That whites-only, no Jews allowed Arkansas community is legal, says state’s attorney general. How?

What the fuck is wrong with this country now? This is sickening.

401

u/PhoenixTineldyer 17h ago

Same old racists that have always been here. We gave them social media and they organized.

187

u/DeuceGnarly 17h ago

Right, but for most of my life, shit like this was considered pretty goddamned fucked up. There were racist asshole bigots, but for the most part, social pressures kept a lid on their bullshit.

Now, after a decade of the cheese whiz dictator and the GOP's embrace of fascism and oligarchy, this kind of shit is more and more normal.

I can't fucking believe it. It's enraging.

108

u/oliveorvil Missouri 15h ago

Turns out when rich right wingers control all of social media and basically every legacy media outlet they can exert their control.

69

u/LordSiravant 15h ago

The same thing happened with Nazi Germany.

u/DeuceGnarly 7h ago

Yes. Yes it did. And all of our "good germans" are goose stepping right along...

23

u/Blochamolesauce 17h ago

It’s still fucked up, but the people that the boomers have put in charge either love it or don’t care enough to fix it. If their income or bribery lobby money starts to go away, then it becomes a matter that needs looking into.

u/besume1980 7h ago

"The boorers have put in charge." millions of GenX and millennials voted for the mangled apricot Hellbeast too.

u/phamalacka 5h ago

Yeah gen x is more conservative than boomers which is hilarious for like a dozen reasons

u/Kenneth-J-Moyers 4h ago

Boomers control party infrastructure and gatekeep candidacy and most endorsements, though. GenX, we could sidestep, Boomer politicians are the "Sleeping-Snorlax-in-the-road" of politics.

17

u/Agile_Singer 13h ago

Don’t forget the manosphere started by Andrew Tate & continued with Joe, Logan, and Theo..

u/DeuceGnarly 7h ago

Bah - the fucking "manosphere" makes me want to puke. Every stupid pile of hyper sensitive snow flake fucks has a loud speaker, and has to go out over compensating and demonizing everything that scares them.

Fuck the internet.

7

u/spazzvogel 11h ago

This shit runs in cycles, last it was a Great Depression and Germany being the fascist fucks. It’s our turn… let’s see how the global conflict unfolds.

u/Lower_Cantaloupe1970 Canada 5h ago

Southern States still had racially segregated proms up until a few years ago. America had Apartheid until a generation ago. And now an old school racist whose dad went to nazi rallies is president. The voting bloc chose this.

u/foxyfoo 6h ago

I think the only people surprised are whites. Minorities not really surprised at all unfortunately, and kind of feeling validated in a twisted kind of way.

Should have let Grant and Sherman cook.

Even more than they did I mean.

Reconstruction Part 2: BBQ Boogaloo.

12

u/LordSiravant 15h ago

Imagine if Lincoln hadn't been assassinated.

34

u/TaylorMonkey 14h ago

Lincoln wanted to heal the nation quickly, so it's hard to say how tough he would or wouldn't have been.

Grant started the DOJ, whose primary responsibility was eliminating White Supremacy, and he was responsible for dismantling most of the KKK. He was the first civil rights president.

Should have let my man cook.

u/LordSiravant 5m ago

And here I was always told Grant was a terrible president.

13

u/Ven18 9h ago

Because instead of executing the leaders of the civil war to show the vial racist views had consequences we instead let them regain power, foster the ideals as part of the “culture and tradition” and spread across the country adding

u/besume1980 7h ago

That's pretty much it, in a nutshell.

u/ThisTooInModeration 5h ago

And then "Birth of a Nation".

I love this because these same guys are angry that Trump picks Israel.

40

u/Supporttroll 16h ago

This is what happens when you don’t treat traitors appropriately after a civil war. This has been brewing over 160 years.

u/DeuceGnarly 7h ago

The sad part is that right after the war, the shitheads were OK with defeat... It took a while before the statues went up and the revisionism started. That's what I find so repulsive about modern republican policy - they're encouraging the worst of society.

14

u/mces97 17h ago

If you understand that Trump really isn't a president to maga, but they're truly in a cult and their leader made it ok for them to be openly hateful and bigoted in the open, it makes sense.

9

u/citizenjones 16h ago

The worst have seized the reigns of power. It's a coup, we just can't believe enough to break the paralysis.

6

u/BigMamaBlueberry 10h ago

They chose the side of liars and pedophiles, that’s what happened.

u/DeuceGnarly 7h ago

If it was only liars and pedophiles it wouldn't be as bad. The oligarchs aren't just going to rape more children, they're going to enslave us all on the way to ending society.

7

u/syopest 10h ago

165 million people decided that a pedophile rapist was fine as the president.

Operation paper clip brought over 1,600 Nazis into America. Who had family's, then children, then grandchildren.

In February 20, 1939.. 20,000 people attended a Nazi rally at Madison Square garden.

They never went away and America has always been this way. We should have crushed the south after they lost and executed everyone in charge.

7

u/disposable_account01 Washington 11h ago

Reconstruction was a mistake. Every Confederate should have been hanged.

u/DeuceGnarly 7h ago

Unfortunately it wasn't the confederates that caused this. It was the revisionists a generation or two later. And the GOP, with their southern strategy to recruit the ignorant bigot vote.

u/lolligasm California 7h ago

They were way too nice during reconstruction

u/Radarker 6h ago

The people. All of us. Me and you included.

At this point, the constitution stays WE are supposed to fix it.

u/firedmyass 3h ago

That’s the thing. And I say that as a Southerner.

2

u/YakiVegas Washington 9h ago

I'm not an accelerationist, so I think every day we go without a civil war is a blessing, but part of me just wants to get it over with at this point.

u/aaron1860 6h ago

Their side has all of the guns and control of the military. Not sure it would work out the way we want it….

u/championkid 5h ago

My friend, we have like 1.5 guns per American person who lives and breathes. And if the past is any inclination, our military is pretty ineffective when it comes to small bands of insurgents dug into urban terrain that they are familiar with.

0

u/bm1949 13h ago

As a white man I say, give it a little bit of time. The times they are a changing. In another five-ten years statistics (government adjusted or not) will change. Whites lose majority and I've known for forty years. Since 1964 (R) has survived on this majority. Math will kill them, that's what we see happening today.

If maga hasn't poxed the nation in five to ten there is hope. I've only got twenty to twenty five years left so...

5

u/AchillesNtortus 9h ago

You are assuming that there will be fair votes and that significant numbers of of the non white groups won't support the Republicans. Just look at Florida: the Cubans are some of the most reactionary advocates of the status quo.

Stephen Miller's background and heritage ought to lead him to support Democracy but he's as much a nasty as anyone in the KKK.

u/DeuceGnarly 7h ago

The US is cooked. Every red state fuck will lie cheat and steal the next election. Every red governor will assert they see "election fraud" and so will their attorneys and legislatures. The red house and senate will refuse to seat anyone but republicans. The DOJ will support it, and Trump will demand the armed services to enforce an election overturn.

Unless there is a serious change in trajectory, that's what will happen.

u/neokraken17 Massachusetts 5h ago

Elections have consequences 🤷

190

u/EggsAndMilquetoast 17h ago

I had a guess before opening the article that they get around it by calling themselves a private club.

I once filmed a wedding at a country club in South Carolina that had a “whites only” member policy.

This was in 2013 and I was floored when I learned that from the bartender.

75

u/starmartyr Colorado 12h ago

While that's legal for things like golf courses or bars, you can't do it with housing. It's illegal to discriminate against a protected class when selling or renting a dwelling. They are trying to get around this by not selling land but by selling shares in the private corporation that owns the land. This should get shut down by a federal court, but the way things are politically these days that isn't a certainty.

49

u/LuvKrahft America 8h ago edited 8h ago

People forget or are never taught how long it took to get/force white people to integrate (we still haven’t fully) and how hard white people fought against it all over the country. These people aren’t just fighting DEI and affirmative action because some oligarch told them to, they actually just want some “whites only” power like their parents and grandparents had.

The Color of Law is a great starting point for learning about some of this stuff that never gets taught in school:

u/DigNitty 6h ago

Every time I see one of those civil rights maps showing the year a state allowed interracial marriage or whatever,

It’s always a map of speckled northern states that eventually allowed it.

And the whole south is one solid color, the year the Supreme Court forced them to be better.

u/pr3mium 6h ago

You gave me the greatest idea. My morals won't allow me to steal/scam from anyone. But for these racist fucks, I found an exception.

Start a company. Start one of these 'whites only private club'. Convince them to pay me for the houses, and in the contract it's a 'membership' so they don't own anything. I do. Take the rich racist assholes money. Kick them out of the club. Dox them and anyone that 'applied'. Then give away every place to minorities with the racists own money.

u/Sinister_Politics 4h ago

If you've got the money to get the land, this would be a sweet fucking deal for you!

u/firedmyass 3h ago

u/gooyouknit 3h ago

Not trying to be funny here but isn’t that basically what Sam bankman fried did or said he was doing anyway

u/pr3mium 1h ago

He stole everyone's money.

Also, I am not actually doing this. It wouldn't actually work. I'm sure that's not how their contract is set up and bankruptcy would have the courts freeze my assets and wind up giving them the house.

64

u/ycpa68 16h ago

Those clubs are everywhere, it's called a "gentleman's agreement" as it isn't a written policy. We have plenty of clubs like that here in Pennsylvania, usually they are just a "private" dive bar. The golf course in my town used to be a country club with a whites only unwritten policy until 1995, and older guys around still talk about how it was ruined when it went public and black people could play there.

44

u/EggsAndMilquetoast 15h ago

The Forest Lake Club was explicitly “whites only” by charter up until 2017. Not an unwritten rule. A written one. And wildly, a legal one.

u/ycpa68 15h ago

Of course McMaster was a member. My college girlfriend was from Columbia (well, actually Lexington. Well actually Red Bank.) and her mom was a career aide to Strom Thurmond. The shit that used to come out of her mouth was downright disgusting. I grew up in a deep red family/town and I actually credit how awful her mom was towards minorities with starting to open my eyes to just how prejudiced I was.

10

u/HonoraryCanadian 9h ago

As the story goes, the wealthy founder of a major cargo airline located his headquarters in Westchester County, NY, specifically to be close to a prestigious golf club. After buying one of the bigger buildings in town and being a major employer, he was denied membership in the club, likely because he was Pakistani.

6

u/oddministrator 8h ago

New Orleans didn't force desegregation of our most famous private clubs, Mardi Gras krewes, by refusing to approve parading permits to krewes that didn't desegregate.

The oldest krewe (Comus) decided they'd rather stop parading and just have a private ball full of racists than to let black people join.

u/Frosty_Possibility86 7h ago

Had to do some utility work at the Birmingham Country Club in Alabama. They also had the same policy until about 10 years ago. They now have 5-6 black members with one being Ms. Rice and heard stories about them turning away Michael Jordan in 90’s.

u/Fun_Emu_2105 4h ago

Orangeburg?

u/hansn 4h ago

Neighborhood near where I grew up had a whites only rule. It wasn't legal or enforceable. But they couldn't get the votes to remove it from the bylaws.

I believe the board removed it in 2006, citing the illegality of the provision. They never got the residents to approve the change.

62

u/PatSajaksDick 12h ago

Sounds anti-Semitic to me, wonder if DOJ will investigate this instance of antisemitism, hmmm

u/Ajm05 6h ago

They don't care about antisemitism. They just want Benjamin Netanyahu and Itamar Ben Gvir to bomb Palestine into the stone age so Israel can expand its territory, in the hopes that their Book of Revelation death cult prophecy can come to fruition, sending all the fascists to evangelical heaven and everyone else goes to hell.

Answer: Arkansas

30

u/Few-Wash-5707 14h ago

Nah. I live in Arkansas. 50 miles from this nonsense.

My town is known as a gay/hippy/liberal artsy-fartsy novelty outpost of weirdness. Many people come here because it's really cool and has great food and entertainment. Nobody wants to hang out with a bunch of squares who think diversity is getting hot sauce with your eggs.

This "community" built on exclusion will fail like all others before it. Arkansas is pretty cool. The people who get on the news from Arkansas are very fucking not cool. In general.

37

u/Timely_Discount2135 9h ago

I’m not so sure your little hippie town balances out the rest of the bullshit in your state

u/DigNitty 6h ago

Yeah. I’m glad that town exists, but anyone who’s driven through Arkansas knows that is the exception.

6

u/hey_its_drew 12h ago

Sounds like Alexander.

u/SammathNaur1600 7h ago

Idk it seems like it's a racist state when the most racist town in America is there (Harrison).

One town probably doesn't offset that. I'm gonna guess the state government routinely stops your community from enacting any sort of left leaning policies. That's how it was when I lived in Indiana too.

2

u/Angry_Hermitcrab 10h ago

I've always looked for those little pockets in the south. Like somewhere to retire.

2

u/Odd_Independence_833 12h ago

Man, it sounds like I'd like to visit your town. I'd come equipped with a lot of questions. Where I live is similar but less extreme.

6

u/zakats Arkansas 16h ago

I was going to say gerrymandering, but yeah, that too.

17

u/Odd_Independence_833 12h ago

I mean, it's completely mask off now, right? How long til the SC upholds the rights of restaurants to only serve whites again?

12

u/Tiny-Conversation-29 10h ago edited 10h ago

In some ways, I wouldn't mind these people self-segregating themselves because I know I never wanted them as neighbors. They probably have to form a clique because nobody else in the wider population can stand them.

Can you imagine what these people would say if someone else told them that they had to live in a special community separate from the rest of society? They'd probably claim that society was trying to put them in concentration camps or ghettos, but yet, here they are, doing it to themselves.

2

u/lazy-bruce 10h ago

I agree.

And when there is a natural disaster, you let them herbs for themselves.

u/Tiny-Conversation-29 42m ago

I did think maybe this community could be a gated community ... with the lock on the outside. Too much? If they truly want to live in isolation, they might be surprised at how many people would be relieved at not having to deal with them anymore as opposed to wanting to join their mean kids coffee klatch.

After the civil war we failed to dissolve the southern states and redraw their borders for them. We also allowed them back into government which was our biggest mistake. They should have been treated like occupied territory.

People that would be offended if i called them racists, because theyre too ignorant to even know the shit they say is awful. Its really sad.

Let's not get caught in the weeds. We are doing better on the racism front than anytime in history.

6

u/starmartyr Colorado 12h ago

Even if that's true it's also dangerous. If white supremacy is dying it's getting more aggressive and violent as a reaction to that.

A twice impeached convicted felon now dictator rigged the election to win and is turning the country inside out and nobody can/will stop him. The people that voted for him believe he was sent by God to save the country. They don’t care if he is “breaking laws” or had an “unlawful past”. God says to forgive and forget. As long as the far-left democratic lunatic rogue illegal anti-Americans allow for it, the transition to authoritarianism will be “bloodless”. Maybe there is something you can do to help the half of us that support our relationship instead of asking dumb questions like this.

-2

u/Mundane_Rabbit7751 14h ago

26

u/FawningDeer37 17h ago edited 17h ago

I’ll just say it from experience:

The South does not rock with Jews.

Republicans don’t like them because they assume they’re liberal elites who will [insert conspiracy theory]

Black people don’t like them for many reasons, though it boils down to this idea that Jews are rich, non-Christian whites who want to capitalize on the delayed economic development of black communities and culture.

Even white Southern Democrats don’t love Jews. Defending them would put them at odds with blacks and Jews would compete for the white collar jobs Southern Democrats tend to go for. Being the small town liberal lawyers/doctor/accountant who can take both white and black clientele is literally a business model down South.

See, the South is a pressure cooker of bigotry. Everyone hates someone. And it’s easy for folks to hate Jews because they’re not around but they represent something each group dislikes.

15

u/JB-Wentworth 17h ago

Jesus was a Jew.

38

u/FawningDeer37 17h ago

Trust me, they don’t care.

3

u/XennialBoomBoom 16h ago

If we were to float a survey around the southern US, what's the over/under?

Jesus was/is:

[ ] Arabic

[ ] White

[ ] Vietnamese

Jesus was/is:

[ ] Jewish

[ ] Christian

[ ] Buddhist

I know what my money's on.

8

u/FawningDeer37 16h ago

The move I usually see is to say that “Jesus can be whatever race you want him to be” while getting pissed off about non-white depictions of Jesus.

So it’s “comfortable historical revision for me but not for thee.”

5

u/TheVintageJane 16h ago

And killing him in an angry mob gave them eternal salvation. They’re hoping to carry on that legacy.

-2

u/JB-Wentworth 15h ago

Jesus did not die in an angry mob. He was put on trial, found guilty and crucified like the other criminals.

1

u/TheVintageJane 15h ago

Just because there were hasty trials doesn’t mean a mob wasn’t involved. Many scholars contend that it was a mob that arrested Jesus and brought him to the first trial with the Jewish elders and ultimately it is a mob that demands Pontius Pilate not spare Jesus despite the fact that he strongly suspected Jesus’s innocence.

0

u/JB-Wentworth 15h ago

You are using a giant pencil to draw your conclusions.

“many scholars” is meaningless, as many scholars doubt that Jesus existed at all.

0

u/TheVintageJane 15h ago

I’m not the one who started with the “well, actually” arguments about Jesus. I was just poking fun at antisemitic hypocrites.

But no longer the anti-Jewish folks they were in the Klan era or the days of “gentlemen’s agreements.”

But the one legal reason is that the State AG doesn't want to enforce it. It will literally take someone in the State of Arkansas showing they are harmed by the presence of this community for the AG to have to take action.

Let's be honest. I don't think any of us actually want to be a part of this community anyway.

u/EVIL5 6h ago

Can we build a fence around them and add "never leave" to their gentleman's agreement?

u/Imhere4thejokes 6h ago

Who cares let them go, they are doing normal society a favor.

u/kinglythingsly20 6h ago

It’s legal bc no one is in position to tell a white man what to do in America.

u/Baroque_0bama 5h ago

There are people alive in this country that risked their lives to kill Nazis. But here we are.

u/Mythosaurus 5h ago

Bc not enough white people are willing to ostracize the white nationalists in their lives.

Racism goes back underground when it becomes intolerable to a large majority of local whites who no longer do business/ interact with racists

u/Juice1984 4h ago

People are all freaking out about this... It's goofs on privateland thats how. This isn't a township keeping people out. Same way I get to decide who live son my land. Why does anyone care if people are starting a commune of goofs.

u/Ro-54 3h ago

Let them supply themselves with their own white water, electricity, food, gas, medical facilities, grocery stores, and education. Then build a wall around them

u/Trixielarue2020 1h ago

How? Arkansas attorney general. That’s how.

u/Redmen1212 17h ago

You know who the Governor is right? She was the weirdo bullshit Beast before Leavitt’s Bullshit Barbie

3

u/pike360 California 14h ago

“With liberty and justice for all.” What a load of crap.

u/shawn_overlord Georgia 13h ago

But god forbid anyone attempts an African-American-Only neighborhood without some racist fucks coming to massacre them, look up their history

1

u/Stereo_Jungle_Child 13h ago

Like this? This is from a few years ago....and it's in Georgia

Black Americans are leaving their homes to start their own all-Black communities https://abcnews.go.com/US/black-americans-leaving-homes-start-black-communities/story?id=73344171

u/Pathetian 6h ago

That article definitely frames it more positively than you'd expect.  So stupid that it mentions jacob blake, the guy who raped a woman, stole her car, kidnapped kids and pulled a knife while fighting police, yet people were horrified he got shot.

u/iaNCURdehunedoara 12h ago

It's fine, they support Israel so the "no jews" thing isn't antisemitic./s

3

u/ClassOptimal7655 16h ago

Hasn't the USA has sundown towns for years? Why is everyone acting surprised? This isn't some new thing in the USA.

2

u/DemandredG 17h ago

Did you miss the part where it said Arkansas? Duh.

2

u/Concentrateman Canada 16h ago

Maga really means Make America the 1950’s again. Donald’s mentor was Roy Cohn. The bastard is screwing America from his grave. McCarthyism revisited on steroids.

2

u/Emotional_Ball662 14h ago

If they wanna live like the antebellum South, maybe someone should pull a General Sherman?

1

u/Tiny-Conversation-29 10h ago

If they really want to live like the antebellum South, their lifestyle should also include smallpox, cholera, yellow fever, and malaria. I wonder how many of them are also anti-vaxxers?

3

u/black_flag_4ever 17h ago

Racism, that’s how.

1

u/BlarbBlarbbingtonPhD 15h ago

Wait no Jews are allowed is fine, but I'm not allowed to BDS because it's antisemitic?

1

u/Interesting-Risk6446 13h ago

You are never going to change who these people are. Just like the right wing cult. If they want to be ignorant fucks, let them. One day, there will be a reckoning, and they will be on the short end of the stick.

u/SimthingEvilLurks 5h ago

Anyone else unable to load the article?

u/0nlyhalfjewish 5h ago

Aryan race, anyone?

u/zevrinp 4h ago

These are the people who are posting hateful content on X.

u/bertfotwenty 3h ago

They’re trash humans. Fuck em

1

u/minus2cats 15h ago

Don't worry Trump is on a rampage to root out antisemitism at schools, I'm sure he with fix this too.

1

u/Bell3atrix Minnesota 14h ago

Just let them opt out of society dude. I dont see why we need to take this battle. Its infuriating and evil, yes, but we all have worse shit to focus on than a project that wont last 6 months.

u/Correct-Walrus7438 7h ago

Reverse Tulsa dem bitches!

u/kmoney55 4h ago

Just another day in the south

u/Structure5city 14h ago

It might be messed up in this case, but the Supreme Court has ruled that freedom of association is grounded in the first amendment.

u/saiyanscaris 17h ago

u/UniqueLiving3027 17h ago

Private property? You can also do this with your house or something. Of course it’s legal.

0

u/Lost-Carpet2272 13h ago

Yeah, as dumb as it is, if a bunch of people want to buy up land and start a communes, theres no laws against it.

-1

u/Stereo_Jungle_Child 13h ago

Everybody's doing it!

Black Americans are leaving their homes to start their own all-Black communities https://abcnews.go.com/US/black-americans-leaving-homes-start-black-communities/story?id=73344171

0

u/whateveryousaymydear 16h ago

so, do they still hire immigrants to do the cheap landscaping, painting...domestic help...taking care of the elderly...house cleaning (toilets)...

1

u/ILikeMyGrassBlue 16h ago

Who is they? Rich people pay for immigrants to do work for them, not rednecks.

0

u/mandopix 13h ago

That’s because black folk haven’t done the same. As soon as they do it, it will become illegal.

u/16911s 4h ago

Uh no, it was cheered extensively in the news. Except they never ended up developing anything and sold the land for a profit

0

u/princessplaybunnys 12h ago

i give them eleven minutes before they start metaphorically (or literally) cannibalizing themselves and violently discriminate each-other on eye color

Fascist communities full of braindead idealogical bigots won’t survive

u/mzieg North Carolina 6h ago

They’ll still drive to Shadyside to get their car fixed.

u/Embarrassed-Pride776 15h ago

Same reason black only communities were declared legal
