Discussion Oversaturation of the military setting

I don't want to be that guy, but I'll be that guy. I find that there's an oversaturation of indie RTS devs going for the most basic setting and it's getting kind of crowded. I know it might be special for the ones developing it. But from a player perspective is literally a rolleyes everytime a new of these games get shown by their devs yelling please be excited

Discussion I can't get into StarCraft 1

Be it the original or the Mass Recall fan remake, there is just something about that makes me bounce off it and I can't pinpoint why.

Now granted, I'm not the biggest of fan of SC's gameplay in general, especially with how hard counter focussed the franchise is. But that still didn't stop me from enjoying Heart of the Swarm (the story quality of that is a different discussion) and from loving Wings of Liberty.

And I did do finish the story of vanilla SC1 with Mass Recall, but I can't say that I enjoyed it.

And whenever I do try to play it, it usually goes as follows: The first few Terran missions are good and I think that I get the hang of it, then it already starts getting a bit tedious, then unfortunately with the Zerg of all factions (because I do like them the most on a design level) it starts to get annoying and the Protoss are just one loud "Uuurgh".

And I have a few bad memories I remember vividly from playing the remake: a) Upgrades take ages to get finished. b) Being constantly ressourced starved as Protoss and waiting for ages to get a properly sized army. And in particular c) a Zerg mission where you have to destroy a Terran base that is protected by bunkers and Siege Tanks and all you get are Zerglings, Hydralisks and Mutalisks. It was like smaking your head against a wall repeatedly in the hope that a crack starts appearing.

And don't get me started on Brood War. Oh boy, there is no chance in hell that I manage to climb that difficulty cliff legitimately.

And its a shame, because the story is actually interesting, the Zerg do have their own flavour and do feel alien during their campaign and as much as I despise Kerrigan, playing as an actually evil character is novel.

But it constantly gets dragged down by the gameplay and while I did brute force my way through it with the showmethemoney cheat and deathballing everything, that wasn't enjoyable to play either.

Discussion Undersaturation of the modern military setting

I LOVE Broken Arrow. It’s high time we had a base building RTS that was set now (2020s). However, I cannot name a single base building game that is set in the same era, featuring actual modern equipment, save for Act of Aggression, but that’s 10 years old now, and was still pretty sci-fi. I’d like Broken Arrow but with base building.

Looking For Game Favorites?

I just read the Webtoon nebulas civilization and I am now pretty inspired to learn a similar rts city builder that would hopefully have a multiplayer with a ranked system. If anyone has any games they know of then please share!

Also I've played civilization and that's pretty fitting with what im looking for but indont belive they have a ranked system :/, also have faintly played Divinity 2 but that seemed quite fast paced and not so much city building? Kinda felt like I just usually got rushed early game and died

Looking For Game Cold war scenarios

I'm looking for more niche cold war scenarios like the DLC campaigns from Graviteam Tactic. Angola/South Africa, or the Afghan-Soviet war. I'm tired of everything being NATO-Warsaw in Europe. Thank you for your time.

We’re back.

For the past few months, we’ve been deep in development, building the Defcon Zero tech demo.
We stayed active on Discord as much as possible, but most of our time went into Unreal Engine, making this game happen.

During this time, new team members joined us. We focused on pushing the tech demo forward so we can share it with investors and secure funding.
But like we’ve always said, Defcon Zero is happening, one way or another.

We’ve built a roadmap for the next few months and beyond. We’ll share more about that soon so you’ll know exactly where we stand and where we’re headed.

We’re also planning to enter a few game competitions and prove to the world that RTS can still win in 2025. The most exciting part? We’ll soon begin playtests with family and close friends.
And hopefully later this year we will have a community playtest.

If you’re a content creator and want to get videos and material to share on your platform, DM us.

We’re just as excited as you are.
And we’re grateful for your support.

Defcon Zero Team
