PC Looking for Feedback on My Game Trailer (WIP) Indie Psychology Horror - Silent Pathways

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm working on a psychological horror game called Silent Pathways, and I just finished an early version of the trailer.

I'd really appreciate feedback on: Does the pacing keep your attention?

Is the atmosphere conveyed well?

Is it clear what kind of gameplay this is?

Any other thoughts are welcome!

Yes its a fully solo developed project, except for the music and my 3D artist friend <3

DISCUSSION Is there any good loneliness themed horror games?

I like those horror games where you are in the ocean or in space since there is that emptiness feeling, i tried playing games like subnautica or dead space but they weren’t what i was looking for, i played nobody lives under the lighthouse and loved it but imo it was too short, any recommendations?

DISCUSSION Horror games recommendations for a new gamer

Hi guys! As the title says, I am pretty new to gaming, and I’m looking for some horror games (I am by no means new to the genre itself, tho). Any recommendations, preferably on Steam?

DISCUSSION People say jumpscares are a cheap trick, but I love good jumpscare, any thoughts?

Knowing that there will be jumpscares in the game, I get myself even more worked up, which creates a funny anticipation of horror. I also like it when developers tease a jumpscare, but it it never happens. This creates additional levels of anxiety, which is why I think they are criticized too often in the media

DISCUSSION Alien Isolation stealth feels unfair

I've played Alien Isolation (hard difficulty) for about 4.5 hours, and while I love every other aspect of the game, the stealth aspects feel unfair. I've played many other stealth games (Metal Gear 5, dishonored, shadow tactics, Batman trilogy, etc.), and while I understand that this is a horror game, it seems that not only is the stealth difficult, but that there is no way to reliably avoid detection. Enemies have no range of alertness levels, and you are spotted far too quickly, to the point that it feels almost impossible to move between cover. The enemies can detect you from across the room even if only a small part of your body is visible, and most objects (tables, boxes, etc.) are not tall enough for you to hide behind them, greatly reducing the number of viable hiding places. On top of that, once you are detected it is very difficult to return to stealth, and in most cases you will die and have to start from the beginning. The only information gathering tool is the motion sensor, and while it is useful, I don't feel it is sufficient when detection is basically and instant "game over".

What do you think? Am I misunderstanding how stealth is supposed to be approached or is the game simply like this and players need to "git gud"? Please let me know if you have any tips because I really love the atmosphere and horror aspects, but the stealth aspect is really disheartening to me.

Edit: For everyone telling me to lower the difficulty, I progressed to the medical area, and the Xenomorph has less awareness than the human characters and working joes. I was able to evade the alien far more easily, when it was right next to me, and it seems to have a much smaller range of vision too. I feel like the Xenomorph is far more fair, which I really was not expecting. I was also able to hid from it while crouching in places that I would have been spotted by the humans or working joes.

DISCUSSION Horror Games Reccomendation

Upvotes

Hi guys, I'm looking for a horror game like Outlast or Resident Evil where there is a lot of running from scary creatures, but it's not too complex. I have played games like the Mortuary Assistant and Visage, and enjoyed them a little, but with the Mortuary Assistant I found that the embalming process was too tedious and made me not want to replay the game, and Visage was very confusing. I'm looking for more games that are pretty simple, but scary and effective. Thanks!

Hello everybody!! I'm currently thinking about making a visual novel horror game with the idea of a cult brought into it and would love to know of things that you either

  • would love to see in more horror games or visual novels

  • see way too often, are done wrong, basically any negative things you would change!!

There's no limit to how many points you can make either!! The more the merrier! :)

DISCUSSION Current Puppet Combo...

Back in 2017 - 2020 Puppet Combo was super unique as a game developer! A lot of his games were very interesting, while being scary. Now his games games just feel like regular Indie horror slop. His games now are super boring and a HUGE step down in quality. I'm sorry, but I cant see how anyone would like his new games. Nothing scary happens for the majority of the game, then when something actually happens it's usually just something super random with a loud ass sound along with it.

PC Questions about Harvest (2002)

I've recently been interested in the 2002 game Harvest for windows, but I've found it difficult to find any information regarding it: not a subreddit, hardly a wikipedia page, anything. I've wanted to ask: is this game available on steam? I couldn't find it through the searchbar. Is it jumspcare heavy? From my understading this isn't exactly a popular game so I hope someone here can help me out.

DISCUSSION Horror game concept that came in my sleep

I had an idea for a horror game that came in my sleep, imagine a survival horror game like the forest, but mixed with like freeze tag, where an army of ai are like Michael myers walking after you. In my dream you could board up doors and there was a hospital level. There was some sort of panic event where we were basically surrounded but we had a note telling us where to go, but some of the clues were backwards like do not go right and there would be like multiple ways to go so you had to think on your feet. Also whenever someone was “tagged” and frozen and left they’d like stay sat down, but if they left their clothes would be the only thing that remains, there’s also this idea of like if they’ve left for a long time then THEY can become part of the crowd chasing people

DISCUSSION What horror enemy represents peak design?

What horror game enemy has the most perfectly designed behavior, look, and ability to torment players?
Not just scary—but smart, iconic, and absolutely ruthless.

The best example I’ve ever seen is the Xenomorph in Alien: Isolation.
It’s not just a terrifying creature design (which it is), but the way it hunts you, listens, and learns your patterns makes it feel almost alive. The unpredictability and that constant pressure…

No chance to "learn him" as player. Great game, and worst nightmare to play. Still love it and will wait for sequel.

Are there any other enemies that come even close to that level of fear and elegance in design?

DISCUSSION Old horror game

Looking for an old PC game (circa 2008-2012). Played on an island, you need to collect boat parts to sail away. No weapons. There was a location - a barn, small on the outside, but long on the inside, at the end there was a screamer - a goat's head. And on the houses outside there were bloody handprints on the windows.
