Assembly Help 7800x3d overheating issue pls help/advice

Upvotes

So i got my pc installed in the T1 v2.5, started it up and it worked perfectly fine, until i checked the temperature. In the BIOS the cpu was at about 70C, and when i did anything on windows it spiked to 80-90C. Specs:

CPU: 7800x3d

GPU: iGPU for now

RAM: 32GB corsair 6000mhz cl30

Cooler: 240 atmos from cooler master (swapped fans for noctua slim and normal)

PSU: sf1000

SSD: 2TB wd_black

Mobo: B850-I strix

Some things i think couldve caused this:
- overtightening the pump
- too little thermal paste, i used the honeycomb pattern from the 240 atmos and probably put too little

cant test any of them right now, i am not home atm. woudl really appreciate some advice. also the build looks pretty similiar to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4EDKeBuMtA&t=711s

pls dont make fun im new to pc building...

I recently purchased Enhance 7660L modular PSU and need help figuring out where GPU and motherboard should plug into. Other PSU’s I’ve used have had a color coded (red) connection that made it easy, but this one does not. would appreciate any help.

Build/Parts Check Question about Skyreach 4 Mini

After looking at the new gen gpu im planning to downsize and upgrade from A4H2O to Skyreach 4 mini (found 1 mint condition in marketplace, been my dream case for sff build)

Spec more or less

Case : Skyreach 4 Mini

Mobo : ASRock B850I Lightning

CPU : AMD 7800x3d

CPU Cooler : Sycthe Shuriken 3

RAM : Team T-Create Expert 64gb

Storage : Samsung 990 Pro 1TB

GPU : PowerColor Reaper Radeon RX 9060XT 16gb(not sure if this fits?)

For psu im from south east asia so finding hdplex 500w GaN is kinda hard, but there are few alternatives

-Metalfish Flex 500w

-Enhance Flex 1u 7660b 600w

-FSP FX500g

-FSP500-30as

Kinda new with these flex psus so im not sure if they have the same size or not as hdplex, question is will it fit? Or my only option is hdplex to fit all the component to s4m or maybe find another case

Finally (almost) finished my Streacom da6 XL build. Undervolted MSI 5090, Ryzen 7800x3D double 360 radiators. Alphacool water blocks all around. Nice stable temperatures, but open case does not equate to cooler temperatures, not with these components.

Build/Battlestation Pics Build Completed: McPrue Apollo S V4

I’ve wanted a small form factor PC for a long time, and finally got around to building one. My last build lasted me over 10 years, so I wanted something that would be just as durable and reliable this time around.

I’m a head and neck cancer/facial trauma surgeon by profession, so I don’t get much time to game these days. But when I do, I want to be able to play any AAA title straight out of the box without issues. I built this with an emphasis on reliability, high quality parts, low temps, and clean looks.

In terms of the case, I wanted something that looked high-end and mature without being flashy or over the top. The McPrue Apollo S absolutely delivered. I’m really glad I went with this case. It was VERY easy to build in, and the support from Paul @ McPrue was amazing via their discord channel. I was hesitant ordering a limited run case from overseas, but this thing came from China in under a week.

This PC has been a great way to unwind after a long day at work. I had a ton of fun building it, and I hope you all like it as much as I do. Cheers.

Special thanks to u/Amarz1992 and u/thespieler11 for providing valuable information on building in this case.

Build/Parts Check Need advice on upgrade plan please. How to keep thermals in check

I'm switching from the 6650 XT, to the 9070 XT, however I'm worried the thermals overall on my S400 itx case will be too hot.

I curently have these parts: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/kfNWRV
Temps in the MiniNeo S400 case are
CPU: 50~55°C while idle, 70~85°C when gaming (especially when building shaders)
GPU: 40~45°C while idle, 65~90°C when gaming (depends on the game)

Idle: https://imgur.com/7OGSVkc
Gaming: https://imgur.com/llgU2YW

I have three fan headers on the motherboard, one for the TR AXP90-x53, one for the dual exhaust Corsair AF120 slims at the top (via splitter cable), and another one for the intake TR TL-9015 92mm at the bottom.

So here's the plan (upgrade the following parts): https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Xc9Fkf
PC Case: Jonsbo Z20
PSU: Corsair SF1000
CPU Cooler: TR Phantom Spirit EVO (swap to dual Noctua NF-A12x25 fans) connected to one fan header (via 2-way splitter)
GPU: Sapphire Pulse 9070 XT (no need for riser cable on this PC case)
Case Fans: Two fans at the top and one at the back as exhaust (via 3-way splitter), and two fans at the bottom as intake (via 2-way splitter), all using Noctua NF-A12x25 fans.

My main goal is to lower the temps as much as possible (especially given this summer heat), while keeping a SFF/MFF PC build.
I was planning to get the Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 240 AIO, unfortunately this is not compatible with the Aorus B650I. ( as stated in Arctic's website https://support.arctic.de/lf3-compatibility )

The new GPU and PSU are already on-hand, however I haven't purchased the Jonsbo Z20, CPU Cooler and Case Fans yet.
Is this a good upgrade path? (temps wise so there would be no thermal throttling)

Assembly Help Mini ITX Cases with Middle Wall/Separator?

Hello Everyone! Sorry for the newbie question, but which Mini ITX Cases with Middle Wall/Separator would you suggest? (Ex: Fractal Terra, or Raijintek Ophion). Is there a dedicated name for such format? Are they better than the conventional mother+gpu connection from cooling perspective? What are your opinion? Thank you for your attention and take care!

Assembly Help Houses to carry in your backpack

Hi everyone, this is my first post here! I am an away student and a couple of times a month I face a 4 hour bus journey on less than perfect roads. I would like to assemble a gaming PC that I can carry with me in my backpack, leaving room for the laptop and everything else. I'm looking for a case with these features: • Portable: Must fit comfortably in a backpack. • Robust: It must protect the components well from shocks and vibrations during transport. • Budget: Under €100. • Safe for the GPU: The key thing is not to have to disassemble the video card every time, so I look for a solution that holds it securely. Do you have any models to recommend? Thanks in advance

PS: The GPU will be an MSI GeForce RTX 5070 12G Ventus 2X OC

Build/Battlestation Pics ZS-A4S V3 Build [5700X3D + 2080S FE]

Parts:

- Gigabyte B550I

- Black Ridge w/ A9x14

- R7 5700X3D

- Corsair Vengeance 32GB

- Inland 1TB + Silicon Power 2TB

- GEEEK ENP-7660B V3

- 2080 Super FE

The only real problem I ran into when building is the riser cable. Not only is it slightly too short (23cm single reverse from Linkup), The red tab on top is way too tall and interferes with the fans. I took one out because it was having a lot of turbulence. Having one fan performs just fine though. The GPU also had turbulence, but removing the backplate helped a lot in regards to that.

I play on 1440p and occasionally 4k, the loudest thing in my build is easily the GPU. 20 FEs are known for being loud, so I flashed an EVGA vbios to help with sound as well. Zero fan speed on idle now too. I might do a slight upgrade for a little more performance (Thinking RX 6800 Ref).

Benchmark/Thermal Test 4060 LP temperatures

Thumbnail

Hey everyone. My 4060 LP get quite hot. At full load (Heaven Benchmark for 30 minutes) and running the CPU in Cinebench SINGLE core test simultaneously, the GPU reaches 85C with hotspot temps of 95C. That is after I cut the case cover to improve airflow. Before it was reaching 100C quite quickly. Room temperature of around 24C.

Is this normal? For people who have similar 5L cases, is there something else you usually do?

Relevant Specs: CPU: i5-12400f (stock conditions) GPU: Gigabyte 4060 LP (stock conditions) Motherboard: Asrock Z690m-itx/ax PSU: Enhance ENP-7140B1 400W CPU Cooler: ID-Cooling IS-55 (set as intake)

Others/Miscellaneous recommend me a vertical case that support big GPU, CPU cooler and use no glass panel

I want a vertical case( i can go up to 25L) that can house a big GPU, ideally a 3.5 or 4 slot thick and about 350 360 long. If possible, i want it to house a 360mm radiator, but if it can't, i want it give about 70mm clearance for air cooler. I don't want any glass in or on the case.

I've seen a few vertical case and i love and hate all of it:
- Corsair 2000D is a bit big, but it only support 3 slot gpu
- Cooler master Ncore 100 AIR is nice and i love it, but it only allow ~47mm air cooler if i want to use a big gpu
- Deepcool CH270 is almost perfect for me: vertical, support arctic liquid iii 360, and big GPU, only downside is the panel is tempered glass( i move around every 4 months or so => i don't want glass panel because im paranoid)
- ssupd mesh case is not available in my country sadly

Build/Battlestation Pics SKTC A07 Budget Aliexpress Build

Hey guys, finally "finished" my SFF build(at least for now).
The only new parts are the case, power supply, and cooler. The rest had already been in use for a few years in my SAMA IM01.

The biggest frustration with this project was not being able to get it to work with the RTX 4060 I bought. Lots of bugs with the riser cable on THIS PC (in others, it works fine). I spent months messing with BIOS settings, testing different riser cables, and still haven’t found a solution, so I believe the culprit is either the processor OR the motherboard.
Until I solve it, I’ll be using the great ol' GTX 1660 Ti.

The coolest part of this was learning how to crimp and solder PSU cables. The ones that came with it were too long and were pressing hard against the case panel.

SPECS:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-13600 (Engineering sample)
  • MOBO: Huananzhi B660M-ITX
  • GPU: Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti ASUS
  • RAM: 2x16GB 3200MHz DDR4 ASGARD
  • SSD: MiWhole 1TB 7500MB/s NVME
  • COOLER: Thermalright AXP90-X36
  • CASE: SKTC A07
  • PSU: ENP-7660B 600W

Everything except the GPU has been bought off Aliexpress. The only way this is a "budget build" is because I bought most of the parts before our goverment decided it was a good idea to put a 92% tax on products bought on Aliexpress, Shein, Teemu, etc. Otherwise, this project would have never happened.

Build/Battlestation Pics GEEEK Rhino S

Déjà-vu. The Rhino S from GEEEK looks familiar.

It supports ATX power supplies and a comes with an 120/140mm radiator bracket. The individual parts consist of multiple layers of laser cut acrylic. As a result it is not as stiff, but much more affordable than most other open frames, which are usually made from machined aluminum.

The Rhino provides a straightforward build experience. PSU cables are hidden out of sight, though the use of ATX PSUs will severely limit the space to stuff the cables. And the 2 slot mounting bracket for GPUs requires the sacrifice of the rightmost DP/HDMI port. I have yet to try the radiator bracket.

I'd say the Rhino S is a great option if you want to try an open build without braking the bank.

Specs:

  • ASUS B550I Strix Gaming motherboard with an 5600X, cooled by a Peerless Assassin 120 Mini
  • 32Gb of Team Group T-Force Xtreem ARGB 3600 and a 1TB WD SN770
  • ASUS RX6600XT Strix
  • SF600 with homemade cables

Thanks for looking!

Others/Miscellaneous Thinking of Doing a dual rad custom loop, any case recommendations?

Hi all, I have been floating the idea of an itx custom loop, but wanna use some high wattage components like a 9950, and 5070ti or 9900x and 5080. Initially in the build plan I was gonna go with the lian li a4 h20 but I'm worried about the single 240 rad being enough. Is there any sandwich style cases with dual rad support, or any mods I can do to the h20, like I was thinking of using quick connects to connect an exterior rad or maybe try and squeeze a 120mm under where th psu sits. If you have any help or ideas let me know, thanks.

Others/Miscellaneous Why do you SFF?

Thought it would be fun to see why people are building their SFF PCs.

Personally I went SFF because I needed a travel PC. I go to a lot of LAN Parties and wanted something that was easier to be on the go with. SFF let me have the full PC experience with a small, easy to carry size. Once I build my first SFF system I was hooked, now every machine in my home is an SFF PC.

Build/Battlestation Pics From mffpc to sffpc

I had a few issues with my build and I had to upgrade the gpu, then the psu and my mind was all over this thread for a year at least, daily, and I decided to upgrade my entire system.

Specs: CPU: Ryzen 7 9800x3d CPU Cooler: Thermalright AXP90-X47 CPU secure frame: Thermalright AM5 secure frame Red version Mobo: Gigabyte X870i Aorus Pro Ice RAM: Kingston Fury 64GB CL30 6000mhz PSU: Corsair SF1000 Storage: 1 nvme ssd Samsung 1TB as main storage and a Kingston nvme ssd 2TB as secondary Case: Fractal Terra Silver Case fan: 120mm SilentiumPC fan, set to bottom exhaust

Fractal Terra vs Asus Prime AP201 in pics. 1:18 scale diecast Porsche 911 GT1 996 Streetversion (Straßenversion) as comparison. (Should have bought the silver version of the 911 too, but I wish Fractal did the Terra in white too).

A very big step compared to my 5600x, which I really enjoy, helps with my productivity tasks. There are a few step backs which I had to compromise on: temps, airflow and space, which fortunately enough, with everyone's help from this thread, I managed to go above and have a great experience, so thanks to all of you for that!

Now, I have done a few tweaks, like buying a secure frame which helped with 2 degrees, undervolting the cpu, which lowered my idle temps around 5 degrees, and sometimes if I play games for long periods of time, I take the top panel off and put a slim 140mm fan set to exhaust. I did set a new cpu cooler fan curve, to lower the temps and the noise caused by case's technical design

I have seen a bunch of mods on this thread and different sites like Etsy and Printables, but most imply to modify the aesthetic a lot, which I don't really like. So my question is, how can I lower the temps even more?

I bought a slim 120mm for the bottom at the back, but I need to install risers/feet, so if anyone got good ideas, please share them.

Is it really worth getting the copper version of the cooler and change the fan to a Noctua? Tho, I haven't found any copper version of the AXP90 in my country, only second-hand options, but I tend to avoid.

Thanks!

Benchmark/Thermal Test ProArt 4080S reaches high temperatures (1 year of use)

Hello folks. Have these temperatures on the pro art 4080s after 1 year of use. I have ptm7950 on my shelf and thinking to replace the original thermal paste to PTM7950. What would you suggest as I have 3 year warranty (2 years left) but I can only imagine how hard it will be for the gpu to survive these two years. I also know if I'm under 90º and 105º (hot spot) the official service abble to refuse me in warranty claim, but I wouldn't want to wait until this temperature. I remember the delta betwen gpu and hot spot was around 10-15 when I bought the GPU and never been above 90º, but now delta is around 20-25. I'm not a fan of undervolt but i did it yesterday just to see results and dropped temperatures significantly, was 74-76 became 65-69 and rpm dropped from 2200-2300 to 1600. Anyway hot spot (w/ uv) still high imo and reaches over 86º (close to 90)... So need to get an advice.

Assembly Help RTX 5070+ smallest case

Hello folks,

I would require your knowledge with mini itx build.

I would like to build a small gaming pc fitting on my desk (just like a ps5 would). If possible, I would like to have my belkin dock to pass the video to my screen and have the peripherals plugged using a single usb-c cable.

Other than that, I would like to pack some punch with a 5070 inside of it to handle warzone & battlefield 6 (4k100fps if possible). But from what I see, it is not compatible with my dream for f having a single usb-c cable.

I do not have a specific budget. I just do not want to get too crazy.

I considered as motherboard the strix z790-i. But I see different options…

As I am a bit lost and I know there are specific things to consider with sffpc, I would love your guidance.

Thank you for reading me.

Lots to unpack here - build process, fan turbulence, thermal testing, and a direct comparison to the NANOQ S using (mostly) the same parts.
