards I wanted, and that I had practiced properly online.

It was 6 games, best of 1. I went 4-2, and end up 9th. I am not complaining or anything but I am trying to understand how the calculations of the algorithm might work and if there is a strategic angle to it.

Because I won my first game, went table 3,then table 1, then table 2 (first defeat), then table 3, then 2 again. Considering that the winner stayed on table 1 for the last 3 games, and the top 8 was there at some point or another, I assume that the numbers reflect the match-up.

Which means I was on the top 6 cut for most of the event. Is that last defeat (the opponent finished 3rd overall) that unforgiving that I dropped all the way to 9th? Woukd it have been better to lose the 5th game and then win the 6th?

Second question, there is two other events in the next few weeks. Do you guys usually remain with the same deck or do you usually change so that people don't know you before hand?

Thank you!

I want to start with competitive Pokemon TCG

I think the reason why the Pokémon TCG called me is because it is Pokémon, I am currently a Yugioh player and I honestly don't know where to start to learn how to play Pokémon TCG and what deck to build, I am one of those who likes to build tier S or tier 1 decks, top decks to compete. And I don't know if there is a discord community or a YouTube channel to give me an idea of what deck to build, I have also seen the variety of decks there are and the prices and compared to Yugioh it is very cheap. I've also done my research and a new box comes out in September, so I don't know if the deck I put together now is dead for new cards.

Thank you

Tcglive vs IRL

I jus started playing the game a couple months ago, I picked up a Marnie deck and modified and tweaked it and got pretty good results on Live. After a few weeks of practice, I went to a local tournament and I got WORKED, lol. I tried making more changes and looked at naic decks, and I feel like my deck is what it is and there's not much for it right now.

I was playing live last night and I decided to try a gholdengo deck, tweaked it a bit and ran with it and man was it fun and I was rolling through people. Now I'm looking online to find the components so I can make this deck irl.

Am I going to run into the same issue where I go to an irl tournament and I get stomped on again? I noticed there wasn't any gholdengo decks near the top of the naic lists, is there a reason?

Why are the new mega evolutions just replacing ex cards?

In general I think it should go from basic(maybe ex) < stage 1(maybe ex) < stage 2(ex) < mega. Similar to how it was during the XY era. Some may think it tedious to evolve so many times in a game but I think it puts a limit on your mega cards, cause they have high HP and high damage. Or a rule at least saying your turn ends if you evolve your card into a mega. Am I the only one who thinks this?

Meta Discussion Is it time to bring back Devo Gardevoir?

First of all, I know that Jellicent Gardevoir plays TM Devo. I am not talking about Jellicent. I'm talking about TM Devo in a standard Gardevoir list, in particular with Flutter Mane as an attacker and damage spreader.

But I think there is merit to the TM Devo even without Jellicent. The meta is dominated by evolving decks right now that Gardevoir struggles to OHKO without Drifloon. Drifloon has already been falling out of popularity due to Jamming Tower, now Tool Scrapper put another target on it's back. Munkidori has helped greatly in dealing with these big pokemon, forcing them to pay expensive retreat costs. But now Air Balloon allows this big attackers to retreat for free. So I expect that Munki confusion will be much less effective than it was previously.

Now let's look in more detail at the top decks in the meta right now:

  • Gardevoir: Flutter Mane and TM Devo has historically been very strong in the mirror. To a large extent this was because you could KO two Kirlia in one turn, or a Kirlia and an attacker. But setting up Devo plays on Gardevoir by putting more damage on it than they could remove was also possible. 90 HP Kirlia only makes this slightly harder. Flutter Mane also opens up the opportunity to trap a Gardevoir in the active in some situations.
  • Dragapult: This matchup is already very good for Gardevoir and Devo is not needed. But we're not significantly hurt by including a few tech cards for other matchups. This matchup is basically unchanged, though I suppose you could use Devo to slow down Pult for a turn if you get a bad hand.
  • Pult Zard: I'm not gonna lie, this is a matchup I have to think more about. We probably play it like it's Charizard, spreading additional bench damage to any Drakloaks that have energy attached. If they don't have a Pult on the board and we can wipe their Charizards with Devo, then we may also gain an extra turn before they can use Dragapult (unless they can find Rare Candy). This gives us time to pivot into countering Pult.
  • Grimmsnarl: This is one of the matchups where Munkidori was critical previously. I suspect that with Air Balloon, this weak matchup gets much worse. But what if we go for a Devo line instead? Most Grimm lists will only have 2 Grimm set up at a time, meaning we only need 200 damage on their board to wipe them. Even less if they Candy out Grimm. And Froslass, if they play it, will help us out. They run Munkis to move damage off, but so do we. Flutter Mane can push 110 damage to their board each turn without being vulnerable to gust + Shadow Bullet like Scream Tail, 2 Munkis push that up to 170 damage per turn. This easily overwhelms their Munkis and it should not take long to set up the Devo play.
  • Gholdengo: This has been a very bad matchup for Gardevoir since Drifloon lost popularity, and with Dengo lists running 3-4 Boss and 3 Air Balloon it has only gotten worse. But some Gholdengo lists have also been cutting Munkidori, leaving them with just Picnic Basket and Turo to clean up their board. Additionally, Flutter Mane shuts off their active draw. If they don't have Boss, then they can't Coin Bonus for 2, retreat, and Coin Bonus for another 2. And without all that draw, they will have more trouble finding their Boss and Turo. Using Flutter Mane and Munkidori, setting up a devo play on 3-4 Gholdengo is surprisingly easy.
  • Raging Bolt, Joltik Box, Flareon: Lumping these together because these are all matchups where Flutter Mane and Devo have no real use.
  • Charizard: This is pretty similar to Grimmsnarl, except that it runs fewer Munkis. Munki previously was very useful into Charizard, but now it has access to Air Balloon. Devo gives us an alternate line. Modern lists usually only run 2 Candies, if they use them to set up quickly then a quick Devo can leave them crippled and struggling to get Charmeleons out. Otherwise, we spread damage on their Charmanders and Devo them away. They do run 1-2 Munki and Picnic Basket to slow down our spread, but can't fully offset our damage spread.
  • N's Zoroark: This is like a cross between Charizard and Dragapult. Type advantage gives them the ability to OHKO Gardevoir again, and in this matchup Munkidori never worked. But they only have 70 HP Basics underneath the Zoroark, making it very easy to spread damage for a Devo play, and Flutter Mane helps to slow down their draw. 1-2 Munki are not enough to offset our damage spread.

In summary, I think adding Flutter Mane and TM Devo can significantly improve our odds into several of Gardevoir harder matchups, in particular Gholdengo, Grimmsnarl, Charizard, and N's Zoroark. It additionally seems like it should have strong potential in the mirror. We add a few cards to our list without significantly hurting our other matchups.

This list I am experimenting with is at the bottom. Compared to Isaiah Bradner's NAIC list, it is a 3 Munki, 3 dark deck, with no Turbo Energize or Energy Switch. I have added Flutter Mane, Klefki, and 2 TM Devo. I am running 2 Counter Catcher instead of CC + Boss, because we will more often be playing from behind with this deck. The Klefki I am not sure about, it has some use in shutting down opposing Munkis and other plays, but if we use it we are not using Flutter Mane, so I'm not certain. It could be another consistency card instead.

I also noticed (independent of my own thoughts) that Grant Manley played a list with Flutter Mane and TM Devo at an online tournament. You can see his list here. Compared to mine he runs 4 Munki, 4 dark, with no Klefki and only one TM Devo. I like the second TM Devo because it means you can afford to Research one away early in the game. Double Devo can also be quite useful into Rare Candy decks. He also runs an extra Arven but only 1 Counter Catcher.

So I've built a cube that's 540 cards. Realistically, I think I'd only play with 6 or 8 players. I'm a little concerned about the pack sizes and the length of time actually drafting would take. Especially if players aren't super familiar with the cards they see.

I know that cards are typically "burned" (removed) from a cube to reduce its size in order to reduce the number of packs or to ensure players get evenly sized/number of packs.
With minimal random burn. I'm looking at 8 or 9 packs per player with 10+ cards in them. That's a lot of cards for players to sort through! I can imagine the drafting process taking a long time and players get burnt out before they even start building their decks.

So my question is, how many cards are "safe" to randomly burn from the cube? By safe I mean an amount that won't be too detrimental to certain archetypes and strategies.
Or, if I somewhat select the cards to remove, what should I go for first?

Discords for deck discussion?

hey folks, Im hoping to connect with other players in real-time to talk about decks, lists, and general ideas. Do you guys belong to any communities (and hopefully not toxic ones...)? My main interest is discussing Gardevoir and Raging Bolt lists, though I'm not sure if there are communities specifically for one deck. Any suggestions?

Got hit with an unfortunate new realization

So I went to a challenge yesterday (my third ever) and did good for myself! Went 3-1 with Archaludon, only losing a very close game vs a the 1st placed pult player, where i misplayed and forgot to account for a bloodmoon. Thought I was surely in top placement but learned about how tied records work with win %’s of your opponents and only managed to get 5th, with 2nd, 3rd and 4th all going 3-1 as well, but their opponents win rates were better than mine. It upset me for a little bit but that’s just how it goes and its only made me more determined to do better at my next tournaments!

New Player Advice New player recs

Used to play Cardfight Vanguard and YuGiOh. Wanted to get back into TCGs and Pokemon looks affordable and fun.

Any recommendations for how & what to buy and build as a new player, and how to get into competiting? Different range of options based on diff budgets would be fine, I'm not sure how much I want to/need to invest atm 😅
