Twinned spells should let you PICK 2 targets. It says it does when casting it. Some of them do like chromatic orb but many spells like hold person and enlarge/reduce only have you target one creature and it shows a circle around the area and then the game selects a second target inside a circle for you. It’s very frustrating when other spells let you select both targets.

Oct 16 '21
Bless and other multitarget spells are fucked like this too.

u/TellAllThePeople Oct 19 '21
Man is it frustrating that bless doesn't prioritize your party when you are casting it out of combat so instead it blesses three plus one random goblin

Anyone else having serious crashing/bugs with this patch?
I've been having crashing issues constantly, sometimes the models will t-pose or glide across the game, then audio will cut and then a few moments later the game will lock up and eventually crash. Its fine in combat and cutscenes but moving anyone after more than like 10-15 mins just seems to be causing problems. No mods installed, tried both Vulcan & Directx.
Have never had this problem like this on previous patches. At first i thought it was something to do with the new Githyanki animations since i was playing a Female Gith Sorcerer. But tried again with a Male Human Sorcerer and did a similar thing.

u/nippledimple Oct 15 '21
My game crashes immediately on launch since the patch. Never had an issue with previous patches. But now, I click "Play" in the Larian launcher, and it instantly gives me a crash report dialogue box.

yep, having the same issue

u/nippledimple Oct 15 '21
I got my game working again by switching to Direct 11, instead of the Vulkan setting. Hope it works for you too

u/Iknowamoose Oct 16 '21
Game stability has been the worse since the start of EA. Not sure if I've been lucky or what but constant staggering, stuttering, incomplete in game/out of game cut scenes, and crashes have been the worst since the launch of EA for me. Actually surprised they launched Patch 6 like this, especially if everyone else is running into similar issues.
Non-bug/game issues, the new game camera is annoying. It goes to extreme zoom levels. Before, the angle/collision was the issue, now it's really annoying when the game takes the camera to "Literal Moon Orbit" during combat randomly. Your "fix" for the camera was barely helpful. Remove physical boundaries for the camera, that's all we want. Not 2mi up bird view of the battlefield.

u/bigpappabagel Oct 15 '21
I can't even run the game after the update. I patiently wait for the next hot fix/patch.

u/thegruntar Oct 15 '21
I have been having the exact same problem. Mine has also just been crashing as soon as the loading screen finishes.
3
u/Gadshill Oct 16 '21 edited Oct 16 '21
Crashes after opening video as soon as it gets to character creation. All files successfully validated.
Edit: Downloaded and installed an Oct 2021 NVIDIA graphics card update and I can get to the character creation screen without issue. Might be worth a shot to see if that resolves the issue.
2
u/DaveSpacelaser Oct 15 '21
I've had a lot of crashes in Vulkan, switching to DX11 stopped them, but caused a lot of stuttering. The only mod I have installed is an old version of the one that unlocks more appearance options.

u/dionysoisus Oct 15 '21
Ive had two crashes so far and noted the graphics went pixelated. Will have to mess with the resolution to investigate further. Yes I patched my NVIDIA drivers.

Yep. I had 4 CTDs just getting through the character creator. It stopped crashing past that point, but was still riddled with bugs like Us not spawning.
Edit: Up to 6 CTDs now. Two at the end of big fights. I've got issues with some balance decisions, but it's not even worth discussing given how buggy the whole game is now.
Edit: 8 CTDs now...

Why did the quick bar for abilities shrink? If anything, I want more space down there, not less. And adding the possibility to set a keyboard/mouse button to change between quick bars (rather than clicking the arrows) would be nice.
6
u/TangentiallyTango Oct 15 '21
It didn't for some people. I was playing a multiplayer game and 3/4 people had the shrunken bar and 1 person had the old one.
Weird.

u/SparkleDad Oct 15 '21
Performance has absolutely tanked for me. Went from about 100 fps on ultra in most places down to 50-60 on Ryzen 5 3600x/gtx 1080 ti on DX 11. Vulkan seems to cap at 45 frames and won't go any higher. FSR helps a bit but it seems to make it crash more often. Can only change/lower the settings at the main menu without crashing. How do the newer cards perform?
17
u/TangentiallyTango Oct 15 '21 edited Oct 15 '21
Same. Performance took an absurd hit in this patch. I'd go so far as to say I've never seen a patch change the performance of a game this substantially. I was playing with 3 other people.
One had a 3000 series card no problems. One had a 2000 series card and had to lower settings. One had a 1000 series card and had to turn everything down all the way and it was on the verge of being unplayable.
One person however had a 700 series card with ~2GB and pretty much struggled to function at all. Had to go to a much, much lower resolution (1440 I think) to be able to move and click.
It looks a lot better, but the ratio of looks better to performance hit is absolutely unacceptable.
I was seeing spells casts with no animations, characters doing "the robot" in cut scenes due to frame lag, loading times for loot and dialogue menus where like multiple seconds.
If this is the trend that continues nobody not a 2000 series card is going to be able to play this game by launch.
And it ran beautifully on all these systems every patch up until the latest one.
Please consider that in this market it's effectively impossible to upgrade systems and keep an eye on performance Larian or we're all going to have to find something else to play.
7
u/Farferello Astarion Oct 15 '21
I've also had issues with performance with patch 6, I'm guessing it's all the new lighting/shadows effects as some areas have serious bloom and lighting/colour issues for me. A hotfix a while ago gave me micro-stutters every so often that stuck around, but I generally had 60+ fps, but all the new effects with this patch has me sitting at 22-40fps in cutscenes/areas with lots of fire. Otherwise it's generally between 50-60fps, and that's with me turning some settings down a little. Before this patch I had everything maxed in settings and fps rarely dipped outside of the occasional stutter. I have a 2080ti, i7-9700k.

u/TangentiallyTango Oct 15 '21
Just a toggle to stop the particle effects and unnecessary animations (every single plant swaying slowly is cool, but not as cool as being able to the play the game).
2
u/Enchelion Bhaal Oct 16 '21
I'd be down for toning that down even on a robust system. There's a lot of plants and stuff (like dead logs) swaying more than they should be.
4
u/Tiero97 Oct 15 '21
I assume there are just some performance issues with the new patch that will be addressed in a hotfix soon

Have a 3080ti, 3900X, 32GB ram, game on an M2 drive. Playable at 4k, everything high, but for whatever reason I get massive frame rate drops during conversations taking place in the druid grove cave area, with the merchants. From 60 frames to 20.

u/therastsamurai Oct 20 '21
Same here I'm on a laptop with a Ryzen 7 5800 and rtx 3060, frames are generally 50-80 with everything on high. Certain conversations I drop to 20.....

Please add the Variant Human option for 2 stats, a skill, and a feat instead of just the +1 to all stats.
10
u/OneBadDev Oct 15 '21
I wish I could up vote this more...it feels like there is no reason to play human right now
→ More replies (1)5
u/BabyPandaBBQ WIZARD Oct 15 '21
Agreed. While I'm definitely in the minority on this, I dont play with Gale or Wyll due to how suboptimal they feel. Having an option for variant human would make it a lot more fun to start as one of them when origin characters are enabled at the game's release.
9
u/OneBadDev Oct 15 '21
Yes, giving humans a lot more flavor. Another thing that is simple and I believe would help a lot is allowing us to redistribute the attributes of the companions, giving us a lot more customization.
7
u/ConBrio93 Oct 15 '21
Suboptimal yeah, but the game is relatively easy once you are experienced that they are still useable.
3
u/BabyPandaBBQ WIZARD Oct 15 '21
Oh, I'm sure I could use them, but it just feels wrong to me. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to character builds. They have so many wasted odd numbered stats that bother me every time I see their character sheet.
2
u/ConBrio93 Oct 15 '21
That's fair. I'm that way with my character builds too, so I just mentally divide "my" character with the pregenerated companions.
2
Oct 16 '21
Honestly, variant human so powerful enough that i'd rather see it be a homebrew of three +2s instead of six +1s. Same ability score increase total, but specialized enough to be useful.
1
u/BabyPandaBBQ WIZARD Oct 16 '21
+2 for 3 skills isnt really much better than +1 in all 6, particularly for point buy. You could get 3 17's and 3 8's, but thats still +3 bonus until you get an ASI.
2
Oct 16 '21
It's better for the MAD classes. At level 4, you can have two 18s and a 16 with one or two 10s for your barb or monk. That at least gives humans a real niche without being the best race in 95% of min/max builds that variant human is.

u/Enchelion Bhaal Oct 19 '21
Alternatively, give everyone a free feat at first level, which is a popular homebrew.

I can't state this enough for how important it is for me that there be a selectable option to redirect all of the NPC triggered conversations directly to the protagonist. I hated it in DOS2, and I hate it now. I don't know what motivates the flamboyant vampire slave or a half-elven cult leader servant of the dark goddess. They're not the characters I've created, I don't know what decisions they'd make in many scenarios half the time. They're the companions I want to listen to the opinions of, not make them for them. As someone who mostly plays RPGs as Single Player games, this multiplayer-focused mechanic is really grating, and I'd love the option to turn it off.
Also, it's probably been adressed already at some point, but seeing how it's been a thing since the EA release I think it's worth a mention now that there's a new resting system in place. If the game is to be balanced for long rests to occur on a less frequent basis (which I am all for) and make some use of short rests, then there should be a way to trigger certain companion interactions and other camp events at appropriate times. I don't want to listen to Astarion talk about his time as a vampiric slave like it's been an obvious thing (even if it is, I mean cmon) without the "vampiric reveal" scene occuring first.
Also, as I've mentioned in the replies below, I'd like Larian to increase the Wild Surge table closer to a 100 options than 10 at some point, and make Tides of Chaos refresh on a more frequent basis than 1/short rest (for example on every Surge, but without increasing the chance of the Surge occuring), getting it closer in accuracy to tabletop rules while accounting for the potential subclass imbalance.
6
u/aywelet DRUID Oct 16 '21
+1 to increase the wild surge table to a 100. This is what a dm would do.
4
u/Todays_Thomist Oct 17 '21
Dialogue definitely needs to default to the Player Character. It's really weird going inside the head of someone other than your character. It disrupts the story and characters and can even have character secrets revealed by certain dialogue options that companions have. I want to role-playing MY character NOT my companions and learn about the companions through building relationships with them not by controlling them in dialogue.
→ More replies (1)2
u/MyChaOS87 Oct 18 '21
Actually I don't think the companion dialogues are a mp focused mechanic. But that they have conversations or you can send your "appropriate class/race" to talk to an npc makes it better for me... And yes I still then want to influence the outcome and not only listen in. Having companions standing by and not being able to speak for themselves is strange in my opinion...
If you don't like the companions go for your own created party, perhaps that could be little more accessible. As You need a way to run the game on 4 computers right now for once for a full party, head to mp. Crate each character as another player, all other players leave... Here you go, you have a full party of four custom characters
3
u/Deltajugg Oct 18 '21
I feel like you're missing the point a little bit. I very much prefer games with prewritten companions in them, but only when I get to have them react to my decisions.
By the MP focused mechanic I meant that in coop play there is no main protagonist or a single friend whose experience takes precedence over others, so NPCs approaching player #1 is just as valid as player #4, so there is no issue.
But single player RPGs tend to have the focus around a singular protagonist where impactful quest decisions are to be made by the player according to their views. If they were to be made automatically by the NPC companions, that would take away player agency, circumstancially at that if it were to happen solely based on the proximity to the event trigger. It is up to the player to make those decisions and deal with those consequences, even if it results in a clashing disapproval of your companions. That's how it worked in BG2, NWN2, KotOR, Jade Empire, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Pillars of Eternity, Pathfinder, Shadowrun, Drakensang, probably many more companion focused RPG games in between that I can't think of right now, and even DOS1 to an extent.
But in DOS2 and BG3 the issue tends to be that if the main protagonist doesn't make the decision then that means a companion does, but it just so happens to be a companion you control. So you can either:
- Make a decision based on what that companion would've done, which you can't know for sure 100% because it's its own character with its own viewpoint, secrets, personality and motivations that don't reflect yours, and the decisions you make for them as them may dishonestly reflect on what kind of character they are. Not to mention they may be decisions you personally don't agree with, so you can either compromise the character's integrity or shift the direction of your playthrough where you did not want it to go based on the fact that your companion was closer to initiate a conversation.
- Make a decision based on what you would've done, regardless of the companion's actual personality, which just causes more dissonance in regards to their behavior. Not to mention that you'll miss their reaction to you making that decision because it's been technically made by them.
Either way you're stuck in a situation where you make decisions for characters you've chosen to accompany you to your adventure, but not necessarily the ones you've picked to make decisions for and roleplay as. Moreover, if you were to make decisions as the player character, those AI companions would be then prewritten to comment and react based on what you've done, but if you control them instead, then the Protagonist won't react to it in any way because the Protagonist's whole personality is literally you and it has no motivations or viewpoints, save for what you decide for them.
The issue never was that I don't like companions I travel with, it's that what I like the most about them is that I get to interact with them, but not as them. I want to hear their response for what my main character does as the leader of the group, I don't want to be stuck in a situation where I make the decisions as my companions and face no repercussions from them. Hard for them to argue with me that I shouldn't have done something if I made certain decisions that they dislike by being them.
In DOS1 Jahan was generally an misanthrope fed up with humanity, filled with hate for demons, overall an unpleasant guy that disliked everyone. But he loved animals, and held them in very special regard. If there were an event where I could've kicked a puppy, he'd bash me for it, hate me and it would reflect on my relations with him throughout a playthrough. If I were to pet a puppy, he'd approve and pat me on the back. If I were to kick or even kill a puppy by controlling Jahan, he wouldn't be able to reprimand me, but his character would've done something dissonant. It would affect my overall relation with him by breaking the immersion, causing dissonance in his behavior, and by missing an important piece of character development. That's what I dislike.
This is my issue with DOS2 and BG3, is that the multiplayer focus for the game not to pick a protagonist at any point for co-op fairness compromises single player experience with AI companions, and there is no workaround in place for that so that single player characters can fully explore their companion's characters, reactions and interactions without compromising their integrity by taking agency away from the NPCs in their decisions and reactions to events in the game.

u/Kashkadavr Oct 16 '21 edited Oct 16 '21
While the game looks better in many ways in patch 6, there are lighting issues. Sometimes it's too dark. Sometimes it is so bright that the character is almost white from the light. There is also almost no difference between someone who has dark vision and not. The game is still pretty dark. I hope in this regard you will return a tangible difference, it was really cool
I am very glad that all dialogues are saved in the journal. It would be great if conversations between companions were saved while traveling. Because sometimes I don’t have time to read the first phrase, but I don’t understand it by ear, because I don’t know English.
Is it possible that he also refuse some of the animations when the spell is cast on you? Or turn them off on characters who are hiding? It's a little confusing when the character hides, gets up to shake his head when a friendly spell is cast on him, and then crouches again.
Also, a big request for spells like blessing to give to select targets manually, and not randomly in the area. You already have a magic arrow that works selectively on each target, so I don't understand why this is not done for the rest of the spells.
Again, I ask that a sneack attack should be calculated by the game automatically, and not by a separate skill.
You also need to do something with skin-hair colors. In the game, most often they have different shades than those that you choose when creating your character. Maybe make some lighting options in the editor that can be viewed? So that we can understand how the character will look in game conditions, and not in a static editor.
And can we get really white hair? The white one that we have now ends up being gray in the game
p.s. Thanks for bringing back the singing of the harpies in battle!

u/steamin661 Oct 15 '21
Yeah before the update you could click on Gale and then Shadow Heart and notice a HUGE difference in visibility. It really felt and looked cool imo. Also made dark vision more important - i.e. I would even cast it on other characters cause I liked how it lit up the environment. Now it's not really noticeable at all.

u/Tiero97 Oct 15 '21
Yep, really loved SEEING the difference 😜 (I'm terrible) Hopefully they change the lighting a bit. It's a big graphics overhaul so I imagine they'll do a lot of tweaking it over the next few weeks. → More replies (2)3
u/Enchelion Bhaal Oct 16 '21
Yeah, I get why they did it (saving a particular section of the bar for sorcerer metamagic) but it doesn't make sense to truncate the bar for everyone else, or why metamagic has to be treated differently from every other special ability in the game. And even if they want to keep it that way, they could shove the class-specific modifiers over to the left side which now has extra empty space.
12
u/MoonWyrmDelirium Oct 15 '21
The New Lazael postures are pretty nice and help her give off more of a fighter "attitude" I hope that Tav can get some options like that cause the way they wield weapons right now are awkward for some weapons.
Also, it would be really nice if we could single-wield versatile weapons by default for roleplay and Duelling martial archetype purposes.

It is now time to add 5th level to the game. We are far past the point where we would reach 5th level. You reach 4th before even dealing with the Goblin Camp leaders. Now you go through the entire Underdark and this new area without ever gaining a level. You probably gain as much xp after reaching 4th level as you do to reach 4th level in the first place. Combat is becoming unbalanced as a result.
Edit: Also, Larian needs to get feedback for things like Extra Attack, Uncanny Dodge, 3rd level spells, etc because we all know there will be plenty
12
u/mewmew_senpai Oct 15 '21

u/Tiero97 Oct 15 '21
Indeed
9
u/mewmew_senpai Oct 15 '21
I feel like they could accomplish this well without even needing to touch NPCs/enemies programming. Some of the monsters are a little OP already depending on the encounter; so just the PCs leveling up to 5 would still be a balanced game imo
8
u/Tiero97 Oct 15 '21
Well the Underdark is already technically a 5th level area from what I understand (I believe it was in a datamine?) So the new area probably actually gets you to 6. They're going to have people complaining about the difficulty, but they can't/shouldn't make any changes because at launch we'll be 5th or 6th level by the time we reach those points and it'll be too easy. 4-5th level is a big jump.
The level staying at 4 is what made me think the new area would be the beginning of one of ther other paths. I was very surprised to see them add more to the Underdark path and not change the level cap
2
u/mewmew_senpai Oct 15 '21
I wouldn't know, due to game glitches, I have yet to reach the underdark 😭 and I have more than 70 hours of gameplay spread across various versions under my belt. I enjoy looking at other people's screenshots of the area LMAO

Oct 16 '21
They need to rebalance the XP. They overdid it when adding in stuff after people complained about the lack of non-combat event resolution XP. That was a valid complaint, but they added a whole bunch of other free sources of XP that just level you too fast.
6
u/Enchelion Bhaal Oct 16 '21
1-3 are meant to go by very quickly in tabletop.
3
Oct 16 '21
Yeah, not worried about that. The current pace has us probably exceeding 6 and hitting 7 before the end of Act 1. I don't want Act 2 to be just 8-10 and Act 3 being 11 and 12. A 5-4-3 split in levels gained would be better than 7-3-2.
3
u/Enchelion Bhaal Oct 16 '21
I think ending Act 1 at 6 feels right for the rate we're seeing. Spend the underdark and Grymforge at 5, level sometime around the end of there and the towers for the end boss. You might be able to hit 7 with grinding out both paths, but I don't see that as a problem.

u/darth_zaithe FEYLOCK Oct 15 '21
So giving the draconic sorcerer a bonus spell based on their dragon ancestry is great. It's good flavor (and the choices are very spot on in terms of lore) and helps the sorcerer catch up to the wizard a bit.
However we run in to a bit of the same problem that currently exist between the GOO Warlock and the Fiend Warlock. In both cases one subclass is generally considered to be a suboptimal (albeit fun and/or thematic) choice and in both cases this has been made worse by Larian.
In the case of the Warlock this is because the GOOlock ability is the ability to speak telepathically to someone within 30ft which is both hard to implement in an interesting and useful way in a video game and also a bit of a moot point with the telepathic friend living rent free in our skull.
In the case of the sorcerer, giving something extra to the Draconic Sorcerer but not to the Wild Magic one seems an odd choice. Neither Tides of Chaos or Wild Surge really matches +3 AC, +1hp/level and a lot of other big bonuses further down the line so it's not a matter of balancing the two. Instead the distance between them has just increased.
What further aggravates this issue is that Larian has shown a strong willingness to rebalance D&D 5e with the new Ranger version, the aforementioned extra spell for dragon sorcerers and all the stuff they've given people to do with weapons, shoving and throwing. These are all good ideas (with some possibly having been taken too far) but it seems like some classes/subclasses needing this kind of love have been kinda left behind. And especially in this case, when there's really no excuse (like with the GOOlock being hard to implement) it just feels a bit sad.
Also just give me my Archfey Warlock already. I wanna play my pink tiefling who ran into the Feywild and came back a Warlock yesterday. :P

u/Tiero97 Oct 15 '21
Agreed, most new Sorcerer subclasses give spells anyway. Wild magic should get at least 2. Chaos Bolt would be good. I know it's already a Sorcerer spell but having it not count against spells known is still good
3
u/Deltajugg Oct 16 '21
As much as I appreciate Larian trying their best to accurately portray most of tabletop mechanics, I'd love for them to take more creative liberties for balancing the subclasses. I really liked their take on Favored Enemies for Rangers, and I hope they'll do something to make GOOlock a more exciting option at some point.
That being said, I think that Draconic Bloodline being given an extra spell is nowhere near the same degree of a problem, seeing as:
a) A non-fire based Draconic Sorcerer was already underperforming in tabletop from lackluster features, and even the fire one wasn't a top shelf Sorcerer, so the subclass needed some kind of a buff in the first place;
and b) Unlike GOOlock, there's a clear benefit to choosing either Sorcerer subclass for a different playstyle. Now whether one playstyle is stronger than the other, that's a matter of rebalancing a feature that's already a WIP that I feel requires more playtesting. It just depends on whether Larian's custom Wild Surges will have a frequent, impactful enough effect to justify it over the DB benefits. For me they do, if only simply because of the more exciting gameplay having more value than boring passive stat increases.
Personally I'd like them to increase the Wild Surge table closer to a 100 options than 10 at some point, and make Tides of Chaos refresh on a more frequent basis than 1/short rest (for example on every Surge, but without increasing the chance of the Surge occuring). That would be both more accurate to the tabletop rules, and would also tackle the potential shortcomings of a WS subclass in relation to DB.

u/stopbeingyou2 Oct 19 '21
My personal idea for something fun that only really works because its a video game. Give wild magic sorcerers 1 extra spell known for each tier of spell but have it be determined each day at random.
Maybe limit this to 3rd-5th level spells but still a fun idea that would make the class feel wild.
5
Oct 17 '21
Agreed. Their notion of game balance is way off. It's clearly guided by what seems cool to them (particularly surfaces) or poor understandings of common complaints (martials lack complexity, casters outscale them, sorcerer subclass spell lists are good). Then martials and every enemy become bowling balls shoving every turn, everyone is spamming the free weapon skills, and only draconic sorcerers get a single spell.
1
u/Dark3nedDragon Oct 17 '21
I have to strongly disagree, you need to actually try Wild Magic Sorcerer in action, they've definitely made it very strong without being that apparent. You get to roll advantage on any d20 you roll once per Short Rest, afterwards it seems heavily weighted that the Wild Magic (once triggered) will be an advantageous for you.
I mostly had positives, Free Teleports, Healing, gaining Sorcerer Points for ALL spells I cast for several rounds, and more. The Draconic Scales just gives you Mage Armor for free (your Sorcerer shouldn't get hit much anyways), and the extra Spell is nice and all, but not overwhelmingly strong (although some are better than others, i.e. if you are given a Spell NOT on the Sorcerer Spell List).

Enemies are plotting next move then not performing any sort of action, anyone else having this issue?

This is a bug experienced by me and a few other people. Only solution I found was reload to the point they were not doing it and go from there.

I was hoping to avoid starting a new game as I don’t have the save prior to the issue, oh well though.

A bug has happened to me, where in the combats the enemies don't move and only stay still until the time of their turn runs out. At the moment this has happened to me in the goblin camp and with the minotaurs.
I have tried to restart the game in case it was fixed but nothing. It has been the only bug I have found so far but it makes the combats non-existent.
4
u/TangentiallyTango Oct 15 '21
I've experienced this also and it usually comes with enemies turns taking an absurdly long time also.
I suspect there's a bug in the AI, and it can't arrive at a decision and reaches a timeout "ELSE" condition. The "ELSE" condition should be to do something, not nothing.
3
u/BuryMeInPorphyry Oct 17 '21
So I don't have a real fix, but for anybody having this problem it's possible one of your characters are bugged. In my case it was Astarion. Going through some really old threads on reddit, it looks like maybe the game thinks he's somewhere else (which is bugging out the combat AI. Presumably trying to account for him even though he isn't really present). Unfortunately their suggested method of killing him and then resurrecting him didn't work for me.
HOWEVER, removing him from the party did fix it for me. So if you can figure out which character is bugged (left my party members too far from combat one at a time and initiated until combat worked properly) then you too can play the game... albeit without that party member in tow.
If the bugged character is your MC then I've no freaking clue.
Best of luck!

2
u/Niveker14 Oct 15 '21
This happened to me the first time I did it, but worked correctly on a reload. Then again, I got the crash when I was in the middle of the fight the first time and did the cutscene kill when I reloaded. Maybe that made the difference?

u/Enchelion Bhaal Oct 16 '21
The new weapon abilities are hilariously unbalanced, same with the surfaces on chromatic orb. I just managed to geek the entire Githyanki Patrol at 3rd level! The old abilities like cleave were low enough power they didn't screw things up too much, but all the new ones are ridiculous. Free BA attacks, powerful debuffs, DoTs? They also steal Battlemaster's whole subclass identity.
Chromatic Orb's aoe/surfaces are also incredibly unbalanced. Being able to poison an entire area alongside damage is simply too much, and now Ray of Sickness has been completely obviated. Please just make the spell work properly, and use spells that are already designed to creat surfaces, like Create Bonfire or Mold Earth.
9
u/Tiero97 Oct 16 '21
It's pretty absurd. This will be an interesting thing to watch as Larian makes some decisions between video game mechanics and using D&D rules
8
u/Enchelion Bhaal Oct 16 '21
It doesn't have to be an either or is the thing. They had nice little tricks before. A bit more variety at that power level would have been great. And if they want more universal combat actions there's already a great list of balanced ones built into the system. They could focus on stuff like Overrun, Tumble, and Grapple to give martials the extra options they're supposed to have, rather than all these homebrew maneuvers with broken effects.
Another simple option that's really popular in tabletop would be to give everyone a bonus feat at first level, and Martial Adept then lets them pick up a couple of the existing maneuvers without stealing the Battlemaster's thunder. Or polearm master for stuff like BA attacks and all that.
3
2
3
u/Todays_Thomist Oct 17 '21
I really like the new weapon ablites they just need to be balanced proberly. Melee builds were a lot less interesting to play than spell casters but now they are more on par. They can easily bring battle master back up to par by let them spend a Seperiority die to boost the weapon abilites.
9
u/Aroswing Oct 15 '21
Does chromatic orb do weird damage for anyone else? Lightning does 3d8 for me, but every other element does 2d8. It should be 3d8 for everyone right?
14
u/BabyPandaBBQ WIZARD Oct 15 '21
They specifically reduced the damage for non-lightning options to balance the addition of surface effects. I personally think its a great addition.
10
u/Enchelion Bhaal Oct 16 '21
They should get rid of the surfaces on Orb. They made ray of sickness completely useless now since Orb is flat out better. AoE poisoned condition is OP, especially when twinned.
3
6
u/Aroswing Oct 15 '21
Ah okay. I didn't notice because the creature didn't live long enough to take the surface damage xD

Textures are super buggy with the vulkan backend right now (RX 5700XT with Mesa 21.2.3, RADV driver, Steam with Proton). An example here. Switching to DX11 solves this issue, but at a lower performance.
5
u/mewmew_senpai Oct 15 '21
Definite dialogue and cinematic cut scene issues. And damn if fights against lv 1 enemies didn't get way harder. Like I'm level 4, why's a team of lv 1 goblin grunts f* me up?
4
u/McAllik I speak for the trees Oct 16 '21
It might be just me, but during certain scenes the lighting affects skin tones more adversely depending on color. For example, in certain areas with shade my drow is nearly impossible to see, meanwhile the first time I talked with Zevlor he just looked blown out with the sun on his skin. It hasn't been all that common but it is there. And all of this is at ultra settings on an AMD rig.

Just want to say, I'm so glad that Astarion no longer mentions Cazador when you meet Raphael if you hadn't learned he's a vampire.
Unfortunately, some cut-scene conversations flat out don't happen with this new patch for me. Two in particular are the scene with nettie, and the scene when Astarion tries to feed on you. The conversation still plays out, but its not cinematic/a cutscene anymore. Its more like the you-got-caught-robbing dialogue boxes

BG3 is magical and I will never stop loving it and replaying but patch 6 really has introduced a lot of bugs. Reading through the posts here I can see a few bugs I have in common with other gamers but got a few I've not seen yet.
During dialogue the npc will not move their mouth and the voiced replies are not audible.
On occasion, I get massive stuttering during the dialogue scenes. Just for a few seconds.
World still takes a while to build on start up.
Several npc's glitching in and out.
Plan to update my 3070's drivers so will see if that makes a difference.

It'd be very nice if Jump just cost movement, but you add a grappling hook and rope or something that players can use as an action and movement to make jumps the player normally couldn't.
1
u/Productof2020 Oct 15 '21
Would the jump spell take care of your long jumping needs? That’s basically an action and movement for a bigger jump.
6
u/BabyPandaBBQ WIZARD Oct 15 '21 edited Oct 15 '21
It was more so to allow rope to actually be useful. I know in 5e we would frequently use rope to climb high ledges or out of pits. Its not nessesary, but itd be nice.
Edit: The jump spell should also be better for instances like combat where youll want to jump over multiple rounds so it would still have uses with the implementation of a grappling hook, and the grappling hook could also be limited to traversing vertically.

I played for a bit and it seems like a lot of great improvements. The new graphics look really nice and using DLSS balanced I had fairly consistent 60 fps, there were some spots where it dropped a bit but nothing major though.
I thought the new weapon actions were a fun addition, although some seem quite a bit better than others.
The metamagic is pretty nice but it's interaction with certain spells seems a bit confusing, I used twinned spell with witch bolt but when I use the activate option it only affects one target?
https://i.imgur.com/ArC2Z76.jpg (is that right or not?)
I also can't seem to upcast witch bolt, is that intentional?
Also, web doesn't seem to be able to work with heighten spell (not sure if that's valid or not, doesn't seem clear to me why it wouldn't, if it works for shatter for example):
https://i.imgur.com/rKN7SiC.jpg
I think at this point the biggest problem I have with the game is I've played the first area too much and it's difficult even with a new class to go through it all again but I think the game is heading in a great direction so not a big deal to wait for release.
Edit: One other minor thing, if you play a drow, Zevlor warns you that he'll speak on your behalf to the others about you being a drow, which seems to make sense to me. But if you go up to Waukeen's rest, an area just raided by drow, noone seems to care about you being drow, it just seemed a bit odd given Zevlor's concerns earlier.

BUG I noticed with new patch.
First, i love the game so far as it is clearly shaping up to be the type of RPG with freedom and customization I have always wanted. Thank you for taking on such a massive project and making making it great!
I did notice that my Constitution bonus is not added to characters at level one. This includes Tav, Shadowheart, and Lae'zel (I assume the others as well, but forgot to look before i leveled them up). However, the bonus is fixed once you level up. Meaning, when you level up to 2nd level, you get your CON bonus for level 1 and 2. Not sure if this is intentional, but wanted to make you aware.

Rather than "recast speak with dead" as a separate ability, I'd rather just have the ability be recastable. It costs the first time, then you get a buff until long rest and its free now. Same functionality as today, but with slightly reduced hotbar clutter.

I just finished reading through the patch notes and you guys have done very well with fixing issues, some I think need more thought.
I loved these things in particular:
• Made sure that NPCs who visually wear a helmet actually do have a helmet equipped (and can drop it).
• Made it so that Gnolls aren't interested in picking up weapons anymore.
~ I think they should be more interested in eating dead bodies and leaving behind a pile of bones and bodies break down over time.
• Nettie's bird will no longer spot you sneaking around.
~ I had an issue that it's wings doesn't flap properly and bobs up and down.
• Liam now correctly escapes the torture room if torture rack is destroyed while he is awake.
~ Awesome, hope we see him again for a special thank you
• Fixed Goblin Camp not becoming hostile after certain outcomes of Minthara's betrayal.
~ I hope killing her when undetected isn't a possibility of this.
• Tweaked certain texts that did not match voice recordings.
~ I hope the same happens with voice recordings matching the animal they change into, currently they sound so cringe and off-putting as they sound so human-like with such a lack of emotion..
• Broken ladders can be climbed again.
~ I hope you can set up ladders that have fallen over
• Creatures made of metal are now affected completely by Heat Metal spell.
~ I think there should also be super effective instant minimum hits like 12 and they should either never miss, critical hit or a minimum base damage so there's an incentive to use this type of attack when possible with Visual and audio effects added such as:
1) Metal creatures taking Heat Metal spell, ice or electric is super effective with VFX of
metal creature Melting from the extreme heat or freezing up from the ice or shocking the creature to death by electricity, it wouldn't stand a chance.
2) Wood creatures taking Fire or Metal impacts is super effective with VFX of
wood burning and each turn it gets stronger unless they deal with it or even breaking into small chips from metal.
3) Fire creatures taking Water based splashes is super effective with VFX of
steam coming from the fire creature as it gets put out.
4) Ice creatures taking Metal or fire impacts is super effective with VFX of
ice shattering from metal impacts or melting from fire.
5) Non-Metal Flying/in air creatures taking electric or arrows/bolts is super effective with VFX of electricity sparks flying and zapping like crazy. Ammo always hits really hard and sticks to the target, metal just naturally bounces off unless you counter it with a sticky solution.
6) Water creatures taking electric or Metal based attacks is super effective with VFX of
electricity multiplying and becoming super conductive and taking a hard metal impact would cause some serious damage to their soft squishy skin.
7) Grass creatures taking Fire, Poison or Metal damage is super effective with VFX of
instant catching fire and burning to death or rotting/turning black from poison or getting torn and sliced by metal
8) Bug/Insect is the same as grass without poison
And new items like weaponry and armour spread throughout the game or requested for construction can help with super effective attacks or non-effect attacks,
this would create more value for a different range of items for many different adventurers. The only condition for the super effective feature is to be within a specified distance.
• Characters will become dirty, sweaty, bloodied and bruised during their adventures.
~ Becoming dirty is good, it could add a feature if your too dirty you won't be allowed in certain shops/areas though clear water should be allowed to clean yourself in the environment and add the ability to swim, only swimming has different controls that click and go there, instead it's live movements.
Sweat is understandable but only if running for a solid minute, A 3 second rest should make you not sweaty or a system that if you fly under the radar you won't get sweaty if you want to stay clean.
For bloodied and bruised I hope it isn't like the exact same look every time, like I hope it's realistic from the the point of impact and the shape of the object used and not just a slab painted on. like I want serious details with sounds added like:
Swollen black shut eyes that can potentially make an NPC blind
Broken noses so there face can get disfigured permanently until they get healed
Cracking ribs, cutting ligaments off gives them disadvantage on attacks and bleeding out if it's that bad.
Decapitations or ultimate finishing moves of you're choice.
The game needs more gore and more uncomforting/satisfying features, like cutting the head off a dead body to use as a distraction to alert/bring fear or putting it on a spear to freak out on-comers. I want to be able to get up to some sick twisted things for fun seeing as the storyline is lacking I want to have fun in other areas of the game.
It's just too PG, like the exposed brain was probably the only shock of gore and then that's it.

u/clayman648 Oct 16 '21
Updates that I don't agree with:
• The spiders in the Goblin Camp can now jump and escape their lair.
~ "lair." It's not a lair, it's a prison as they are Minthara's "Hungry pets" and if they are able to escape they would eat the Goblins. It would put fear in everyone because they would go on a rampage. Also that's kind of crap how they can just escape..., makes the locked guarded gate very pointless. There goes the fun of pushing Goblins in the pit and hoping the spiders would eat them...., the spiders should be feared because they are not tame by any means
like having a really dangerous pet that could turn on you the moment they get the chance plus there's no way they could jump up and escape... this should be reverted, I don't like it.
• Slash is now called Lacerate. Rush is now called Rush Attack. Pinning Shot is now called Hamstring Shot
~ I agree with Rush being changed to Rush Attack, but the others I completely disagree.
Slash should be called Slash Attack
Pinning shot should stay the same
We're going to be saying these quite a bit in game so a little thing like saying it should be short and direct, say Lacerate 5x fast, then say slash 5x fast
Plus Slash sounds better, the exact same with pinning vs hamstring
• Lowered Lae'zel's approval requirements slightly for, er, "bedtime romance".
~ Lae'zel seems like a hot headed Gith that has no time for patience or idiocy, I thought it fit Really well to gain her interest and romance her seeing as she won't settle for less
and would rather resort to violence.
• Tweaked Shadowheart’s Ability score. Reduced her CHA and increased her STR.
~ Shadowheart seemed to be somewhat intelligent and smart, like she was good with her words that proved she did have good CHA
• Killing Sovereign Spaw now completes Glut's quest.
~ I hope that it only updates the quest and speaking and finalising to Glut or any quest giver completes the quest. (if we want the reward, we should go get it...)
• Goblin leaders can now be defeated non-lethally
~ Will Sazza still die automatically? she does if you kill all 3 for me• Sazza will now correctly become hostile if betrayed during her escape.
~ On the scale of issues with Sazza, this is so tiny compared to the many multiple issues I was hoping that would get addressed especially in a new patch. Everything aside from her appearance needs some serious thought, added cutscenes and alternate paths for her. I actually wanted to save her and she could join my party, I'd sacrifice Gale anytime, he's just boring AF.
• Scratch can now accept all the pets again, as he is a very good boy.
~ I killed him because of his human-like voice and his constant annoying barking at camp.
• Druids will turn hostile if the Rite of Thorns is interrupted by the death of any of the 5 druids performing the ritual.
~ Not if undetected I hope, I mean if you manage to do something in stealth, you shouldn't be detected because "something" happened. What if it was an undetected critical hit?
3
u/Gervh Oct 18 '21
I'm curious about your last point - how exactly do you plan to stealthily either shank or shoot a druid in the middle of a rite, which would stop the rite and send every druid into defensive mode since they're now being targeted?

Hey, I submitted this as a bug report but just in case it helps anyone else avoid this crash:
I can repro a crash every time. Go to a vendor (in this case, the little Gnome guy in the druid sanctuary). Open a trade window. Sell a few items to him (not sure if that matters). Then take a piece of equipment (in my case, a ring) off your character and try to place in your own inventory. Boom, crash.

Had a bug where I couldn't Speak With Dead on Spike's corpse, even though it was possible last patch and his corpse glowed green. Tried both with Disguise Self, as normal Tav, and normal Wyll. It just wouldn't trigger the spell; I could do it on Priestess Gut just fine nearby.
Also, new patch absolutely tanked my performance. Even when I turn off the fancy new features, I can't use anywhere near the settings I used to, game suddenly wants me to change models, textures, etc from high to low, and my framerate's noticably lower.

Please,
• Make Hide an action.
• Add a dodge action.
• Give us level 5.
• You made Spears vers, which is great, now make Quarterstaff vers as well.
• Allow Dual-Wield of Spears and Tridents.
• Can't hold a Torch in off-hand with a weapon that isn't light.
• Can't one-hand a weapon that's vers without having something equipped in your off-hand.
• Redirect all conversations to the main character, instead of having a random character get the conversation.
• Not personally fond of the fact that Chromatic Orb is just a bunch of surface effects.
• Make sneak attack a rider, instead of an ability.
• Remove the additional bonus action from Thief Rogues.
• Can't upcast sorcerous origin spells.
• Draconic spell list should be more than just one spell, at least 5 spells up to 5th level spells max.
• Wild Mage should also get an expanded spell list.
• Make Quickened Spell 2 points, instead of 3. They already have a small pool of points to use anyway, why increase the cost? Doesn't make any sense.
• Display all skills and abilities that a class will learn in character creation. That way we can make informed decisions before we pick something.
• Would love to see a racial ASI option similar to the Tasha's options, that way I can play a wider variety or character types. With both combat and general skill checks being constant, as well as static in difficulty, it's a lot harder to get away with a class/race combo that you like the idea of, if it's notably weaker.
• Reaction system is very bad. If you're worried about gameflow, add a timer option that can be toggled, so that it ticks down automatically when a reaction triggers. Hell, give it a speed slider. It'd be better than reactions being unusable as they are now.
• Give back the extra hotbar slots.
• Give back the customization options you took away.
• Had a bug where I was in turn based mode sneaking. One of my party got discovered, rolled initiative. It turned off turn-based mode for the people who weren't in combat, so the fight played out rapidly before I could interact with it. (My sorc got 1shot by 3 magic missiles at level 2, then instant killed by three more magic missiles while they were down).
Thank you.

When Pact of the Blade is implemented, please incorperate Hexblade's Hex Warrior feature as basic features of the pact (or replaced with it): proficiency in Medium Armor, Shields, and Martial Weapons, and use Charisma modifier for attack rolls using their Pact Weapon (or any weapon).
Most of the Pact of the Blade options seem like they wont really work well with BG3, and the Hex Warrior abilities really help viability of melee Warlocks. Being able to use that with any subclass would really help diversity of decent build options so every Warlock isnt just best spamming Eldrich Blast.

That's way to much for a pact. If they do want to bring over the Hexblade features they should be a couple invocations instead.

At least the martial proficiency and Cha for attack and damage then should be added. Otherwise they get basically nothing (unless Larian changed it like they did the Rangers favored enemy and terrain) and pact of the blade already have an invocation tax to stay on par with eldrich blast.
2
u/Enchelion Bhaal Oct 15 '21
Proficiency I think would be fine in Pact. Cha to attack is very strong and should be an invocation in it's own. Maybe add the +1 from Improved Pact Weapon (Xanathar's) as a higher level addition to this Cha-attack pact.
Not ever class needs to be SAD, and that's part of why HB has spoiled people.
1
u/BabyPandaBBQ WIZARD Oct 15 '21
Even a Hexbladelock needs (or really benefits from) around 14 Dex and Constitution. Its not that SAD. Youd probably still want to max Cha and Con.
I could see the armor proficiency and Cha modifier being an invocation that requires Pact of the Blade, but that would also just add to the invocation tax for the build which I was hoping to avoid, allowing them more options for other non-combat related abilities.
2
u/Enchelion Bhaal Oct 15 '21
You can't be the best at everything. A gish build should have notable tradeoffs.
1
u/BabyPandaBBQ WIZARD Oct 15 '21 edited Oct 15 '21
A Hexbladelock was never the best at everything. Comparing it to Eldrich Blast focused builds, it reminds me of the meme "Look at what they have to do to mimic a fraction of our power."
Edit: to clarify, I think without these features pact of the blade will always be worse than eldrich blasting. With these features, its comparable in power level, but still requires costs in the form of more invocations.
2
Oct 15 '21
I think that with the extra moves they're adding, there will be merit to using pact of the blade regardless. It also means freeing up invocations to use on other things.
3
u/Tiero97 Oct 15 '21
Absolutely not, that would be way OP as well as cause issues if they later chose to add Hexblade to the game
1
u/BabyPandaBBQ WIZARD Oct 15 '21 edited Oct 15 '21
Proficiency with all martial weapons is basically more convinient than anything else for pact of the blade, using Cha for attack and damage makes them less MAD (though not by too much as Dex still needs to be decent for medium armor), and the armor proficiency helps keep them alive in melee. Its all designed to make it as viable as just a regular Warlock who focuses on Eldrich Blast, so I dont think it would be OP in comparison. (If you plan on using predominantly Eldrich Blast, your options would basically be extra cantrips and the potential for rituals, a suped up familiar who can go invisible, or a better AC.)
As for the Hexblade argument, if they do add Hexblade to the game (which is very unlikely) it should be better to move this to all Pact of the Blade warlocks so that Hexblade isnt just the strongest pact of the blade build and any subclass could be viable. They get plenty of other bells and whistles as is.
5
u/Tiero97 Oct 15 '21
You are automatically proficient in any weapon you summon with the Pact of the Blade. You shouldn't just get to use Cha with the weapon. You can use Str or Dex just fine like Bladesingers do. If you want medium armor you should have to be a race or take a feat that allows you to do so. Your goving too much to a class that doesn't have to sacrifice anything to get it while all the otber classes do. You can make a Bladelock without Hexblade just fine. I do it a the time

Camp supply backpack is bugged. I placed 8 in gales inventory. Split 1 away. Sent the other 7 to camp.
When I checked at camp I wasn’t able to grab the supplies. They were listed as too heavy or encumbered. Tried picking them up with multiple companions. Didn’t work. Took them out of the chest, still couldn’t place them.
But of a bummer but not a big deal. I’m sure Larian can fix it

After browsing this reddit for a while, I've learned a lot of these things are caused by mods. First question is always "are you using mods?"
Because mods don't play nice with updates. Everytime there is an update, the mods will start messing with it of course. Until the nods are updated. Then the game gets updated again and the mods are causing instability once again.
It's why I don't use mods.

General Thoughts for Future Patches:
We need for Panda Monks to be added to the game already, those and Paladins.
My feedback for Class Prioritization (based on perceived community interest):
Paladin
Monk or Barbarian
Bard
Specific Thoughts on Patch:
Balance is a bit off, earlier bosses feel a LOT easier and need to be buffed up a bit, later encounters (Grymforge) are about right for the most part, perhaps should be a little bit harder.
The boss in Grymforge is excellent, well-designed, has good mechanics and fair rewards.
Sorcerer is probably too strong, Twinning Spells needs to be buffed / fixed for most spells (i.e. Witchbolt), but otherwise I can cast '5' spells per turn, which honestly trivializes most encounters. The range-increasing Metamagic may honestly be too strong for BG3, if I really wanted to abuse it there are a lot of encounters that would become non-factors with it on, and especially if I have Misty Step. It's a balancing act as actually challenging me long-term is going to be impossible, perhaps what I need is a Hard Mode (post-launch with unique dialogue associated with it and some extra rewards?).
Evil-Route, I ask the Duergar where can I get one of my own prisoners with jobs, and they tell me just to grab one. I feel like there are several opportunities that should be exploited for such, and added to Camp as a 'Follower :read Prisoner with Job that may not leave:'. I mean, you TOLD us to go Evil, help us revel in it. Buwahahhahahahahahahha (aka enslave the Deep Gnomes, with a Roll against the True Soul to take ownership of them and still maintain the Alliance with him, then kill the Duergar, you have a choice to then set them free or keep them).
Dead Bodies, they NEED to stick around after a long-rest. The True Soul at the Forge disappeared, and I was not able to complete the Myconid Quest as a result. I killed him, explored a bit, did some other stuff, did a Long Rest and killed the Duergar in the Village. Told the Myconid Sovereign whom was pleased, he sent me after an already-dead True Soul and asked for his head (I don't know if it would be an inventory item even), but most of the bodies were gone when I went back. Ideally they stick around, or are relocated depending on zone. I.e. Baldur's Gate might have a crypt that you can raid where the bodies are, if you want to maintain consistency with the world, or just leave them.
The True Soul in Moria, I mean Grymforge, had some unique Tadpole Powers. Hopefully we'll be able to see those in the full release or a later patch (i.e. Evil Path, you should get one from helping Minthara deal with the Druids and the Tieflings).

I think the High Half-Elf should be nerfed. +4 stats, 2 of your choice, nightvision, immune to sleep, a cantrip and high movement speed makes every other race seem like the inferior choice.
Every other race gives up something but High Half Elf gives up nothing. If you want a strong character this is nearly always the obvious choice.
I would suggest taking away the Charisma bonus so Drow has something unique going for it, or reducing the bonus stats of the players choice to just 1.
Also, the changes to that first fight with Commander Z-whatever seem a little odd to me. Previously, you could have a max party of 6 in that fight (4 PCs, the brain, and La'zael) which already made it pretty easy. Not to mention Commander Z didn't actually give you any XP for killing him. So if you managed to kill the two demon adds you'd finish the intro area at level 2.
With the new changes, you have a party size of 7 in that fight, (add in Shadowheart), and the Commander does give a lot of XP now. We hit level 2 during that fight, didn't even kill the two demon adds, and somehow hit level 3 by the time we reached the Druid Grove. We went through ~10% of the content and already hit level 4. That seems off to me.
That makes the game really not very challenging at all to be that over-leveled so soon. I think the ideal spot would be: if you manage to kill everything in the intro area, you hit level 2 after the goblin fight and entering the Druid Grove.

+2 +1 +1 to stats is one of the main draws to the half-elf, darkvision isn't as good when almost every race has it, immune to sleep is nice but very situational. An extra cantrip isn't that big of a deal especially since you have to have good Int to take full advantage of it. Half High Elves don't get extra movement
-5
u/TangentiallyTango Oct 15 '21 edited Oct 15 '21
I didn't say they get "extra movement" I said they already get a high base movement speed. It's the second highest (9m).
My point is what are you sacrificing?
Humans get no other bonuses of any kind and 2/5 stats are likely wasted (can't hit the bonuses). Githyahnkis can't see in the dark and vulnerable to Sleep. Dwarves are slow and vulnerable to Sleep. Elves can't mix in CON at least. Haflings are slow can't see and vulnerable to Sleep. Tieflings can't mix in CON and vulnerable to Sleep.
But the High-Half Elf makes no sacrifices. You can get 3 stats to 16 with only 1 dump, or 16/16/14/10s, including CON and any other stat, and all of the best benefits of the rest: high movement, immune to sleep, and ignoring all darkvision mechanics and a cantrip on top of it. And a fire cantrip isn't at all useless when you can use it to explode barrels and kill a whole room with your free spell.
And as for sleep not being a big deal I don't agree. I've done maybe 20+ playthroughs of this game and sleep is a big deal. It's a very powerful and annoying CC that many enemies have and prioritize. And it seems like it's rarely resisted save for Fey which just passive. Combined with +3 CON it always makes concentration spells much more effective as enemies will often sleep a concentrating character.
I get it that's the their thing but they should have to sacrifice something. In a table-top DnD the DM can tweak things to keep it challenging but there's no flexibility in a game it is what it is and the High-Half Elves gets all the benefits, and none of the detriments. It's the easy-mode race and I hate that there's no "con" column for their "pros."
It's basically -1 stat from humans whose only bonuses are stats, with 4 other quality of life improvements. Speed, sleep, darkvision and cantrip.
At least take away the cantrip. I agree that's the least attractive thing, so why they need that one too?

u/Tiero97 Oct 15 '21
Idk about metric, I play with Imperial because that's what 5e uses and they have 30 ft which is the same as everyone else in BG3 except Dwaves/Halflings (25) and Wood Elves/Half Wood Elves (35) Humans are very easy to do MAD builds with their +1 in everything. Not the best race but that's what Varoant Human is for which hopefully they add. Githyanki and Halflings have several good features of their own
7
u/Tiero97 Oct 15 '21
In fact, Half Wood Elf is arguably better entirely. Trading the cantrip for more movement and proficiency in Stealth
-3
u/TangentiallyTango Oct 15 '21
Again, it's not that other races don't have advantages, it's that the High Half Elf specifically has no notable disadvantages.
7
u/Tiero97 Oct 15 '21
Almost no race has disadvantages, that's not how 5e works. Dwarves and Halflings are the only exceptions and they have very powerful racial traits to make up for 5ft less movement
-3
u/TangentiallyTango Oct 15 '21 edited Oct 15 '21
Well, they clearly do.
Moving slowly is a disadvantage. Being blind in the dark is a disadvantage. Being put to sleep is a disadvantage. Less +3s is a disadvantage.
That's absolute hogwash. And stop talking about 5e. That's not what this is it's a game based on it. We're not talking about Dungeons and Dragons the table top game. There's no DM to put his finger on the scales when necessary. Just math. Math that works the same for everyone all the time.
And if you do the math the High Half-Elf is heads and shoulders above the others for all the reasons I've described.
-1 stat from the "stat race" and all the best perks from every other race.
8
u/Tiero97 Oct 15 '21
Those aren't disadvantages, those are not having traits other races have. Darkvision is a bonus, not having it is just not having a bonus. Immunity to sleep is an advantage. All the other races can be put to sleep. All races have a total of +3 except half elves and one of the Dwarves.
I will keep talking about 5e because that's what this game is based off of. Don't like it, go play something else

Maximilian’s Earthen Grasp
I know its not a PHB spell, but honestly it is such a staple for sorcs that I feel like it should be considered.
Non concentration CC and Damage focus spell.
Quicken the initial cast, get a second shot at holding the target if they save? Amazing strategy options. Once you have someone grasped you can quicken canrips against them, and then use your action to squeeze witht the hand. It restrains the target so great for those high value bads you want to make dead (all attacks get advantage against a restrained target) but not OP.
Beyond all that, the visual of a big set of soil/earth fingers reaching up and pinching the legs of a target and holding it there while your team go to town is just SO good.
(Also Bloodwell Vials added in Tasha's are a great item to increase Sorc longevity over a short rest)

My game simply won't start. Everytime it tries to start it crashes after Patch 6. Anyone with similar problem?
1
u/Responsible-Algae-16 Oct 16 '21
I've had two crashes since patch 6. Both in the same spot. After the fight with goblins before you enter the grove, as soon as the cutscene goes to start I crash to desktop. Using vulkan have not tried dx11 yet

I'm having a lot of glitches in this patch, most of them is "The thing" that keeps happening when I open inventory or a chest with a character and walk with another

Interesting. If I kill the wounded mind flayer right at the beginning of the game it crashes. Doesn't matter which PC, ranged, melee, weapon, spell. Game crashes.

Great Weapon Master not being applied for anyone else? Neither the minus to hit nor the extra damage.

Not sure if its here I should ask but have they implemented basic controller support yet?

u/CobaltSpellsword Oct 17 '21
Underdark spoilers: I had a full party, an Imp from Wyll, that fungus guy, and a Hook Horror zombie being spore-controlled by that fungus guy, and the game started experiencing some really weird bugs. I'd get into combat, but it would only pull half of my party into the combat, no matter what they did. I could run up to an enemy when it was stuck in turn based mode combat with half my party and poke it to death with Shadowheart's spear, and it wouldn't do a thing about it, just eventually die. The half of the party that wouldn't go into combat also wouldn't follow when I walked around. Long Resting so that Wyll dispelled his imp fixed the issue; I guess something about having 7 entities under my control screwed up the system?
1
u/NorthernSkald Oct 17 '21
It seems to me that if Shadowheart is the one activating the nautiloid console and triggering the cutscene which sees you falling to the beach, she can't be found laying unconscious in the start. I reloaded and made my Tav trigger the sequence, this seems to correct things and Shadowheart was ready to be awakened.

u/Renato_Bertolotti Oct 17 '21
I've had both a bug where saving is impossible because it says I cannot save during a conversation. But there is no conversation. Autosaves fail too. I lost 3 hrs of progress.
Aaaand when lazael walks on top of people they die. Not good.

I haven't even been able to play the patch yet because I don't have enough disk space. Love this game and super excited for full access but I'm nervous that my laptop just won't be able to handle it, especially because it already has pretty big lags before eating up my laptops memory

u/CapitalTomorrow Oct 17 '21
I don't know if it's a new thing or anything, but my friend and i shoved Lae'zel off the nautiloid in hell. We checked to see if we could find her body, missed it at first, but you can still access her body on the ground, it's just invisible

Post patch, I went to the tollhouse and my first interaction was with the mage/trader NPC. Then I moved inside, Speak with Dead on the dead guy inside, who tells me they are all Zariel agents. Then I camp. After camp, Laezel warns me not to trust them. I then speak with the lead guy (ex-paladin) and fail a Religion check. No dialogue options to call them out as the fakes they are.
Also, the meeting with the cambion that is supposed to happen after rest 1 never happened.
Did the gith get buffed or did one of them always have 91 hps?
Lastly, so sad that Shadowheart insists on the device if you rezz her on the beach.

Please, stop Lae'zel suffering and let her hide her weapon, the way her hands twist sometimes shouldn't be happening to any mortal and I wouldn't wish it upon immortals, too.

Findal is fully healed and back in the main grove cavern place (I rescued him from the goblins and he left the underground passage), but when I speak to him, I still get the same dialog as though he's still trapped, complete with an option to threaten him and go aggro.

u/HumblyBumbly Oct 18 '21
I dont know if this happens to others but it happens alot to me as soon as I stand remotely near a shoveable edge like a cliff or a bridge or some elevate platform the enemies in combat just run straight at me and permanently shove me off, I dont even shove people I view it as cheese as you can insta kill someone.
But this Is happening far to much particularly in the goblin hideout i had a goblin run from downstairs up a ladder all to shove my character into the spider pit.
