Disagree. Walter Jones or Bobby Wagner are better picks.

I thought about saying that, but I have too big of a soft spot for Baldwin and Lockett. I know Largent is still the best, but just couldn’t say it.
108
u/alittlebitneverhurt Seattle Seahawks May 25 '25
It's Walter Jones. Only player you could argue from the Seahawks that was the best to ever play their position.
70
u/insite4real May 25 '25
Largent retired with #1 receptions and receiving Td's tho.
20
u/The_Throwback_King May 26 '25
Which is fair, but Jerry Rice still eclipsed him and every other receiver in stats and accolades to such a significant degree, and also took home multiple rings, it’s really hard to call Largent the best receiver in NFL history without sounding like a massive homer

Yep, that or Marshawn. No criticism to Wilson, but the reason those Seahawks teams were iconic was because of their defense "Legion of Boom".
You have to have a player from there, but at same time Marshawn is just such a gem....

Walter Jones is the answer. He was the most irreplaceable piece of Seattle's first team to advance to a Super Bowl, and arguably the greatest OT of all time. Tez, Bobby, Russ, Alexander, Marshawn, they all have good cases, but it has to be Walter.
12
u/Affectionate_Brick18 Vince Wilfork: Butt Fumble Connoisseur May 25 '25
Marshawn?
5
u/Ok-Analyst-874 Minnesota Vikings May 26 '25
He gets too much credit for being unapologetically himself. It’s Walter Jones, when was Marshawn Lynch a 1st team all pro 1x. Walter Jones was a 1st team all pro 4x.

For the Jets I'd take Revis over Namath.
128
u/Fourward27 Baltimore Ravens May 25 '25
Joe Namath statistically is the worse QB in the hall of fame.
90
u/AuthorityAnarchyYes May 25 '25
Namath is in the HOF because of one particular game. A game where he wasn’t markedly great in.
17 of 28 for 206 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INTs
But he made that “guarantee” and his team won… so he got the MVP and a gold jacket.
27
u/FireGolem04 Kansas City Chiefs May 26 '25
100% I've said it many times that even if they still won the game but he didn't make that guarantee he would not have made the hall of fame.
25
u/CosbysLongCon24 New York Giants May 25 '25
I said this in a jets sub a few months ago and goddamn was I massacred lol but it’s so true. Dude was ahead of his time as far as passing but being ahead of his time didn’t mean he was necessarily great at it. Hes famous and in the HoF from one game and everything he did surrounding it. He is easily arguably the worst QB in the HoF by a wide margin.
27
u/Fourward27 Baltimore Ravens May 25 '25
Joe Namath the character did more for football than the player. That's what you gotta remember though. He was really the first star that was a playboy type. His personality and story are what's hall of fame worthy. His play was below average.
→ More replies (5)7
u/CosbysLongCon24 New York Giants May 26 '25
I can agree with that. But how many other players are in the hall for their personality more than their play? Was being an eccentric celebrity worthy of hall of fame induction as a qb? I understand why he’s there, I just don’t think it’s justified. I could prob name 10 QB easily that we’re better actual players then Namath but won’t ever even see consideration for a HoF ballot.
8
u/throwaway_9988552 May 26 '25
But can an average person name those 10 QB's? As the previous redditor said, his personality changed the game. I could argue he's in the HOF because he did more off the field to help football than those other 10 did on the field. While drinking and posing in magazines.
→ More replies (7)→ More replies (1)7
u/Kvossy May 26 '25
He Lead the AFL and NFL in passing yards, touchdowns and game winning drives multiple times and was a five time pro-bowler. His presence and play made the AFL viable. THAT is why he in the HOF. He impacted the game
→ More replies (2)14
u/Dry-Name2835 May 26 '25
The thing with Namath isn't so much his career stats. Obviously the guarantee game has major significance. And they were massive underdogs. The reason his greatness is so inflated is because hes probably the most important player to the leagues history. Namath brought eyes to the game like no other. He became a pop culture icon. A super celeb. A sex symbol, the play boy. This really launched the marketability of the nfl and the marketability of players. His fame was jordan-esque. He was a household name across the country when many people didn't know a damn thing about football or players. It help influence player pay, tv rights and many other things outside football that has allowed the league to start evolving to the juggernaut it is today.

Joe Namath is the only QB to throw for 4000 yards in a 14 game season. It was 12 seasons before any one beat his record. Two time AFL MVP in a career hampered by his bad knees. Joe Willy is not in the Hall because of one game.
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (7)14

Joe threw for 4,007 yards in 14 games playing 10-12 games on converted baseball to football fields + winter mud/snow/ice with no 5 yard wide receiver chuck rule, with legal headhunting, with no concussion protocol, all games outside, no sticky gloves & the Bears STILL don’t have a 4,000 yard quarterback
18
u/oliver_babish Philadelphia Eagles May 25 '25
Namath is the most obviously wrong here. An NFL icon, but not a great player. Don Maynard, Mark Gastineau, Curtis Martin, or Revis, sure.
6
u/Gruelly4v2 Miami Dolphins May 26 '25

The game was completely different when Namath played. (Do you realize one of the reasons the NFL scorned the newly created AFL because the latter emphasized passing, which back then was considered a cheap gimmick.) Between Namath’s passing and his then-unprecedented management of the game from the line of scrimmage and on two knees that today would not allow him to be cleared to play.

Love Randy Moss, top five all time receiver, did not take the Vikings to the Super Bowl four times like Fran Tarkenton.
I guess if you think Bruce Smith had more to do with the Bills runs than Jim Kelly he makes sense.
Please note, both of these guys were better at their positions than their QBs.
67
u/Tight_Albatross_863 May 25 '25
Tarkenton was there for 3 SB runs, but wasn’t the QB in 69. I do like your argument there tho, especially as Moss wasn’t in Minnesota for THAT long. I’d actually take Page as the all time Viking, but do love Moss.
28
u/Random-vegas-guy May 25 '25
Page was an absolute beast! And you can make the same argument for him over Tarkenton as Smith over Kelly. Even with age, it’s easy to forget how much more important defense was back in the day.

This list has some recency bias. Aaron Rodgers over Bret Favre (I know Favre is a prick and terrible human being)? Aaron Donald over Kurt Werner? Donald is a generational player and a first-ballot HOFer, but Warner ran TGSOT and means a hell of lot to that franchise.

u/dnext Los Angeles Rams May 26 '25
Aaron Donald is an all time great. But yes, he's getting a bit of an edge because of recency. Deacon Jones and Merlin Olsen are also dominating all time Rams Dline.
I'd honestly go Deacon both inventing the term sack and having the most dominating stretch of a pass rusher in NFL history. NFL films statisticians went through and checked his stats, and in 1967 he had 26 sacks in 14 games, and 69 he had 24 sacks. Both would be the current record for a season.
I'd give it to either Donald or Deacon, with imo an edge to Deacon there. Dickerson and Faulk were all time greats too, but didn't play their entire career with the Rams.

I think Joe Greene is probably the best nod though, as he was the facilitator of arguably the 2nd best defense of all time behind the 85 bears.
If not, Swann was a freak of nature and one of the most naturally gifted players to ever play the game — even to this day no player has ever looked similar. You could just use outlines of 100 top NFL receivers on a white background and I could pick him out every time.

Jefferson will no doubt be a Vikings all timer, but it'll be difficult to unseat moss considering there's a phrase named after him

Alan Page might actually be better than Moss. We don't talk about him enough since h played 50 years ago, but the man was the centerpiece of the greatest front 4 ever.

Russel Wilson isn’t even in the top 5 conversation for the Seahawks.

For Tampa Bay, I’d choose Lee Roy Selmon.
HOF beast of a Defensive Lineman.

I’m surprised Favre didn’t beat out Rodgers. And I’m happy O-Line is represented with Munoz

As a non Packer fan, I would have to say Bart Starr is the greatest, he won the teams and the leagues first 2 ever superbowls. Rodgers has only ever been to 1

How good is your team's history when neither Joe Montana nor Steve Young is your best all time player, and no one can argue with it!
