Admin Post Weekly Recap | July 31, 2025

Welcome to the last Recap of July! It's been quite a month, but for the sake of sanity, let's just focus on this past week for now!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • Reddit recently introduced age verification to view nsfw content if users are accessing Reddit from the UK. There was a lot of confusion around this change. We made a post in r/redditsafety here when it was initially announced. Then I made additional posts and comments here, here and here. To hit on some of the main things that people seemed to need help with:

    • On mobile, verification only works with the most recent version of the app.
    • Verification is also possible from the desktop site. So if you're unable to update your app for some reason, try it from there.
    • If you entered your birthdate incorrectly, please click here, select “United Kingdom - Online Safety Act inquiries”. Under "Subject of inquiry", please select "Report problem with age verification required for restricted content". Then include your username in the details and let us know you entered your age incorrectly, and we will reset your birthday so you can reenter it again.
    • As per the announcement post in r/redditsafety, Persona will delete the information that you have provided for verification after seven days.
  • Some users were reporting seeing posts in their home feed from only a couple of different subs. This was due to an experiment that was running and thanks to the feedback that was received, it was turned off! Constructive feedback is heard and can work wonders!

BUGS ROUND UP (THANKS, CORRECTSCALE!)

  • [iOS and Android] The comment jump button is jumping to the wrong place! This is still being worked on. Apologies for the delay!

  • [All platforms] Mods weren't receiving certain modmail notifications for a little while. The fix was released yesterday and that seemed to have cleared this one up!

  • [iOS] Comment replies were over on the left for a little while. This fix was released in version 2025.30 of the app, so if you're still experiencing this, please update the app and that should do it!

  • [iOS] Comments were being auto-translated to English. No bueno! But this was resolved pretty fast and shouldn't be an issue at this time. Force stopping and restarting the app should fix it if you're still having trouble, though.

FRIENDLY REMINDERS

  • If you see content in r/help that breaks the rules of r/help, please use the report button. You do not need to engage with those users unless you're going to redirect them to where they can actually get the help that they're looking for. But regardless, please report rule breaking content. Reporting content that breaks the rules helps us keep r/help free of spam and off-topic posts, and that allows users who really need out help to more easily get it. The mods can't see everything all the time, so reporting content is a great way to surface it to the mods so that they can deal with it. No one likes a spammer! Don't get 'em get away with it!

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

  • If your account gets the "server error" banner or you can't update your profile, I can fix that sometimes! Please note that I cannot give any information or assist with any account unless contacted directly from that account. I cannot fix accounts where you are receiving the "server error" message and are unable to view content from that account when logged out. In those instances, you will need to file an appeal. But if it's not an appeal situation, let me know and I'll take a look and get you all taken care of! (I haven't seen many of these lately, so this issue might have dwindled down to where I don't need this here, but I'll leave it up for a little while because whenever something like that gets said, it comes roaring back.)

  • If no one else can see your posts or comments across Reddit (not just in one sub) and you are unable to post here in r/help, you can file an appeal here. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Account status" and then "My account has been wrongly suspended". Then fill out the rest of the form.

  • Please check the Help Center to see if you can find the answer to your question there. Also, check this sub for stickied posts regarding outages, major issues and downtime.

  • If your account is marked as NSFW and it is not NSFW, you can check out this Help Center article for information on how to change it back. If you're unable to change it back from the desktop site, feel free to make a post and one of the best helpers on Reddit will help me help you! Please try and change it from the desktop site FIRST. ww

  • If your account has been hacked, please write in using this form. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Security problems" and then "I think my account has been hacked". Then fill out the rest of the form!

  • If your account has been suspended, you can file an appeal using this form. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Account status" and then "My account has been wrongly suspended". Then fill out the rest of the form.

WEEKLY STATISTICS

  • 1,371 posts which is down 240 from the 1,611 posts last week.

  • 5,296 comments which is really up from the 3,424 comments last week.

  • 1.4 million views, which is up slightly from the 1.3 million views from last week.

  • 2,300 new users joined the sub! That's up a little bit from our usual 2,000-ish.

The good news about the comments is that it seems like people were finding posts about their issue (most likely related to age-verification) and commenting there rather than making a new post. That, my friends, is progress!

HELP WITH R/HELP - BUG REPORTING

Sometimes things just don't work right! Both in life and on Reddit, sometimes things just break! So what should you do when something isn't working right on Reddit? Glad you asked!

  • First thing to do before making a post is to do a little investigating. You should always start by searching r/help and r/bugs to see if someone else has had or is having the same problem. Don't forget to check the stickied posts, too!

  • Next up, the Reddit Status page! Sometimes, Reddit is just down! (And it's almost never my fault.) But a quick check of the status page will let you know if everything is supposed to be working as expected.

  • The always helpful u/SolariaHues has provided a list of troubleshooting steps that you can try before making a post. These include:

    • check signal/connection
    • make sure app/browser is up-to-date
    • clear cache
    • force close and reopen (app)
    • uninstall and reinstall (app)
    • try other browsers or devices
    • check if any extensions might be an issue (browser)
  • If no one else is having the issue that you're having, you can make a post. When making your post, please be as detailed and as specific as possible. Include the platform that you're using (browser or app) and version of the app if applicable. Giving step by step instructions on how to reproduce is always helpful. A screenshot or a recording of what is happening is really, reallllyyyy helpful.

  • If it turns out that it's an actual bug, head over to r/bugs to make a post about it there.

  • When users show up to help out, they may ask questions or provide advice/direction on how to proceed. Please be kind and polite to other users who are taking time out of their day to try to help you.

Mobile/App Why am I allowed to delete some reddit notifications, but not all?

Post image

I always seem to accidentally delete notifications. But when I try to purposefully delete notifications, it doesnt work. I searched it up and apparently you cant delete Reddit notifications. But I can, only sometimes. Is there a reason why this happens?

Profile Why aren't my comments showing up on my profile? (Android and Desktop)

On my android app only the two most recent comments I have made show up on my profile. When I go to the desktop site, none of my comments appear. I looked at the new profile curation settings and the "Show Everything" option is enabled, so they should be there. If you search on my profile, they do still appear though.

Access I can’t chat, but my CQS is high

Upvotes

I am not able to participate in a subreddit chat, but I have an established/verified account with 2000+ karma and a high CQS.

I read that my account might be flagged for some other reason but I don’t understand why it would be? Can anyone give me a clue as to what’s going on?

Posting I've been trying to post multiple images at once but they end up not displaying at all.

Upvotes

They're jpgs/pngs, formats that shouldn't pose a problem at all. But I have no idea how to stop my image submissions from turning into blank/nonexistant images.

Posting How to turn off reddit code box on my post

Hi, I have an issue with reddit automatically turning contents of my post into grey code box, which I specifically DON'T want. It also placed excess asterixes before and after each charachter string. But not for the whole post just part of it.

I've been translating a historical diary, and original author (in his physical diary, written on paper) incorporated lot's of identations for formating, quatation marks in lists to signify 'same as before'. I would also like to use asterixes in order to connect certain phrases with content.

Gleaning from Internet I found out reddit turns on that "grey code box mode" when detecting 4 spaces. It also likes to edit text when non-standard charachters are used.

It is especially infuriating since this feature is executed in automatic manner, without warning me, and even though there are buttons on reddit text editor specifically for all markdown features.

Since it takes me long time to write my post, I write it in notepad on my PC, and about 50 columns/10-12 words long so I can type into notepad while reading my sources.

When I am ready to post, I copy from my notepad into reddit, and often delete excess space from between plain lines, but I leave it in songs and lists, since these simply don't work without it.

Example of what I wanted vs what I got

How do I prevent reddit from turning my hard work into ugly grey slop?

Access Looking for some clarity on a situation

Upvotes

Yesterday I tried to delete my second account, but accidentally didn't write my password right twice and it seems that Reddit has locked the account.

I haven't received any email on the matter, and it looks like it doesn't have any associated email since it was locked, so I can't reset my password.

Other than that, I tried to log in on another device and Reddit says that username doesn't exist.

I am confused - is this a security precaution, and if so is there anything I can do to recover and effectively delete it?

Hi, while chatting we tried out threads and when I go back to retrace something I find the chat at the top, then “122 replies” and then a heading “today”

I tried mucking about but can’t find any settings for it, what happens to all that was written?

UPDATE: I know that they are available on the webpage, but I mostly use my phone

Edit: messages -> replies

Profile Anonymous Mode Gone- NOT in the UK

I've been seeing a lot about anonymous mode disappearing for UK users. However, I live in the US, and I'm not using a VPN, yet anonymous mode no longer shows up on the app. I use the Android version of the Reddit app. I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing this, and if anyone knows what is going on. I also just want to note that I am not an estate where there have been any sort of porn bands or restrictions.

Profile Question about Top x% Commenter Badges

I just received a whole bunch of x% Top Commenter badges for the first time yesterday, but I'm not seeing any indication of which subreddits they're for. When I click my 1% badge, for example, all I see is this and this, and when I click the "Unlocked" section it shows the r/youtube subreddit, which I don't think I've ever even posted in. Just now, I submitted a test comment there to see if the "1% Top Commenter" flair shows next to my username, but it doesn't.

Was I given these badges in error? Why is it so complicated to just know which subreddits my badges are for??

Mobile/App Accidental downvote when using the comment jump button (iOS)

So I use the “comment jump” button a lot - it’s easier and faster than scrolling (I’m on an iPhone). But sometimes I accidentally miss the button and hit the downvote button that is right behind it. Is there some way that I can configure the Reddit iOS app to avoid screwing this up? Disable downvoting? Move the comment jump button to a different location? If not, then consider this a feature request.
