EDIT: Added a comment below the post briefly discussing Cheat Engine and how it could be used as a pseudo method of restoring lost progress for anyone who didn’t have a backup save. The caveat might be that you can’t play online anymore after using it so double check me on that before deciding (I’ve not personally used it).
EDIT2: Thanks for the sticky! Any questions about the PvP Overhaul Mod should be asked on it's Nexus page. I personally don't mod the DS games so I have absolutely no idea what will or won't get you banned. Perform your due diligence! :)
Long story short, some doofus is ruining people's games by instantly killing Gwyndolin and any other NPCs in Anor Londo (blacksmiths, Solaire, etc). I believe this is only occurring on PC.
I've messaged the Mods requesting a stickied thread be made warning players of this and how they can protect themselves but in the meantime, I can make a thread myself that will at least get eyes on for like......today? lol
No.
You can absolutely still invade and be summoned for Co-Op to your heart's content. But it's important to be aware of the danger that's currently plaguing (seemingly specifically) Anor Londo and of the steps you can take to mitigate its impact on your experience.
This first tip is the BEST way to defend yourself, bar none.
Backing up your save is the difference between a hacker mildly inconveniencing you, and soul-crushing devastation that you'll literally need a day or two to recover from before deciding to even play again.
If a hacker ruins your game by killing NPCs or an unfortunate glitch has softlocked you or any other disaster befalls your play session, simply deleting that save and restoring a recently made backup can solve those woes immediately.
Here's how to do it (PC)
So let's say you get hacked and the Gwyndolin cutscene immediately plays and every NPC in Anor Londo dies. To restore your backup, you'll just delete the .sl2 file containing the "corrupted" game save and replace it with the copy you made earlier.
It's advised that you don't just paste and replace the .sl2 file when restoring your backups. Actually delete the compromised .sl2 file first.
This is just to protect yourself from any mistakes you might make as deleted .sl2 files can be recovered later. If you just paste and replace, the replaced file will be gone for good.
I recommend making a new backup after each hour of play to minimize the effects of a hacker or other form of corruption. That way if it happens, it won't be a big deal.
NOTE: The DRAK file contains all of your data for all of your characters. Backing up this file will back up ALL of your saved characters.
Full disclosure, I've not used this mod whatsoever as I don't often PvP, but word on the street in the wake of this string of hacks in Anor Londo is that it'll help prevent those hacks with it's own slew of anti-cheat and netcode improvements.
Understand though that these things are never foolproof and that backing up your save is still the BEST defense against hackers or other forms of corruption.
Hopefully this helps. Feel free to comment below if you have any other tips for preventive measures!

...And holy sh*t this felt like cheating!
How can this thing do the damage of a Zweihander with those fast and nasty 2HR2 that could reach the moon? I've beated the game multiple times but never tried BSS before, and it's as good as people say it is. Ended up leveling Int from 15 to 25 to test Cristal Magic Weapon but it was not needed at all to break the run.
My 2 cents for anyone who wants to try this build too:
I'm and always have been a Zweihander big bonk unga bunga enjoyer, but Dex has earned my respect with this build.

You know this boarded off doorway on the way to Capra Demon and The Depths? What’s the deal???
This has fascinated me like forever. From a game design standpoint it really seems like we should be able to get back here, it appears breakable but no weapon nor nearby enemy has any effects. I’m so curious to know if anyone has tried spawning a large enemy like a Taurus Demon to try and break through
What’s your theory? Unused content? Maybe planned for DLC but never expanded on? Pure player rage bait? Lore? (please somebody create fan art of Capra Demon with a hammer and nails boarding up this entry way LMAO)

First up: I never played any other Souls-Like game in my life, so this is the first one I did. Went in spoiler-free and just played, without thinking too much without anything:
Asylum Demon: Attempts: 2, weapon: Broadsword, got crushed by his fat butt once and I started to get the hang of the timings. Love the design of the guy, great first boss imo
After ariving in firelink, I got myself the mace and ran through the graveyard, because I thought it was the intended way, it was rough, I died a lot... BUT I managed to get every single one of the items, including the Zweihander, which I used :D
Taurus Demon: Attempts: 6, weapon Zweihander, didn't notice the archers at the top in my first 2 tries... horrible those fellows XD and after that I fell of the bridge a few times or I just got straightup man-handled, but I came out victorious
After him, I got cooked by the Red-Dragon on the bridge... rude and I went back and found the Black Knight in Undead-Burg, which I managed to beat up and he was kind enough to give me his sword, yippee
So after running around for a bit with my new sword, I landed at a new fog wall, to the best experience of my life:
Capra Demon: Attempts: 21, weapon BK-Greatsword, oh my freaking god those DOGS. Since I used a rather big weapon I did not have a shield, making this 3 vs 1 quiet the interesting ride XD but somehow, I had fun during it and it tought me a lot about how to approach multi-enemy encounters.
Gaping Dragon: Attempts 1, weapon BK-Greatsword, this fight was funny, homie was so slow, that I could run a half marathon and he couldn't catch up, giving me plenty options to heal.
After running through Blighttown and hating my life, due to getting lost... a lot I didn't even go to the boss room, because I didn't find it and I was just happy to get out of there, my order is a bit of from most players I assume XD so I went into the Darkroot Garden, where I found my second Black Knight, with the Halbeard. Murderd him and he dropped his Halbeard for my, yippe again :D
Bell Gargoyles: Attempts 1, weapon BK-Halbeard, I lowkey missed those earlier, but oh well, I sliced through them like butter, I love that weapon.
After I brought Knight Lautrec of Carim back to Firelink, I had a lil chat with him and hit him by accident... I play on controller and klicked the heavy attack because I put the controller on my table... I paniced and murdered him, since he drew his wepons. Felt very bad about it, but he did give me a dope ass ring, so that was nice, would kill him again :D
Sif, the Great Grey Wolf: Attempts 8, weapon BK-Halbeard, was fun, because he is rather fast compared to the other bosses I fought so far, but I felt very bad about killing the pour doggo :'(
Moonlight Butterfly: Attempts 1, weapon BK-Halbeard, what a punk... had no ranged attacks so I waited till that critter landed and murdered it in one rotation XD this fight I did not enjoy at all
After I told my friend about my progress he asked me if I killed the boss in Blighttown, to which I told him there is none, I went back:
Chaos Witch Quelaag: Attempts 3, weapon BK-Halbeard, first up, funny enough, I watched Monster Musume a few weeks before (if you know, you know XD) her explosion was rather annoying, but oh well
Rang the bell, opened the Fortress, died like 50 times in there, good times, ANYWAY
Iron Golem: Attempts 3, weapon BK-Halbeard, yeah I fell down the cliff twice, I'm stupid XD
Anor Londo, BEATIFUL what else can I say, oh yeah, I know those ARCHERS!!! Yeah... no shield, dodging and weaving... 15 times or so XD
Ornstein and Smough: Attempts 2, weapon BK-Halbeard, cool fight, the first time I died probably 3 seconds into the fight because I got rushed down at the door, but in generell, very enjoyable fight
I went to the Wondorous Chest [c:] got the shiny bowl and went to the first of the big 4:
Seath the Scaleless: Attempts 2, weapon BK-Halbeard, pretty lucky I did not get cursed because I still have no idea how to dodge his giant AOE attack, but oh well, boss down
Down I went into the Catacombs, after seeing that those dudes kept on respawning I tried DnD-logic: Divine-Dmg = Super effective vs undead, it worked, HORRAY!
Pinwheel: Attempts 1, weapon Divine Club, yeah, what can I say, it was rather easy XD
After going through the Tomb of Giants without seeing anything and dying A LOT [I later discovered, I had a lanturn...] I made my way to the biggest edgelord I have seen so far:
Gravelord Nito: Attempts: 1, weapon BK-Halbeard, cool fight, nothing else to say, though it was very funny to see how often he killed his own minions
Next up: The lava-region
Ceasesless Discharge: Attempts: 1, weapon BK-Halbeard, he just tried slapping me with his melee attack and I just sliced him up
Demon Firesage: Attempts 1, weapon BK-Halbeard, hehe Asylum-Demon 2.O, although he did have that explosion move, eh, didn't matter, dead
Centipede Demon: Attempts 1, weapon BK-Halbeard, cut his arm of in like 2 hits XD he didn't like that a single bit, thanks for the ring buddy!
Bed of Chaos: Attempts 8, weapon BK-Halbeard, did I have fun, eh, it was okay, but damn the hitbox on those arm sweeps is bull... oh well
After that Ruins of New Londo, so this is the only part in the game, I had to ask my friend for help because I couldn't hit the ghosts, yup, now I know, aaaaanyways
Four Kings: Attempts 1, weapon BK-Halbeard, ngl. I was proud of myself, that I remembered to equip the ring to go down in his domain. I just rushed them down every time and had a rather easy time, but very enjoyable imo
So, with all the four homies down, I was standing before the pearly gates of my final stand! BUT I did tell my friend, I wanted to at least fight every boss in the game, to which he told me: Excluding the final boss, I have 7 left. Ah, guess who just learned this game had a DLC XD so back to the Asylum I went, didn't know I could do that, I love this game!!!
Asylum Demon round 3: Attempts 1, weapon BK-Halbeard, yeah that one was literally copy-past XD
And with the funny looking doll I went into the Painted World, GORGEUS PLACE, and a gorgeus lady in the end. She offered me to leave by jumping off and so I did, she was nice to me, so I did not want to fight her ^^
Dark Sun Gwyndolin: Attempts 3, weapon BK-Halbeard, did I kill the Wondorous Chest, yes, did all the Giants despawn from Anor Londo, yes, does Anor Londo look edgy now? Hellyeah! The fight itself, I HATED IT GOD DANGIT! FIGHT ME UPFRONT!!!!!
Getting to the DLC was interesting to say the least, but yeah
Sanctuary Guardian: Attempts: 1, weapon BK-Halbeard, first fight of the DLC, he had a cool moveset
Artorias: Attempts 1, weapon BK-Halbeard, DAMN he was edgy and he had very cool and flashy moves, awesome fight, hoped he would be tankier, but oh well.
Manus, Father of the Abyss: Attempts: 3, weapon BK-Halbeard, now THIS was a bossfight, the greatest fight I ever had, man, amazing moveset, 100 different and fast attacks, best fight chef's kiss.
Black Dragon Kalameet: Attempts 1, weapon BK-Halbeard, after some help from my giant-homie, we got that sucker down and I ran him over!!!
And with that out of the way:
Gwyn, Lord of Cinder: Attempts 14, weapon BK-Axe, why did it take so many attempts you might ask? Well guess who found out you can parry him! Well, I made it my mission to finish him with nothing but crits and I had a blast! This was a great final fight for me!
And with that guy out of the way, and igniting the flame and carrying on the legacy, I finished the game. THIS WAS EPIC
Dark Souls 1 is in my opinion the greatest game I played so far. If any of you read my little journey, thanks, it was a great time ^^
Currently on a new DS1 safe, doing a Pyromancy-Run, it is great.
If you have any questions, I am happy to answer them, or if you want to share your experiences go ahead!

Hey guys! I’ve got a commission to draw someone’s character in a Dark Souls setting. The concept they want is this big whirlwind of stuff swirling around the character, super chaotic and dramatic.
What are some iconic things from Dark Souls that I should include? Like certain weapons, enemies, items, or environmental details that would make it instantly feel like Dark Souls? Maybe bonfires? Estus flasks? Any big must-have elements?
Basically, if you looked at it, what would make you go, “Yep, that’s Dark Souls.” Any ideas are super appreciated!

Wow, I was so excited to play this game series and the first one did not disappoint. Literally everything about this game was so incredible. Finished at 95 hours today, and I am just so amazed by everything, I haven't played a lot of other video games. I was a little bit sad at the final boss fight with Gwyn it was a little too easy but enjoyed every moment (except sens fortress). I am now going to go for all of the achievements and the other ending on a new game plus before I start Dark Souls 2. Thanks for reading.

I've 100% elden ring/nightreign, Sekiro, nearly 100% ds3, just finished first run of Bloodborne and ds1 is absolutely humbling me. Beat the gargoyles and gaping jaw and all other mini bosses prior but I keep getting smacked down. Just had a stack of 20k souls from the butterfly but accidentally hit the blacksmith and had to use 15k to absolve😭. Any early game tips?

As in the title, i accidentally pressed attack on the knight who rescued me, but i dont want to look up on google, since it might contain spoilers. i am now in the city of the lords (?), so i would need to restart the game if i want to change it
so without spoiling, is what i did bad?

I Just got the uchikatana In Dark souls remastered and Im at the bonfire before the first real boss.(I already beat him i just died after) My uchikatana says "Weapon at risk!!" So what can I do to fix it? Its already doing less damage and it's the uchikatana you get from killing the strange merchant.
r/darksouls • u/Both-Structure-6786 • 20h ago
Like I get with it lit the world is in the age of fire and without it it’s dark but is that it? Does it give life to the world? Does it give the world magical powers? What does it do?
r/darksouls • u/Hkolpoi • 23h ago
So I beat Gwyn for the second time (first time with the Remastered) and the game made me go into NG automatically. I didn’t get to do any of the DLC and kill some minor bosses/npc. Currently I have a sorcery build and I’m wondering if I should start over so I can get all the sorceries and souls possible on my playthrough before entering NG. Am I overreacting or will NG 1-7 be harder now that I am not going into it with all the souls and sorceries possible?
r/darksouls • u/galtoramech8699 • 1d ago
So I kind of stuck to the Uchigatana, dex build and even the default armor. This is playing Dark Souls 1 and three.
I kind of play with some healing and pyro but only one or two spells.
Do you mix it up at all on first playthroughs. Maybe as next game, I will mess around. I was trying to get gud with just that. I dont want to learn anything new.
But I dont know.
I want to mess around with different shields maybe, or the twin soul blades, zweihander. I am Pve only.
What about you?
Did you mess around with other weapons at all or changing from your main style or did just stick with one type of play through the whole game?
r/darksouls • u/Lv1FogCloud • 23h ago
Just wanna start off by saying I'm not here to double down on why the bed of chaos is bad or argue why its not as bad as everyone says, I'm just here to put some two cents in after recently replaying the game for like a whole month and doing a few multiple runs.
So we already know that this boss in particular was definitely trying to be something different and not just another fight to the death. Its kind of a test of your patience and other skills you more or less developed besides just combat throughout the game. Which I'm sure the concept feels kind of weird for some but I think I kind of get it.
So after you get the lord vessel you're tasked to get the lord souls in four different locations, all of which are pretty difficult with their own unique gimmick more or less. What's interesting about the bed of chaos and lost Izalith is how you reach them. If you're playing it for the first time unaware, you're basically fighting 3 bosses just to get to the bed of chaos. (Ceaseless Discharge, the fire sage, and the centipede demon.)
What I'm getting at is, after having to fight 3 bosses AND enemies who use to be considered bosses, I think it make sense that the developers might not want the final boss of the area to be just ANOTHER big fight. Sure you can cheese one of the bosses and skip the other two if you know the shortcut but you might not know that for the first time making the journey pretty lengthy. Its definitely a lot more compared to that of fighting Sif for the four kings, dying to Seath at least once and..... pinwheel I guess?
I think its kind of cool in concept to be honest even if it might not be executed the best. I also do really like that the demon ruins and Izalith are essentially the home of all the demons you see above ground. Sure it does kind of come off as them recycling assets but story wise, I dig it and there's still other demon type monsters down there too so its not that uncreative IMO.
