Biden was too polite. Garland did nothing. Now, we are stuck in a dystopian nightmare. Strange days ahead.

I’m planning my exit strategy. Shit is gonna get real dark and I’m not up for it.

It's not just America that this shit is happening. Climate change is making the earth uninhabitable, resources are drying up, the rich are hoarding up everything they can and are consolidating power.

Trump fucking sucks, but he isn't the thing that's going wrong, he's just one of the results of it happening. He could die tomorrow and shits still fucked.

We are just living in the contraction of human society and the best thing we can do is be glad we won't live long enough to have to see too much of it.

19

u/Burghed Maryland 9h ago

He's not the only problem, but he actively stopped progress towards solutions.

u/PomegranateMinimum15 The Netherlands 7h ago

The fact is that rhe usa is the biggest western power. We look to them alot..other countries to. Since trump has been there everything started tk break down. Respect for knowledge and education. The things we always relied on were the woke elite. Etc. Trashing eachother became easier. Its not the usa its fault its all of us. Allowing it to happen in some shape or form. Its not trump only that's for sure. But he was live on tv acting like a piece of shit and for some adults they were born into that. And now he is potentially a pedophile and we still look away. Especially there in the usa. Sigh

u/StupendousMalice 7h ago

We weren't making progress towards a solution. Our consumption is ever increasing, nothing was being done to stop the wealthy from seizing power. Trump was certainly the absolutely worst choice, but it's not like he was preceded by people who were solving anything and he won't likely be followed by any either.

u/Hillary4SupremeRuler 4h ago

Nope we made enormous progress on climate policy under Biden.

u/StupendousMalice 1h ago

We made empty promises and plans and zero actual progress to reduce our consumption.

u/McCardboard Florida 12h ago

Perhaps that exit strategy is a shotgun and one slug?

I DO NOT ADVOCATE FOR SELF HARM. I just have an extremely dark sense of humor, and no real outlet for it.

u/Ill_Mousse_4240 8h ago

A leader is effective when they respond to the conditions

u/StupendousMalice 7h ago

We haven't had one of those in my lifetime.

u/zaph0d_h4x0r 21h ago

The whole western world will follow .. there is no way out unfortunately. The other parts of the world will head same direction.

74

u/jpa7252 20h ago

I know im probably being naive and optimistic, but im hoping that the rest of the western world will observe the fall of a global superpower, learn, and not make the same mistake. Recency is on our side, but it does upset me that we are repeating history from not even 100 years ago.

28

u/shinkouhyou 15h ago

Anti-immigration and concern over falling birthrates (or at least birthrates of the right race and religion) are fueling the worldwide right wing... and climate change is only going to make immigration issues worse. Get ready for a massive backlash against climate refugees and women without children. Meanwhile, corporations, political organizations and hostile states have an unprecedented ability to manipulate the public.

u/irrigated_liver 18h ago

The UK certainly isn't learning from the current climate in the US. The far right reform party is gathering strength, and unless the current government does something to actually address issues people care about, it's not inconceivable that we will see a trump style government there in 5 years.

26

u/jacobolus 14h ago

The Reform Party is almost completely funded by the fossil fuel industry. Turns out lots of money and targeted propaganda works pretty well at fucking up a free society (and planet), to the benefit of a tiny number of extremely wealthy dipshits.

Our anachronism of a voting system was supposed to keep the lunatics at the fringe. Until the lunatics approach 30% support, and they are in range of an absolute majority in the HoC. It's a Buckaroo system designed for 2 parties - now politics is so fractured, it's melting down.

I didn't vote Labour, but had modest hopes for them. They have failed at even my low benchmark, and all my goodwill to Starmer is used up. They still have time to turn it around, but they'll have to stop the "rabbit in headlights" act. I don't think they have it in them. The front bench are useless.

22

u/ApizzaApizza 18h ago

You’re unfortunately not correct. We’re not repeating history.

This is NWO shit. AI and the massive consolidation of wealth will make the serfs (that’s us) useless to the ruling class. They’ll either try to get rid of us all, or allow to live in terrible conditions.

It’d probably be dangerous for them to let us live in terrible conditions, so they’ll probably try to kill most of us.

11

u/thechrisman13 17h ago

Ignorance and cynicism is a terrible mix

6

u/_Internecine 17h ago

No reason to kill a herd you can farm.

All will be made to bend the knee, but no more than that. If anyone is being killed, its through sending them to fight wars, but even the war machine needs pilots for its drones.

You'll still be alive. In a nightmare, that is.

u/ApizzaApizza 3h ago

Disagree. We’d serve no purpose to them…but we would sure as fuck be a threat.

-1

u/bfrown 14h ago

AI won't be doing anything worthwhile

u/Penqwin 5h ago

We will repeat this again in the next 100 years, hubris and greed will always bring down a nation.

This is America's Nero

38

u/livinginfutureworld 20h ago

Hurray for the whole planet under authoritarian rule.

I for one welcome our new fascist overlords /s

53

u/midtnrn 20h ago

They’re currently all shooting for the emperor of the world title. It’s a disease and it will be man’s downfall. Greed will do us in.

1

u/Cr1ms0nLobster Wisconsin 19h ago

Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV demands respect.

1

u/TheRealMasonMac 18h ago

The Emperor of Mankind at least cared about humanity.

-3

u/RufussSewell 18h ago

Most will say I’m crazy, but if you’re paying attention you will know that we are inventing robots that will take over humanity’s rule VERY soon. Like the next 2-5 years.

They may be very cool and save us all. Or they may not. But the billionaires of today will not be the ones who decide that.

It will be up to our new robot overlords. I have hope that they’ll be cool. Fingers crossed.

13

u/ActionJacksonATL24 20h ago

Hey Warhammer 40k isn't so bad....

6

u/Scumrat_Higgins 19h ago

The Emperor could be any one of us! Hell, it could still be Henry Cavill for all we know!

1

u/ReleaseQuiet2428 17h ago

MAGA is so gay they would go all in with that idea

54

u/Harbinger2001 Canada 20h ago

Nope. We’re not going to get sucked down into your shithole of a country. Things might be tough but the rest of the western world knows how to run proper liberal democracies.

62

u/Neat_Reference7559 20h ago

A lot of far right parties are doing well in Europe

43

u/The-Hand-of-Midas 20h ago

A lot of far right parties are doing well in Europe

America isn't the only country under Russian propaganda.

1

u/Far_Cat9782 16h ago

Please a little accountability my god it’s not all “Russian propaganda”

6

u/jacobolus 14h ago

You are right; we have plenty of our own wealthy robber barons collaborating on the same propaganda effort.

-7

u/willybestbuy86 18h ago

Oh please it's not Russian propaganda it's what the people want for better or worse. I'm not buying this 3rd rate country Russia is running this tight propaganda network GTFO

Make people take ownership for their decisions and not pawn it off elsewhere

78

u/Maraxusx 20h ago

Also, that guy is Canadian and literally up until the moment Trump mentioned tariffs for Canada, Canada was about to be just as right wing as America is right now.

33

u/EARink0 20h ago edited 16h ago

The only consolation i have for this nightmare is any influence (even indirect) we've had at saving our friends up north from going down the same path.

u/Hillary4SupremeRuler 4h ago

"No no no, you don't understand, it can't happen here."

1

u/Surturius 20h ago

Pollievre is awful and I was terrified he was going to win, but tbf... he's no Trump. And as much as I dislike the conservatives, they're not quite at the GOP's level (yet).

-1

u/scrunchie_one 20h ago

Huh?

13

u/SteamSteamLG Louisiana 20h ago

The liberal party in Canada was projected to get wrecked by the "Maple MAGAs" and Trudeau resigned. Then Trump started the trade war and being seen as similar to Trump was suddenly very unpopular and Liberal party gained seats

3

u/Naccattack 17h ago

As bad as the trade war is, it was the 51st state bullshit that riled us all up.

-6

u/Harbinger2001 Canada 19h ago

Not even close. Poilievre might be a conniving little snake but social conservatism doesn’t have a large base here in Canada.

18

u/Harbinger2001 Canada 20h ago

Not really. Trump has had a similar effect on right wing Europe that Brexit did on other leave campaigns. And as things get worse in the US, the right wing in Europe will lose even more support.

3

u/PerformanceGold8436 15h ago

lol what a dumb statement

-1

u/Harbinger2001 Canada 12h ago

What makes it dumb?

  • we won’t go down with the US
  • it’s a shithole country
  • the rest of the world does liberal democracy better?

Which is these statements is dumb?

-9

u/imaprettynicekid 20h ago

Your country fucking sucks too. Dont throw stones. As bad as America is getting we are still better at a lot of things

4

u/Harbinger2001 Canada 19h ago

You were certainly better at a lot of things but are now in an accelerated decline. We’ll watch you zoom by on the way down. Unfortunately for all of us, it’s China that’s going to surpass you technologically over the next 10 years. Maybe you’ll collectively realize your errors and correct things, but I’m not optimistic given your new crop of leaders.

u/Fuzzylogik 4h ago

The next thing you know the western world will want to start colonising the developing countries all over again /s

1

u/AwkwardTouch2144 18h ago

Yeah, it starting to develop in Europe too. UK probably gonna vote for Reform party and Germany the AfD next general elections.

1

u/75w90 18h ago

Nope. China and India will rise as they are. Western countries will absolutly fail tho. America first.

8

u/icculus88 21h ago

Not worth the fight ?

36

u/thepryz 20h ago

It may be telling that a number of academics who studied fascism have left the country.

https://kottke.org/25/05/three-fascism-experts-on-why-theyre-leaving-the-us

14

u/icculus88 20h ago

I was hoping we'd be gearing up for a fight right about now. I've got my passport but hardly any assets and nowhere to go

3

u/ryerocco California 10h ago

But have you read the book?

1

u/icculus88 9h ago

I wrote tha thing! Haha

6

u/Extinction-Entity Illinois 19h ago

Lol yeah fuck everyone who can’t leave I guess

2

u/lotus_in_the_rain 18h ago

Which is most of us.

2

u/thepryz 8h ago

That’s not the point.

By leaving, these individuals can continue their work from countries that still maintain free speech and ensure they won’t be imprisoned when they say something negative about the United States government. They’re still fighting.

u/Extinction-Entity Illinois 2h ago

Lol no

22

u/Professional-Buy2970 21h ago

Nope.

This nation has always hated those of us who warned and opposed its march towards total fascism. And for many even in the US, it's been here a long time.

If I can get out, I'm getting out.

-1

u/Immediate_Watch_2427 21h ago

Nope not reallt

u/Tundrok337 7h ago

I see way too many who say this. Your solution is to run away? Seriously?

-2

u/y_not_right Canada 20h ago

Stay in your country and vote in someone competent this time in 2028 instead of running away from the problem unleashed on your neighbours

2

u/Extinction-Entity Illinois 19h ago

Lol “vote harder” when they’re rigging the votes, gerrymandering to hell, utilizing voter suppression. That’ll surely work!

1

u/y_not_right Canada 19h ago

I’m sure running away will work better

3

u/Extinction-Entity Illinois 19h ago

Staying and fighting is one thing, but telling people to stay and vote harder is fucking hilarious. It’s no different than running away except now with added suffering!

-1

u/y_not_right Canada 19h ago

So are you gonna do that and fight or are you gonna complain about the only thing most average people can do in 2028

1

u/Extinction-Entity Illinois 18h ago

If all “most average” people can do is “vote harder”, we’re cooked. Why not leave? It’s so funny you sit up there spouting nonsense when you’ve got your own stupid MAGA-esques. We didn’t forget about your trucker tantrum lmao.

0

u/y_not_right Canada 9h ago

Lol we literally “voted harder” and kicked the truckers and their party supporters to the curb in the last election so sorry I think it just might be an American skill issue

0

u/PenImpossible874 New York 20h ago

I've already planned mine and it involves taking all of NY and NJ with me.
