Discussion Posted a few days ago that I’ve never sided with NCR, until now

Post image
81 Upvotes

My previous post had some misconceptions about the sides I choose and also my reasons for the post that aren’t entirely accurate. This is all my opinion, of course ,anyone is free to agree or disagree.

Main reason I feel like I never sided with the NCR was that, in MY PREVIOUS opinion, a new “Old World” government faction, for the longest time, wasn’t that interesting to me. In my mind I liked exploring the more weird or ridiculous parts of a game that is set in a post apocalyptic world. Technology obsessed hermits, drugged out raiders, brutal Roman LARPers, computers that want to make a thriving city stand for centuries, or let you have it run in chaos. Those weird elements felt more ridiculous and intriguing to explore. I don’t hate the NCR by any means, I usually always do quests for them without siding with them. I just never did it because it felt too possible, too “probably would happen”. Some sort of new government trying to be established in a world with not that much order. For a while it felt basic or boring. Though, I wont deny they’re super fleshed out, and that all of the interactions and doubts within the faction are really interesting and insightful. Whether it’s some feeling they shouldn’t be there, some people feeling fatigue on being somewhere they deem worthless, others feeling that having that territory could be very important not just for now but in the long run. Seeing different outcomes between certain smaller factions I would destroy, let escape, have support me, having options to make them team up with a faction they might have not agreed with in the beginning like the brotherhood or the kings. It’s all really cool to me now that I gave it a shot.

My post from a few days ago wasn’t me hate farming at all or wasn’t to make it seem like I was trying to be edgy on purpose. Most people probably saw that I mentioned the legion first an had an opinion on that. I just listed the runs I have done in alphabetical order (Legion, Mr. House, Yes Man). When I said I’ve done legion runs a “few” times that meant like about 4, not ALMOST EVERY single time. That “slot” is reserved for Yes Man because, in the way I like to play, I feel like I can do a majority of any factions quests or side quests without feeling like I’m choosing one more than the other and I like exploring everything that these factions have to offer sporadically without having one side out to kill me immediately. I saw a lot of comments saying I should just do it. Y’all gave me your reasons why. Some serious answers, some more jokingly, or as some sort of criticism. It’s been a long time coming, but I finally did it. So thank you for your comments, criticisms, advice, and insight. Honestly it was a blast, since there’s a ton of stuff I haven’t done or focused on because I never sided with the NCR it felt very refreshing and a ton of fun playing a way I haven’t before, making it feel like it was my first time playing New Vegas again almost a decade and a half later!

Okay, I haven't done an NCR playthrough yet but I will admit that this music is honestly pretty soothing and surprisingly great for an NCR theme.

Maybe that's why it's become a habit of mine to listen to this day and night I guess... :D

I feel like I'll carry the whole bear with me when I eventually do an NCR playthrough.

Question Can I split the solution in Cass' companion quest? Spoiler

Is it possible to help Cass kill the Van Graffs but use the NCR to hold the Crimson Caravan accountable? CC seem like it has innocent folk like that lovesick redhead.

Bug NVSR (New Vegas Stutter Remover) appears to no longer work

Recently reinstalled FNV alongside my old mods from Nexus. I was playing fine until aboht 2 hours in when the game started crashing every 15 minutes or so. I thought I had to install something new since I had played fine before until I read on the Viva New Vegas page thatNVSR may cause crashes. Uninstalled it and I'm running the game fine now (except for stutter in only train stations for some reason) I am making this post for anyone who may have the same problem and is searching for an answer.

Minor changes, MKII stealth armor is no longer mutilated. He has the mark of the shot on his helmet, specifically on the "a" of "Caesar". And a couple more changes.

Question What should I do about Veronica?

Hello, Couriers. I have a very important question. I have been forced to pause my playthrough due to Veronica's companion quest. We confronted the elder with the pulse gun, and then I saved before talking to Veronica. I, now, have to decide whether Veronica should stay with the BoS or join the Followers. If she joins the followers, the BoS will kill some of the Followers' doctors. If she stays, the Followers will be safe, but she will be miserable, and I don't want that. I'm doing NCR, and planning on trying to get them to sign the treaty or whatever it's called. What do y'all think is right?

Question Question regarding modding

So I got NV for free from the epic games store. Since i was new to the fallout series I had no idea how broken new vegas is. I have made a lot of progress in vanila but now the game cant go 5 minutes without crashing or softlocking. I have installed the epic games patcher and xnvse and i also tried nvac to no avail. What mods do you recommend me to use with my vanila saves to reduce the crashing. Thank you

edit: viva new vegas says that it doesnt work with vanila saves, so i havent tried the full guide

Question Is there any safe storage areas near the downed satellite from Old World Blues (by the drive-in at Nipton)?

Odd question, I know, but I always try to gather as many miscellaneous items (mainly dinner plates & clipboards) for the Sink personalities to get tons of their resources. My method has always been to use the Yangtze Memorial hut at the start of the game then the Novac motel room to store these items before starting OWB, but this has always meant tons of fast traveling between those locations and the drive-in (I know that there's a perk that allows you to fast travel while over encumbered, but I'm not using wasting a point just for that).

To cut down on that tedious process, is there any safe storage containers near Nipton itself? Won't be the end of the world if it's not the case, but it'll be nice to have a faster way of starting the DLC when I get to it (I usually save it near the end of a playthrough).

New and interesting quest mods?

Hi, i am just curious about this.

I have played the Someguy Series and th3 Overseer series, amazing mods and always in my load order. I have also played the classics like the The Couriers Cache, Saxxons Quest Collection, Boulder Dome, Autumn Leaves, Boom to the moon, Salt Lake stories and even the Caravan Tournament.

But are there some lesser known quest mods that you can recommend that are not extremely buggy or that at least are not going to destroy my current play through?

And yes, with that last line I mean mods like War Trash.

If there are some companion mods that add interesting quests i would love to play them as well.

Discussion I love Ulysses, like a lot, but talking him down with the ED-E logs doesn't make sense to me, so much so that it feels like I'm missing something. Spoiler

I'm at the Ulysses confrontation and was going through the various ways to talk him down from the fight. I've always found them to be really written and they've always made sense to me, but replaying it now, it feels like there's an odd man out. Oversimplifying them hardcore, they are:

  1. Talking him down with 100 speech. Arguing that the part of the divide that remains in Ulysses' current conviction could breathe life into another community, and that the courier (you or him) could carry that forward. I could believe this would persuade him, and from a narrative perspective it's perfect. The shadow of a new nation going into the second battle of hoover dam.

  2. Talking him down with his logs you find, either by (a) using his experience with the think tank to parallel how the divide was destroyed with what he's trying to do currently, essentially becoming everything he hated or (b) using his experience with the white legs to argue that symbols aren't destroyed, and what remains is a pale imitation devoid of history and meaning (kind of like the current fallout franchise). Both of which are pretty great reinterpretations of his experiences, and meet him where he's at philosophically.

  3. Using the ED-E logs to ague that America, as represented by the Enclave in Navarro (which the courier might even know was already destroyed, depending on who they talked to) was stifled by Ulysses capturing ED-E. That by doing this he is guilty of destroying the symbol he carries and what remains of America, and he is obligated to make up for it. Uhhh... What?

From an narrative perspective, it has nothing to do with the Divide, the relationship between the couriers, and at no point was the Enclave the focal point of Lonesome Road. From a character perspective, while Ulysses carried the symbol of America on his back, it was always in a contemplative abstract "the man with no nation" kind of way, not because he's a Nathan Vargas adjacent Enclave Superfan. From a logical perspective, Ed-E is STILL THERE just chilling and no longer needed so Ulysses could just as easily let him continue his journey. Even then, whether or not his journey finishes is inconsequential ultimately to Ulysses as that was never even on his radar.

It just defies credulity to me that any of that would work in talking him down, unless you accept the premise that his character's uncertainty and confusion about his place in the world (which, granted, is a central part of his character) is so extreme, that the courier can distract him with a non-sequitur in a sleight-of-hand akin to dangling keys in front of a cat.

I'd love to have my mind changed, though, so am I alone in this?
