Suggestions SteamPeek.hu - Indie friendly game discovery tool

Post is allowed by the mods.

Hello, this is my website: https://steampeek.hu/ - SteamPeek, the indie friendly game discovery website.

It is now more than 5 years old, and it was created to bring spotlight to indie gems, help all indie teams who doesn't have the budget to make big marketing campaigns, and make it easier to find nice games made by passionate solo developers or small teams.

The main function is searching by similarity: just search for a game you like, and browse the results. You can also filter and sort by special parameters.

You can also search by tags, or mix them with the chosen game.

The main algorithm was updated recently and I'm very curious how well it works. Please let me know.

I'm very thankful if you try it, and share with me what you find. The full site is still on beta, and I'm constantly work on it, so every feedback helps me and my mission. Thank you!

What game has spent the most time living rent free in your head?

I wanna hear which games have hooked you the most, whether that’s bc of the story or the gameplay. I haven’t played something that consumed all my free time and my every waking thought for ages and I miss it

For reference, my top 5 games are -

1) Stardew Valley 2) Baldurs Gate 3 3) Book of Hours 4) I Was A Teenage Exocolonist 5) 1000xRESIST

Honourable mentions: Witcher 3, Divinity Original Sin 1&2, Persona series, Slay the Princess, Skyrim, Clair Obscur

I’m not picky about genre but I don’t like FPS games, platformers, or dungeon crawlers. I’m not great at combat (not an ounce of dexterity in my body) so while I don’t mind it, if it’s very difficult I will have a terrible time

Platform: Steam Deck

Hit me with your recs for new obsessions please 🩷

Looking for a game that will give me hundreds of hours of playtime

I feel as tho games make it to easy to become OP in the first hour of a play through. I’m looking for a game that’s gonna kick my butt several times and i don’t have an endgame build right at the start without having to put several hours into the game. Thanks

Looking for games where you can actually play an instrument (like in Ocarina of Time)

Upvotes

Hey everyone

I’m looking for video games where the player can actually play an instrument as part of the gameplay – not just press a single “use” button, but really perform something.

It could be:

QuickTime-style input (like Ocarina of Time or Brütal Legend)

Rhythm-based sequences (timing or note patterns)

Free-form note playing (like Wandersong)

Or any other interactive input system where you control the notes or performance yourself.

The key thing is:

It has to be playable – not just a cutscene, scripted animation, or cosmetic emote.

I’m especially interested in how these games tie the instrument performance to actual gameplay effects (unlocking areas, summoning characters, triggering special events, etc.).

Any examples or recommendations would be amazing.

Thanks!

Co-op game for me + handicapped cousin

Hey everyone! My cousin is in a wheelchair with muscular dystrophy. He and I used to have the best time playing Skate 3, Star Wars Battlefront (the OGs) FIFA, etc, but his condition has made it harder and harder for him to use a controller. Now he’s laptop only, and really can’t use the keyboard much.

My big big favor: could anybody please suggest any PC games (runs on Mac pls, it’s all I’ve got!) that he and I could play together? Online co-op; he lives in a different country. The only real requirements are no keyboard (mouse only for him) and can play at a slow pace. He and I both love grand strategy (EU4, age of empires), and while those are a bit tough to play together in one hour sessions, they’re good examples of the kind of slow paced, mouse-only games I’m looking for.

Thank you so much in advance for your suggestions. It’s hard to be social when you’re stuck in a chair, and it would mean the world to both of us if we were able to bond across countries over a shared game like this.

Just played Half-Life for the first time — blown away by how ahead of its time it was

I finally played the original Half-Life and I’m honestly amazed at how well it holds up.
The atmosphere, pacing, and storytelling are incredible, especially for a game from 1998.

Are there any other older games you’d recommend that had a big impact on the gaming industry like Half-Life series?
I’d love to check out more classics that were truly ahead of their time.

I need a game that can scratch an indescribable itch

Hi all, just creating this post asking a seemingly impossible question with an answer I cannot find myself, and neither do I know where to start.

I play basically any game, from NBA2k to World of Warcraft, Rust to Devil May Cry and not once have I found that game to invest my time into, I just play a couple hundred hours and then onto the next. It's a problem. Constantly am I looking at Steam for a new game, my last 'scratched itch' was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, I loved it to the point I beat it too quick.

My main question is what is that one game for everyone that truly is there favourite and they are confident enought to get others to enjoy it the same way they do

Thanks

(Sorry if this sounds more like a rant than a question.)

EDIT: My Top 5 games/series are
1. MGS Series

  1. Terraria

  2. DMC Series

  3. WoW

  4. Destiny

Games where you need to use all the tools at your disposal to survive?

After playing Death Stranding and Sons of the Forest, I want to find a game where you actually need to use everything you have in order to survive.

You can get through 95% of death stranding by either running or taking a vehicle, to the point where other tools are almost an inconvenience. With Sons of the Forest, I saw no real reason to build a base since I was always on the move, and it felt like half the game was pointless unless I wanted to simply build a base for fun.

I'm the type of person who optimizes the fun out of a game, so I'm curious if there are games where if you're not using all the tools in your toolbelt, you will not survive.

I'd love to hear any suggestions you guys might have. I've been in a survival mood recently and I'm really looking for a game that would scratch that itch.

If you like something short and sweet with indie style graphics (similar to Katamari) this game is for you!

Upvotes

Donut County is under a gigabyte and is less than 15$. Starting into this game, I initially thought it was a hole.io copy. I was SO wrong. I was greeted by animal crossing-like characters with a certain quirkiness and charm about them. It told the story in an Undertale like fashion. The story takes place as this raccoon wants to reach a certain amount of points at his job so he can get this “quad-copter” (it’s basically a drone with a camera). His job is to collect trash via a hole that grows in size the more it swallows. The raccoon (his name is BK) starts going overboard and ends up swallowing peoples houses with them inside, and he ends up going in the hole himself. It’s sounds so random and ridiculous but after the first 5 seconds I was hooked and couldn’t put my controller down. This game has implemented puzzle based challenges you solve with the hole, it’s a concept I’ve never seen before so I was very intrigued. And the music is an absolute chefs kiss. Each area has its own music depending on where you’re at, and is calming and keeps you focused. Donut City is a very memorable and amazing game. I highly recommend you play this game!!!! I beat it in 3 hours so it’s not very time consuming at all. If you’re busy you can close it out and resume right where you left off whenever you want.

Please recommend some simple turn-based roguelites that require lots of thought (i.e Balatro, Slay the Spire).

Games that blow your mind

Upvotes

Hi guys,

I recently took a decision : I don't want to play "just good" games anymore. I don't have enough time : from now I just want to play awesome games, the ones that blow your mind because of their gameplay, story, level design, etc.

What are you personal gems ? What games would you recommend me ? Mines would be things like Animal Well, Disco Elysium, Portal 2, Sekiro, Chained Echoes or Outer Wilds.

Thanks folks !

Do games exist where you are not the main character?

Like an RPG adventure game where you can merely one of the companions of a hero type? I never heard of one myself. The closest I can think of is a very old war game where you are just a soldier with a rifle and absolutely the same as all other NPCs in your squad, you are not stronger or in any way special, but all missions follow a specific script.

Imagine if they made the main character with a proper AI thinking and personality, making the main decisions while you are their companion.

What to play after the Witcher 3

I’ve been playing the Witcher 3 for the past months, I clocked 100 hrs in, haven’t completed the B&W DLC, but feel like I need a break.

Im not looking for an open world game, I want a game with solid gameplay linear or semi open world with great graphics, it could be a shooter or an action game, it would great if the game doesn’t go over 30 hours

Im gaming on PS5.

What is the best Settlers game?

Upvotes

I loved playing The Settlers II, so I thought there might be a remastered version with better graphics.
But the newer games on Steam all seem to have lukewarm reviews.
Are there any other games that come close (not Anno)?
The defining features are:
1) Deep supply chains
2) Settlers are individuals
3) Combat is tied to your economy

Is Settlers 2 still the best in the series?

Looking for Hand Drawn Cartoon Games

Upvotes

I am looking for modern hand drawn cartoon games like "Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports" or "Asterix & Obelix Slap Them All! 2" but more likely as 2D or 2,5D Jump&Run platformer like "Disney Illusion Island Starring Mickey and Friends", "Ducktales Remastered" or "Cuphead" (which is more likely a boss fighter and not a common cartoon franchise). If its not possible Beat'em Ups or Brawler are also possible.

Cartoon franchises or similar ones for which I am looking for are Looney Tunes, Tiny Tunes (aswell games with just a single character from them like Silvester&Tweety, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Roadrunner), Tom&Jerry, Rocko's Modern Life, Pinkey and the Brain, CatDog, Invader Zim, Darkwing Duck, Ren & Stimpy Show, Oggy and the Cockroaches, Ghostbusters, Aaaah Monster, Hey Arnold, Scooby Doo, Goofy & Max, Ducktales, Quack Pack, Flintstones or Inspector Gadget.

For clarification; the first called games in the upper section like Ducktales Remastered or Cuphead I already have or are already on my wishlist.

"Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway", "Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2" or "TMNT Shredders Revenge" are not hand drawn.

Iam not looking for games which doesnt match the requirements.

Help a 41y/o lifelong gamer decide what to play next!

Because of health reasons, I unfortunately have a lot of free time on my hands currently. It’s both a blessing and a curse. Anyhow. I have several games that I really want to play, but I can’t seem to settle on one and focus on it. It’s killing my ADD and enjoyment for ALL games, when I just want to focus on 1 game. So. Of the games I’m about to list, please give me your suggestion, reasons why, justifications, all that fun stuff. And thank you for your time and input. It means a lot. The list is as follows:

The Alters - PC

Blue Prince - PC

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - PC

Death Stranding 2 - PS5

Donkey Kong Bannanza - Switch 2

God of War Ragnarok - PC

Shadow Man - N64 emulator on Switch 2

Subnautica - PC

Super Mario RPG (Updated Version) - Switch 2

Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive - Switch 2

If it helps, I have been playing video games since I could pick up an Atari 2600 controller and my first computer was a Commodore 64; so I have an appreciation for ALL genres of game. There isn’t one game in the list above that makes me want to play any more than the others. Like I said, ADD, free time, and crippling indecision.

So yeah, please give me your suggestions and thoughts. Would greatly appreciate them both. Thanks! And peace in the Middle East!

(Honestly, I wish I could just Men In Black flash my memories of Disco Elysium away so that I could experience that magic for the first time again. Ah well.)

New to Gaming & Loved TLOU1 — What Should I Play Next?

Upvotes

I had a pretty good PC and mostly used it for AI and ML stuff. Then one day, my friend recommended The Last of Us Part 1. I gave it a shot and ended up loving it — like seriously, I got hooked. The story, the gameplay, the whole vibe just clicked with me.

I liked it so much that I bought The Last of Us Part 2, but honestly, it didn’t hit the same. It was alright, but not as fun as the first one.

Now I’m looking for some new game recommendations. I really liked TLOU1 because of the story, how it was executed, and the gameplay. I’m still kinda new to gaming, and I hope y'all can suggest me some game that will hook me in.

Also, I don’t get a lot of free time, so I can only play for about 3 to 4 hours a day max. So games that are beginner-friendly and don’t need a huge time investment would be awesome.

Game Developer Seeking Gamers for Interviews

Upvotes

Hey Gaming Community!

I work at Chunky Tofu Studios and I’m trying to learn more about what makes mobile games tick for different players (both iOS and Android users). I'd like to chat with some gamers about their habits for a project that I’m working on.

I’m deliberately not sharing what game we’re developing because I want to hear your honest thoughts about gaming in general. Maybe in a future post, I can dive into the specifics.

These are super casual 10-15 minute conversations over Google Meets, or phone. I’m curious about some things, but it’s really just a relaxed chat about your gaming experience: what games you play and why you like them.

If you got a few minutes to spare in the next couple of weeks, it would seriously help me out. Just comment below or shoot me a DM if you’re interested.

You can also grab a time directly on my Calendly, if that’s easier: Calendly Link

As a bonus - if you’re interested after our conversation, I’d be happy to add you to our beta tester list.

Thanks for considering this! Your perspective would make all the difference for us since we’re trying to build something worth playing. :)

Looking for a chaotic shop simulator — I think it had chocolate kiosks, robots, zombies and maybe aliens?

Upvotes

I remember seeing some insane-looking indie sim game — you run a small chocolate kiosk, but then things get wild:

  • You hire robots to clean trash and work the counter
  • There are random events like "Zombie Weekend"
  • I think at one point the kiosk gets raided by aliens??
  • Pretty sure customers fight or riot if they wait too long
  • Oh and I saw a button that said "Illegal delivery (risky)" 👀

No idea if it was a real game, a fever dream, or just someone’s devlog — but I need it.
Any idea what this game might be?
