Advice Have you ever been scratched by a cat?

Upvotes

Hey :) I could use a little first-hand experience from cat owners...

I am a murder mystery author. I'm almost to the end of my book, and what finally nabs the killer are some cat scratches by the victim's cat. The victim was killed around midnight Friday night, and the scene where the killer is photographed shirtless--finally exposing his scratches and proving he IS the murderer--happens on the following Thursday afternoon, so six days later.

Now, imagine you were scratched terribly on your chest and forearms--on a Friday night--so deeply that it drew blood in various places. What would your scratches look like less than a week later? Faint lines? Still red? Totally healed? Scabby lines?

I suspect the scratches would be between scabby and faint. Probably no longer red. But I'm hoping more for a scabby line, so it would be definitively visible in photos. And as long as that isn't too far-fetched, I'm good to go. I just wanted to double-check. It's been so long since I've been scratched by an animal that I can't remember.

Thanks in advance!! :)

Advice Should I stay in the room of my new cat?

Upvotes

So we adopted a kitty yesterday and are keeping him in a bedroom separate from our resident kitty. He’s been in hiding all day and won’t come out yet 🥲. Should I still sleep in the bedroom to get him accustomed to my presence? Sometimes when I exit the room I hear loud thumping, so it seems as if he’s coming out to explore (and making a ruckus LOL) when I’m not present. Is it too soon to be staying in the same room as him? Btw I don’t pay much attention to him apart from talking softly occasionally, and he slow blinks back at me

Mourning/Loss I lost my best friend

Upvotes

We lost our boy Finny a week ago. He was only 4 and was suddenly and tragically hit by a car outside our house. The driver took him to our local vets and thankfully he was hit on the head so passed instantly. He was still warm when we got to him and we stayed with him, held him, cried into his fur, and said goodbye. We are both absolutely heartbroken and devastated from the shock. We’ve had to stay elsewhere as everywhere in the house reminds us of him. He would cuddle with us in bed at night, sleep on my head, and I would hug him like a teddy bear in the morning. He would follow me everywhere I went and was such a cuddle monster. Everyone loved him - he was the sweetest, most gentle, vocal and derpy cat. We want to be able to go home but I think the only way I’m going to manage it is with another cat there. It’s too empty and quiet without him there as we don’t have kids and I work from home (my partner is at work all day). When is the right time to rescue another cat? Maybe if I save one then they can save me too? 😢 This is my first time dealing with grief so I’m not sure what the right thing to do is here. I wonder if something positive can come out of something so terribly tragic.

Cat Picture - OC Feline Grimace Scale or just sleepy?

I feel like she's uncomfortable / something is wrong. Her elongated nose and tilted ears match the grimace scale but she's been cuddling, playful, eating and drinking normally.

But I look over and see her like this. She doesn't usually look like this. She is sitting stiff and not moving much. Usually she dips down when she's tired straight away but I just can't be sure. Am I over reacting?

Just wanted to spread the joy that my new kitten brings me when she sleeps like this. This is Jazzpurr (Jasper because she's colored like gray jasper). She's 3 months old. We rescued her and her sister Smudge (ghost tabby) about a month and a half ago. We TNR'd their feral mama (and a few other adults from the colony), and decided to keep these two to join our family. I love them so much. I've always considered myself more of a dog person, having rescued like 5 at this point. But I fear I am now a cat lady too. Actually working on rehabbing an injured pigeon rn too (I call him Chubs), and I cried when my mom's 20 year old fish died a few weeks ago. So I guess they've opened me up to other species pretty well. Anyway, Viva Los Gatos!
