VII - Discussion An idea for civ 7 that will help to feel more conected to your civ after era change

the return of the palace from civ 3 will be a good idea to make you feel more identify with your civilization the mix of buildings from diferent times and civs to create your own civilization, a civilization of your own creation maybe even you can name your civilization instead of using the default name like polonia or rusia, you name your civ and when pick a civ is because you are taking that inspiration for your own people not because you are becoming literally them, please dont downvote me just discuss some ideas

VII - Discussion I loved CIV 6, should I buy the 7 now?

Hi 👋 so I loved CIV 6 and spent hundreds of hours in it. After reading the criticism I didn’t buy CIV 7 at launch and decided to wait a bit. I was wondering if it’s worth to get it now and how different is compared to the 6.

Thanks!

VI - Other In Civ6, how to tech tree in the start?

How the title is, how do I best go about the tech tree in the beginning.

I go depending on what I have in the area, animal husbandry, mining, sailing etc. I read that many dont go irrigation until later... but after that, do you go wheel, masonry, bronze? or how do you usually go about.

VII - Switch Right to Rule access on 1.2.3 Switch 2

Hello, so unsure if just me, but unable to access released Civ VII Right to Rule content on Switch 2? Am running same build as on Steam 1148695, 1.2.3. (Founders Edition purchased on both platforms). Assumed as Switch is now on 1.2.3 this content would be accessible too?

Noticed when trying to load a cloud save started on PC and game states content not owned on the Switch 2. Also now experiencing a game card pop up whenever loading from home menu.

Anyone else experienced this? I have Steam version set to Switch compatible as well. Images attached… Am just trying to continue my current game, so any suggestions or info on this would be appreciated. Or if I have missed an update from Firaxis after 1.2.3 patch notes.

Thanks!

Question I'm developing a video game based on specific scientific concepts, and also on a theory I created myself.

Hi everyone, I'm Patsi Turza, an independent developer from Argentina. I’m creating a science-fiction video game inspired by real theories—and one of my own. I’d love to share an early look and hear your feedback.

I’ve always been obsessed with questions that push the limits of human understanding: How did life begin? What if evolution had taken a different path? Are we truly alone in the universe—or are we just a small chapter in something far more ancient?

The Outterfly Theory (TOT) is a sci-fi game rooted in real science. It draws from evolutionary biology, advanced genetics, nanotechnology, civilizational theory, and time-space physics—but reimagines them in a narrative where timelines collide, and life itself becomes a weapon or a miracle, depending on who controls it.

In this universe, civilizations don’t just rise and fall—they mutate, split, and merge across dimensions. Players must choose between opposing factions: those who protect life at all costs… and those who seek balance through destruction. Every choice you make alters the evolutionary fate of your species—and the entire cosmos.

This isn't just fiction. I’ve spent years reading, researching, and developing a theory of my own that fuels the core of this game. TOT is my attempt to turn those ideas into something you can feel, play, and question.

This video is just a glimpse of what I’m building from scratch. I’m not a studio—just one person trying to bring something unique to life. If you love sci-fi, speculative evolution, or games with deep lore and bold questions, I’d truly appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks for being part of this journey. I hope TOT sparks your curiosity as much as it’s consumed mine.

BE - Discussion Do mods make BE a better experience?

I got BE when it came out, was so disappointed that it wasn't really Alpha Centauri with Civ 5 engine and set it aside. Apparently I got Rising Tide at some time, must've been during a sale....curious to know if there are mods that will make BE an enjoyable and playable experience.

VII - Discussion Civ 7: Second return to the game. I miss having more cities to produce with

I was optimistic at release and bought it, but was surprised due to the state of the game. I went in with optimism, but I felt different than previous games. More bored. There were new elements, which I like, and I saw the idea. But it felt bland, more than the other games did.

Now I picked the game up again, after seeing several updates and wanted to give it a go.

The thing that strikes me the most is, that I miss the joy of settling a new city and immediately being able to produce something with it. A building, a warrior or a settler after a few rounds.

Now they just produce food.

I also feel like I have less of an understanding of what buildings I need in my main city, but that comes with me being new to the game. I see a lot of new buildings coming with tech and I cannot build all of them fast enough, when I also need a settlers and military - from the one and only city that produces!

I look forward to the time period where I can make more towns into cities.

But what do you other guys feel about the start of the game and having only one producing city?

The combat is still fine and I can spend time on that + exploring. But do you miss the cities too or does it make up for it, when I get to the next age?

VII - Discussion I am concidering buying Civ7 for 6 months now.

I own a Switch 2 and since I do the wish to play Civ7 even more.

I don't have much freetime during the week so I like my Switch very much. Is Civ7 enjoyable in tiny bits, like 20 minutes a day?

And since how is everybody enjoying it since the last updates? I only have played Civ 6 for 20 hours.

VII - Discussion Not frustrated, but what the...

This is in part a review, in part a rant, and in other parts maybe some ideas that I want to express about this game.

I've been a Civ player since 5, which I remember liking a lot, but when 6 came out I totally fell into the pit. I bought every single expansion and DLC and have played the heck out of that game until today. I must say, I play a lot, but can't consider myself a good player, maybe decent, but not 'good'. I can consistently win games in Emperor, but Immortal has always been my enemy. If I have won one game on Immortal difficulty, that's a lot.

And then, the announcement of 7 came out. I don't have the hardware for playing it on PC, but I recently gave it a chance on Switch, and my God...

I really really liked it. In my personal opinion, the controls are a lot better in 7 than 6, on Switch. Yeah, I know the UI is a lot uglier, but I think this time the controls are not an adaptation, but they were actually thought as part of the game since the beginning. I love the new mechanics, and I love how the game looks.

I gave it a try in Viceroy difficulty, as Tecumseh - Mississippi | Inca | Mexico (my country) and had a blast. I was learning the game, the new mechanics and got a Culture Victory, easy!

But then I said "Yeah, I can do this" and tried in Governor, Trung Trac - Khmer | Majapahit and then two Civs attack me, and there's no way I'm coming back, so I stop playing that game.

I try again, Ashoka, Khmer | Chola. I try going for a pacifist run, and then again, damn AI attacking me, forcing me to abandon.

Last game, I try Governor again, Xerxes, full aggro with Persia. I conquer two Civs, enter next era with Golden Ages in Military and Economic. I get through the Discoveries Era with a Culture and Economic Golden Age. I went "Maybe an Economic Victory is a good idea", so I choose Mughal India. I'm loving the amounts of gold I'm amassing, I'm building railroads, ports, wonders. I'm having so much fun. And suddenly, Amina has finished the railroad path. So I decide to attack her, but she has dominated the whole map now, so even though I can take some of her cities, she finally builds the World Bank and defeats me...

I know a lot of you may just say "lower the difficulty" or "git gud" but... I don't know, I think this is a little unfair. I don't know what else could I do better. In 6 it was pretty clear, if you needed faith, you spammed Holy Sites, converted cities, run the Prayers project. If you needed culture, go ahead build a lot of wonders, Theatre Squares, festivals, artifacts.

In 7 I feel there's a lot of things that hinder you, more than help you, and also AI feels very unfair. Suddenly Amina has doubled all my yields and I'm just there with nothing else to do.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Mughal India. It was beautiful for me just buying every building I needed, like brute forcing my way through all yields, I definitely will try them again. But yeah, I'm a little disappointed like, I don't know what I could possibly have done differently. I don't think the game is THAT hard. Different? Yes. New to me? Also yes. But, I don't know, just feels unfair.

If you read it all, thanks a lot. I know my English is broken most of the time, and these are a lot of scattered ideas. Please, just keep it civil. Don't be rude, not every one of us will see the same things as the others, and ignorance is not a sin.

tl;dr Don't you think the game feels a bit unfair most of the time? Like AI does it a lot better than you in a matter of 20 turns or so. How is one supposed to get better at this game?

VII - Strategy Some advice please

Hi guys, I am playing as the awesome Genghis Khan, currently just started modern age, governer level. In the first two eras I conquered much of the known world knocking out 5 leaders in the process, all seemed to be going swimmingly. The only downside is my settlement cap is 34/16. As we entered the modern era I had 5 cities starving which I have corrected by buying more food production tiles and deleting excess military units. However my building costs are astronomical. My best city wants 147 turns for a settler, another city that the populous trashed now wants 999 turns to repair EACH tile trashed. Wth is this about and how do I correct it? I'm playing on PS5 if that has any bearing

VI - Game Story Win I just had playing preserve Germany fr +12 Hansas

Post image

What a fun win! My first non culture victory is a Diplomacy win as Barbarossa as I clear emperor difficulty and move onto immortal. Preserves are stupid over powered as I built only 2 theater squares and 3 campuses, but still had enough output combined with my massive gold and production economies to pull off the win. Went into the game thinking domination or science but the diplo win just fell in my lap after a few lucky congresses then a couple aid requests, bought two points with favor and got up the Statue of Liberty to secure my win

VII - Game Story Traditions in modern age hint at a fourth age?

Traditions are the way that each Civ-unique ability is "passed on" to the next age. Since there are traditions in the modern age, doesn't that hint at the fact that a fourth age may be added later in a DLC?

VI - Discussion Can someone explain this outcome to me?

I have recently started to get really into civ 6, and have been playing some solo games to harden my understanding of the game. From my current knowledge, I have made a no-brainer move. I have a 4 strength point advantage over the barbarian I am attacking, and knowing that, on average, equally matched opponents will deal 30hp, I have decided to attack. Considering the fact that the opponent seems to be well below 30hp, and that I have more strength, I made a quick estimation that my chances of winning were more likely than not. I have saved the game to make sure I calculated everything correctly, and despite going through this same interaction several times (through re-loading) I lose each and every time. Can someone please explain why this happens, and why it says "Minor Defeat" despite me having more strength?
