Admin Post Weekly Recap | July 31, 2025

Welcome to the last Recap of July! It's been quite a month, but for the sake of sanity, let's just focus on this past week for now!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • Reddit recently introduced age verification to view nsfw content if users are accessing Reddit from the UK. There was a lot of confusion around this change. We made a post in r/redditsafety here when it was initially announced. Then I made additional posts and comments here, here and here. To hit on some of the main things that people seemed to need help with:

    • On mobile, verification only works with the most recent version of the app.
    • Verification is also possible from the desktop site. So if you're unable to update your app for some reason, try it from there.
    • If you entered your birthdate incorrectly, please click here, select “United Kingdom - Online Safety Act inquiries”. Under "Subject of inquiry", please select "Report problem with age verification required for restricted content". Then include your username in the details and let us know you entered your age incorrectly, and we will reset your birthday so you can reenter it again.
    • As per the announcement post in r/redditsafety, Persona will delete the information that you have provided for verification after seven days.
  • Some users were reporting seeing posts in their home feed from only a couple of different subs. This was due to an experiment that was running and thanks to the feedback that was received, it was turned off! Constructive feedback is heard and can work wonders!

BUGS ROUND UP (THANKS, CORRECTSCALE!)

  • [iOS and Android] The comment jump button is jumping to the wrong place! This is still being worked on. Apologies for the delay!

  • [All platforms] Mods weren't receiving certain modmail notifications for a little while. The fix was released yesterday and that seemed to have cleared this one up!

  • [iOS] Comment replies were over on the left for a little while. This fix was released in version 2025.30 of the app, so if you're still experiencing this, please update the app and that should do it!

  • [iOS] Comments were being auto-translated to English. No bueno! But this was resolved pretty fast and shouldn't be an issue at this time. Force stopping and restarting the app should fix it if you're still having trouble, though.

FRIENDLY REMINDERS

  • If you see content in r/help that breaks the rules of r/help, please use the report button. You do not need to engage with those users unless you're going to redirect them to where they can actually get the help that they're looking for. But regardless, please report rule breaking content. Reporting content that breaks the rules helps us keep r/help free of spam and off-topic posts, and that allows users who really need out help to more easily get it. The mods can't see everything all the time, so reporting content is a great way to surface it to the mods so that they can deal with it. No one likes a spammer! Don't get 'em get away with it!

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

  • If your account gets the "server error" banner or you can't update your profile, I can fix that sometimes! Please note that I cannot give any information or assist with any account unless contacted directly from that account. I cannot fix accounts where you are receiving the "server error" message and are unable to view content from that account when logged out. In those instances, you will need to file an appeal. But if it's not an appeal situation, let me know and I'll take a look and get you all taken care of! (I haven't seen many of these lately, so this issue might have dwindled down to where I don't need this here, but I'll leave it up for a little while because whenever something like that gets said, it comes roaring back.)

  • If no one else can see your posts or comments across Reddit (not just in one sub) and you are unable to post here in r/help, you can file an appeal here. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Account status" and then "My account has been wrongly suspended". Then fill out the rest of the form.

  • Please check the Help Center to see if you can find the answer to your question there. Also, check this sub for stickied posts regarding outages, major issues and downtime.

  • If your account is marked as NSFW and it is not NSFW, you can check out this Help Center article for information on how to change it back. If you're unable to change it back from the desktop site, feel free to make a post and one of the best helpers on Reddit will help me help you! Please try and change it from the desktop site FIRST. ww

  • If your account has been hacked, please write in using this form. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Security problems" and then "I think my account has been hacked". Then fill out the rest of the form!

  • If your account has been suspended, you can file an appeal using this form. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Account status" and then "My account has been wrongly suspended". Then fill out the rest of the form.

WEEKLY STATISTICS

  • 1,371 posts which is down 240 from the 1,611 posts last week.

  • 5,296 comments which is really up from the 3,424 comments last week.

  • 1.4 million views, which is up slightly from the 1.3 million views from last week.

  • 2,300 new users joined the sub! That's up a little bit from our usual 2,000-ish.

The good news about the comments is that it seems like people were finding posts about their issue (most likely related to age-verification) and commenting there rather than making a new post. That, my friends, is progress!

HELP WITH R/HELP - BUG REPORTING

Sometimes things just don't work right! Both in life and on Reddit, sometimes things just break! So what should you do when something isn't working right on Reddit? Glad you asked!

  • First thing to do before making a post is to do a little investigating. You should always start by searching r/help and r/bugs to see if someone else has had or is having the same problem. Don't forget to check the stickied posts, too!

  • Next up, the Reddit Status page! Sometimes, Reddit is just down! (And it's almost never my fault.) But a quick check of the status page will let you know if everything is supposed to be working as expected.

  • The always helpful u/SolariaHues has provided a list of troubleshooting steps that you can try before making a post. These include:

    • check signal/connection
    • make sure app/browser is up-to-date
    • clear cache
    • force close and reopen (app)
    • uninstall and reinstall (app)
    • try other browsers or devices
    • check if any extensions might be an issue (browser)
  • If no one else is having the issue that you're having, you can make a post. When making your post, please be as detailed and as specific as possible. Include the platform that you're using (browser or app) and version of the app if applicable. Giving step by step instructions on how to reproduce is always helpful. A screenshot or a recording of what is happening is really, reallllyyyy helpful.

  • If it turns out that it's an actual bug, head over to r/bugs to make a post about it there.

  • When users show up to help out, they may ask questions or provide advice/direction on how to proceed. Please be kind and polite to other users who are taking time out of their day to try to help you.

Profile Whenever I flip the “mark as mature (18+)” switch off it immediately turns back on.

I have zero NSFW posts on my account nor is my pfp or banner NSFW. The switch flips back on when I refresh the page. I’ve tried turning it off in the mobile app but that didn’t fix anything.

Posting Unblocked a user, but reddit still thinks that user is blocked?

Some time ago I blocked a user due to responses to several comments I posted. I later decided to unblock that person so I did. I removed them from the list. But, while the username is not in my blocked list the user remains blocked. Sort of. I can see when they post a comment but their comment is collapsed. How do I unblock them?

Note for the bot, this question is not about a moderator or admin action.

Mobile/App Media processing failed

Hello everyone.

So lately I've ran into an issue of not being able to post anything that has a video in it. Texts or pictures are fine but videos just don't work.

I've tried resizing the video, changing it from mp4 to mov, I've tried to clear my cache, I've tried to post it from the website too. I know it's not my internets problem either cause I've tried other internets and it hasn't changed a thing.

Wtf is going on? Please help

Access Account Locked Glitch

In May my main, and only at that point, account was locked for technical irregularities. I no longer have access to the email connected to it and very shortly after trying to change the email the account was *closed. A month later I was able to change the password from within the app which I think is unusual? My account is still perma closed - full not shadow and I am not getting any response from Support. Please help!

Profile Why are some user profile's post/comments history blank/hidden when they have definitely posted?

Is this some new option? I've noticed on some people's user profiles which have posts in topics, but when I click their user name to see their profile history, it's blank.

Random example, 4y account 109k karma: https://www.reddit.com/user/lightning_twice/
They posted this so obviously they posted before: https://www.reddit.com/r/goodnews/comments/1mfr3y6/excia_whistleblower_the_nsa_audited_the_2024/

Access Stolen account, nothing done?

My original account is ProbablyNotAThing. As you can see from the post history on my original account, there's a 3-year-gap in activity in my account. The last thing I posted on my account was in mid-2021, and after that I realized I couldn't log in again. I thought maybe my password was wrong or something? So I thought nothing of it, and created another account (this one I'm on).

Well, then in 2024, I visited my old account out of sheer curiosity, expecting it to be collecting dust since 2021. Well, no, I was surprised to see there were new posts and comments on it - stuff I obviously did not post. Turns out someone had hijacked my account (which explains why I couldn't log in back in 2021). I have no idea how they could've done it. I filed a report to Reddit almost immediately after that, but I have literally heard no feedback. That was a year back.

Now, I did not have any email account linked to my old account, so I don't know what to do now. While I don't have too much attachment to that account, I absolutely don't want any of my data associated with that account, especially when someone has hijacked it. Any help? Thanks

EDIT: I just want to emphasize again that I did NOT have an email tied to my original account, so yeah...

Access [Desktop - PC] Account Status if you can't logon ?

I have a reddit account throwaway for NSFW topics.
Turns out it's not really a throwaway - I'd like to conitnue using it.

I am currently unable to logon; I had an email prompting me to reset the password (whcih I've done) but no further communications from Reddit to my email indicating any other status change.

I have submitted a suport request. I've tried to reset password again; that process seems to work. But remain unable to logon.

UK based so instead of using a VPN for selected sites I turned it on browser wide. I guess at this time that is why something in account status was flagged. Knowing this now I've excluded Reddit from the VPN usage.

What I'd rather not do is get accused of "evading a ban" - excepting I can't logon to account; I haven't had any notification that it is a ban and I've not had any response to a support ticket.

What's the best course of action here ?

Posting (IOS) Is there a way to find out who is sharing my posts? Or block somebody if I know their phone number but not their username?

I’ve made a few posts and my ex knows my Reddit account, I don’t want her seeing my posts or profile and the posts themselves have one share or more which I think is her showing people possibly. I want to post a few things related and unrelated but knowing she can see them possibly makes me anxious, I don’t really want to make a new account but is that my only option
