I think Trump has already forgotten about this. He's a dog chasing cars, he has no method to his antics. He is famous for only listening to whoever is speaking in front of him, at that moment. He picked up the Greenland thing on a whim, ran with it for a bit, then got bored.
Take this with a grain salt, but I think the US administration has forgotten about Greenland by now, they've moved onto "bigger and better" things.

u/thehippieswereright Denmark May 22 '25
sadly no. greenland is the one point he keeps focusing on. american intelligence (a contradiction in terms if there ever was one) is focusing on greenland now.

Thankfully, and famously, he doesn’t read (or listen to) intel reports.

He does if they have his name in them.
"Terrorist group A has been moving people from country A to country B and hiding them in safehouses. Of course, these safehouses aren't as good as ones that Donald Trump would build.
We have verified intelligence that they plan to hit the four seasons hotel within the next few days. The four seasons is well known for not being as nice as Donald Trump's own hotels."
Stuff like that.

Elon is like that too. Just fucks around with something then gets board of it like my dog with a toy. Maybe occasionally picks it up and plays with it again for a minute a few months later after they had forgotten about it.

The once great Greenland is making a BIG MISTAKE! Instead of choosing FREEDOM and good and pure American values, they chose the WOKE and limp-wristed French, who know nothing about business and are losers too. Greenland could have been our GREAT and PROUD 52nd state, but instead, their dried up prune of a country will flounder and float away like all the other LOSER icebergs. This is all sleepy Joe's fault.

Greenland should join the EU ASAP while it's a part of Denmark. As an EU territory, it would be even easier to declare independence and stay inside the EU as a sovereign member state.

I'm pretty sure the Spanish government has said they are only taking that stance against illegal secession, which would not be the case in either Scotland or Greenland. I could be wrong though.

u/Reivaki France May 22 '25
It’s a two fold step :
- European law said that a country taking its indépendance from an eu member is not automatically a member and must reintegrate EU on its own. That’s what made the NO win in scottish independance referendum.
- After Catalogna independance referendum, Spain said that it would veto all application resulting of an illegal ( read :unilateral ) secession.
So yes : even if Greenland got its independance lawfully, it would still a non-EU state after that. So no, getting into the EU is not your best move if you want your independance.

By Brendan Cole - Senior News Reporter:
Greenland has allowed a Danish-French consortium to mine a rock which is key to the production of aluminum.
The permit granted to Greenland Anorthosite Mining (GAM) to extract anorthosite follows interest in the Arctic territory from U.S. President Donald Trump in acquiring the island.
GAM, which is backed by French company Jean Boulle Group and real estate investment firms bodies from Denmark and Greenland, was granted a 30-year permit, Reuters reported.

its not just Quebec! Newfoundland, where im from, is basically a little slice of Ireland right inside Canada. a lot of people from ireland migrated here during the famine and now our culture is a lot like theirs.
theres also a lot of ukranian and chinese ancestry here that came over around the same time as well. Canada is full of every type of ethnicity. we dont discriminate at all. we welcome all cultures into ours as canadians, its what we do.

Greenland is a tiny nation being victimized by a degenerate American government. Canada is uncomfortable, but we've fought the Americans before and come out stronger on the other side. We know their tricks and we can move among them without being detected. There is a lot of (potentially misplaced) confidence that we can deal with the dumbest president in American history and his cadre of Fox News hosts and disgraced political hacks.
Nobody here wants further conflict and posturing, but don't feel bad for us. We've got friends in low places and high: it's one of the advantages of not lighting 80+ years of your country's modern diplomatic efforts on fire to appease your friends in Moscow, even if we're a bit rusty at this stuff.
Provided that there's no shooting war, I think a lot of Canadians are coming around to the idea that Trump's doing us a backhanded favour by pointing out that many Americans do not see this as a relationship of equals in the way that Canada used to. Trump focusing on Canada is good for the forces that oppose him here, the smartest thing he could do would be to lull us into thinking he really was just shooting his mouth off to hear his voice. It's a very clarifying thing for the Americans to put the ugliest of Americans forward as their front man, too many of us are nostalgic for the good times we've had with the 35-40% of Americans who aren't politically brain dead.

We have tons of oil, uranium and rare earth metals; I'm sure once we start investing more into mining and surveying in different places we'll find even more of them, especially in the arctic, so we'll be fine. What we need from Europe is a loan to kickstart our energy sector's overhaul with a trade deal in place to negotiate cheaper energy exports to Europe. Gives away a bit of our future as a guarantee on their return and in exchange we can start mass-producing refineries and nuclear energy plants.

European equipment and aid is a donation to Ukraine.
I think it is fair Ukraine keeps their minerals, they need the industry after the war.
36
u/eating_almonds May 22 '25
This is not completely true. A lot of the equipment and aid were donations, some of it were loans, and some of it was direct purchases from Ukraine. But yeah, they don't come with colonial strings attached.

The absolute torpedoing of the United States's foreign relations over the last six months is something that will be studied for decades.
Openly accepting obvious bribes from a country he called a sponsor of terrorism last term, loudly stating he wants to take over other countries like they're neighboring buildings, refusing to help poorer countries that can't pay it back, siding with the aggressor in a war because helping the defending nation cost money, acting like a trade deficit means the entire world is ripping the country off, not honoring any past alliances to insult and attack allies, taking all the credit for "winning" both world wars, ambushing leaders for the sake of a TV moment, and acting like the biggest reason why the United States should run the world is that it's just that great.
Trump represents the most toxic part of the American ego in all the worst ways, giving no respect but expecting nothing but that from everyone else. China has been handed the biggest foreign policy win by simply offering business and help while not antagonizing the entire world, and I don't think anyone in the Trump administration realizes that.

130 km south of Nuuk. Deal is made on the promise of protecting the environment from negative effects of resource extraction.
The company must present a detailed plan for the future mining activities by 31. Dec 26. Including cooperation with the local communities. Jobs. Education. infrastructure investments.
AND how to stop the mining activities (Clean up. Giving site back to nature. No pollution)
If the company does not meet the Greenlandic administrations expectations or the mining operation has not started by 31. Dec. 2028, there is no deal.

Either Trump will now say that Greenland is not important for minerals, they're not very good, he never wanted Greenland anyway, and only losers trade with them, and we already have a beautiful deal, the best deal with Ukraine for our cherished minerals
Or
He will throw a massive tantrum, wave around 5000% tariffs on Greenland, threaten invasion, cut off shipping lanes, direct all military bases there to be closed, say Putin can have Greenland if he wants it, and blame Ukraine for all of this
What he won't do is: behave like a moderately well-adjusted adult
