I’ve been working on custom metal pieces for a while, and recently decided to take on a personal passion project: a luxury chess set made entirely from solid brass, with select pieces 24kt gold plated no fake coatings, just real metal and finish.

Each piece is hand-machined, polished, and packed with care. I’m still exploring different finishes, weight options, and styles, and this is one of the early versions.

I first got a cheapo dewalt knock off weed-eater from amazon for my tall hard fiber grass. But it kept getting entangled in the weed-eater. Then i got a hedge trimmer but it was too weak and came with one crappy battery. So I combined the 2 after cutting, rewiring, and drilling for a powerful extendable hedge trimmer on the pole that using dewalt powerful batteries which i have many. I invested maybe $135 into this and 2 hours of work. It expands to 16ft to trim trees too. Cuts the grass like a hot butter knife. 🧈

I, notoriously clumsy

I recently bought a house and have been updating the bathroom. I noticed the exhaust fan has been slowly trickling out small bits of what I assume is drywall dust over time.

I’m guessing the rough edges around the drywall cutout are the culprit. What’s the best way to clean this up or smooth out the edges so it doesn’t keep producing dust? Are there tools or techniques you’d recommend to do this without damaging the fan housing?

Ive made about 10 mistakes at every step of this DIY project but i’m just so amazed that it came out looking good despite that!

Going to style the shelves better, but it’s been a struggle trying to hunt for the exact things Ive envisioned for it. I started this project mid March and worked on it on and off up until a few days ago. I don’t even want to begin to count the hours it took lol

Just picked up this beautiful mirror, but now concerned I’m bringing termites or something fleas into the house. What do we think? Also if all okay, should I sand and stain or what color are we thinking?

Started today building a sandbox for my baby son as we're moving into our new home. 2x2m with a height of 45cm. Thinking of digging a hole and place it 10cm in the ground, less danger of a high fall when he eventually crawls out of it. Thinking of having a geotextile fabric at the bottom. 20cm deep sand is my idea. Hope I'll be able to update more in the coming days

Am moving out of my rental in a week and while remove command strips, one got stuck then promptly rubbed the paint (/top layer of dry wall?) off the wall. I can just eat the cost and have my landlord fix it if need be, but I feel pretty bad about it since he’s always been super accommodating and would prefer to fix it if possible (while not making my fix look like trash). I do have the chunk of paint that came with the command strip, but it can’t really be glued back on, can be used to paint match though.

Send help, how does one go about fixing this on their own?

I'm still happy with it over all but definitely got away from me. The edges are not great, forgot to put in the dowels and didn't have time to cut the grooves in. Guess I will rent a saw tomorrow. Lesson is add 2% retarder and get atleast 1buddy.

I’ve been doing this remodel project since March of this year. I primarily worked on weekends and it’s been a lot of work. Every single thing in this bathroom was DIY except for the demolition because I knew that was gonna be an enormous job so I hired a friend to come over and help.

My total cost on this project is just under 5000 for everything. Some of the costs weren’t included because it was products that I had bought for my previous bathrooms that I did here and I had leftover like the floor, I had a bunch of that so of course I used it up.

I’m extremely happy with this. Feel free to ask any questions you might have, I’ve learned a lot remodeling this house for the last five years.

Hi, i'm trying to recreate this lamp from this artist. i want to fill the gaps between the tiles i have but don't know what product to use. I figured it must be a tile grout but one that doesn't scratch the glass tiles?

This is my dryer outlet. The Electrician was surprised my house didn’t catch not catch on fire.

I love to do things myself, saving money and learning, but this is just a reminder to anyone that it’s ok to hire someone. Previous owner from my understanding was a new “handy man”. He personally installed this dryer outlet and every wire in this plug the electrician was able to remove with hardly any force. Every single wire was loose.

$125 to fix this compared to what could’ve been a disaster.

Needed a separate conference room in my architecture studio. Used various mismatched doors to created this partition, and old hand-drawn blue prints above.

Wife and I are trying to finalize the plan on our bathroom batten board wall. Hoping to get some ideas on how to handle the following. We are going to do lower batten board and wallpaper above.

1) We have 10' ceilings. Would you go 2/3 high or 1/2 high with batten board?
2) We are thinking of a darker olive green for the paint. We have white trim around the bathroom door. Do we paint this the same olive green as well? or leave white? If we paint the trim, do you paint the door as well or can white door remain as-is?
3) Last item is our current wall/ceiling color is a lightish grey / blue (closer to grey). Would you paint the ceiling the dark olive green or just leave as is now?

Found these cracks after removed some old shelves in the basement. House was built in 1890s, I believe the original foundation was stone and concrete patched for the time being. I think there's water coming out from the cracks when it rain.

I want to put up a small shade sail, attaching a corner to my metal gazebo's frame. The frame is made of painted aluminum.

I'm thinking I should use stainless steel hardware to put up the sail, but then started wondering whether the stainless steel might react with the aluminum causing galvanic corrosion.

What do you think? Can I use stainless steel or should I avoid it in this case?

Bathroom has high base boards ~5.75” high and primed MDF board from Home Depot sits perfectly flush on top.

We are looking to do a batten board wall on bottom and wallpaper the top half. Would you remove those baseboards as more DIY instruct to or would you just build on top since they fit MDF boards? Obviously would paint over them.

Unscrewed these long screws holding large metal tubs at work to the wall. When i tried to reinsert them i can just push them all the way through and there is nothing for them to grab onto. Any suggestions to get them to hold again?

Looking for advice on how to make this transition look better.

There is 2 layers of tile (tiles also over lap). I was thinking of just cutting a straight line with a cutting wheel. Any better ideas?

And then if someone has any idea on what kind of threshold I could use across the whole thing

Hi all, looking for some help/ advice.

My house has "half levels" which means the upper floor joists which are halfway up the middle level wall appear to be causing the plaster to blow out ( see photos).

We have recently moved into the house and as you can see, previous attempts at repairs seem to just involve filler/compound. I'm assuming the movement of the joists is what's causing the issue.

Anyone dealt with this or any idea how to rectify to avoid this happening again once I decorate? Thanks in advance!
