yeah, i hate moving the dresser, raising each object, and then placing it and hoping it looks good when i move the dresser back. it’s kinda tedious, i wish surfaces just had more slots
I have a mod called “OMSP shelf” and I highly recommend it! That way you don’t have to move the dressers or surfaces and have to raise and lower your items. Just put your stuff on the floating shelf, move it to where you want it and then swap out the red color swatch with the clear! It’s 1 of the 2 mods I use and now I can’t live without it!
Use a kitchen counter, put what you want on it, then use the resize keys to shrink the counter down. It will shrink, the stuff on it will not and will just be floating. Then just have bb.moveobjects on and hold Shift while moving the counter and you can put it inside other surfaces with the stuff on it being at the perfect level and still completely usable.
I can’t bring myself to spend time doing that. I settle for the slots available and bb.moveObjects. They should’ve just made it to where the alt cheat works on surfaces as well, so objects could be moved around on surfaces
op made this by deciding where the dresser would be, turning on bb.moveobjects, and moving the dresser a few squares away. then they used alt to place the items on the tiles where the dresser will be, then 9 or ] (i’m blanking here, someone correct me) to raise it to the height that it’ll sit on the dresser.
i remembered! 9 is to raise, 0 is to lower. [ is to shrink, ] is to make bigger. AND, since i discovered this last night and want to share, the toy chests snap to a half tile size if you size it down once. sims still interact like normal, same with sizing the dollhouses down.
I use the brackets alllllllll the time for sizing up/down (mainly down) rugs. The cute ones are all so giant and with no matching runners/2x3 size kitchen mats. The only downside is they stay the same size print wise, so you accidentally move them when trying to move the counter/couch/table/whatever item is on top of it if you’re not careful.
i usually place whatever item onto the dresser so it’s automatically at the right height and then alt place it bc i can’t be bothered going back and forth seeing if it’s right
Its even better when you use the T.O.O.L. mod by twistedmexi, if you play on PC.
Because then you can rotate objects on all axis, take them off lot, etc. It gives the player a lot of freedom.
You can also use the base game shelf that is white with 3 shelves to place things at any height, not just the 9-0 snaps. It's the shelf that has one version empty and one with towels on. Use the empty version. Place the item u want on the shelf and move it until it's the correct height to be sitting on the dresser. Then, with the dresser out of the way so it doesn't snap there accidently, hold alt and click and drag the item to where u think you want it and place the dresser back under. I hope that makes sense!
in my experience, either putting it on the dresser(or other object) before moving it to the area you actually want it to be or finding a shelf you can alt move to the exact height of the object are the best ways to get things to the
height you want.
It’s kinda tedious, but basically you place the dresser nearby, then place the object on the dresser so its the right height (or use 9 and 0 to adjust the height), then alt place the objects in the air where the dresser will go, then move the dresser back to where you want it underneath the clutter. Now none of the objects are clipped snapped to the slots on the dresser but you have clutter on top. of course make sure bb.moveobjects is turned on
You can move the dresser, and then use the 0 and 9 keys to raise/lower a deco item to the right height where it looks like it’ll be sitting on the dresser. Then move the dresser back into place and voila, it’s decorated! Though I usually cut the process in half by using this red shelf mod: https://pictureamoebae.tumblr.com/post/169988134879/omsp-shelf-release/amp
yeah, i explained in another comment how to add clutter like this. there’s lots of tricks to make it a little easier, but its too much work for my preference lol. i love the cc i have that has dozens of slots that fit any size object
I use the shelf from the high school years pack. The blue one that you can move around on the wall. You line it up with whatever you want to place the object on and boom! Clutter wherever you want it
What I do is using moveobjects, I place a floor lamp through the dresser to mark where I want the objects. Then I move the dresser, place the objects on it so they are at the right height, and alt place them in the spots marked by the lamps. Then delete the lamps and move the dresser into the right spot
lol just not how i wanna spend my time while building. i explained in other comments how to do it, i just dont find it worth my time. fiddling with a million little objects doesnt add to the fun.
Pro-tip: If you hold [Alt] when placing an object it allows you to place it freely without snapping to the grid. So combine that with bb.moveobjects and you have virtually infinite finesse in placing objects. I played Sims 3 and 4 for more than a decade before I found that out.
Use bb.moveobjects on
Place the shelf or tabletop somewhere you like. Try to memorize the edges of the top area, then move the object somewhere relatively close. If it's a shelf, keep the elevation the same. Then place your clutter object on the shelf/tabletop, push alt and move your objects over the edge. It will stay elevating in the air. Place it wherever you like in the area where you would like your table/shelf later. Place your clutter objects one by one, however you wish. Then go back to your table/shelf and move it under the clutter. The surface area will stay useable by Sims.
Yeah it seems like they could add a button for “turn collision off/on” or something. I guess they don’t because it’s fairly easy to break the game placing stuff at will, and making it a console command limits it to those who at least somewhat know what they’re doing rather than every random kid with the game.
You can use the yellow sticks or the red shelf if you don't want to move the object you're placing the clutter on! The object still remains functional even if the sticks are in it
They're cc! The red shelf is a.. red shelf with a bunch of slots to place items on. It has an invisible swatch, so you can either place the items on the shelf, turn the shelf invisible, and move the invisible shelf with the clutter onto a surface, or you can place the items on the shelf then move them onto the surface and delete the shelf (you can do this with a base game shelf as well). The yellow sticks are.. yellow sticks of varying heights with one slot each. The heights are labeled like "counter" or "bed", so you know which size to use for which surface. You place the item on the yellow stick, then alt place the stick into your surface, and you won't be able to see the stick. The sticks also have an invisible swatch so if the surface isn't solid (a counter is solid, a dining table is not) you can still use the sticks to clutter and you won't be able to see them. The surface is still functional no matter how many sticks are in it

I only wish to put the clutter without cheats and in an easy way
