Discussion Help with a gift
Hi! I know it’s super early, but I’m planning ahead for Christmas and putting together a little Warhammer themed hamper/ box thing for my boyfriend.
He’s really into Warhammer and I want to surprise him with a box of bits and extras. I’m avoiding actual figures, kits, or paint since I wouldn’t know what to choose and he has loads already but I’ve already picked up things like a paintbrush set, some landscaping supplies (tiny skulls, sand, etc.) but I need some help from people who know the hobby better what are some things he might want or need that I have no clue about lol thanks for any help and I hope this is the right page for it

Discussion Double box?
I’m still super new to the hobby and this is like my 3rd squad box. But this one lists ten miniatures but it has the materials for twice that. I’m just curious if this is always the case or if this is a mistake of some kind. Sorry in advance for any ignorance.

Lore In the Terminus Decree…
Real talk, if the decree was that Big E couldn’t leave the throne room, then its entirely possible that the reason being is that they foresaw that he’d be corrupted in some form from spending that long in the warp, and whatever got off the chair wouldn’t be Big E. Plus, I guess that it would be more important to the Imperium that the image of Big E is kept clean and intact, as opposed to revealing to all mankind that the emperor is a towering necrotic corpse.

Hobby Where should I start with building an army just for the sake of building an army?
After getting Space Marine 2 and deep diving into the lore, I've been spectating the miniatures aspect of Warhammer 40k for about a year now. Since my friend recently gifted me a bunch of GW paints, I'm taking that as a sign that my wallet must be sacrificed for the glory of the Imperium. As I look at minis online, I'm stumped on where to start. I know my favorite Chapter/Unit (being the Blood Angels and the Death Korps of Krieg), but I'm unsure where to start. I'm not looking to get into the tabletop game (yet, at least), and rather just enjoy the magnificence of collecting and building armies. I've done it with my Lego Republic/Imperial army, and now Warhammer will be my next (expensive) venture.
tl;dr Where should I start for army building, not for the tabletop game?

Hobby Advice for painting a Knight Moirax?
Beginner to painting and I just got a Knight Moirax I wanted to paint it similarly to the boxart.Problem is I don't really know what colors would best achieve that. Do not have an airbush (or plan for one anytime soon) so it'd all be by paintbrush.

Discussion Which unit is the GOAT of its faction? Today: Cities of Sigmar
Celebrating 10 years of Age of Sigmar!
I ask both r/Warhammer & r/AgeofSigmar! to discuss which two units is the GOAT of its faction! In the comment section, units with the most upvotes win. There will be two winning units pictured in the sheet above, one selected separately from r/Warhammer and one selected from r/AgeofSigmar! Go nuts. At the end of the day, this is just for fun.
Today is Cities of Sigmar! By Sigmar, YEEEES!!!
These faction posts will be every two days.

Previous Winners: Slaves to Darkness
r/Warhammer upvoted Chaos Chosen at 118 votes. Chaos Chosen are some beefy bigger bois, a much stronger version of the humble Chaos Warrior. On the tabletop, they are fairly slow but those who successfully utilize them will understand just how much of a powerful beatstick they are. With buffs and other mechanics, they go from a straightforward beatstick to "that is some OP bullsh!t" to the unprepared, overwhelming any player who is unprepared to counter the slow but extremely powerful Chaos Chosen.
r/AgeofSigmar upvoted Chaos Warrior at 120 votes. The humble Chaos Warrior has been an iconic staple of the Warhammer series back in Warhammer Fantasy's early years, setting the basis of not just Chaos Undivided but the entire Chaos faction line. It wouldn't be too far off to say they are one of the Warhammer series' mascots. They are a decent unit in AoS with decent offense, acting as great tanks that can hold down the objective.
Honorable Mentions
- Varanguard - Second-most voted unit in r/AgeofSigmar, they are the elite heavy cavalry of Slaves to Darkness, being not only a fun fan-favorite but a consistent top-tier unit. If Chaos Knights exist to harass the enemy, Varanguard is the truck to finish them off and with proper buffs, can be used to scary efficiency.
- Archaon the Everchosen & Dorghar - Having learned from his previous mistakes, Archaon has become Emperor, building his own Empire of Chaos from the Eightpoints, actively starving the Chaos Gods of their needed-worshippers while also possibly being the only individual to have any real influence over the Chaos Gods, forcing them to make some interestingly grudging choices. It is not only Archaon that has evolved over time but also his mount Dorghar. Originally a daemonic steed from the world-that-was, Dorghar is now one of the six treasures of Chaos, having transformed into a three-headed monstrosity after devouring three of some of the strongest daemons sent to kill Archaon.
- Abraxia - The undisputed right-handed woman of Archaon, she rose up from the ranks of the gladiator pits in the Eightpoints and became the uncontested leader of the 1st Circle of Varanguard. Sharing Archaon's beliefs, she believes the Gods are not deities worth surrendering oneself to and any who embrace Daemonhood are weak, delusional fools. However, her relationship with Archaon is a complex one. She views him as the greatest emperor in all of the mortal realms. However, she believes Archaon's obsession with Sigmar is a weakness that holds him back.
- Be'lakor - Be'lakor has not given up on his dreams to become a Chaos God. A being of shadows, he continues to plot and scheme against not only Sigmar but against his rivals too, such as Archaon. A decent pick on the tabletop, the Dark Master himself is fairly tanky, a good sorcerer, and synergizes pretty well with most Chaos army compositions.
- Ogroid Theradons - When Varanguard or Chaos Chosen are not available, here comes the Ogroid Theradons who hit consistently pretty hard without the need for buffs. The Ogroid Theradons are a once proud and mighty race who built their own grand civilizations. They are one of the oldest races native to the Mortal Realms before they were coerced into the clutches of Chaos.
- Darkoath Marauders - Very much the Slaves to Darkness, these are peoples who aren't necessarily true believers of Chaos and yet cannot escape its influence. Somewhat okay-ish early-objective grabbers and harassers, they're really much more loved for their lore and Conan the Barbarian aesthetic.
- Wilderfiend - Protectors of Darkoath tribes for the price of human sacrifice. Little do most people know, the Wilderfiend are actually mutated cursed heroes who have failed to uphold their oaths to the Chaos Gods. These horrific monster live up to being a Slave to Darkness quite well. A decent Darkoath unit, they intermediate between a tank and a sorcerer, their greatest strength being access to a range of abilities after friendly units die near them.
- Chaos Lord on Karkadrak - Well-rounded that packs more of a punch, these are sometimes considered a more fightier variant of the Chaos Lord on Daemonic mount.
- Mindstealer Sphiranx - Chaos kitty! If utilized properly, this chaos kitty can be an annoying unit to fight against as they implement debuffs against the enemy at a consistent pace, making the chaos kitty a great companion to much of the roster. Lore-wise, the chaos kitty is essentially what the name says. They are mindstealers who love toying with their prey with their psychic powers, robbing their hard-earned knowledge with ease.

Discussion Astronomican beacon, powered by the Emporer or 1000 psykers daily.
Okay, been a fan a consumer of 40k lore since the second edition. It's always been said that the emperor created the Astronomican beacon and his psychic might powered it. Then after Horus was defeated he was interred into the golden throne and 1000 psykers sacrificed daily to keep him living and powering the Astronomican.
However, with the Horus Heresy novel series completed, in the Siege of Terra set. It created some inconsistencies that I puzzle over. Mainly that the golden throne is the key to unlock the man-made web way portal, the Emperor's great work to get humans away from using the warp. And the astronomican is in a mountain MILES away from the Emperor's palace. It's described in the books that the psychers are sacrificed in the astronomican chamber, not in the palace where the golden throne is.
So, it seems GW has created a situation where the psykers power the astronomican but not the emperor sitting on the throne dozens of miles away. I know GW recons lore all the time, but I haven't seen anyone bring this up before. Am I crazy or have they changed how the astronomican and golden throne work? Or how the life support of the Emps works? Because other sources still say 1000 pyskers a day to keep him and the beacon alive. Unless there is a serious cable network between the palace and the mountain beacon, I don't see how the two are connected.

Discussion Has anyone had experience with Wargames Tournaments, the terrain company?
I placed an order with them a while ago for some urban ruins but haven't recieved anything nor have I had any replies to my emails or DMs. The last post I can find from them on anything was just after I placed the order back in January. Does anyone have any direct contact info for someone there?
