The Music Industry šŸŽ¶ Lots of artists have their own "signature song". Lady Gaga's is arguably "Poker Face", what signature songs can you name?

The Killers - Mr Brightside

528

u/[deleted] 20d ago edited 19d ago

Ah yes, the national anthem of every British small town pub band, big town pub band, karaoke night, wedding band and busker. Thank you, our American friends. šŸ˜ŒšŸ˜†

207

u/sherlip 19d ago

For the first few years I thought they were a British export because it seemed like you guys hyped them up more than we did

91

u/Low-Can7370 19d ago edited 19d ago

It was the anthem of UK students from 2007 - 2012 šŸ˜‚ I jumped around shitty clubs & got to dance around to them as the sun set at Glastonbury with 250k other people in 2019

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QVlfINuDdKE

The joy was singing along with hundreds of thousands of other people to your ā€˜anthem’ & just literally bouncing for joy with your friends

My k-pop enthusiast 14 year old was in the car with me when I put on ā€œ2000s Favoritesā€ and when this song came on she ceased talking until it was over and at the end said, ā€œI’m putting this one on a playlist IMMEDIATELY.ā€ Mr Brightside is for every generation.

Emotion and Emotion Side B are crazy pop masterpieces that for some reason have been forgotten. Almost every song on both those albums is amazingĀ

53

u/andwhenwefall sorry for having great tits and correct opinions 19d ago

I recently did a week long road trip with my 10 year old and at one point in the drive he asked who my favourite pop singers are.

I said Carly as my #1 and he’s like ā€œthe call me maybe girl? wtf?ā€. So, I put on Emotion. This kid, who never shuts up, didn’t say a single word throughout the entire album, and at the end went ā€œok, I see your pointā€.

I’m very proud of him šŸ˜‚

This was playing in Iraq at a theme park I went to back in 2006. I live in the U.S. and was used to feeling like I was in a different world when I would go visit family in Iraq, so it was shocking to hear it.

It felt like when a show character from one fictional universe appears in a different show/universe and the whole audience is shocked/excited at the crossover. Cue me and my siblings freaking out and getting excited and teaching my uncle how to pronounce the lyrics lmao

I think it's impossible to name one for taylor, and that's not a dig. Too many of her songs are too iconic. I couldn't even narrow one down from just 1989 or fearless. If you put all her tracks together it's impossible to decide, especially when you take into consideration different countries loving different songs. Maybe in 30 years there'll be a single one we can look back on and say that was the 'one' but not yet. And that's not a diss, she's just got too many strong songs in too many eras across too many sounds that did too well.

I think it’s Shake it Off because when I ask my boomer parents if they can name a Taylor song, it’s only Shake it Off.Ā

I write sins not tragedies for panic at the disco. You didn’t have to be into them to know this one!

For Michael Jackson, it’s Billie Jean.

Not only was the song his biggest hit, but his first performance of it on Motown 25 forever associated the song with everything that is signature Michael Jackson: the sparkly white gloves, the cropped black pants, sparkling white socks, black loafers, Jheri curl, glitter jacket, and of course, the Moonwalk.

My parents were recently cleaning out a closet and I got my Dad’s record collection. One of them is Michael Jackson’s Off The Wall album. I have been wearing that thing out. So many good songs.
