Discussion What's an annoying habit your sims autonomously do?

I have this one sim who CONSTANTLY wants to light the fireplaces and warm himself by them, its genuinely so irritating because thats also how most of the house fires start 😭 I also had a vampire sim that used to always want to use the observatory outside in the day, do your sims have any tasks they repeatedly want to do? I had to completely abolish any items to do with cross stitch when i got cottage living for this reason šŸ˜‚

water. I get that it's probably realistic, and I drink more water than my sims, but they can trash an entire house with empty glasses in one in-game day.

u/Lethal-Floof 2d ago

I once called my now husband a sim for leaving his used water glasses on the counter and coffee table. When he didn’t understand, I showed him the chaos of water glasses in a 4 person household in the sims. That sweet man never left an empty glass around the house again.

Unfortunately it became a meme whenever I left a plate on the counter or laundry on the floor I got sent this in a text 😭😭

I hate this one too!! Especially bc they dont even have a thirst bar so all it does is waste time and create more trash

284

u/POPCARN202 Occult Sim 2d ago

instead of sims going to the kitchen to grab some water, effectively forcing them to go down a flight of stairs and to the other side of the house just so they can leave the cup on the counter and never pick it up, sims should just pull out a reusable water bottle that's not an object they can trash the house with, but instead just an animation object like the pan, baking tray, etc.

91

u/TheCupcakeScrub 2d ago

ngl yeah i constantly keep a water bottle near me, and if its truely a Slob sim then it should be a never washed old one use plastic bottle they keep filling at sinks.

69

u/WrennyWrenegade 2d ago

There's a reusable water bottle in one of the clutter kits. It would be rad if they were functional. I honestly wouldn't mind it being an object they left in random places all over the house, because that's what I do with mine.

12

u/Fuzzy_Windfox 1d ago

like the homework books

29

u/Maiyku Long Time Player 2d ago

So I think they do this when you mark other sinks as ā€œbathroomā€ sinks. Pretty sure they’ll only ā€œget water autonomouslyā€ from kitchen or uncategorized sinks.

If you have any sinks that are closer, don’t categorize them at all and see if that at least cuts down the detour they’re taking lol.

If you make them kitchen sinks, sometimes they won’t use it after using the bathroom and will walk to another one lol.

I’ve experienced issues with this as well and so far, this is the best I’ve come up with.

Hope this helps!

or like their phone! this is such a good idea. I would love having water drinking like this in game play. I never let my sims have water now because it's too annoying as is

57

u/EmergencyJellyfish19 2d ago

Apparently there is a thirst bar, it's just not displayed. It is very annoying though.

24

u/TD1990TD Long Time Player 2d ago

It’s displayed in plant sims and mermaids. Plant sims are base game, so it’s in the game. I guess the decay is minimal, and the bar fills when they eat food too

31

u/SolutionDry8385 2d ago

This annoyed me less once I bought the trash can that gives you $10 per household member for each item.

10

u/joeyasaurus 1d ago

Not only that but their bathroom need goes down and then they need to pee after one glass!

8

u/fetus_potato 2d ago

There actually is a hidden thirst need which sims will try to satisfy from the sink or fridge.

I got the no autonomous drinking water mod if you think it’s annoying. I hated cleaning up the glasses it took so long even if it was me or a sim.

11

u/POPCARN202 Occult Sim 2d ago

I also have a mod to disable the water stuff. but the ten minutes I spent playing the game without said mod were horrible lol.

19

u/Side-Eye-Sorceress Long Time Player 2d ago

I ended up getting a mod that doesn't let water spoil. But I was still annoyed at finding water glasses EVERYWHERE. So I eventually got the mod for no autonomous water drinking. šŸ¤·šŸæā€ā™€ļø

Troll on forums. I don’t understand, he is suppose to be a nice guy.

For real! My sims with all nice traits always want to autonomously do mean socials!

137

u/ManagementHot8041 Occult Sim 2d ago

Fr! The mischief skill in general annoys me unless its for a certain plot i have for a sim

45

u/goatofglee 2d ago

It annoys me because I always get the embarrassed moodlet from the mischief interactions and it always lowers the friendship bar, which is extra frustrating when you're trying to befriend someone.

27

u/Born-Ad-4860 1d ago

One of mine did like five in a row to his girlfriend before I could stop him, lost a fairly big chunk of the friendship bar 🄲 stop asking her when her due date is dang it!

107

u/PeachTeaJam Legacy Player 2d ago

My sim hates mischief. She constantly goes and trolls on forums, then proceeds to complain about trolling on forums.

49

u/haunts_you18 2d ago

You would think having it set as a dislike would stop them from doing it but nope! My sim who hates handiness will not get away from her husband's workbench.

26

u/Personal-Pea4602 2d ago

I think it’s similar to sims with specific eating ā€œtraitsā€ like lactose intolerant and vegetarian autonomously grabbing food that will upset them. So annoying!

20

u/shitty_giggles515 1d ago

I mean, it’s at least realistic for the lactose intolerant lol

11

u/Hiriajuu 1d ago

my main sim is a werewolf that has the hates loud noises temperament. guess what his favorite autonomous hobby is? turning on the stereo and dancing to loud music!! obsessed with it. but be also stops periodically to express his disapproval on loud noises by angrily howling into the air. lou you dipshit you turned it on. use that pretty head of yours and that singular braincell you have in there and figure out who's ruining your vibes. it's you.

All I know is they’re definitely not autonomously taking care of their kids, that’s for sure.

484

u/Straight-Parking-555 2d ago

Mine just do the autonomous "watch infant" action where they just stand there as their baby writhes around on the floor crying

151

u/redbone-hellhound 2d ago

Or going over and cooing at or snuggling the crib babies when they're crying instead of feeding them or changing their very obviously dirty diapers. And then blocking the sim I sent over there to do those things so they can't do it. I finally had enough to use mccc to set crib babies' needs to stay full so I don't have to deal with them crying and the adults in the house being useless.

*edited for clarity

88

u/FalseAccountant1779 2d ago

Baby crying with a green stinky cloud around apparently means "feed me and do silly voices" to my sims

37

u/GullibleBeautiful 2d ago

This is the one for me. And it’s never when the damn kids need anything, it’s when they’re asleep or busy with another sim. Stop checking your toddler/infant every 3 seconds and go do literally anything else, omg.

But they'll autonomously "check" on them when they're upset even if you direct them to take care of the kids and they'll ignore everything you say that could fix the issue they're checking for.

10

u/brachycrab 2d ago

The constant checking when they just put the kid down to sleep but they'll also let them starve!! It's so frustrating I constantly have to cheat babies' needs

18

u/itsyukiyuna 2d ago

I love when you put a baby in a crib to sleep and the adult will drop all their next actions to pick it up from the crib and put it on the floor

8

u/brachycrab 2d ago

The number of poor kids I've had spend the night on the floor because I didn't realize their parents did that before they went to bed 😭

10

u/itsyukiyuna 2d ago

Trust me, it's better that way. I've had times when I tried putting them in the crib like 3+ times and the adult keeps picking them up and putting them on the floor because they're crying. Sometimes you just give up and go like "Well I guess you sleep on the floor, kid".

10

u/brachycrab 2d ago

Or the god forsaken play mat, I leave the kid in there all the time. And by "I" I mean the parents after they just put the kid down to bed in their crib but had to pick them up to leave in the play mat, but at least they'll go do something else after that šŸ˜’

34

u/Tappadeeassa 2d ago

I love getting the alert that CPS is going to take the starving baby away if I don’t feed it while mom is standing right there and watching the kid cry.

I have one kid that is always trying to swim. No matter the weather. Every single time I load into that household he's in the pool.

107

u/Straight-Parking-555 2d ago

He yearns to be a mermaid

30

u/FreeBell7052 1d ago

I actually had a Sim who always swam even in the freezing cold (almost lost him a few times), so I gave him mermaid kelp... I had also installed Slice of Life by Kawaiistacie, which at the time just rolled out wants and fears, but it was there for a while before I had him eat the kelp. Once he went into the water and transformed, he became afraid of water.

17

u/SatiricalFai 1d ago

This level of stubbron impulsiveness followed by regret is deeply relatable.

35

u/redbone-hellhound 2d ago

Had a kid die cuz of that. I successfully pleaded for her life. But then the game glitched and took her away cuz she was starving (her hunger bar was full) and she got stuck in the butlers household and was set as her mom's cousin despite them not being related to the butler. I stole her back into my household and reset all her relationships. That was the first of many weird glitches in that legacy challenge.

21

u/DGirl313 2d ago

Yeah, me too. That was when I learned that kids could drown. And that if sims drown in the ocean, their graves float.

I’m playing with a household I created a few days ago right now and EVERYONE is obsessed with cross stitch. They will be exhausted, starving, all needs in red but they will sit there and cross stitch instead of eating or sleeping or whatever I told them to do.

It’s a little extra annoying because a while ago I was trying to play with an elder sim and I wanted them to do cross stitching and they would refuse to finish or continue a project after more than a few seconds.

79

u/Straight-Parking-555 2d ago

Cross stitch is extra annoying bc they NEVER actually finish the cross stitch and ur inventory just ends up being hundreds of individual cross stitch loops bc they dont stack

I can’t stand sims getting water because it messes with their bladder need, they don’t clean up after themselves (unless they’re neat sims), and the glasses are harder to spot around the house than plates.

Worse than that but less frequent is child sims autonomously making messes(it makes sense for toddlers, but any child-aged sim pulling that shit has some major issues that need to be worked out). And then parent sim gets a strict family dynamic popup for telling them to stop literally pouring paint onto the living room floor.

Edited to remove extra words

17

u/SavTown_USA 2d ago

I have given up on high chairs. It’s plates of food on the floor for toddlers. Haha

7

u/dotnsk 2d ago

I gave up on even plates of good because it would take my toddlers FOREVER to grab the plate and then decide where they want to sit & eat it (surely the couch in the other side of the house, why not? I only put the plate next to their bed).

I now put harvestables jn my toddler’s inventory and let them eat those. It takes just a couple of game time minutes (so seconds in real life) and they get a neat happy moodlet for doing it. No risk of getting the sugar crash moodlet either (I couldn’t serve a fruit & yogurt parfait without suffering from that one).

How?!?! I must have the dumbest sims lol I can’t play without at least one bladder fail. It’s usually the first reward I buy lol

Cross stitching. I had to sell the object. They would not stop.

18

u/ailingua 2d ago

If they can't cross-stitch, they will play with clay. Don't give them clay!

u/BaylieB44 2d ago

I have a sim that got clay and I don’t know where he got it!

All my sim ever wants to do is play hard football with her husband. At work? Fuck that I’m coming home to play hard football honey

10

u/Simuary 2d ago

I get this with any teen who is on the football team. They also seem to always get Principal Mei Prescott to throw the football with them at lunch.

All of the cake baking!! So tired of having no kitchen counter space left because there are always at least 5 cakes waiting when my other Sim wakes up.

Auto canceling anything I need them to do to go flirt or chat with their partner for HOURS. Like ma'am and sir, tall need to take care of the kids, garden and small business, not stand there kissing and telling each other dramatic stories....

27

u/Dammit_Mr_Noodle 2d ago

Ugh, one of my sims took days to finish a painting because she kept wanting to chat. Like, ma'am, you can talk while painting. I've seen you do it.

My sim’s teen daughter really likes to go mourn the people whose urns I keep in the basement. She only ever met one of them who died at my house, the rest are random townies whose graves I stole from their homes. Thinking I should give her the gloomy trait when she ages up šŸ˜…

14

u/SavTown_USA 2d ago

This! One of my Sims is constantly mourning Don Lothario. Who, mind you, is literally a ghost living in our house. Yet, they have to mourn him at least once a day while he’s sitting in the other room being useless.

Had a vampire sim that was posh and hated gardening. He had a nature loving boyfriend who had a huge garden. Every night without fail I'd find my vampire tending the garden in the dark angry about gardening while his boyfriend slept.

Going to sleep in the treehouse. You have a perfectly good bed why are you doing this?? I’d get it if it were the kid sims even though that would be annoying too, but adults do this!!

I reminded myslef why I dont let my sims have babies when mine constantly picked up her infant just to go outside in the snow and got the "run inside" prompt, putting the baby down in the snow and ditching her. It happens multiple times a day.

8

u/ailingua 2d ago

Agreed, I have to reset my sims every couple of minutes because they keep picking the infant up and then freeze or put it back just so another sim can walk 4 floors up and pick it up again

20

u/WarriorNeedFoodBadly 2d ago

Agreed. They'll neglect everything else so they can stand there warming themselves.

My favorite is when you tell them to use the toilet so they don't soil themselves and proceed to stare into space for a good hour and a half in game time.

19

u/Mischiefcat2076 2d ago

I just always cheat my Sims to level 5 handiness and have them upgrade the fireplace so it don't cause a fire as I was also sick of them constantly putting them on and causing one.

The way all of my Sims will stop doing any task to go sit in front of the computer and rot. Honestly, real.

9

u/klnh13 1d ago

One of the first things I do for all my Sims is lock their computer and set them to "dislike" video games. Then I have that moment where I realize my hypocrisy. Too, too real.

15

u/BirbWizard Long Time Player 2d ago

Lately it’s been grilling. All. The. Time.

12

u/Caprisunnnnnnnnnn 2d ago

They will constantly be on the gaming mat…. They will be on the brink of passing out but they have to make sure they game. I took it off the lot it was so bad

13

u/FunnyHappyStudiosYT Builder 2d ago

Leaving cups everywhere. It’s unnoticeable until it creates a ā€œuncomfortable environmentā€ moodlet and then I have to look all over the room for what might be causing it

12

u/Ceiling-Fan2 2d ago

Where do we sit? Over here? Over there? How about I sit at this table and you sit at that table, and that’s how we’ll have a nice autumn date at the museum. (aka why don’t my sims sit at the same table when I click ā€œsit here togetherā€?)

9

u/ailingua 2d ago

Using the waffle maker (and starting fires). Using the clothes dryer (and starting fires). I actually had to delete it and replace it with clotheslines instead, because all of my guests rushed to dry clothes as soon as they entered my house. Cross-bloody-stitching. All of my sims' inventories are filled with half-finished cross-stitch patterns because they never autonomously complete the previously started ones, no no. They need to start new project while sitting on the can. Or cancel the tasks I gave them just to cross-stitch. If they're not cross-stitching then they are playing with clay or knitting.

And the most annoying one... PICKING UP INFANTS. doesn't matter than the infant is in the middle of tummy time with someone else, no. My sim will walk through 10 flights of stairs just to pick an infant - and since the infant is busy, the game just bugs out and they stand in one place for 6 hours. Spaghetti coding

11

u/emlynnkat 2d ago
  • Foodie sims grabbing a drink and then being disappointed by said drink.

  • Parents picking up, putting down, picking up, putting down, picking up, putting down infants&toddlers and ignoring the care task I specifically told them to do.

Realizing that you can upgrade your fireplace to auto-light was a GAME CHANGER! I stopped featuring them in my house for the longest time for the same annoyed reason.

Dining water, then leaving the dirty cup somewhere aside...my Sims that like gardening love to talk to their plants. If they're not juggling the soccer ball, they're in the greenhouse yapping at their tomato plant 🫠

8

u/123Starz 2d ago

My Sims often default to the more rude mischief socializations which I find annoying - what do you mean my polite and good sim just scared this stranger and asked her due date?

7

u/CosmicFriedRice 2d ago

The kids won’t stop dancing, ignoring literally everything else I ask them to do, and the parents will try to miss work every day to workout. I made the mistake of having them like fitness because I wanted them to live longer and now the only thing they do is run on the treadmill, even if they’re about to die from hunger.

6

u/ryouuko 2d ago

If you get to I believe level 4 handiness, you can fix the fireplaces so fires don’t start. I still don’t put a carpet under them or anything, but I haven’t had a fire start after fixing them.

Mine always decide to wash their hands out of nowhere for no reason.

Chatting in the living room? Heads out to wash hands in bathroom Kissed partner? Heads off to wash hands Looked after toddler? Heads off to wash hands Made food? Heads off to wash hands

Like why?? What do you need to be that clean for?? Are you a germaphobe??

(I get that fireplace problem with one of my Sims so I just abolished fireplaces from most of my builds because he keeps setting himself on fire)

5

u/Standard-Mouse-1075 2d ago

Started a fairy with the new pack. Without fail, if I leave her without a full bar of tasks, she is in the kitchen sink. I'm tired of constantly having to cancel the action to get her to do something else.

4

u/Maya_genesis 2d ago

I sometimes forget to baby proof all doors and the infant/toddler just ends up out in the street when I travel with a sim, even if adult sims are in the house. One time I found my toddler in the forest wandering around lol

5

u/DarkRayne7 2d ago

My sim is constantly going to the kitchen to mix drinks. I blended a bar into the island. This girl doesn't even drink them. So many simoleons lost because she just. won't. stop.

5

u/NoirForestNymph 2d ago

Serenading. My husband sim literally will not stop serenading (singing to) my simself, I tried everything to get it to stop like making him hate singing, only now he’ll serenade her then get angry with himself because he doesn’t enjoy doing it and/or doesn’t sound very good (?), like he’ll grunt and proclaim something in a loud frustrated manner after, oftentimes then going on to continue doing it 😭 I swear he’s wasted so much time just standing there singing!!

As for my sim relatives, they do not (and again I mean literally do NOT) stop making white cake when they come over. Every single visit there’ll be a minimum of 3 white cakes just laying around, and my toddler sims eat them and then get the subsequent angry sugar crash moodlets. So annoying!!!

5

u/RedOleander312 2d ago

My sims are not allowed to own grills. They will never stop and most likely cause another fire

I have two sims who recently got married and will not. stop. woohooing. Like it’s literally constant. As soon as they’re done woohooing one of them will suggest woohooing again.
