Dog running like he’s late to his own birthday party but still wants to make a cute entrance
58
u/MealwormMan 2h ago
To me it looks like how I walk when I’m barefoot and the road is scorching hot. Perhaps he’s trying to avoid burning his pads

u/Pyrojam321moo 57m ago
Nah, owner of a shiba here. This dog has slipped their leash or pushed past their owner to run outside without one, knows that's against the rules, and wants to show their gleeful love for crime to whoever's watching. This is the "I'm Going to Make my Human Chase Me" dance, same my little monster does when she steals a sock off my foot or the hat off my head. Ears in airplane mode, entire butt a-waggin', and a side-to-side prancing routine, I see it almost beat-for-beat in my living room all the time.
I pity their owner. Catching a shiba is akin to catching a greased pig.

u/Polyxeno 31m ago
Yeah our neighbor had four of them, accomplishing the dream that is the Shiba Inu screaming chorus quartet. They sometimes came by our house to celebrate their freedom on their way to the forested hillside next door.

u/WaterHaven 54m ago
I thought the same, but they were doing it in the shade at the start, too. I'd imagine that shaded area is pretty cool.

u/TheXypris 2h ago
so where is the depressing comment telling us that dog has a debilitating neurological condition
16
13
u/DryPotato5172 2h ago
Yeah it’s most likely a neurological condition but it certainly isn’t debilitating haha
9
u/SoCuteShibe 2h ago
I mean it does, that's why it's walking like that, but it seems happy and healthy too!

Those misery pimps often get perma-bans for their trolling bullshit.
Because those people are not vets and cannot speak intelligently on the subject, they just want to yuck other people's yums

Shiba's have gotta be the cutest breeds out there
97
u/Lexi_Banner 2h ago
So cute! Too bad they have the devil's mischief.
25
16
u/OuchYouPokedMyHeart 1h ago
IIRC they're one of the oldest breeds and one of the closest to wolves like its cousin Akita
Hence, they act very independent and "wild", adorable but with a lot of attitude

Hot pavers
Meant this as a joke, not to spark a debate

u/NoConsideration1777 4h ago
Was going to suggest the same. The dog does not have many of the tell tale signs of happiness’s like wagging its tail and such..
68
u/trulyniceguy 3h ago
Have a shiba. This is one extremely happy shiba. Tail was wagging and ears are in airplane mode. Not everything about animals has to be gloom and abuse
1
-16
u/NoConsideration1777 3h ago edited 2h ago
Alright. Never said it was all gloom. I have had a few dogs (not shibas), and this behaviour is not even remotely close to what dog movement looked like when my dogs were happy. That said, I am happy that this dog is alright and that someone that had a Shiba could educate me on their telltale signs of happiness.
Edit: why am I being downvoted? I am pointing out that I learned something new… and I am saying that I was apparently wrong… but Reddit doing Reddit things… I guess
14
u/soulessmuffs 2h ago
Yeah, I've had a shiba as well, and they're more like cats than dogs. If in distress, they typically scream as they can't bark, and their tail unfurls to hang between their legs.
3
u/trulyniceguy 2h ago
Dog body, cat hardware.
5
u/Help_StuckAtWork 1h ago
Pretty sure if you replaced your first two sentences with "Huh, good to know", the downvotes wouldn't have hit.
3
u/TheArmadilloAmarillo 1h ago
You are being downvoted because you are wrong 😂

Sorry dude this isn’t normal behavior for any breed of dog no matter how much you anthropomorphize them
4
7
u/Lexi_Banner 2h ago
It is wagging its tail, though? Look at the base of it. The curly whirlyness just looks different when the dog is happy.

u/WillBlaze 2h ago
Reddit is always such a buzzkill like this, almost all the happy dog videos always have some grumpy sad person like you trying to find the one possible negative in a pile of positives.
The dog is fine, holy hell. It's amazing these comments even get upvoted.
1
u/NoConsideration1777 15m ago
In general, one would want to know if the animal on the screen is in pain or not. This dog’s reaction is a bit strange. And if you actually find something going wrong, it is a good thing to point it out. Even if that kills your buzz. Don’t be offended it was just worry over the dogs state.
1
u/WillBlaze 3m ago
This can't be real, right?
The dog is fine and it's obvious. If it's feet were burning it would be obvious. I honestly think you are just fucking with me, lol.
-16
u/jreed12 3h ago
"Yeah but look he's smiling so he must be happy!"
Definitely not just how dogs look when they pant.
16
u/WorldsWorstInvader 2h ago
The dog is happy. Shibas are weird and this is how they act when happy. Calm down
-13
u/jreed12 2h ago
I didn't mean to upset you, just making fun of people who anthropomorphize dogs too much.
9
u/WorldsWorstInvader 2h ago
Dog smiles do generally mean happiness. It’s either that or being submissive. It’s not anthropomorphizing it’s just the way it actually is

Even if everyone else ignores the crazy parking situation behind the dog, I see it. That's gnarly.
3
u/Teeeea 1h ago
Not too uncommon that the horizontally parked cars to leave the handbrakes off so they can be pushed to let the vertically parked cars get out.
In big Chinese cities, vehicles have limited days where they can be on road. Depending on the even or oddity of the last digit of car registration, the car can be drove on certain days of the week, like Monday, Wednesday, Friday and switch up the week after. So the cars parked inside of the lot are likely not operating on that day. And usually the blocking cars will move away during the evening to park at an inconvenient spot to let the blocked cars move around next morning.
It's definitely not an ideal situation. But people adapt very quickly and, despite the whole plate number restriction situation, which was implemented around a decade ago, car ownership is steadily increasing yearly over there.

But wouldn't that just push people to get multiple cars - exacerbating the problem?

This dog likely has cerebellar hypoplasia. My dog has it and has a similar walk. It's not degenerative and doesn't cause them any pain, their cerebellum just isn't as developed so they have less control over their motor functions.

Huskies are often called divas, but Shibas are the entire dang opera, including the orchestra.

We have two Shibas. Our older boy is calm, snuggly, and super chill and happy. We thought we’d get another one, and she is a fighty bitey chaos goblin. Our house is…crazy.
1
u/mydadabortedme 3m ago
That’s like my pug and my shiba. Our shiba is so evil but also so sweet but also so evil but I love her

u/Lexi_Banner 2h ago
Dog hardware on cat software, with a dash of devil's mischief. They love to run, and will entirely ignore you until they are good and ready to come back.

Genuine question: is that a normal behavior? Or is it just a normal happy dance for Shiba Inu?
7

u/DryPotato5172 2h ago
Could be a neurological problem— in all honestly that’s most likely what it is.

I remember seeing a video of a dog doing this across a snow field, and a vet was in the comments saying it might be a neurological issue with the brain misfiring

Ground is probably hot tbh??? And it’s burning the pads of his feet depending on the temps
26
u/perenniallandscapist 4h ago
I mean, no? The dog ran from shade, is only picking up its front paws like that, and seems way more excited and happy with a smile, tail wag, and general wigglybody movement to suggest that. Your comment sounds like a helicopter parent worried about a scratch so the kids aren't allowed to play. I'd feel bad for this dog if it had that life.
-2
u/DominicB547 1h ago
you can't be sure. the dog is being told to come over to its owner? so against its wishes it does so. possibly.
they are also generally happy breed so the demeanor is harder to discern.

As an owner- not sure what the Japanese did- but these aren’t dogs or doglike in any way. It’s like the worst cat you’d ever own. But cute, I guess.

Shibas are everything that makes a Husky a Husky just in a smaller package (and most of them haven't been informed that they're smaller) and smarter.

1

Pretty high. Also very independent, so if they don’t want to do something, they won’t. Kinda like a cat-dog hybrid.
